Review: ASUS ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad, TwinView Dock 3, and Gaming Clip

Hey, what's up guys will here for GSM arena? Asus produces some impressive high-end smartphones for the gamer crowd, complete with powerful chipsets, advanced cooling systems and RGB lights, but they also offer proprietary accessories for these phones sold separately. Of course, if you want to take your smartphone gaming to the next level, we just got our hands on the twin view dock 3, the lunar 3 game pad and the ROG clip. So, let's see what these are all about. Asus has a rich and unique ecosystem of accessories tailor-made for their flagship gaming phones, the ones we'll cover in this video are for their new rot phone 3. But if you happen to have a ROG phone too, they are compatible with that phone as well. Let's start off with the twin view dock 3, which is not a cheap, peripheral retailing at around 300 bucks.

This clamshell shaped dock adds a secondary display to the ROG phone, turning it into something more like a Nintendo DS. This second display is quite advanced. It's a 6.6 inch OLED panel with a 1080p resolution, and it has a superfast 144hz, refresh rate which matches that of the ROG phone 3's main screen. It's not only a display. There's a built-in active cooling fan and a 3.5 millimeter jack for headphones inside is an additional 5 000 William hour battery for powering it all, and on the back, you have an USB port for charging using the twin view. Dock feels great, it's surprisingly, not that heavy and is quite easy to multitask.

Here each screen gets a separate launcher through which you can open your apps. Everything looks buttery smooth and there are no visual artifacts or problems to speak of. As far as actual gaming goes it's quite nice. The design has gaps which allows you to access. The air triggers on the phone itself and supported games run great according to ASUS.

As of now, there are 23 titles which can give you the full dual screen experience. However, outside those you'd be left playing the game on one screen and using the second for multitasking, which can still be quite useful, but I'm not sure if it's worth paying 300 bucks for this dock. If your favorite game isn't supported- and it is worth noting that if you already happen to have a twin Vue dock 2 from last year, it will work with the ROG phone 3 as well. The major difference is that the screen, refresh rate, is only 120 hertz on that one, and this will limit the main screen to that refresh rate too. The next accessory we'll talk about is the lunar 3 game pad.

It costs around 180 bucks and its design is a bit similar to the joy joy-cons of the Nintendo Switch. The major players here are the left and right controllers. They are well-built and feature dual analog sticks a d-pad and standard four-button cluster on the front you get click and responsive top triggers and below those left and right analog triggers the most obvious way to connect. The controllers are to slide them onto the included lunar 3 bumper, the bumper clicks onto the phone and connects to the USB port. This attachment feels pretty solid and secure.

Another way to connect is via Bluetooth. To achieve this, you'll need to attach the controllers to each other via a middle bit called the lunar 3 chargers. They won't work if they're separated. This allows you to control your ROG phone 3 or other Bluetooth compatible devices remotely like a home console. You can make this setup even more comfortable too, by attaching the plastic add-on called the lunar 3 grip.

Now it really looks like a console controller. Overall, the lunar 3 controllers are a blast to play with they're, responsive and comfy in hand, and they really improve the smartphone gaming experience and if you're, using a ROG phone mapping, controls to them is pretty straightforward and if you use the bumper attachment, the whole setup is quite portable too. For gaming on the go. The lunar game pad is overall, very versatile and well-supported. Unlike the twin view dock 3, which requires specific developer support to really make it shine, you can go a step further by attaching both the twin view dock 3 and the lunar 3 game pad bumper.

At the same time, it is pretty heavy, but if you really want the ultimate ROG setup, the combo could be worth it. The last accessory we have to show you is the 30 ROG clip which will physically attach the ROG phone 3 to a console controller, which you connect via Bluetooth. The spring-loaded holder for the phone attaches to one of three included adapters, one which fits a PS4 dual shock one, which fits an Xbox game pad and one which is compatible with the Google Stadia controller. The holder itself is designed with the ROG phone 3 in mind. For example, the side port on the frame is left clear for connectivity, but the ROG clip will work great with the ROG phone too and will fit most other phones as well gaming with the phone sitting atop.

The controller feels heavy yet still comfortable. Unlike the lunar game pad, with third-party controllers, the ROG phone doesn't give you special capabilities for mapping. On-Screen controls to the buttons, so you'll be limited to games, which already have built-in controller support. Still the ROG clip is conveniently designed to make the best use of mobile gaming with this setup and getting it makes a lot of sense if you already own one of these controllers, so there you have it guys. Asus's accessory ecosystem is something pretty unique in the smartphone world, and if you wanted to get a gaming phone, you could deck out with all the bells and whistles ROG is probably the first place to look.

These accessories offer special features and a premium design, that's specific to the phone, and so it makes sense that they come at a premium price. This stuff is expensive and some might say excessive, but for those hardcore mobile gamers out there looking for the best, these accessories deserve a recommendation. Thanks for watching guys, stay safe and see you on the next one. You.
