OPPO A54 Review

What's up guys well here, fugue tech, and when we hear of opp, we usually think of smartphones that are more focused on the camera department. But now the company seems to take a different route and that is making their smartphones accessible to everyone. Recently Oppo released another mid-range smartphone, which is of course the Oppo a54. Now from the get-go, it looks chic and offers a large 6.51 inches display, together with a triple camera setup, we got a chance to put this device to the test. So, let's see if this can be your next daily driver, beginning with the design, the Oppo a54 looks familiar to other current opp, a series smartphones like the a94 and a74. It also does feel premium, even though it is mostly made out of polycarbonate material now located at the back.

Are the triple camera setup led, flash and Oppo branding? The back has a glossy texture yeah, it's basically glass, stick which shows light streak depending on the angle of the lighting, like other smartphones, with glossy coating. This is also prone to fingerprint smudges, so better use the free jelly case included in the box. It is slightly hefty at grams, which we are assuming is due to its large 5000 ml hour battery capacity. The unit we have is in the crystal black colorway, but it is also available in starry blue. If you are interested flipping to its front, it's got a hole punch on the upper left for the selfie camera, while, on the top part, is the earpiece.

The bezels are thin, but have a slightly thicker part at the bottom for buttons and ports, starting on its left side, we have the volume rockers, along with its dual NATO side, sim card tray with a dedicated micro SD card slot, while on the right is the power, slash, lock, button, which also doubles as your fingerprint scanner, while at the bottom are its loudspeaker, USB type-c port called microphone and the 3.5 millimeter audio jack. Now, when it comes to the display, the Oppo a54 boasts a 6.51 inches IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1600x720p. Moreover, it's got an 82.6 screen to battery ratio, giving you an immersive viewing experience when watching contents on Netflix, YouTube or anything alike, even though it only has an LCD panel. Surprisingly, it produces punchy, colors and decent viewing angles. However, since we got a 720p display, don't expect too much to have a sharp picture quality, especially when you're reading text, but overall the display is decent and will suffice.

Your daily needs when it comes to the audio its downward firing speaker can fill up the room at maximum volume, but just like any other smartphone in this tier, it gets tinny and muddy. So it wouldn't really recommend setting the volume to max a lot, but thankfully there's a 3.5 millimeter audio jack port. To give you a more immersive listening experience now powering the Oppo a54 is a hello p35 chipset, which is paired with a power VR GE, 8320 GPU, up to six gigs of ram and 128 gigs of internal storage. Then we have pac-6 gigs of ram and 128 gigs of internal storage variant, resulting in a smooth performance for most casual tasks. Playing graphically intensive games is also doable, but you'll most likely use the lowest available settings to lessen sluggish gameplay.

There are some slight stutters at times when leaving numerous apps running. In the background, it also does feel a little hot to the touch when used for long periods of time, but it isn't to an alarming level. Overall, the hello p35 chipset performs pretty well in most case scenarios, but there are instances where it trickles down its performance to prevent the device from overheating. If you are interested in numbers here are the benchmark scores that we got when it comes to biometrics and security, you can choose between facial recognition or design mounted fingerprint scanner both works as intended, but we highly recommend you using the fingerprint scanner instead for a higher level of security. Running on the Oppo a54 is caller OS 7.2 based on android 10. It's not the latest android version, but we expect it to have the android 11 version pretty soon.

Overall, the UI looks clean and straightforward to use, there's noticeably a lot of bloatware on the UI that you might find helpful or annoying what's good about it is that there are tons of customization options if you want to get fancy from changing the icon's shape, to choosing a theme to change the overall look of your home screen. There's also a dedicated dart mode that can be toggled through its settings. Aside from the usual google services, apps pre-installed, they are also third-party apps, like Facebook, tick, took, Twitter, messenger, Lazada and Agora storage wise. There are 128 gigs that we have out of the box, but if that isn't enough, you can opt to expand it via the micro SD card up to 256 gigs juicing up the Oppo a54 is a 5000mah battery with support for even what fast charging, which is ample enough to last you a full day of usage in the PC, marker 3.0 battery test. We yielded a score of 12 hours and 38 minutes for this phone.

Meanwhile, we got 15 hours in our standard video loop test. Both results are respectable, given its capacity. If you are a light user, it can even last you up to one and a half days of usage when it comes to charging the Oppo a54 sports, an 18 watt fast charging, which takes more than an hour to reach 100 percent. Now for the cameras, the Oppo h54 comes equipped with a 13 megapixel main camera 2 megapixel macro any 2 megapixel depth sensor flipping to its front. We have a higher 16 megapixel selfie shooter quality wise photos, look decent with enough details.

Colors are often accurate and HDR is also present, there's also a macro camera, but as expected, it produces low quality images. We do have portrait mode. However, the subject background separation is not as good as we wanted it to be, but it is enough for casual use. Photos taken under low light conditions can be muddy even with a night mode turned on. Details are crushed and are not usable in any case.

On the other hand, selfies are good. The colors and skin tones are somewhat accurate, just don't take selfies under bad lighting conditions, because it tends to produce noisy images and somewhat. It requires a steady hand to get a decent photo, or else it gets blurry. When it comes to videos, the Oppo a54 can take up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, just like most smartphones in this tier. It produces shaky videos since there's no image.

Stabilization present, but overall it is usable for casual social media postings. Now for pricing. The Oppo a54, with 4 gigs of ram plus 128 gigs of internal storage, will set you back 9 499 pesos and 999 pesos for the six gigs of ram plus 128 gigs of internal storage variant. There are tons of compromises to keep the Oppo a54 surprise affordable to the masses, such as the lack of having a 1080p display a slowly lower camera resolution and not having 5g connectivity. It's not us being too nitpick about it, because some smartphones in the market offer what the Oppo a54 lacks, but has the same price point.

But then, if you are an Oppo fan, or maybe you're just in the market for a decent and affordable smartphone- and you don't mind its shortcomings, then the Oppo a54 will be a decent choice for you.
