Samsung Galaxy A52 5G Review: A $500 Bargain By Android Digest

What's going on YouTube, my name is Zach with android digest, and today I'm going to be reviewing the Samsung Galaxy a52, and this is the 5g version, the version that costs 500 in the US- and I want to let you know if it's worth spending that 500 on I want to let you know if it is worth your hard-earned money. So let's get straight into the review and let's get it started all right. So looking at this phone, I just have to say it is amazing. When you look at the specs and the price, it really fits in nicely at 500 dollars, because this phone is a 6.5-inch screen with a gorgeous resolution. It's a 2400 by 1080 resolution. It's got a snapdragon 750 g for the processor, so there's no Enos version, it's just straight up snapdragon.

So this is a very fast phone, even if it's not a flagship processor. It also has six gigabytes of ram in the base model and eight gigabytes and upgraded models, and it does have a 4500 William battery a huge battery. The screen also has a 120 hertz refresh rate, and you've got quad cameras on the back, and this phone also has water resistance and fast charging. So if we just look at all that think about the Google Pixel 4a 5g, that phone does not have water resistance, and that is a huge deal to most people. You get your phone around kids or other things that is a monstrous deal.

This phone also has a bigger screen than the Google Pixel 4 a5g. It's got a brighter screen, so the Google Pixel- yes, it will have a little of better software, but for 500 this phone has phenomenal specs and that's what we need to know that this phone on paper is going to be one of the best phones you're going to see for 500, and we see that as well with the design. Now. Yes, there are some compromises. Of course this isn't a 1 000 flagships.

So you do see plastic here on the back, but it reminds me of the galaxy s21 plastic, so it looks perfect. It is a really nice plastic and I think you're just going to put a case on it anyway, but you see a similar camera bump here to the galaxy s21 again you get that quad camera setup. You do see a headphone jack as well, so they're putting a lot of premium features on mid-range phones. We do see an USB c port here and a really, really nice speaker. I really do feel this phone gets very loud now on the right side of the phone.

You're going to see the power button up and down on the volume on the top of the phone. You're going to see a micro SD card slot. Another good feature to have, and you're also going to see your sim card slot is in the same place as well. Now, if we look at the front of the phone, there are bezels on the top and the bottom, I'm not really bothered by it, and you do have your front-facing camera there, so the design I feel is very premium. I feel they have features that even the regular galaxy s21 or even the 1 000 galaxy s21 models right.

They don't have these great features, so I really, really like the features and I really don't mind the plastic design. I think this is really well-built now, if we look at the screen itself in the display. This is where I'm really impressed, and we're talking about an upgrade from the a51 or the a51 5g. This is a really nice upgrade. This actually has a beautiful, beautiful resolution, a beautiful screen, so it has a 2400 by 1080 resolution.

Again, it's a 6.5-inch screen, but get this again. It's a 120 hertz refresh rate- and I know some of you might not care about that, especially if you're looking in this mid-range price point, but the Google Pixel 4 a5g only has a 90hz refresh rate. This has 120 hertz, and that just means things look so, so smooth. So if you're coming from a previous galaxy, a model you're going to be really impressed with how smooth things look as you're scrolling and also when you're watching entertainment and shows- and things like that, the screen looks great because it gets very, very bright. We're talking 800 nits of brightness again, that is an upgrade from even the Google Pixel 5 or the 4a 5g.

So I'm a huge Google fan for me. Sometimes I do like a smaller phone and the pixel 5 really meets that need. But when you're looking at this, it's a big screen. So if you're debating between the s21, and you're debating between this phone, I've got to say if you want a bigger screen, this is probably even better than the s21, especially when you consider the price point right. So I really, really like the display and the performance is very, very good as well.

It's a snapdragon 750 g, and that is a 5g processor. So you do get 5g on this phone six gigabytes of ram again in the base model, so things are very, very smooth, and again I compare this to the Google Pixel 5, because that has the snapdragon 765 g and these processors are very, very similar in speed. So there's not a big difference between this in the pixel 5 or the pixel 4 a5g they're going to go side by side as far as performance. So everything was pretty smooth in my testing. I didn't really get many hiccups with the performance.

The only weird hiccup I got is really a one UI issue. I saw this on my tab, s7 recently as well, but every once in a while when I have something up like the web browser. Let's say I've been using it for a while. If I swipe it away and quickly swipe up to get to my apps. Sometimes it works, but every once in a while it doesn't every once in a while.

It rejects my input because it's in the middle of minimizing that now it's not all the time, I would say it's pretty rare, maybe 10 percent of the time or something like that. Now, that's not a huge issue, but when you look at the Google Pixel 5 that again has a similar speed on the processor or the pixel 4 a5g and those phones do not have this issue, so I would say that one UI needs to be updated a little. I would expect those things to be smoothed out anyway. So when you look at performance bottom line, is this phone performs very similarly to 500 to 700 phones? It's very, very fast, and I wouldn't say your average person would even notice the difference between this and the Samsung Galaxy s21. I think it's a minor difference and I think most users are going to enjoy this, though some people might want that extra boost of performance and as far as gaming is concerned.

No, this is not a phone that you're going to game with everything on the highest settings. It's going to be medium to high settings on most games, but it still games very well, even if it's not quite as good as like the pixel 5 or some high-end Samsung flagships. Now. One thing I do want to look at is the software experience. So I mentioned some minor hiccups when I was going through- and I think a lot of that again is software related.

But if you look at other things in the software, I am really impressed with Samsung first off that they do bring a lot of features to their smartphones. So if I swipe down and bring up the settings here, you're going to notice a lot of features that Samsung has and if you go through their settings, they're adding more and more features all the time. So I really appreciate what Samsung does with their software. No, it's not vanilla, android, and I know some of you want that, but they are also allowing you to uninstall a ton of Samsung apps. In fact, right now I only have three Samsung apps here on my phone, I've got the AR zone Bixby and my files.

Everything else really. Let me uninstall almost everything, at least, so we're looking at a great software experience where Samsung is finally realizing hey. We should probably let some people uninstall some of this bloatware and when I swipe left on my home screen, it does bring up the Google feed, so you can actually use the Google feed every day instead of using that dumb Samsung news or whatever they had the daily board. So I really, really like this. I really like Samsung's software approach and Samsung is now giving three full years of big software updates.

I'm talking full android upgrades they're, giving three years of that to the Samsung Galaxy a52, and it came with android 11, so expect three more years of updates and four years of security updates and that's incredible to see out of a Samsung phone. So I really appreciate their commitment to software, even if it's not quite as good as google, quite as smooth, even if it's not vanilla, android, it's still one of the best experiences around, mainly because of their commitment to updates. Now the battery life is also phenomenal because of that 4500 William battery great battery life, I got through pretty much every day, and it's a bigger battery than even the Samsung Galaxy s21. Also, if we look at other features, this does have a fingerprint sensor in the screen, and it works pretty well most of the time when I put a screen protector on it, it's fascinating most of the time it does work, but every once in a while, it doesn't work great. So I had to re-register all my fingerprints and I would still have some issues off and on depending on how dry my hand is- and things like that, so that is one benefit you're going to see in something like the Google Pixel 4 a5g is.

The fingerprint sensor is on the back, it's very reliable all the time, but on this phone it's mostly reliable, but when you put a screen protector on it, I think a lot of us want to protect our screens with tempered glass and unfortunately that could hinder your experience. Of course, you can go in the settings and increase your touch sensitivity with a screen protector on, so that does help a little, and you should re-register your fingerprints that will also help but either way I do prefer the fingerprint sensor in something like the Google Pixel 5, but this does work really well, especially if you do not use a timber glass. Now, let's talk about the camera, the camera, I would say, is good. It still has the normal Samsung thing where they try to smooth your face. There are settings that you need to turn off or turn down.

If you don't want all that, and even then I still don't love the colors as much as something like the Google Pixel, but these pictures are really, really good. You can see these portrait shots. I've got to myself and my daughter and my family, my wife. I thought a lot of these shots came out really, really well. Furthermore, I think cameras now are starting to get so good that most of us don't even notice the difference with a lot of these things.

So the cameras are absolutely great on this. The video is good. The front-facing camera is also good. Now there are four cameras on this device. It's a quad camera setup.

There's a 64 megapixel wide camera. You also have a 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 5 megapixel macro camera and a 5 megapixel depth sensor. So when you think of all those different cameras, you have to understand a lot of times, you're going to see a little lower quality in those secondary cameras. They're still good though, but I don't think a lot of people are going. Going to use things like the macro camera, so the bottom line is get perfect shots in portrait mode.

When you get those really up close and personal shots, and I thought other shots looked good as well of my family or of nature so yeah. I really, really like this camera and I think it's good. It's just a step-down from that flagship level, all right. So, let's summarize what we've gone over so far, you have a really amazing screen, an amazing display. You have perfect performance, not great, but it's very, very close right.

You've got a 120hz refresh rate, a huge 4500 William battery. So when you compare this to the galaxy s, 21 lineups- and this has a SD card slot- this has a headphone jack. I really think Samsung is sort of poaching their own customers, because for five hundred dollars you could get a phone with eighty or ninety percent of the speed, at least for your average person you're, not going to notice a huge difference. You're going to get water resistance, you're going to get a headphone jack, a SD card slot, so you're getting features that the higher end models don't even have, and a lot of us don't care with having an aluminum build or something we just want something we can put a case on. So when you factor all that stuff in there's, not a ton of reasons to go up in price anymore.

So, honestly, I think this is the phone that the majority of users should get now, there's going to be other phones in the galaxy, a lineup you're going to notice other phones like the regular galaxy a51, and that is a perfect value as well. It's got a 90 hertz refresh rate, it's still plenty snappy, even if it's not as fast as this. So I'm not saying you shouldn't consider any other phones in the lineup, I'm just saying when you're looking at a device with a 6.5-inch screen, and you're, looking at what device you should buy, this is going to be one of the best devices in the Samsung Galaxy lineup. I think it compares extremely favorably to the galaxy s21 or other phones, and even though it is missing some things like the snapdragon 888 or the snapdragon 865, it doesn't have those processors' no, but it's still plenty fast for your average person. It still has water resistance.

It has a really, really good camera, so there are a lot of things to like in it. So if you're asking me, should you buy this phone, I would say to about 80 or 90 of you. Yes, this is a heck of a deal. So hopefully all of this advice helps you to figure out what you want to buy, but yeah, I would say this is a great phone check, the links in the description.
