Photographer Andrew Studer Shooting with the New iPhone 11 Pro Camera

Hey guys, my name is Andrew Outer I'm, a commercial outdoor photographer and videographer. Today, we're in Oregon, and I'm swapping out my DSLR for the new iPhone 11 Pro, we're going to cruise around, get some shots and see what we can come up with when it came to photography. Alpha brought us two main new features with the iPhone 11 Pro, the ultra-wide lens and his night mode right off. The bat I found the new ultra-wide lens to be quite useful. I also enjoyed using the telephoto lens to capture some smaller details around while I wish Apple included a macro lens I was still able to make it work with the telephone. Don't get me wrong.

I still had to be further away from my subject compared to what I could have done with the macro. After shooting a few photos, I took a quick break to capture a little slow-motion video of the water. I said it to the slowest he could go to 40 frames at 1080p. It looked great on my phone, but upon reviewing it closer on the computer. I felt like it lacked the quality I'd be comfortable with for most situations.

We also squeezed in some time to take a couple quick portraits, but I did most of the portraiture the next day on the trust s began to get dark. We wrapped up at the Falls and headed back into Portland without the highest expectations, I tested out the new night mode. Alright, so I got my buddy Blake in the back right now to my hi. You know he just looks like a silhouette, but we're going to throw this at night mode and to see how much you can bring out all the detail in the shadows is really impressive. The photos pretty sharp, even though it's handheld, the more I played around with the new feature.

The more I became impressed with what it was capable of the next day we headed out to the coast to do more tests with the new ultra wide-angle lens and portrait modes. Blake brought his ROG Kyra, so we spent most of the day photographing her because, let's be honest scene photos of a cute husky is far more enjoyable than seeing photos of our faces after photographing. More and more with the ultra-wide lens I realized that it's slightly softer and less sharp compared to the normal ones, especially in the corners I, feel like for most people. This won't matter too much, but as photographer, it was something that's today. I'll have to admit that in my own photography, I've, typically shied away from using a wide-angle lens, but overall I'm, a big fan of the new ultra water I feel like it has an interesting way of making a subject.

Just a little more fun and dynamic I, probably looked pretty obnoxious using it too. Well, it's technically not a new feature. I thought I'd touch a little on the telephoto lens I, just upgraded from the Desert. So this was my first time using the telephoto. To be honest, I was a little disappointed by the lack of zoom, but it's better than nothing, and it allows for some compression.

Basically, this means you'll be able to enhance the size of a background element with the foreground. Subject in your frame, making you an image slightly more dynamic, the iPhone 11 Pro comes with two new portrait mode options, a wide-angle view and telephoto view being able to take portraiture with the wide-angle using depth. Information from the ultra-wide is new, unlike the iPhone 10 our last year, which took portrait mode photos with the wide-angle but used entirely digital processing. Again, the telephoto option allows for compression and I found myself using portrait mode with the telephoto when I wanted to have a prominent background element honestly capturing random moments that stand out to me in my everyday life is one of the most effective ways that I stay inspired and exercise. My creativity now I know I didn't walk away with the most creative or quality content of all time, but I had a ton of fun over the past two days, just going out messing around and seeing what I could come up with on the new phone would I ever trade, my DSLR to the iPhone on a commercial shoot.

Probably not do I feel like the iPhone is starting to hold up at least a little to a DSLR, maybe a little, but I still feel like the lack of sharpness and quality in the iPhone will keep you shooting on the DSLR for the things and moments that matter. Most of me. That being said, I'm still really impressed with the iPhones new capabilities and features. I think that night mode is a complete game changer and that, although the wide-angle lens isn't quite as sharp as the One X I think that it can add a lot to a photo, but I'll probably just stick to the One X. Unless the scene really calls for that, ultra wide-angle as a photographer I'm constantly trying to keep the creative parts of my brain gist and actively engaged and exercised, and I feel like using the iPhone in my daily life is a great way for me to go about that.

Big thanks to my friends, Ryan Blake in Uriah for helping me put this video together. If you're also curious about checking out some of my photography, I'll put links to that as well as their Instagram Shh down in the description below hey, thanks. So much for watching hope.
