S20 and S20+ Hands-On | 25 New Features Vs S10 & S10 Plus

So Samsung's Galaxy, S 20 and s 20-plus have finally officially launched after months of leaks and speculation. Another quick glance. They don't really appear to be that much different to last year's s, 10 and star. Besides a couple of not ten style design touches, but I had a sneaky play with the galaxy s 20 on the s, 20 plus, and a special Samsung pre-brief ahead of the launch event, and there is actually quite a lot of change packed into these handsets some goods and some not quite so good. So here is a hands-on run through some specs and features to see what has changed for these fresh 2020, Samsung blowers and from on the latest greatest tech. Please do poke subscribe and ignite notifications, Bell cheers so, let's start with design and the Galaxy S 20, and s 20 plus spot a glass finish just like last year's models, although you also now get a similar prism design to the galaxy, a 51 and a 71 which basically vomits out a rainbow of color whenever light bounces off a glossy surface, and it's quite an attractive bit of flair.

If that's your thing as for the dimensions, while the screen size has increased a wee bit over last year's flagship, so the galaxy s 20 is a 6.2 inches versus the 6.1 inch s10. And meanwhile, the s 20 plus, is a six point. Seven inch beast versus the six point: forage s10 Plus. Thankfully, both smartphones also have slightly slimmer bezels around the front end as well, so the dimensions themselves haven't increased too much. The s 20 in particular feels pleased Lee compact, compared with the S 20 plus and most other Android smartphones out there.

If I, the ES 20 plus, is definitely a lot more tricky to use. One-Handed I almost dropped it a couple of times in just my hours' player session, which, let me tell you in a room full of stern-looking Samsung execs is rather terrifying. I would not recommend it, and likewise the way it hasn't changed that much over last year's flagships either the standard s 2163 grams and the S 20 plus is 186, so just a smidgen heavier than the s10 family and another design change for the S 20 series is the basement of that Bigamy button from the edge of the phone like the new e-series phones. You now just have to long press the power button to call up Samsung's additional assistant, but unfortunately the headphone jack has also been called for these fresh new 20/20 handsets boo. As far as general ruggedness scores at noir concerns there.

You got ip68 water and dust resistance just like last year, so shower selfies are definitely a go For. Last year, when the s10 family launched, they came in quite a wide selection of colors as well, but in the s2 it's a lot more trimmed back, so the stuff that phone comes in a choice of just great, blue or pink, and meanwhile the Australians in either gray, blue or black. Hopefully, some sexy new shades will be launched later in 2020. The both of these blows sports, Samsung's, dynamic, AMOLED screen technology, complete with that infinity or pinhole camera. Just like the north series, personal I preferred the old design on the galaxy s 10.

With that pinhole camera Wednesday way into a corner. It felt a lot more pushed out the way less intrusive, especially when watching movies things like that. But it is just a teeny wee spectrum, the galaxy s, 20 phones, so it's definitely not worth getting your panties in a bunch over no change in the resolution bought the S 20 and the S 20 plus boss, a quad HD display for pin shop visuals, while those colors really pop with that AMOLED tech as well, but again like before. You can opt for more natural hues. If you prefer.

The big upgrades here for the S 20 series is the new 120 Hertz refresh rate, although you'll only be able to enjoy that in full HD resolution mode and there's sadly, no dynamic option to automatically boost the refresh rate when it'll be most helpful, so you'll just have to manually switch it on when needed and switch it off again. If you'd rather preserve battery life and both ES 20 on the S 20 + off fully HD or 10 + certified as well, but sadly there is still no love for a bit Dolby Vision, action, boo, also new, for these fresh Samsung flagships is the 240 Hertz touch response rate, which is great news for gamers. As soon as you touch that screen you'll basically see an instant reaction, which is absolutely essential from fast-paced titles like pub G mobile and fortnight, and that game booster feature is back in action as well to help you manage resources, while gaming record your game, player and stuff like that, and then all pre briefing sessions Samsung's said that'll be easier than ever on the s20 family of phones to switch between your game and whatever apps are running. In the background handy, if you use it a bit of discord to chat with you me it's something like that have another chance to actually test this, unfortunately, but stay tuned for my full review to see what I think of that performance has, of course, been improved compared with last year's model as well. You get a fresh new 7 nanometer outscore Samsung Enos chip sets, at least you do here in the UK, which should provide a speed boost over last year's S 10, and it certainly seems that very silky smooth in my hands-on session.

That's no doubt helped along by the fact that the s20 comes with a bit eight gigabytes of RAM, but you can also pick it up in a 12 that gigabyte flavor, unlike last year's s10 I, meanwhile the s20 plus comes as 12 gigs as standard. Now last year, you needed to upgrade to the mega sized and mega expensive Samsung Galaxy S 10 5g model. If you wanted that 5g connectivity, but all the new s, 20 phones, will come with 5g as an option. Apparently you can expect the specs and the design and everything to remain the same for those 5 g variants. That will just be a little more expensive, because it's got that 5g more damn chip.

Then there that's for the batteries. Well, the standard s 20 packs a four thousand William capacity cell and on the s 20, plus you get 4500 William battery, in both cases a boost over the previous generation Samsung flagships, which offered a three thousand four hundred and four thousand one hundred battery. You get the same fast. Wireless charging, 2.0 tech from Samsung in both of these s20 blowers, so, basically the same as what you got in the s10 working at 15 watts, not particularly impressive, compared with a lot of the competition, but you do at least get 15 watt wireless QI charging as well, and you do of course get that wireless power share as well, which is handy if you've got, for instance, the Samsung Galaxy Buds on the new buds +, which they just launched at the same time as the s20. If you run a low on power on those just shove them on the back of your s20, get that wireless power share on the go, and I'll charge up your buds on the GAR, you get fewer options than the previous generation when it comes to the storage here as well.

It's standard s20 just comes with 128 gigs of storage. That's your only option the s 20 plus you can pick it up 128 gigs, but you can also upgrade to a 512 gigabyte version. If you're going to be shooting a lot of 8k video, because that'll cost you a bit more cash and the good news is they're both at the s 20 and the s.20 plus support micro, SD memory cards up to one terabyte Bananarama, that's for the software side of things. Well, unsurprisingly, it's Samsung's 1u, I, launcher version 2.0. The latest version, of course slathered all over Android 10.

Of course. Right now those are all the S 10 smartphones are getting an over-the-air update to the fresh new Android 10, complete with one UI launched a version 2 as well. So you've got that older model, double, or you'll, basically have the same software experience as the fresh new S 20 funds, and if you wanted all what to expect I've done a full Tips & Tricks guide for one UI launch version 2 as well as go check that out for some of my favorite bits, there's no real change on the security front either. You once again have an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor built into that display here on the s20 and the S 20 plus, and that's come and by the likes of fierce recognition. Now the optics have been a major focus point for Samsung at least new Galaxy S 20 smartphones, as the Korean giant, looks to try and fight back and really compete with rivals such as wowie as far as the camera technology goes.

So both the s 20 and the s 20 plus spot a 12 megapixel primary lens with F 1.8 aperture, no more of that dual aperture tech stuff, and you get built-in optical image stabilization on that lens too. This is backed by a 12 megapixel ultra-wide angle, lens F 2.2, and the biggest real change over the previous generation is a 64 megapixel telephoto camera offer an improved three times. Optical zoom chops me as twenty-plus also adds a fourth depth vision, camera lens to that setup, which is basically a time-of-flight lens, as found on the note 10 plus handy for that live focus, video board, which blows out the background in real time. You can shoot pictures all the way up to that maximum 64 megapixel resolution or ells 12 megapixels by default, and those 64 megapixel pics, certainly look at nice and sharp, even in the tricky line of the demo room. They came out nicely so definitely good if you want to blow up your pics or crop into a particular section without the final four doors, looking a bit grainy and rubbish.

Now, if you swap to the telephoto lens, you can use Samsung's new space zoom feature which gives you up to 30 times: hybrid zoom in total, far more than the previous s10 family ever managed, although things are admittedly rather gritty at that maximum level. You've also now got 8k video capture for superfine, home movies, and the good news is, you can also grab 33 megapixel photos from the video frames when you're viewing them back. That'll prove particularly handy in those tricky moments, or you're, not sure whether to shoot a video or take lots of pics, basically just shoot your whole movie, and then you can go back into that video and take your photos directly out of it great stuff, there's also a new single, take mode onboard the s20 family as well, which uses all of those cameras out, wants to capture a bunch of video clips and photos which are then gathered together. So you can choose your favorite bits to keep and then just bin the rest when you're shooting video there's now a full-on pro mode as well. So you can change the like.

So the aperture and everything before you shoot and then fiddle around with the manual focus and the white balance, while you're actually recording definitely good if you're, on a very specific kind of shot, although it's still not quite as advanced as the cinema pro mode, which you'll find on Sony's, Opera, One and Xperia v. You've also got an improved super, steady mode with even smoother results compared with you, the s10 series. So that should be great when moving a piece, especially given the solid results. From that original version, and last up, there is a new night hyperlapse mode as well for capturing those sexy. Looking clips of car headlights streaking across a cityscape and of course we can't forget the selfie cam and both the galaxy s 20 and the s 20 plus serve up a 10 megapixel selfie shooter, just like last year's Samsung's, although the plus has ditched the depth sensor, so the pin or logic isn't quite as intrusive and though right there as my fault, early, hands-on impressions, the galaxy s 20 and the s 20, plus flagship phones, as you can see quite a lot of differences compared with last year's S 10 series.

But is it enough to warrant a purchase well over to you guys? What do you think? Are you tempted by the new s 20s or is there not really enough new stuff in there B gritter your thoughts? Please do poke, subscribing thing that notifications as well and check out all my other s, 20 content as well, including an in-depth look at that camera tech and a comparison with the mighty ultra model as well. J, Ron love. You.
