Realme 7 Pro review

Hey guys welcome back now. This is the realm 7 pro now. I've already done a first impression, uh an unboxing video, and if you want to check that out I'll put a link to that in the video description below, but let's get straight to our review so very quickly. Let's go through the specs. Now this has a Qualcomm snapdragon 720 g, not the newest. I know you've also got 8 gigabytes of ram 120 gigabytes of storage, but it also comes with a micro SD slot, so yeah you basically can expand it until you're happy now.

This has a 4 500 William battery, and we'll talk about the battery life later, but talking about the screen. So this has a 6.4 inch super AMOLED screen, which is fantastic uh. You have a full HD resolution, so that's about 2400 by 1080p. Now this screen is absolutely fantastic. I love it.

I think it's one of the best screens for any phones at this price range. Now realm basically had two directions to go. They would either go with an LCD screen with a high refresh rate, or they could go with a super AMOLED screen at 60hz, and they decided to go with the super MLS screen and I actually kind of think that's the right choice. I think it's really the priority of the person that wants to buy the phone now, if you're a gamer, and you really care about all this kind of thing so yeah, maybe you might want to go with a high refresh rate, but if you're like me- and you don't really play that many games on your phone you're more about media consumption, you're more about watching videos and taking photos, then yeah. This is definitely a great option.

Now, like I said, watching, videos on this phone is fantastic. I really can't tell the difference much between this and a flagship phone in terms of the screen, because he has a super AMOLED screen watching shows on Netflix. Watching videos on YouTube is absolutely fantastic. Now the realm 7 pro uses android 10, which is great, and the experience is perfect. So if they've got their own skin like most phone manufacturers, they got the Realme UI 1.0, I really like it. Actually, it's not convoluted.

It's not stuffed full of apps that you're not going to use. It is actually quite close to stock android, and I really like them now. One weird thing on the realm 7 pro now the gallery app uh, it's missing some of the most basic features that you would expect on a gallery app on any phone. Now, almost every other gallery or every other gallery app on any other phone has simple features like you know, trying to sort your pictures by name whether it's descending or sending orders same thing like the day that you was taken and things like that this one doesn't it just shows you your photos and the older photos are right at the top and the newer photos are at the bottom. So sometimes you got to keep scrolling down to see your newer photos.

I don't see why they can't add that. So I really hope realm can either add that basic feature to the gallery app, but if they don't, then you'll probably want to have to get like a third party gallery app but yeah other than the gallery app. Everything else is really fine. You don't get a lot of bloatware apps, which I really appreciate. Everything looks really basic, very much like stock android.

So if you're, one of those people who have the Google Pixel phones going on the Robin 7 pro, it's actually quite good. Now. One thing I want to point out, though uh a good friend of mine actually made this excellent point when we were out for dinner- and he said that yeah I mean a lot of phones that I review are perfect out of the box and well yeah. That's true, because I mean they are basically at factory reset. You know, um, there are no extra apps inside there are no like additional updates, and it's true because a lot of phones after you install a lot of updates after you install all the apps after a long period of time.

Sometimes you do get to have some issues where it does slow down, but unfortunately because I actually have to return the phone. I can't like test out the phone for six months or for a year, so I can't vouch for that. But what I can say is right now I have not had any issues. I have installed a few games, a few apps just to test it out uh, and it has been released and the battery life. Like I mentioned it, has a 4 500 million battery.

And what can I say, the battery life is excellent right, so I use the phone. When I went out to take pictures and videos. I went to Marina Bay Sands. I even went to the zoo, and it would last me two full days, even though I'm taking a lot of pictures taking a lot of videos, especially if it does drain your battery. It still lasted me two whole days and when the battery does run out, it has a 65 watt uh what they call super dart charging, which is really, really fast.

Like I charge the phone, it went up to 50 in like less than 15 minutes and like too full in less than 40, which is amazing all right. So talking about the camera, it has a quad camera setup at the back and, of course, the selfie camera at the front. So at the back it has a 64 megapixel, main camera uh, an 8 megapixel ultrawide, a 2 megapixel macro lens and a 2 megapixel dev sensor and at the front it has a 32 megapixel selfie camera, and I really like the fact that the selfie camera is on the left and not right in the center. So when you watch shows and all that you kind of forget that it's there now when it comes to daylight shots, I think almost every phone has sort of got like a perfect standard. Nowadays, when it comes to day shots a lot of them are perfect.

It's hard to tell them apart. Unless you really nitpick and zoom into all the pictures, then you start to see uh the difference, but I mean taking day shots on. This is fantastic, whether it's on the main camera or it's on the ultrawide really, really good. The macro lens. I would say it's more of a novelty than anything else.

I don't think you would really use it. Furthermore, I mean I obviously use it to test it out, but honestly, taking a picture with the micro lens and taking a picture with the main lens and zooming in. Furthermore, I could hardly tell difference now. One thing I will say, though, about the portrait mode on this phone uh, the both looks a bit weird, like you know if you're not familiar with both, basically using the portrait mode, makes your uh background blurry, giving you like a better depth of field. Now the thing is like most phones, yeah, you get the kind of blur this one.

The blur looks a bit dreamy for some reason, almost like a 90s soap opera, it's kind of weird, so I'm not quite sure why but yeah it doesn't look very natural, so yeah day shots perfect. Most phones are pretty good. The night shots, I would have to say I actually quite like it um a lot of shots are really nice. I took some shots at the Marina Bay Sands, like I did with Samsung s3 Fe uh really enjoyed quite a few of the shots um. The funny thing is, though, it has a night mode like most phones uh, but in certain situations I actually thought like taking a night shot in the normal mode kind of look better than in the night mode, because in the night mode you start to get a bit too much like, and you get a bit of a flare in certain areas, uh which looked a bit unnatural.

So I don't know, maybe in like really dark areas, then they might make a difference, but in like in a night area where you still have quite a bit of lights like lampposts or building likes. Actually, the normal shot is just fine. But of course you got the same issue here with night shots in the daytime, like the main camera and the ultra-wide. They are kind of uniform. I think in terms of color accuracy, they're pretty good uh, they both kind of look the same which, by the way I like the like the fact that the shots are very natural.

You don't get a lot of saturated reds, a lot of saturated greens that you do on some other phones, so that I can really appreciate, but going back to night mode, same problem like in the 64 megapixel main lens. It still looks pretty good, but you lose a lot of light. You lose a lot of detail. You lose a lot of uh, you know sharpness when you move to the ultra white lens. Now the selfie camera, like I said, is a 32 megapixel, selfie camera um.

It surprised me it was really sharp. I do find that the colors are a bit too faded either it's too faded or is a bit too much on the blue hue um, but it's really sharp. It didn't have that beautify effect on her face too much, but yeah. A good surprise. Now, like I said earlier, if you really want to see a difference, and you want to compare to flagship phones, you have to really zoom in to see a difference in nightmare shots yeah.

You can definitely see a difference, and you're never going to get flagship level pictures in terms of technical quality and that's fine. It's unfair to expect that, but what I've really enjoyed about this phone and what I really appreciate about Realme in terms of the direction and the priorities of the phone is to take more fun photos than like really technically good photos. Now what I mean by that so like very similar to the Oppo Renault 4 pro that I reviewed some time back. It is full of different filters and effects that are not just fun but also really polished, and when you take photos, you know it has this sort of like a different color uh, almost like changing the human photo. It looked perfect.

Furthermore, it really impressed me- and I really think that's the right direction- to go for cameras on this sort of phones at this price range, because you can't expect it to be like perfect quality, super sharp and all that it is definitely good enough. But you sort of prioritize taking fun photos, good effects, good colors, good filters. I definitely think that's the right choice, but there's a catch. Now when I reviewed the Oppo Renault 4 pro, it had something called an AI color portrait mode, which was really cool, and there were a lot of really fun ways to use it. So how it works is it makes your background black and white, but any persons in the shot will be in color and that's really nice, but here's where it gets a little weird now and on the realm 7 pro this AI color portrait mode only works in video like I was looking everywhere for it on the photo mode and I couldn't find it, which I think is really weird, because that particular AI color portrait mode, I think, works better in photos anyway.

So to have it in video is kind of cool, but I really think for that effect. It works better on photos. So real me: if you're watching this, please add it to your photos as well. I don't see why you can't alright. So let's talk about the price, so the Oppo Renault 4 pro comes in at about 499 Singapore dollars and, in my opinion, that's actually pretty good value.

I mean the phone that I sometimes reviewed, and I talked about earlier. The Oppo Renault 4 pro very similar in terms of specs, also had the same chipset. It had a similar camera. It also has a lot of really nice filters, although it does have a few more features. Uh the screen, although this one has a super AMOLED screen that one had an LCD screen with a high refresh rate but other than that really, really similar, and that one is like what 7.99, if I'm not mistaken, so it's a lot more expensive. So the fact that you're getting something very similar for about 499 makes this perfect value, and I love the fact that we are at an age now, where buying a budget phone or buying a mid-range phone doesn't mean that you don't get a smooth experience on android I mean in terms of using it for normal everyday use like using simple apps messaging apps browsing making phone calls.

You really cannot tell the difference between something that costs like 4.99 to something that cost maybe three times the price. There's really no difference. I mean you get a really smooth experience on android 10 on this phone. You get excellent battery life. You know for most people, you're going to get two days of use.

Uh you get a really nice screen, no issues with the screen at all and yeah you're, paying 499 Singapore dollars. Now, in fact, I like this phone so much that I'm going to give it a four out of 5 stars and a technobabble recommended logo, and the only reason why I'm not giving it a 5 out of 5 stars number one is that the both looks a bit weird and the other thing is added: AI color portrait mode to photos, not just your videos, alright, so that about wraps up my review of the room 7 pro.
