OnePlus 9 Vs OnePlus 8t! (Comparison) (Review)

Welcome back everyone, let's go ahead and do a quick little comparison. This is not gonna, be quick. It's probably like 30 minutes between the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 8t. Now, sadly, the OnePlus 8t was one of those devices that really just came and went, which is very sad because it was a very good device. The sad thing was that they released it right around the iPhone 12 release date, so it really got overshadowed by it. So I don't even think a lot of people remember the OnePlus 8t to be honest, but regardless the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 8t, you can still pick them up from Amazon, so I will leave both of these linked down below, so you can get them from there and help support the channel.

At the same time, now, looking on the front, there's actually a ton of similarities between these, so they both have 6.55 inch. Fluid AMOLED displays on the front, and they're both 120 hertz. Are you going to notice that big of a difference going from an 80 to a 1 plus 9, absolutely not they're, probably going to be roughly around the same from what I've seen from what I've tested the OnePlus 9's display? I like it's a flat display the OnePlus 8t. I think it had a flat display too, like both these phones are very good, like one doesn't necessarily feel more premium than the other one. Furthermore, I do remember the OnePlus 8t kind of being a little rounder around the edges, which was cool, but it's still a very big phone for some reason it just felt bigger than my OnePlus 8.

Furthermore, I don't know why, but they're almost exactly the same size. So definitely when it comes down to the front of both these phones, they are very, very similar. One isn't necessarily better than the other one. Both have USB type c ports on the bottom, no headphone jacks! No, nothing like that. A big difference, though- and this is a pretty big difference- the OnePlus 8t had no IP certification, but the OnePlus 9.

Apparently, the T-Mobile version actually has IP certification, which I find weird. Why didn't they just throw it on all the models, but again, what are we going to do about it, but on the back we have a frosted glass back on the OnePlus 8t on the OnePlus 9? We had that standard glass back even on the OnePlus 8. We had a frosted glass back and those bags feel so premium. Those are my favorite types of bags on devices, and it's always sad to see a manufacturer. Give us something and take it away, and this was another case in point of that, in my opinion, now they both have obviously their designated cameras on the back and the OnePlus 8t, obviously kind of had like a quadruple camera setup and I think they kind of had to merge the 80 and the 80 pro into one device they couldn't.

I don't know why they didn't release two different devices. Typically, every single year, at the end of it, they do release two different devices, but this device did have that quadruple. Camera set up, but just because it has more cameras doesn't mean it's better. The OnePlus 9 has that triple camera setup which I'll get into in a second but pretty much when you're feeling both these phones in the hand they're going to feel roughly around the same size, one isn't going to be like the way better feeling one than the other one, but I do like the OnePlus 8t. I do think that feels a little better, but the OnePlus 9 is still a very good feeling phone and I think that pretty much covers up the outside now hating.

On the cameras, as I mentioned just like two seconds ago, the OnePlus 8t has a quadruple camera setup, 48 megapixels, wide 16, megapixel ultra-wide 5, megapixel macro. Then a 2 megapixel depth lens with an OnePlus 9 has a 48 megapixel wide 15, megapixel ultrawide. Then a 2 megapixel depth lens. Now, when it comes down to the raw functionality between both they are almost exactly the same. I really don't think one is way better than the other one, but the OnePlus 9 does have some better.

You know I guess improvements. They teamed up with Hasselblad, which I guess is a company that makes cameras or something, and apparently they spend a lot of money on it. But, to be honest, I feel like the OnePlus 9 and the 9 pro still those cameras don't tap out as compared to like something like a galaxy s21. The s21 camera is like so crazy to me how they can't even match that one, even with the s20 I feel like the s20s camera, was better than the OnePlus 9 or 9 pro, but between these two definitely the OnePlus 9 is the better camera here you're, getting not only, I guess, more functional lenses because you do get you know, I guess clear. Ultra-wide and wide angle, lenses with higher megapixel counts, but the main thing is that you can actually go from 4k at 60, which you are tapped out it on the OnePlus 8t all the way up to 8k video on the OnePlus 9.

I think that is a huge improvement. iPhones can't even do that. Yet no pixels can do that. We pretty much only have that on the galaxy phones and I think Xiaomi phones as well, but this one is a very good improvement that we have there. Is it worth upgrading from an OnePlus 8t to an OnePlus 9 just because of that? Probably not, but that is a very good improvement that we have here.

So I think that ended up itself is one thing that I would definitely go from one device to the other because of the 8k capability. However, on the front, this is kind of a sad thing. We only have 16 megapixel sensors on both that can only do 1080p at 30, and I think that's another area where OnePlus really needs to focus on pretty much every single OnePlus device. You know we have not gotten an increase on the front from 1080p, it's always been 1080p at 30, which is very annoying. I was hoping it would go up.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. We are still tapped out of that. There's nothing we can do about it. We just have to wait until they create one with 4k, but it is what it is. When you look at the iPhone even like 10s, we could do 1080p at 60.

This one's still only 1080p at 30. , so take it as you will, but that pretty much covers up the camera setup. The OnePlus 9 is definitely better now moving on to probably one of the bigger aspects between these two phones, you know the software and obviously the battery life. First, the software is going to be roughly around the same they're, both stock and, as I mentioned before, this is one of my favorite things about one phone to the other OnePlus with their oxygen. Os is just one of the most beautiful versions of OS out there.

I think it's better than stock android. I think it's one of the best versions of android out there. Furthermore, I think it has the most amount of features, and it's like stock android with like custom round capabilities, which is always awesome to see. Now, if you're talking about longevity, this is going to be the bigger difference between both phones. The OnePlus 8t is still going to be lasting for quite a bit of time, but obviously the OnePlus 9 is going to be the longer lasting phone here.

So keep that in mind other than that they're both going to be getting pretty much the same amount of like software updates and all that stuff. So even there you're not going to see that big of a difference either. So keep that in mind I mean take it as you will, but that covers up the software standpoint, but there is a little of a difference with the battery life. So, first of all the same 4 500 million power batteries within them, which I think is awesome. You know I'm really happy to see the house signs the batteries on these types of devices.

But the bigger thing to keep in mind is that the OnePlus 9 does have a wireless charging from what I know. There is no reverse wireless charging on that model, but you do have wireless charging on that device. So I think again, that's another, pretty cool thing that you have there so take it as you will, but you're going to be getting probably longer software supported phone on the OnePlus 9, as well as wireless charging, which could mean you know better battery life and all that stuff who knows like with the software improvements and stuff. But in terms of that that covers up that area now ending it off with the performance. The OnePlus 8t does have that Qualcomm snapdragon 865 chipsets inside it, with eight gigs of ram on the base model and then 12 gigs of ram on the top tier model, where the OnePlus 9 has that Qualcomm snapdragon 888 chipsets with two different models: again: eight gigs of ram on the base model and then 12 gigs of ram on that top tier model, and definitely when it comes down to the performance.

I've said this for so long now. The OnePlus 8t is a very good performing phone. This is still one of the best performing phones out there I mean going from an 865 to an 888. There really wasn't that big of a difference, if I'm being honest there probably was a little, but to be honest, day-to-day tasks you're not going to notice that big of a difference. The 80 was very similar and performance wise to an OnePlus 8.

So I definitely wouldn't go from an 8 to an 80 because of the performance, but definitely when it comes down to it. The OnePlus 8t is still a very good smooth, fast performing phone for sure, but when it comes down to the OnePlus 9's performance, this is a very good performing phone, and it's probably better than the OnePlus 9. If you're looking at one phone over the other you're not going to notice that big of a difference, if I'm being honest, they both are going to be roughly around the same they're going to be pretty much. You know day-to-day tasks going to be awesome. So I've said this for a while and when you get to this level when you're, comparing like a 9 and an 80 or a 70 versus an 8 you're, getting pretty similar performance.

If I'm being honest, it's not until when you compare like a one plus six to a one plus nine, or you look at like a one plus, you know or like iPhone 10 versus an iPhone 12. That's when you see those bigger differences other than that both these phones have very similar performance, and, as I mentioned before, I would not go from an OnePlus 8t to an OnePlus 9 because of the performance there are other things to upgrade to. I would not upgrade because of the performance for sure. So in terms of that that covers up the performance segment now to kind of sum up this video and to answer the question: should you go and buy an OnePlus 8t? Should you upgrade your 80 to the nine like this? Is what I'll tell you? If you have all the money in the world definitely get the one plus nine. That is the easiest way to put it if it's a definitely better phone you're getting IP certification, probably a little of a better display, probably not you're, getting wireless charging better cameras on the back, pretty much the same cameras on the front, a longer lasting phone and a faster phone.

But if the OnePlus 9 was a 10 out of 10, the OnePlus 8t is like a 9.5 out of 10. This is so similar to that device, and it doesn't really make much sense to go from an 80 to a 9. I would probably wait for until, like the 90 comes out, but I would not even upgrade my ATA. I would rather wait until like the OnePlus 11 comes out or something and then upgrade to that one, because 80 is only very good device. You have a beautiful display on the front still at 120 hertz.

The displays are pretty much the same on these. To be honest, the software versions are going to be roughly around the same, but the 9 is probably going to be getting an extra year of software support when it comes down to it. You're, getting almost the same performance as the 9 is better, but the 8t has the same amount of ram variance on it too. So there's not even that big of a difference there. The battery sizes, are identically, the same size battery the main improvement that you're getting with the 9 is that you're getting wireless charging, so that may be a big enough reason for you to go ahead and upgrade to it.

For me, it's like 50 50. You know I'd rather have wireless charging, but if I got to save a bit of money, then maybe the ET would be the better way to go you're technically getting more cameras on the 80, which doesn't really mean much, because the cameras on the OnePlus 9 are definitely better. So that's another pretty big thing to keep in mind, and I think if you're somebody who looks at the OnePlus 8t, and you're like oh, I wish this thing had a wireless charging or IP certification, or maybe like better cameras that maybe the OnePlus 9 would be the better way to go. I would still recommend waiting out until, like the 90 comes out. I think those devices are going to be killer.

Furthermore, I don't know why the OnePlus still doesn't want to improve their front cameras. Furthermore, I think that is one area that OnePlus really needs to kind of come home to. That is one of the most important things they can do to actually improve their whole entire phone life cycle. To be honest, but I think if you have the OnePlus 8t keep it. If you have the money, then go for the OnePlus 9, but I'll probably recommend waiting until like an OnePlus 10 comes out or something like that to be honest, so that pretty much covers it up there.
