Samsung Galaxy A31 in 2021 - (Still Worth It?)

Is the Samsung Galaxy 831 worth buying in 2021. Well in this video, we're going to find out hey everybody. This is Andre here covering for Kevin on the Kevin breeze channel, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy a31 these days you can get this phone factory unlocked for GSM carriers, for more information on price and availability, be sure to check the link in the description below now. This phone has a 6.4 inch super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p and a PPI of 411. The phone has an aspect: ratio of 20x9 and an 84.9 screen to body ratio. So, as you can see very thin bezels here, which is really nice, I really like this look.

It gives it a nice modern, look. We have a water drop here for the front facing camera, and this camera is 20 megapixels, very impressive, for a front-facing camera. The only thing I really don't like about this camera is that it is a water drop instead of a hole punch with the sleek look from the thin bezels. I honestly think the hole punch would make this phone a lot nicer. Looking the water drop, in my opinion, is more of a retro dated look and the hole.

Punch is definitely a lot cleaner. Looking, but then again that is my personal preference. You might like the water drop. So at the end of the day, it still is a good camera and the phone still does look nice. Now.

This phone has 128 gigabytes of internal storage with micros expansion, which is really impressive for a phone around this price range usually they're around 32 or 64 gigabytes of internal storage. They also have micros card expansion and even the iPhone that's much more expensive than this phone starts out at 64 gigabytes, so with 128 gigabytes of internal storage, you're definitely going to get a lot of value and a lot of storage. Out of this. To give you an idea of what this looks like in action right now, I have everything that I personally use on a daily basis downloaded onto the phone, and it's only taking up 23 of the storage. If you take a lot of photos and videos and have lots of large apps on the phone, then you're definitely going to benefit from this.

Now, there's no wireless charging on this phone, unfortunately, but it does have a fingerprint scanner. This fingerprint scanner is actually on the screen, which I personally really like. Let's give it a try now there we go: let's try one more time as you can see, although it is an on-screen fingerprint scanner, it is very fast and responsive. Just like a normal one, that is on the back of the phone. I personally prefer the on-screen scanner.

I think that now that it's 20 21 and phones are getting more and more modern, looking the more things that can be digital, the better and having an on-screen fingerprint scanner definitely helps with this, since it is on the screen. It also does prevent any debris from actually messing up the fingerprint scanning itself with a physical scanner. If anything gets on it, it might not read your fingerprint properly, but with a digital scanner, it's most likely going to be a little more reliable. This phone has faced unlock as well, which I personally really like it's a feature I use, often and being able to choose between a fingerprint scanner and face unlock or even having both is really nice, because sometimes depending on the situation, one might work better than the other and being able to use both is really nice. Taking a look at the camera setup here we do have a quad camera set up with a 48 megapixel, rear camera and eight megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 5 megapixel depth, sensing camera and a 5 megapixel macro camera.

So this camera setup really does have it all. It's really nice to see a 48 megapixel camera on a phone like this. It's going to be able to take some great quality pictures and having a higher megapixel ultra-wide camera is a plus as well. Ultra-wide is a feature that I personally often use, and if you take lots of photos, then I'm sure you're going to get a lot of use out of that. The macro camera is good too.

It's becoming more and more common, but a lot of phones, especially in this price range. Don't quite have the macro camera yet, so it's really nice to see that this phone does. This is the normal camera mode, of course, and if you hit this button right here, you can go into ultrawide, and you can access portrait mode with the live focus right here and then, if you go to the more tab here, you can access the macro camera and this is the front-facing camera. The quality of this camera is really impressive. I really do like the crisp image and, of course, you can go into portrait mode with a live focus right here.

One thing I really like about this phone's portrait mode is that you can control the blur of the background. So if you don't want it to be as blurred out or if you want it to be more blurred out, you can definitely control it and play around with it and find the best lighting and image for you doing a quick test of the video mode of the phone right now we are shooting in 1080p, also keep in mind the audio quality. So, as you can see, that was the video mode of the phone, it does shoot in quality up to 1080p, which honestly is a little disappointing to me. I would think that a phone with as many nice camera features as this one has would be able to shoot in 4k as well, but at the end of the day it still does look good, and also the audio quality is good as well. I can definitely appreciate good audio quality from a phone like this, because personally, I don't always like to use headphones or speaker when I'm consuming content on a phone, and sometimes I do like to play things out loud just from the phone.

A lot of mid-range smartphones like this one in this price range, tend to have more distorted audio at higher volumes, and this phone really doesn't a lot. So, although it's not able to shoot in 4k, it does have a lot of other great features and the playback is perfect. Now, internally, we're getting four gigabytes of ram with the MediaTek hello p65 processor. We ran a geek bench 5 benchmark test on this phone, and it has a single core score of 352 and a multi-core score of 1238. These are definitely some good numbers, especially in this price range.

It is definitely faster than a lot of mid-level smartphones and will give you the processing power to do more intense activities like some photo and video editing and higher content consumption, as well as some gaming. Now, of course, this is great for basic activities as well. If you just want to have a phone, that's a little faster and still only use it for basic activities. Then this phone is gonna, have no problem doing that and in this price range is still a perfect value. If you're unsure on whether to choose a phone like this or one of the older flagship phones that has even more processing power, keep in mind that those older flagship phones are not going to be able to run on the latest version of android they're, most likely going to be on android, 8 or 9, whereas this phone runs on android 10.

If you do want higher processing power and having the latest version of android is important to you, then this phone would definitely be a good option for that. As far as battery goes, this phone has a 5, 000 William hour battery and supports 15 watt fast charging. This is a very large battery, and it's going to give you a lot of life. Another thing to keep in mind when comparing a phone like this to an older flagship phone around the same price range. Is this battery? Not only is this phone newer and will have a more fresh battery, but the battery is huge.

A lot of those older flagship phones only have 3 000 to 3500 William hour batteries, whereas this one has a 5 000 William hour battery, so you're really going to get a lot of battery life and a lot of power out of this one, and although some of those older flagship phones might have higher processing capabilities, this phone really does have a bigger battery. So if you're on the go and battery life is important, then definitely keep this in mind as well. Now that we've gone over some specs of the phone, let's take a look at the hardware, so up top there's not a lot going on. We just got the noise-cancelling microphone right here and then our earpiece, as well as our front-facing camera on the bottom. Here we have a three and a half millimeter headphone jack, an USB charging port, the microphone and the speaker.

On the left side. We have the slot for the sim card and the micro SD card. On the left side, we have the volume up button, the volume down button and the power button on the back of the phone. We have our camera setup, our flash and then there's a Samsung logo right here. The back has a glossy finish and fingerprints surprisingly, don't show up very much.

There are quite a few on there right now, but you really don't see them a lot. Overall, the phone has a very sturdy build, and you can tell the materials are higher quality. The design is very sleek, and it looks really modern. I would say, however, it doesn't really feel like a high-end phone. It feels really lightweight and on one hand the phone doesn't feel cheap at all, but on the other hand it really doesn't feel very high end.

That being said, it looks decently modern, and I think it will age well and overall, besides the water drop on the front-facing camera, I really do like the design, and now we're going to take a look at what comes in the box. So in here we got our quick start guide, as well as a nice little phone case here now, keep in mind that this is more of a temporary phone case until you get a more permanent one, it's probably not going to hold up for long-term use, but at the same time it's really nice that they do include it a lot of phones, in fact, most phones. These days, don't come with a phone case at all. So with that in mind, it is good to have. We got a pair of three and a half millimeter headphones right here, an USB cable, our sim card removal tool and, of course, a wall adapter.

Now, in conclusion, is this phone worth buying in 2021? I definitely think this phone is worth buying in 2021, whether you're just looking for a device to do basic activities on or if you're looking for a more high performance device. This phone's going to be able to provide value and fit the needs of both situations. Now, if you're looking for ultra-high performance like doing heavy gaming and lots of video editing, then you might want to look at a more powerful device like the Samsung Galaxy a51. But if you're really looking for that mid-range of performance and want to do a little more than basic activities, then I definitely think this phone is a great option. But I hope you guys enjoyed the video if you did be sure to leave a thumbs up and subscribe, and I will see you in the next one.
