Samsung Galaxy A71 Unboxing, Hands On & First Impressions!

What's going on guys, my name is Wade with tech daily and in this video we'll be checking out the new Samsung Galaxy a 71. Now this phone, of course, is the successor to last year's a 70 which was a super popular phone both internationally and here in the US and I think the a-series line is finally getting the respect it deserves here in the States, and I'm excited to see Samsung pushing this device even more here this year. This time around Samsung brings some pretty interesting updates to this phone, but it still retails at a pretty competitive price. In my opinion, for what you're getting and honestly as this phone starts to launch in more places and gets picked up by various carriers in the coming months, it wouldn't surprise me to once again see the 71 as one of the most popular mid-range options. Before, we jump into the unboxing. Let's talk about pricing and availability.

First, this phone has had sort of a soft launch here and is currently available, unlocked from places like Amazon for around 450 bucks, which is actually pretty crazy, because Samsung themselves are selling this device on some of their international websites for a little more than 500 US dollars. Obviously, as more and more retailers get this phone in I'm thinking, that price will come down gradually, especially with certain carrier deals and if you are interested in doing some comparison, shopping of your own I'll have links to where you can buy this phone down below in the video description at its cheapest current prices so check down there. So you don't miss out in regard to the unboxing experience, it's actually pretty similar to the 51 which we just checked out a couple of days ago inside the package, we've got that shiny new phone sitting front and center right. When we lift off the lid, as you guys can see, I went with a prism crush blue color, but you also have a choice of black white and pink as well, depending on your region, digging a little deeper inside the box. We also get an international wall adapter, since this is the international version of this phone and a USB c2, USB, cable, and you'll notice that this is the 25 watt superfast charger, which is a step-up from the charging speeds that are supported with some lower end.

A series phones also included in the box are some earbuds, since the 71 does retain the headphone, which is great, and these aren't too bad. They do have the in ear rubber, ear, tip design. Finally, inside a little hidden box, that's stuck in the lid you'll also come across a bit of paperwork and a clear rubber case, which I think is a nice addition. You can keep that brand-new phone safe right out of the box, so with all that out of the way, we'll peel off the last bit of plastic, wrap and unveil the 71 in that prism, crush blue color, which I think is probably be the nicest color option out there for this phone and actually, if you want to go one step further with undressing this device, there's a few clear plastic stickers protecting the polished sides of the phone to which you can also remove so powering on this phone and setting it up for the very first time. I think a lot of you will notice that this device is very similar to the 51 which we did check out just a couple of days ago, and actually, if you want to see a quick side-by-side comparison there, you go.

It's super difficult to tell these phones apart physically, but there are obviously some notable differences that make the 71 better. Overall and I will have a full on dedicated comparison. Video in the coming days, that'll go over everything, but for now, I do want to just focus on the 71 and what all this phone has to offer. Ba 71 is a six point: seven inch device that rocks a plastic build and just like most of the other, a series devices, though you really wouldn't know that this phone retails for a third of the S series phones, because it looks and feels really nice. The hard plastic around back is both nice to look at and feels premium to, and it's tough to tell on camera.

But there is a bit of a lined and crisscross design pattern etched into the turquoise color. In addition to that finish, giving off a rainbow reflection in certain lighting conditions, so, overall, a unique looking phone and obviously Samsung has continued to offer these unique finishes across a lot of their latest devices. The hard plastic frame is a polished, color matching finish, and overall, the phone has some nice weight to it. Even though there isn't much metal to be found on the right side of the device, you'll find the volume and power buttons and on the left, just your sim and SD card tray, nothing else on either sides of the device beyond this underneath we've got the headphone jack like I mentioned earlier. The USB-C charging port and one single downward firing speaker around back I is where you'll find the biggest change with the 71.

A new for lens camera set up in that square module really across the entire new. A series lineup for 2020 I think this is where Samsung decided to make the most changes, and I'll talk about everything. That's new with them in just a minute. The 6.7 inch display is a Super AMOLED plus panel, with a resolution of 2,400 by 1080 and packing around 393 pixels per inch from the 70 to the 71. We lose that teardrop notch and gain that nice infinity.

Oh camera cutout, which I think looks great and there's also just a bit smaller of a bottom bezel as well. Device offers a 20 by 9 aspect ratio and that elongated screen style is certainly something we've seen consistently from Samsung now for a while. If I have to pick one feature, I, absolutely love about not only the 71 but really all of Samsung's a series phones, it has to be the display, especially in the mid-range and budget space. I, don't think, there's a manufacturer that can compete with what Samsung offers here when I first saw with the 850 had last year, I was immediately hooked and for the price, I think the 71 and the 51 for that matter. Both offer the best displays they're, bold they're bright, and they really look good from every angle.

Also, I know it's not a huge deal, but ditching the teardrop notch and offering that infinity, Oh display was really the right move. The front facing camera cutout is small enough to be ignored and I. Think it's the finishing touch on a really nice looking display. One thing to note, though, in regard to the screen: the phone ships with a built-in screen protector, which is fine, it's always good to stay protected. It's more of a film not like a tempered glass or anything like that, but it is something to consider when you set up your fingerprint using the in display.

Reader I found it to be mostly fine so far, but it can probably improve once I, ditch the screen protector and that's just sort of the way things are. Unfortunately, I ran into the same sort of situation with the 51 as well, with the fingerprint sensor being less than ideal, and I suspect that the screen protector does have something to do with it. Inside the 71 is powered by a decent-sized, 4500 William battery, which I think is fairly competitive in regard to the specs. We've got a Qualcomm snapdragon, 730 processors and Arena 618 GPU, and either 6 gigs or 8 gigs of ram, depending on the model you go with and in all honesty, I think these specs are really impressive for a phone at this price point now, no, this phone can't compete with a note line or S line. Obviously, but what you do get is a phone that's going to perform really well, both in everyday use and when you push it a bit harder with graphics, intense games, multitasking and more and I think, especially if you're comparing this phone to last year's a 70 or if you're, considering this year's a 51, the specs offered by the 71 are pretty significant, deciding factor beyond that: the phone ships with Android 10 and one UI 2 out of the box, and even if you don't necessarily use this phone to its fullest potential I think you'll still appreciate the fast and smooth software experience.

Now, if you do buy the International or unlocked version of this device, you'll find some random pre-installed apps and a lot of Google, Samsung and Microsoft stuff, but not a lot to complain about honestly and with 128 gigs of storage and an SD card slot available anyway. There's nothing to complain about. Ok. So let's talk about these cameras, since this is probably the biggest upgrade over last year's phone, the 71 obviously has a brand-new camera module design, and it now packs four different lenses. There's a 64 megapixel main shooter, a 12 megapixel ultra-wide lens, the 5 megapixel depth sensor for live, focus, shots and a 5 megapixel macro lens.

Now everything with the camera hardware has been upgraded over the 70, but that macro lens is also a completely new addition entirely. It's a lens specifically made for taking pictures up close. It's kind of a strange addition really and me personally, I think I still would have preferred a telephoto lens instead, but I guess we'll see how much use I get out of this thing, and honestly I appreciate Samsung's efforts in offering something a little different and in regard to the front-facing camera, there appears to be a slight hardware upgrade here too. The aperture has changed a bit at least on the spec sheet, but it's tough from to see any other significant changes, at least in the short time I've had this phone so far, and as far as I'm aware, there doesn't seem to be any other new updates or noticeable changes either on the software or hardware side. Now, I will absolutely be putting these new cameras to the test.

In a dedicated video, but I think the important thing to stress here is that, especially in the budget and mid-range space, smartphone cameras have been a ways off from flagship phones, but this time around with the 71 and by extension, the 51 Samsung really seems to be putting the focus on that camera hardware, and I'm really interested to see how good of a job they did and how these phones might compare to a flagship device. So there you go. That's a first look at the brand new Samsung Galaxy, a 71 I'm really excited to try this phone out in the coming days and also compare it to the 51 to maybe see which device is the better value. If you have any questions at all about this phone, let me know in the comments down below, and I'll, try and answer them. The best I can and also, let me know what you think about the 71 in general, especially if you're considering it as your next smartphone, but hopefully you guys did enjoy this video, be sure to follow tech daily on Twitter and subscribe to the tech daily.
