Oppo Watch vs Apple Watch: Is the copycat worth buying?

The Oppo watch is probably the most exciting android wear watch in years, thanks to its classy design, nice fitness features and so on, but the device clearly gets its design inspiration from another well-known smartwatch, the Apple Watch down to the packaging. The Oppo watch is essentially an Apple Watch clone for android users, but how does the Oppo watch actually compare to the Apple Watch? Is it a solid alternative to what most considered to be the best smartwatch out there? I put the two head to find out for this comparison, I'll mostly be using the Oppo watch and the Apple Watch Series 4, but I will mention the new features available in more recent Apple Watch models. If you like this video, please hit the like button and subscribe to the channel. It really helps support my work and I would appreciate that support. Perhaps the most immediately obvious similarity between these two devices is their design. They both have a rectangular design with a metallic body and full glass display.

The Apple Watch looks like it may have curved display edges, but it's just the glass on the top of the device. In reality, it has a flat display. The Oppo watch, on the other hand, actually has a curved display, and while some may love or hate that on a phone, it looks quite nice on a watch. That said, I do prefer the uniform edges around the Apple Watch. Recent models of the Apple Watch are available in two sizes, 40 millimeters and 44 millimeters.

The Oppo watch is also available in two models: 41 millimeter and 46 millimeters. I have the 44 millimeter Apple Watch and the 46 millimeter Oppo watch and the Oppo watch is certainly bigger than the Apple device, so much so that, while the Apple Watch looks and feels fine on the wrist, the Oppo watch felt a little big for my liking. The back of the two devices is similar too you'll get a heart rate monitor on both and on the back of the Oppo watch. You'll get four pins for charging. The Apple Watch charges through a propriety apple charging standard, but thankfully doesn't require the alignment of pins.

Even the watch bands can be replaced in the same way as the Apple Watch on the back of both devices. You'll get a button to remove the bands. However, while the Apple Watch bands slide out, the Oppo watch. Bands are simply pulled off, of course, there's another major difference in design between these two devices. While the Apple Watch has a button and a rotating crown, the Oppo watch only has two buttons, that's kind of a big deal.

The digital crown is an important aspect of controlling the Apple Watch, and it helps make control feel a lot more natural. You will get used to the overall feel of the Oppo watch, but it does feel like a missed opportunity for Xperia to not include a crown here. The display on both of these two devices is an OLED display and they both look great. The Oppo watch does have a slightly higher resolution, but you'll hardly notice and either way both devices look good in day-to-day use. Plus, you probably won't be using your watch for things like watching videos anyway.

Both the Apple Watch and the Oppo watch are water resistant to up to 5 ATM, which basically means that you can use them to track swimming just as easily as you can use them to track running. It's still worth being careful if you go scuba diving, but they'll survive perfectly fine in almost any other situation under the hood, there are some other major differences. The Oppo watch has either a snapdragon 2500 or a snapdragon 3100 processors, depending on the model you get and either way. These are slightly dated chipsets. The current generation Apple Watch offers apple's s5 chipset, which is powerful fast and can easily handle all basic functions of the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch also has 32 gigabytes of storage, which is double that on the Oppo watch. The battery life is perhaps another point of difference between these two devices Oppo claims the Oppo watch can last up to 40 hours on a charge which isn't bad, but if you do things like fitness tracking and sleep tracking, you're unlikely to actually hit 40 hours. The Apple Watch, on the other hand, will last an even worse 18 hours, either way. It's worth getting used to charging the device at night or right before bed. If you want a sleep track to avoid frustration, perhaps the biggest difference between these two watches is the software that runs on them.

The Apple Watch runs apple's watch OS, which gets regular updates and adds new features and is extremely easy to use and well-designed. The Oppo watch, on the other hand, runs a tweaked version of Google's Wear OS for the international model and color OS, which is based on android 8.1 in China. It's actually a great attempt at improving, Wear OS. It will take a little getting used to all the swipes and what they'll do, but you will get used to it over time. Generally, the software on the Oppo watch was pretty responsive and fast to react.

The device woke up quickly, although not as fast as the Apple Watch and while it did stutter and skip every now, and then it was rarely very intrusive. The interface in general is organized into tiles, which can be customized through the wear, OS app or straight from the watch itself, and can show different information depending on what you're looking for, or you can just swipe to see your apps and navigate to an actual app to use on the left of the main screen. You'll get Google Assistant, which generally felt like the slowest aspect of the device's software. You will, thankfully, get haptic feedback to tell you when assistant is listening and when it has stopped listening, but it just doesn't react as fast as Siri on the Apple Watch. Both operating systems are pretty customizable and both allow you to add complications to the watch faces generally.

However, watch OS on the Apple Watch feels a little easier to use. However, you probably get used to the Wear OS on the Oppo watch, and you may get more customization from the software too. The Oppo watch and Apple Watch both clearly have a lot to offer, but there's one more major difference between the two, the price. While the Apple Watch Series 5 starts at 399 dollars. The Oppo watch comes at around 200.

Unfortunately, the Oppo watch is not available in the US, so you'll need to get it in Europe or china. If you want it for yourself, the Apple Watch is a better device than the Oppo watch, but that mostly comes down to the faster processing and better integration with other apple products, but if you're, an android user, the Oppo watch is a great option. It's well-designed and works great plus the software is among the best implementation of Wear OS I've seen. Yet, if you don't want to pay the cash for the Apple Watch, you could get the Oppo watch, or you could go for an Apple Watch Series 3 instead, which offers a slightly older design and a few less features you can buy all of these devices using the links in the description.
