If, it ain't broke, don't fix it or so the saying goes. But what's that others saying change, never happens if you're inside your comfort zone, so in 2020 Samsung is going all-in. Rebuilding the Galaxy S 20s camera from the ground up, even if the SNS camera was pretty great, already a risk taken to ensure the new S 20 series of smartphones aren't just pretty great but amazing, hello from San Francisco, where Samsung just unveiled its latest flagship phone or should I, say, flagship phones, I'm, Michael, Josh, you're, watching gadget match, and in this video we go hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy s, 20s 20 + & s, 20 old truck, if you're just here for the cliff notes version. Let me lead with that. Here's everything you need to know about the galaxy s 20. There are three s: 20 models, as per usual, are the s 20 and s 20, + and new this year, the s 20 ultra for those who want a more profit on raft experience.
All phones have 5g support all have new and improved cameras. The s 20 starts at just under a thousand dollars. Pre-Orders start February 21st stones go on sale, starting March, 6, okay, now for the expanded story now I, don't know. This is just me being giddy about a new phone, but while Samsung has maintained its design, language I feel like it's been able to refine that design even further. Many of these adjustments are very subtle.
For example, corners are more rounded than on the s10, so it's more comfortable to grip button placements have been simplified. There are only two now all on the right and I, like this accent that wraps around these buttons up front. It's cleaner to the earpiece, isn't as obvious, and the punch hole is right here in the middle for more symmetry. Finally, their trademark curved display- that's been quite polarizing- is still there, but not as curved a reasonable middle ground, which I'm pretty sure will make both sides happy. But if there's one sore spot, it's got to be the size of the camera module that sticks out when you flip the phone around from a horizontal strip on the s10 to this rather large rectangle on the left-hand side of the phones even larger, on the s20 ultra.
But these are necessary concessions that Samsung had to make in order to make room for an entirely new camera system. There's a lot to talk about like larger image, sensors that let in more light the ability to zoom in further than before, 8k video capture and a host of new software features. Since the s60 sensor size on the galaxy s main camera has stayed the same size this year, though it gets a big upgrade and that's a good thing. As we always say, a bigger image sensor usually means better photos. The improvements are across the board on all three cameras: wide-angle telephoto and ultra wide-angle, the s20 ultra with its 108 megapixel.
Camera has an even larger sensor, currently the largest in the market today, okay, so some of you might be thinking plenty of megapixels is great if I make a lot of large prints. But how is it practical for the everyday user? Good question by default? Photos taken, aren't full 108, megapixel images; instead, every nine pixels are fused into one. So you end up with one photo with plenty of detail. Samsung calls this process no, not bidding. We've seen the similar approaches on other smartphones before, but Samsung is pretty bullish about the tech.
That's on the s20 and before you guys say it in the comments section I know: Xiaomi has a one hundred eight megapixel sensor smartphone, but did you know that that sensor was actually developed by Samsung I wish I could show you sample photos, but that will have to wait for our review, but Samsung says, expect better photos in low light and when capturing objects in motion before we move on a little note about the selfie camera, apart from being moved from the top right to the top center, both the s 20 and the S 20 plus have only one selfie camera. Now last year the S 10 plus had two on paper. It looks like it's the same selfie camera as last year. It's sufficiently wide here's one I took on the S 20 with Chaney my producer for even more resolution. The s20 ultra has a 40 megapixel front camera.
Another focus area for Samsung was zoom on the S 20 and s 20, plus you get three times: lossless zoom and up to 30 times, hybrid zoom and on the s 20 ultra. They have something called space zoom, giving you 10x lossless zoom and up to a hundred times, hybrid zoom, with so many zoom options. How does one get to the desired zoom point? Well from the camera app, it's pretty easy click here to zoom, as you normally would, and over here on the side, you'll get the option to pick the level of zoom. Finally, video capture also gets a major upgrade 8k video capture at 24 frames per second is now possible. Perfect if you also have Samsung's new 8kq, LED TV, because now you'll have a device that can shoot.8K content that you can view on it and being able to cast is also now easier. All you have to do is tap your phone on the TV now because you're shooting a video in such a high resolution.
The galaxy s 20 will also let you pick your favorite moment from that video and store it as a 33 megapixel photo from the gallery app just scrub through the video and pick the frame that you like best. Another nifty software feature is called single tape mode. You know when a moment is taking place, and you can't quite figure out do I want to take a photo. Do I want to capture a video? Well now you don't have to choose just switch to single take mode and the phone will capture photos and videos simultaneously for 10 seconds once you're done. It will then offer you a curation of the best moments.20/20 marks a new direction for Samsung, instead of focusing on you, software and hardware this year. It's all about creating new and innovative experiences, and they believe 5g will be instrumental in making that happen.
All phones in the s20 lineup will have 5g support and for those who are more technically inclined, the s20 will support these sub 6 standard, while he has 20 plus Ultra will support both sub six and millimeter wave. If that sounds Greek to use, don't worry it's a bit too much for me to understand. Also, but the good news is, you: can click over to here to watch my friend David Logan's, video, all about 5g among the many benefits of a 5g phone coupled with a carrier that supports it are faster speeds, while streaming mobile games and at launch Samsung is teaming up with Microsoft to bring Fora Street to the mobile platform. The game will be available for pre-order from the Galaxy store very soon speaking of partnerships, there's also one with Spotify that integrates with routines on the s20 and dedicated gesture controls on the new Galaxy Buds Plus, which is also launching in this range of colors and will retail for $149 starting March 6. Google Duo is also now built into the OS.
You know Google's video calling application ? la FaceTime on the iPhone, that's now built into the contacts app and if you make dual calls from one galaxy as 20 to another. These video calls can be in full HD before we wrap up. Here are other bits of information about the galaxy s 20 that you shouldn't miss, and we'll do it in just under a minute. Let's go processor, 7, nanometer, XE, nose or snapdragon, depending on where you live, a baseline of 128 gigabytes of storage across the board, 12 gigabytes of memory 16. If you buy the ultra and different battery capacities, depending on model from 4,000 to 5,000 William hours, yes, 20 and as twenty-plus have 25 watt fast chargers.
The s20 ultra has a 45 watt one and, let's not forget the display. It's a big deal on the s20. There are three different screens sizes depending on the model, but all come with a gorgeous 120 Hertz AMOLED display that buttery, smooth refresh rate, is hard to capture on camera and was once a feature only seen on high-end gaming phones say goodbye to the headphone jack. It's gone on all models. The S 10 still had it on the right side, there's still space for a micro SD card up to one terabyte.
Finally, let's talk about colors cloud. Pink is exclusive to the s20 cloud. Blue is available on the s20 and s 20 plus, and the s 20 ultra only comes in cosmic gray and cosmic black made it. The entire s, 20 line will go on sale, starting March 6, but you can pre-order starting February 21st on Samsung comm, those who pre-ordered get a hundred 150 or 200 dollars in store credits respectively. Samsung is also keeping the S 10 lineup available at a reduced price of a hundred and fifty dollars.
