Samsung Galaxy A20 In 2020! (Still Worth It?) (Review)

Welcome back to the channel, so we're going to talk about another Samsung Galaxy phone and this time around, it's actually going to be one of the more budget phones that Samsung actually had to offer last year, and they're still selling them some places, but I believe the Samsung, Galaxy 821 actually came out, and I'm not really to sure why they're going with this naming strategy, but I kind of make sense. There's really nothing. I can do about it. So the Samsung Galaxy 820 came on in 2019 of March of last year, and it was pretty much like I've stated their budget offering of that year and I think they're a series. You know they 2810 850, all those phones, those offered some really great value for how much you were paying for them and me. Think now in even 2020 I think it's very surprising about how a phone like this can still operate and how it still runs in this day and age, and if you think about it, okay, this phone I think I paid, probably like $75 for it on eBay, fully working everything works on it brand new.

You can get them for less than 200 right now on Amazon they're going for about one hundred and ninety-three dollars so a little under 200 I'm sure they'll go down in price a little, but if you want to pick that up for the price I'll leave a link down in the description below you can get it from there, and I'll support the channel at the same time. But if you just think about it, okay, just a couple of years ago, a phone with these type of specs, you know even back in like I, think 2014 or something like that. That phone would be the flagship phone of that time. You know going back to the galaxy s4 dude, even the galaxy s5, those type of phones with these had kind of similar specs to this one in a lot of ways and this phone costs way less than those. So it's cool to see how budget phones are getting so much better nowadays, which is really, really cool.

Looking on the front, you can see me have a six point. Four inch Super AMOLED display it is a 720p display. Now the display is kind of it kind of goes in two parts, really I, don't think it's a bad display, but I really think it's a good display either. But when you remember the price that you're paying for this phone is really not that bad of a display on it. No here's the thing: okay, it's a Super AMOLED display, which is something I really do like, and I love, seeing all the displays, especially on a budget phone like this, but it is a 720p display.

So it's not full HD you're going to be kind of missing out on a couple of things here and there. But it's not the end of the world and I do think. At the end of the day, it's okay, I, don't think you're going to your know worry about it anytime soon, so I think at the end of the day, the display I think it's very average. But the cool thing is: is that even for a budget phone you don't even have that much bezel on this type of phone? You have that infinity. You display I think it's called an infinity V, whatever it is, and you have a little of bezel on the bottom, but other than that.

This phone is pretty bezel. This, which is cool, and you know you had before to pay. You know premium for that type of thing, but now we don't really have to do that on a phone like this, which is awesome, I love, seeing that so much on the bottom, you can see we have USB type-c port. We have a headphone jack as well on the back. You can see.

We have that fingerprint sensor, which is cool, I love having a physical fingerprint sensor there, and we have a dual camera setup and, like I've, seen it before. If you guys follow the videos, I've been saying that as long as the phone has a dual camera setup, then it's said you're pretty much set for a while and the quality I can't think of subjective. You know the obviously better the quality, the better the phone, but a phone like this with a dual camera setup: I, love, saying that and that's really, really cool and the way it feels in the hand it feels pretty premium. I think I mean it doesn't feel like a super cheap phone. It doesn't feel like it's about to break in your hands, I kind of say it feels kind of like in Galaxy S7, just a little less premium.

I think that's probably the best way I can put it, but it still feels like a very decent phone in the hands, and it doesn't feel like a cheap budget phone. If you know them now, there's no IP certification on this phone, which is kind of a big deal, especially now in 2020, where all these phones are having IP certification. But it does have a micro SD card slot, which is very cool. You can go and expand that storage, there's only 32 games on the base model, but you can go and expand that storage. If you want to, and literally that's the coolest thing ever man, I love, seeing this type of thing and like I, said for a budget phone, even though it's a year old I mean there's still a lot of going for it and I really do like the Galaxy, 820 I think it's fascinating.

How Samsung made this phone and this whole entire phone series and made these phones are really nice and I. Think coming from a galaxy 810 to a galaxy 820, the 820 is much better than the 810 which you might have already expected, but I would definitely recommend paying the price and praying premium to get the 820 over dates and now hitting on this software, the Samsung Galaxy 820 started off with the Android Pi and right now it is still on Android PI. It's not gotten the winning white 2.0 update, but that is the good news. It is getting that one UI 2.0 update at some point and that's really cool, and I think if I don't know how Samsung Galaxy a series devices are going to continue with their support. My thing is that you know I, maybe don't get the same support.

As you know, the Galaxy S series devices that came out that year. So that's ten came out last year. Obviously it and then you know it's getting 1ey 2.0 and that's definitely anyone UI 3.0, maybe even further, who knows both the series I, don't think that Samsung would keep supporting their budget phone series for as long as their s series, because they want there to be an incentive to pick up an S series and spend more money. So maybe you look at when you had a 3.0 I, don't know, but if I had to say it, I would probably say that I, don't think these Samsung Galaxy 820 is going to get one UI 3, but that we're talking you know a year or two down the line. So I wouldn't worry about it just right now, but it's kind of something to keep in mind while you're, not kind of you know, thinking about the longevity of this phone, but I'm sure there's going to be reputable roots and reputable custom ROMs coming out for this thing.

If there's not already, so I might do a video about it, custom run and see how it still runs. You know, but I guess we'll just see what happens, but that pretty much covers it up in terms the software now hitting on the performance. This phone has the Enos 78-84 chipset, an outscore CPU and there's only one model, the 32 gig model that has three gigabytes of RAM. Now what I can tell you about the performances is that, surprisingly, it's not as bad about performing devices. You might think you know, with those type of specs I.

Think the last the Galaxy S series device to bring three gigs of ram was the galaxy, s5 and I think this phone can definitely I. Think you know, depending on your usage, I, don't think you're going to feel like you have a super, slow phone and I. Don't know how to describe that better than just you know if you use cases very low, if you just go with Snapchat and things like that, you probably won't complain too much, but I found the biggest problem with this phone is the loading of the apps. So sometimes, when you click on an app it might, you know boot up right then, but just take so long to get through the set-ups and all those things when I went to Real Racing 3. It took me forever.

You know, even when I boot it up just takes the noticeable amount of time for it to go through the setup which is kind of annoy it's not the end of the world or anything. But that is something that kind of you know keeps you in the back you're heading you're like man. It does feel kind of like a slow phone, but if you're just calling people texting people going on the internet you're not really using your phone too much like if you just go on Instagram and things like that, I, don't really think you're going to notice that big of an issue, but if you're constantly on your phone, and you're using it constantly using all the time, you might notice some differences, you might notice some things where you're like man. This phone is extremely slow. However, with that being said, whenever I would do gaming or anything I've had for the most part, it was pretty decent.

Yeah, like when I did real racing.3 was kind of glitchy here and there, and I was hoping. It would be better at the end of the day, but it really was- and it was kind of like more so in the middle of performance wise but I. Think, at the end of the day, the Galaxy 820 can definitely handle its own if you're not expecting too much from it. But I think if you know if you're expecting too much from funding might as well go pick up like a Google, pixel, 3 or a Galaxy S8, or something like that. That can definitely do you much better than a Samsung Galaxy 820, in my opinion, so in terms of performance that really pretty much covers it.

No hitting on the cameras like I said this thing has a dual camera setup on the back: a 13, megapixel, wide-angle lens and then a 5 megapixel ultra light sensor and on the front there's an 8 megapixel lens on the front camera you can do 1080p videos which is nice, but there's no 4k video option, which kind of sucks, but what's whatever and the thing that sucks even more, is that on that back camera, even though you can do 1080p videos, you cannot do 1080p at 60 frames, which is kind of weird. But on top of that, you can't even shoot 4k videos on this thing and that's probably one of the biggest downgrades of this phone, and it's funny because the UI like as soon as you boot up the camera app, it looks almost identical to the Galaxy S series. You know that if I look up the galaxy s, 10 camera apps, it looks exactly the same, but the s 10 is obviously much more capable much more of a better camera in the galaxy 820. But that's still so weird that you cannot shoot 4k videos on this thing and even though you have a dual camera set up on this phone, that's still one area where, if it doesn't shoot 4k I would not recommend it in 2020, even though I shoot all my videos in 1080p, it's still good to have that type of capability. Just in case.

You want to go there in the future, so we're just talking about future ability here and that's one huge disadvantage that the Samsung Galaxy 820 has now ending it off with the battery life. This thing has a 4000 low power battery, it's not removable, but that is a very big sized battery and a very good-sized battery for a phone like this. If you think about it, a lot of phones coming on the market right now, I still have about like a 30-something William hour battery, like a 3500 3400, this one has a lower resolution display. It's really not even that powerful, but the battery life is better. Size is really, really big.

So when you combine all those things together, you have a very good battery life on this phone. You know it doesn't have a lot of power to power through, and it doesn't have a huge high-resolution screen of power and has a big screen, but it's not high-res because of that the battery life will definitely do you pretty well and I. Think the battery life is probably one of its biggest advantages for sure you can definitely get maybe more than 2 days out of it. If you really push hard enough, but definitely in one day, you're not going to kill it on basic usage. So that's definitely one of its biggest pros right there, not to kind of some video and to answer the question: should you pick up a Samsung, Galaxy, 820 and 2020? What I will tell you? Are you know if you is this is your only choice like if you have to buy a brand-new phone, and you have to go to Walmart or Best Buy, to pick it up, then yeah I'd probably recommend it? There's not a lot of budget phones that get you this type of value with that type of price.

However, what I will say is that still in the user market, you know this thing on Amazon is still selling for about $200 I, probably, would not recommend it at that price. I would recommend you picking up, probably like a pixel to excel or Samsung Galaxy, S and plus. If you need a bigger phone like that or Samsung Galaxy S8 plus those phones, I think will do you much better in the long run than this phone will I. Don't think this was bad. Obviously, it's perfect for a budget phone, but that price tag is still kind of high in the used market, and you can get a much better phone if you just kind of went the other way and picked up a sine plus or pixel to excel or is plus whatever the case is, so I'll go ahead and leave all these phones linked down in the description below, so you can get them from there for the cheapest prices that I find on Amazon, but that's pretty much it if you guys have any other questions or anything leave it down in the comment section as well, if I like bundle me so much, but definitely the subscribe button, every single subscriber that would get really discount so mean so much if you guys could hit that also check out the other links down in the description as well.
