Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: Baby Galaxy S10?

What up guys, Miguel here from Yuma Tech and finally, finally, finally, we get to share our thoughts and views about the new Samsung Galaxy a 50. This phone is a big step for the tech giant and, yes, it seems like Samsung is trying to crush their Chinese competitors in the mid-range segment and for $17,995. There is so much to love about this mid-range phone, but we also kind of have a few things we don't like about it too, so keep watching and find out. So there's nothing too fancy about the box here, it's the usual Samsung, aesthetic, we're used to, and that's a good thing. So, let's open it up, then there's the 50 unit itself under it, a USB, type-c, cable, 15, watt, adapter, wired earphones and there's also the sim ejector ? will deep down there now focusing on the device itself. It's looking fresh compared to the rest of the series we were so used to before.

First, there's that funky looking back that emits this rainbow like reflection, which they like to call plastic and from the name itself we're assuming it's more plastic than glass. We have the black variant here, but you can also get it in blue or white. It's nice to see a new look instead of the usual gradient design, but just like the gradient design, phones, they're, just as smudgy. Also, at the back are it's triple camera setup with an LED flash and Samsung logo. Frankly, I can say that the 50 is one of the best designs.

Samson did for the series now located on the right are all the necessary volume and power buttons. There's no dedicated Bigamy button. But if you wanted that functionality, you could add that functionality to the power button by going to the settings menu and adding it to that power button, which you probably don't by the way. Meanwhile, on the left, is a triple card slot for two NATO SIM cards and a micro SD card. On top, you can find the noise-cancelling microphone for speakerphone, while at the bottom you get a headphone jack, speaker, grille microphone and yes, a USB type-c port.

Damn it's good to be living in 2019. Moving to display there's no way you can miss that teardrop notch, which Samsung is calling the infinity you display in it recites the twenty-five megapixel front camera. You can hide the notch in the settings menu if it bothers you and know that there's no LED indicator here are the newly released Samsung devices. It's not giving off this small flare like animation whenever you're using the face unlock or when using the front-facing camera. Overall, you get a six point.

Four inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 by twenty-three forty complimented with slim bezels, a slightly less slim chin and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display is top-notch typical, Samsung the colors look, definitely vivid and viewing angles are great. It can still be easily viewed even under direct sunlight when maximum brightness is used. I also like that the brightness can get really low, but still be visible, especially when you're on your phone in the middle of the night. I appreciate that the display matches its software really well, and that is of course one UI.

It's pretty customizable, and it gives a feeling that you're using one of the smartphones in the s10 series- and we like it, not to mention that amazing dark mode feature. One UI is powered by Android 9 Pi, and it's got a few pre downloaded apps like Spotify, Facebook, Google and Microsoft Office, and as well as Bigamy Oh Bigamy. When it comes to navigation buttons, you'll have more choices to customize it. If you want a full screen experience by using gestures or the old bar type. One now powering the Galaxy.

A 50 is an X Tennis 9610, with four or six gigs of ram and a 64 or 128 gigs of internal storage unit. We have packed six gigs of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal storage, and it delivers excellent performance when it comes to basic activities from scrolling through social media, taking phone calls messaging to taking a hell out of selfies and when it comes to playing heavy games and intensive video streaming, there won't be many issues and this phone can absolutely handle them smoothly. Even with the highest settings available. As for benchmarks check out the scores, we got. Okay quickly, let's talk about audio quality, actually that single downward firing speaker at the bottom really isn't that bad when playing music from that thing, it can sound, really clear, and it can get pretty loud but, like usual right, right, Samsung, stock music right there, but like most phones in this segment with the single downward firing speaker, it's just so easy to cover up and if you're playing games.

That could be a problem for you feel me, you feel me, but I don't know if you were playing games or watching movies or consuming media. On this thing, you might wanna just use that 3.5 millimeter audio jack, that comes with this phone having the security I'm mostly disappointed. One of the selling points of the galaxy. A 50 is that in display optical fingerprint scanner, which doesn't quite work all the time, but if it does work, it's actually pretty safe. I mean, however safe an optical scanner can be, however, it's as safe as it gets a hard time scanning or matching the fingerprints at times and I.

Don't know if my screen is always filled with smudges or if my finger is in the wrong position, or it's just naturally slow compared to other smartphones, with a normal optical in display scanner, but I encountered too many errors, and mostly it tells me to keep my finger on the sensor a little longer or worse. It tells me that there's just no fingerprint match I kind of wish. Samsung just placed a regular scanner at the back of this phone. Nonetheless, its facial recognition is more reliable. Just make sure you have enough lighting for battery, you get a generous 4000 William hour capacity with 15 watt fast charging by a USB type-c with the included charger.

You'll get a 50 fully charged in more or less two and a half hours. Meanwhile, in our PC mark battery test, a 50 got a total of 14 hours and 43 minutes, but in our regular video loop test, which is playing a 1080p video at 50%, brightness 50% volume with earphones and airplane mode turned on. We got a total of 16 hours, so surely the 50 could get through a whole day with slightly heavy use and a day and a half with moderate use. Now, that's all said: let's move on to cameras coming in with a triple rear camera setup, you get a 25 megapixel primary lens 8 megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 123 degree, field of view and a 5 megapixel depth sensor for selfies. It's got a 25 megapixel shooter with an aperture rating of f2.

The camera app itself has a lot in store for you to explore. So there's panorama: Pro, Live Focus, the usual photo video you get slow-motion hyperlapse and AR emoji and Bixby vision. Generally, the 50 produces superb shots, but tiny details can look very smudgy when shooting in poor lighting conditions or if you have shaky hands so make sure to take numerous shots. As long as you have good lighting, the camera can capture great photos. Take a look at our sample shots.

However, just like other mid-range devices, it still struggles in low-light situations, and this is probably due to Samsung's aggressive algorithm. But the real highlight of its cameras is the ultra wide-angle lens, and it is amazing and useful. In selected cases the colors don't accurately match the photos taken from the primary lens, but the photo still look great talk about selfies, there's no wide-angle option here, but the photos come out good and even better than what you get from the galaxy m20. Also, selfies, look extra vibrant in the a50 under good lighting. Another good thing about the cameras is the live, focus or both feature.

It allows you to adjust the blur, so you get better effect on your shots for videos you can play around with the ultra wide-angle hyperlapse and 240 frames per second slow motion recording check out our sample videos. Okay, it's time. Let's talk about price, the Samsung Galaxy a 50 comes with a seventeen thousand nine hundred ninety per sec, and that's for the six gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of internal storage Vary. It's really a game changer for Samsung, and I think it's right for what this phone can offer. However, I wouldn't say it's the best phone at this price range for around the same price.

You can get the Redmi Note 7 and Poco phone f1, although the 50 s got that updated, look and UI. After all, it does seem like Samsung's marketing. This thing like a baby Samsung Galaxy S 10, so it is indeed a powerful mid-range device that you might want to consider adding to your options. So what did you guys think of the Samsung Galaxy a 50?
