Samsung Galaxy S9 Camera Review (In-Depth)

Hello, my friend as I promised today we will take a look at Samsung Galaxy S 9 camera I have already made full review of the s9, so this video will only be about the camera, so I will try to show you the image quality in both stills in a video, especially in low-light. We will take a look at some special features like the super slow motion, video and so on. This is the bass s9, not the plus version, so here I will only review the main wide-angle camera before we get to the image quality. Let's take a look at the camera app. The interface is very familiar. I.

Personally, like this interface, you can switch between the modes by swiping to the left or to the right. I really appreciate that it is possible to customize the order of these modes, and you can also hide the modes that you don't want to use I, also really like the pro mode, which contains most of the settings that you would find in DSLR or mirrorless camera here. You can, for example, say the ISO shutter, speed, aperture white balance and even metering modes. More advanced photographers and filmmakers, who want to use smartphone as their big camera, will probably be happy with the options provided in Pro Mode. This is also the only mode where you can shoot in RAW format, which is something that I definitely recommend trying, and I will talk about that later in the video one.

Big criticism of the app that I have is that there is no way to switch the 16 by 9 aspect ratio to see the framing of the video. You can only switch to 18 by 9 galaxy s.9 still uses 12 megapixel sensor, which is good in my opinion. At the moment, I think that it is the best compromise between the resolution and the pixel size, which determines things like low-light performance, color, depth and dynamic range. As you probably know, galaxy s 9 features the first smartphone camera with possibility to change the aperture on the lens just like on my 80-year-old. Iceland's the benefits of this are that you can use F 3.4 in good light to get sharp pictures with deep depth of field and better contrast and F 1.5 to let in more light for shooting in low-light scenarios or if you want to achieve shallow depth of field or more artistic look in automatic mode. F 2.4 is default. Setting and f 1.5 is only used in low-light. If you want to choose the aperture yourself, you need to switch to pro mode I'm happy to report that the F 1.5 aperture helps a lot. The low-light capabilities of this camera are perfect, considering that it is a smartphone camera.

Of course, if 1.5 doesn't sound like that big of a difference in comparison to F 1.8, but keep in mind that the f-stop scale is logarithmic and the F 1.5 actually lets in 50 percent, more light than f 1.8 used, for example, on iPhones, just like on other high-end smartphones. The noise reduction processing of low-light shots is quite aggressive, which results in loss of detail. Every juicer's may actually prefer it that way. Advanced users can still use Pro, Mode and shoot in RAW, so overall, the low-light capabilities of the s 9 are very good. In my opinion, the sharpness of the pictures in good light is actually very good that F 2 point 4 apertures probably contributes to that as well.

The processing of the images is against to please the average customers, so there is a lot of sharpening and saturation, although in my opinion, it is better than with previous galaxy s devices. So in automatic modes the pictures are vibrant, and the colors are quite punchy. The processing also seems to prefer warm tones, whether you like this or not depends on your preferences. Most of the people will probably like it and the advanced users can set their own picture profile in Pro Mode, so everyone should be happy. It's 9 also uses new HDR processing most of the time it works really well.

For example, in this shot of Bratislava castle, it did an excellent job. It is actually very similar to the shot that I have taken with my serious camera Sony, a 65 hundred and edited in Adobe Lightroom. Sometimes it is a bit too aggressive, and it brightens the shadows too much which results in a bit unnatural. Look. So in certain situations, you might just want to turn it off for me personally, all the things that I don't like about the s.9 images can be fixed just by switching to promote as photography enthusiast I prefer to shoot in RAW format and edit or develop pictures to my taste in editing. Software like Adobe, Lightroom and I have to say that the s9 really excels here.

The DOG RAW files contain a lot of information. The sensor can really capture surprising amount of dynamic range, so I can recover a lot of information from both shadows and highlights so in this regard. I am very happy with s nice camera regarding the video s9, of course shoots 4k 30p, but now it also shoots 4k 60p, which I really appreciate the codec is what we would expect from a smartphone. The nitrate is not great and there is still a lot of compression, but by smartphone standards. It is good.

There is still a lot of sharpening here. Fortunately, that can also be turned down in Pro Mode. Here the s9 still benefits from the dual aperture, just like with stills, so it is still good in low light, and the picture has very good amount of detail. S and I can also shoot 960 frames per second video for 0.2 seconds, with the automatic triggering it is actually more usable than I thought that it would be. It is just 720p, though, so.

The quality of the video is quite poor, but it is suitable for shooting cool, Instagram stories or videos or some b-roll footage. S9 also shoots 240 frames per second 1080p video that lets you choose what part of the video do you want to be slow-motion after you shot the video, and this is really useful also for the YouTube. Although the image quality is still not that great in this mode, the panorama mode works. Well, there is not much to talk about here. The hyperlapse or time lapse still only produces 1080p video, which is a bit of a disappointment, so I will shoot regular, 4k, video and speed it up in post instead of using the time-lapse mode.

The front camera unfortunately still uses some sort of beauty filter which results in unnaturally smooth skin, but here again some users may actually prefer that, and the lens is at least quite wide. Overall I am very happy with the performance of the s9 camera. The dual aperture allows you to produce exceptionally sharp pictures in good light and pictures with low noise in low-light. The camera app is quite good. In my opinion, I just miss the option of sixteen by nine framing pro mode contains everything that I want.

The raw shading promote are surprisingly good as well. What I would like to see improved is the video nitrate and definitely the sharpening algorithm, so that's it for this video. Thank you for watching. I hope that you liked this video and that you found it to be useful, stay tuned for more videos and maybe consider subscribing if you don't want to miss my future content, I appreciate your feedback in form of thumbs up or thumbs down.
