Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G vs Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max - Camera Showdown

Pretty excited today we're going to do a photo and video showdown between two of the big flagship phones out of the market right now, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro max and the Samsung Galaxy s21 ultra and when I say showdown, we're actually going to show pictures side by side and videos that we went out and took up on mount Seymour in Vancouver on a snowy day just to see which ones I can guess were taken with the iPhone or the Samsung. If you want to see more videos like this, don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel and hit that little bell icon to get notified. When we have new videos coming out, and I'm going to be going through this trying to guess you should be doing this too. If you come up with different results, leave them in the comments below okay. Let's get into this, so one big caveat. I am no photography expert by any stretch, so I'm just going to try to guess uh the photos and videos based on my knowledge of the two different uh camera types on the phones here and overall, which I think looks best.

So we took a bunch of photos and I hate looking myself uh on camera and pictures, but up on mount Seymour here in Vancouver, uh, Canada and just to kind of get all the different types of uh lighting that was available so right off the bat I'm just having to say a to me looks better because there's more light involved with it um detail, it's kind of I might give it to uh b. I might give it to b, but overall, if I had to pick one that I liked the best, it probably would be a'm gonna, I'm going to guess that it's the iPhone 12 Pro max. I was right. I don't know why I was right. I guess I have this perception that uh iPhones maybe light things up a little more with their cameras, but yeah.

That's really, really interesting. You can see, though, in the background, the more I'm looking at it now the Samsung is popping a little more of the colors. I think. If you took the photo into a photo editing program, you might be able to do a little more with it, but uh again on second look here: uh Samsung does have the can see right behind my head there. In the background uh like way in the distance, you can see more of the color and definition there.

Okay, let's move on to the next photo uh so up next, I believe we have the telephoto lens. This isn't the super space zoom that Samsung has, but I think, regular telephoto and right off the bat uh. I think if you look at the b photo to me, it looks a little kind of washed out as far as the lighting um, I'm going to have to say. That b is the iPhone again. I think it's just letting in more light.

I am on fire. Furthermore, I guessed it uh right again, it is interesting. Um there was a lot of light. You know obviously we're up in the snow up in the mountain there. So there's a lot of reflection happening again.

These are untouched photos, so you probably want to take them into a photo program to adjust the brightness overall but uh. You know good definition on both of them uh. Definitely, okay. Let's move on to the next one. Next up we have the ultra-wide um yeah, I'm going to have to say a little more definition on camera b there.

I think the obviously is letting more light in initially there, so it just kind of stands out a little uh more I'm going to have to go with an again on the iPhone. You know I'm sensing a pattern here as far as the light and brightness on the photos taken with it, and I was wrong. I was wrong on this one. That is that's very strange: um yeah, interesting, okay, I guess my whole uh take on a more bright uh brightness on the iPhone photos is uh out the window. Okay, let's see if I can get the next one, so now we're uh checking out portrait mode with the uh, the two cameras uh again I hate looking at myself in photos, but I gosh um, it's a tough I would just have to be guessing here now.

I do like b better. It just seems to be a little more definitions, not washed out uh as much but again uh they're, both they're, both excellent photos. I'm going to go an on iPhone b on Samsung right again, uh yeah, it's interesting. I mean they're they're, both excellent um. You know if you just had the iPhone, or you just had the Samsung they're, both taking excellent pictures here so far, so it's just interesting uh again the iPhone's making things a little brighter uh.

You know again we're up in the mountain in the snow, so that's kind of one type of photography. It might be different if you were not in such bright conditions but yeah. Very interesting. Okay, let's check out uh the next comparison. Okay, I have to say, I'm not going to be the model in this comparison, shootouts anymore, because I look like crazy man.

I look like Eugene levy eyebrows on there right now. Okay, I know what this is: uh, selfie mode, there's a lot more definition happening on a'm going to have to give it to an as far as the one that I like the most, but I am going to say a- would be the Samsung and b the iPhone 12. Oh, look at that. I'm I'm right again! Yeah! That's fascinating uh! I know the Samsung selfie camera has a higher megapixel to it, uh again, but we're dealing with the brightness uh on these photos. Again it was a very bright day.

I know it was overcast, but there's a lot of reflection coming up from the snow on the ground. You can see my crazy eyebrows and high definition, both of them the Samsung's, picking it up even more, but it's just uh. It's got a kind of richer uh, less bright feeling uh to it. Okay, let's move on to the next comparison. Okay, so we're uh we're trying out the uh the night vision now really seeing how much light that the sensors can bring into the uh the cameras on both these phones.

It's interesting because this is actually eight at night in the dead of winter, so it's actually pitch black out, so I am just blown away on both of them on how much brighter they've made these photos. Look. It looks kind of like a late afternoon on a winter's day, so yeah and another fascinating thing is just uh how they've both been cropped, so they've been taken from the same distance but the camera on the photo. Obviously, it's its in much closer they're, both excellent uh, but I'm going to go with an on Samsung and b on iPhone just again from a brightness standpoint, the picture b seems to be brighter and that seems to be a bit of a trend with some iPhone photos, uh that we've seen so far. Oh, I was wrong.

Okay, I'm I'm still, I'm still ahead on my guesses, but uh yeah. That is fascinating. iPhone's really done a lot as far as the night photography and their computational uh photography uh. So they call it um. You know compared to a few years ago, if you took a picture eight o'clock at night, it's just black but uh.

Now it's its come a long way, but I have to be honest: they're, both excellent, the level of detail in the photos. Uh again fantastic. You can even see kind of the gradients in the sky uh. You know the tree in the in both photos. Uh, you know all the detail and the branches are there as well, so yeah, very interesting but yeah.

It is interesting. Just uh, you know photos taken from the same distance um. You can see the iPhone uh crops it a little closer. So now we're going to have a look at some 4k video. Oh, it's interesting! I'm liking the b video better.

It just seems better adjusted yeah. Just I look like a crazy man here. Yeah, throwing my snowball in the air like a madman uh, I'm gonna, have to say uh, video an is the iPhone video and video b is the Samsung video, and I'm just basing that on the overall brightness uh again just finding the iPhone's uh tent, the iPhone videos pictures tend to skew a little brighter haha. I was right, I mean they're, both they're both excellent again, and it's interesting. I mean there's such a big deal made out of the cameras on these phones and everyone's always, you know, what's better, what's better, you know the reality.

Is it just comes down to you know what ecosystem you're in? Are you an apple person or an android person, but yeah? That's interesting eh I mean they're, both fantastic. You can see the snow falling in both of them, but yeah the Samsung seems to just kind of balance the brightness a little better yeah. I don't look as pale and washed out. You can see. The detail in the trees as well is better on the Samsung video.

So the last video we're doing now is uh slow motion.240 frames per second, oh I'm never going to be in these videos again um. I know, I'm going to have to guess that an is Samsung and b is iPhone. It's almost. I find the detail a little greater in video a might be getting a little too dark, though they're both excellent but yeah, I'm going to say Samsung is a and iPhone is b for the video again. This is the slow motion video.

I think I did pretty good over overall yeah. That's interesting. They both handle the slow motion really well. You can see all the fine detail in the snow particles as the snowball explodes uh there uh, but again the iPhone again is making things a little brighter. Overall, this is kind of an interesting comparison.

You know when you're, comparing these two phones, it always typically comes down to whose, got the better camera. But you know, as I was saying it just comes down to more like what ecosystem that you are in, if you're, an apple person you're, probably going to stick with apple, if you're, a Samsung fan you're, probably going to stick with the Samsung line and uh. To be honest, most people aren't going to be monkeying around with the settings as much as they think they are they're. Typically, just going to take the photos, you know as they come along they're not going to go and adjust the settings for it, but uh both you can't go wrong with them uh. So it's interesting uh, and you know either one you're going to get a fantastic phone and a fantastic camera phone.

It's like going into a store to pick a TV. You can see all the TVs on the wall which one's got the better picture, but once you get it in your home, that's the TV! You got same with the uh, the camera phone here, so uh. Furthermore, you know interesting. Furthermore, you know if you get a chance, uh show some of your friends and see what they think and see if they come up with the same results as you do. If you like this video, don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel uh hit the little bell there to get notifications when we've got new ones coming on, and please in the comment section tell me how you did with the quiz here as well.

I want to see how well I stacked up against the rest of the viewers out there. You.
