OnePlus 9 Pro Real World Camera Test and Unboxing

I know this is going to seem a little uncharacteristic of a video from JV tech t uh, but yeah. I didn't really make any tea for the beginning of this video I probably will for later uh, because I'm actually doing this real world camera test a little early. Furthermore, I still have time to make some tea get a nice shot of the tea using this phone. Hey, it's Joshua verger! What's going on everybody, we are here on the OnePlus 9 pro. Yes, the highly anticipated phone with the partnership with Hasselblad. Yes, we're going to go through the camera in this real world camera test.

I'm also going to do the unboxing, though so let me get through this intro, and then we'll do the unboxing. Before I give you all before, I give you all of my shots and videos from the la zoo. I did schedule some time for it today and this is the phone I'm bringing. It seems to be becoming a bit of a trend with recent devices that I give you a bit of a tease of the camera test and then rewind the clock so that I can give you the unboxing of the device. But you know what that's something we definitely have to do with this here.

OnePlus 9 pro, because, as per usual OnePlus provided a big package in order to give a nice experience of the unboxing. So let's go ahead and do that. The media kit is, of course, an experience in and of itself, and once we get past the lid, the bottom portion actually splays out, and it is supposed to be like a poster. It is a poster of the moon landing which, of course, was shot on a Hasselblad camera, and one quick note I'll give you my thoughts on the OnePlus 9 in future content. It's just kind of hard for me to juggle all the devices that have been coming out recently, much less the fact that OnePlus provided both of the devices this time around for more unboxing of the latest devices and, of course, real world camera tests, make sure you hit that like button.

So I know you like this content and then subscribe to my channel. If you haven't already one of the big things about this device, is that it's going to come with the accessories in the box that include the fast warp charging, but, as you can see, from some designations on the back of the device warp charging is not just wired. It is also warp fast, wireless charging as well the materials past. The smartphone includes the welcome letter, which usually comes with OnePlus devices as well as, of course, their branding in stickers that you can use to show your brand loyalty and then, of course, we make it to the actual accessories, which include a warp charging power, brick and the charging cable. There's a little more in the media box itself, including a couple of cases, one for the OnePlus 9 pro and one for the OnePlus 9, but the best accessory that came with my review units is definitely the warp wireless charging dock.

What's great about this particular charging dock, and I will feature it prominently in my upcoming OnePlus coverage- is that you can actually put the phone in horizontal mode in landscape mode as well, so that if you do have this charging dock, let's say on your desk or something like that, and you want to get some fast charging done on the phone. You can still enjoy things like media on YouTube and whatnot and as a quality of life improvement on this wireless charger. The cable is no longer integrated into the base. Now you can actually disconnect it and use one plus cables and bricks with it, so the OnePlus 9 pro is finally out of its box, as I've shown you already, and the first thing that I get really excited about is when you have a phone that is so powerful, but it's still pretty svelte. This is a pretty thin device and, with this backing that actually shines really well uh, we have a good-looking phone.

The one thing that I will say, however, is that it seems as if OnePlus did not go too far into actually changing the conventions of how their phones are designed. We've seen a few other phones so far this year, try to put a spin on the camera hump, but this time around, it's less about how the camera hump is designed and more about whom they designed it. With that Hasselblad logo prominently displayed beneath two large sensors and above two smaller backup, sensors, you get curves on the front and the back, but the curve on the front has been minimized a little to ensure that you don't have any wayward touches with your palm or with your thumb or anything like that, and then around the frame. You still get some main tropes with OnePlus flagship devices, first, no headphone jack, but that's something that we're used to by now, and you still get the alert slider over here on the side, which has actually come in handy recently, uh, because I've had to toggle it to silence. As notifications were, waking me up in the middle of the night.

Overall, I'm a fan of the design of the OnePlus 9 pro, I wouldn't say it's the unique design, but as far as OnePlus is concerned, this is still exactly what I expect from them, which is to say it is of high quality, and it's a good looker. Let's go ahead and get through some top level specifications before we get back to the camera test. Now this is the latest and greatest from OnePlus. So, of course it has the latest and greatest from Qualcomm. The snapdragon 888 is backed by either 8 or 12, gigabytes of ram and 128 or 256 gigabytes of onboard storage, and again I'm impressed that how this phone is not very bulky, but that screen is still 6.7 inches in size. Those curves do help to keep it pretty slim now it is a quad HD plus panel, but it also comes with 120hz refresh rate.

This is an AMOLED display, which is to say the colors are very vibrant. I've already been enjoying a lot on this device and the contrast ratio allows for very deep blacks when it's an AMOLED display. It also affords you some practicality and some usefulness in the always on display. This is kind of new for oxygen, OS, but already oxygen. Os is providing a lot of options so that you can customize your AOD and to round things out for now.

There is a 4 500 William hour battery in here that can be charged up with warp charge, 65 t or with the wireless charger that I showed you earlier at warp charge, 50 watts personally, I'm a big fan of superfast charging and when it comes to the OnePlus 9 pro in my testing so far in very heavy usage. Well, let's just say it definitely comes in handy you'll, see more about that. A little later now we'll talk about the cameras and, as I'm, giving you the specs, let's go ahead and transition back into the actual camera test. I gave you some examples from the front-facing camera and that is a 16-megapixel shooter. It shoots at 1080p max resolution, which is a bit of a bummer.

It would be great to see. Front-Facing cameras have a little more power, definitely higher resolution in the video shots. While I am disappointed that the front-facing camera can't shoot higher than 1080p resolution, I do think that this is a call to actually use the rear cameras more often, especially when the ultra-wide is so useful. It's a nice day out a little later in the afternoon, so the sun will be nice and bright. It's basic! Furthermore, it's not really high noon, but we're going to get some really bright shots today.

So here I am on the wide angle camera on the rear of the OnePlus 9 pro it's the only one I brought with me by the way I did. I will do something else with the OnePlus 9 a little later, but now the rear cameras have a lot to offer. The main camera is a 48 megapixel, Sony, mix 789, the ultra white camera is also high-powered. It is a 50 megapixel, Sony, mix 766. As far as the two smaller sensors are concerned, you get an eight megapixel telephoto lens, and then you also get a two megapixel monochrome sensor.

Now, I'm not personally very familiar with Hasselblad's color science and how much of that is actually making it to the OnePlus 9 pro, but pictures coming from the two main sensors are already looking really awesome. Not only is there a high level of vibrancy that I think a lot of you will enjoy coming out of this camera, but it also has perfect capabilities. As far as dynamic range is concerned, there are plenty of shots that you're going to see here where the sun is literally bearing down on the camera, and it was able to provide a perfect result. Regardless pictures are really sharp and as far as zoom levels are concerned again, yes, you do get an 8 megapixel telephoto, but when you go to the zoom level in the photo area, it goes straight to 3.3, meaning that it is already trying to do some of that hybrid zoom and, of course, when you go farther in the zoom levels, the more you see those diminishing returns. One nice capability of the ultra-wide lens is that it can be used as a macro lens as well.

It doubles up uh. This is considered the super macro mode when you are in the photo mode of the camera app, and you can get really close to subjects which is nice, because when you use the zoom capability, it's a little hard to get everything in focus, because the minimum focusing distance at 3.3 times zoom can be a little hard to find. Okay, first thing that I got to talk about when it comes to this camera here we're going to go through some modes, we're going to go through some of the features that the camera has, especially with this Hasselblad partnership. The first thing that actually you hear literally here from this partnership is the new camera sound. I mean just listen to this.

Like do you ever get a new camera, and you hear that shutter sound, and it just makes you feel so satisfied it's just such a satisfying sound, I'm actually getting those vibes from this camera system right now, but aside from the occasional flares coming from the sun bearing right down onto the lens overall, I'm finding that pictures are very sharp, they're, very pleasing and definitely the colors are very impressive, I'm definitely enjoying them, which brings me to a couple of thoughts regarding the whole Hasselblad partnership, if they're color science being applied to these sensors, at least on the software end, is definitely what is providing these great results, then I'm all for it. The other part of the Hasselblad partnership, however, is this whole Hasselblad pro mode. Now the pro mode only has to do with photos, which is a little of a bummer. I don't even see a pro video mode on this phone, but as far as the pro mode is concerned, it allows you to shoot in raw capture, and it only uses the main sensor. So you go a couple steps forward, maybe one step back and that's totally fine.

I totally get that um. What one of the things that Hasselblad is really trying to do is just provide perfect color science in general, with the main lens, the 50 megapixel Sony, mix sensor uh, so the colors hopefully are coming out. Nice and vibrant, perfect uh, really indicative of what Hasselblad has brought to the table, but as far as the pro mode is concerned, other than raw capture and high-res capture and some of the settings that you get to change up. I don't see anything. That's really, really different about Hasselblad's pro mode, even though the logo is right there.

So far the photos coming out of the auto mode are pretty satisfying. You just have to be diligent with that exposure. Slider, maybe bring it down a little when the camera comes in a bit too hot. On the exposure, some thoughts and, let's say quirks on video 4k video recording- is available throughout the different zoom levels, uh just not on the front-facing camera. Obviously, but one of the quirks about the zoom levels in video is that it's not actually using the telephoto lens.

Now I don't know if it's, because it's an eight megapixel shooter, maybe they just didn't tune it for that, but apparently uh OnePlus was happy enough with the main sensor uh getting cropped into two times, and that was the way that you were going to get your zoom in video. This is obviously different from the way zoom is treated in the photo mode. Now, in an area like a zoo where everything is pretty far away, you might want to have the best quality zoom possible. So this digital crop in is a little odd to me, but obviously for the most practical use cases I do tend to use the main and ultra white sensors the most, which is why you're seeing me vlog using the ultra white to pretty great effect. But that brings me to the whole philosophy of why the front-facing camera not being a good vloggers shooter.

Well, I'm making my piece with that. I think what a lot of these phone manufacturers are doing is they're telling us start using the rear cameras for literally everything, including vlogging. It's just that you have to treat the OnePlus 9 pro as like a Sony a73, because you don't get a viewfinder, but as long as you pretty much find yourself in the range of the two cameras and just stare into the two large eyes that are here on the rear, you're, probably going to be mostly okay. One thing that already impressed me- and I think you've been hearing it already- is that the sound quality is pretty great. Coming from the video capture on this phone.

That is thanks to a microphone literally here complete with a grille that is right above or right next to the two main lenses. That way, you have a microphone literally pointed at you, and the audio capture can be as good as possible. Well clearly, it's time to go, I mean they're corralling, these flamingos telling them to go inside end of the day, all right. So, let's get back um, take a look at these photos and videos on a computer see what the quality is like see you in a bit: okay, food, coma incoming, but I'm going to go ahead and get the photos and videos off of the phone, but I also need to plug it in, because I need to charge the phone I'm already down to 25 now granted I have been using the camera heavy today, that's what these railroad camera tests are all about, but with the quad HD plus resolution, the 120 hertz refresh rate a lot of recording using 4k on these cameras, I'm already down to this level of the battery, so take that for what you will, I'm sure that the battery life is at least average. Maybe a little above average, hopefully, and those fast charging times are going to be really useful for when situations like this come up and with that we move on to a new day, and I'll, give you some final thoughts as we move along now, you'll notice that I'm focusing on very specific aspects of the camera experience the reason why is that even OnePlus themselves don't over saturate their camera apps with too many features.

You got your video, your photo your portrait and then, of course, your nights cape, which I'm showing you some examples of right now and then, of course, that Hasselblad pro mode after that, you get your sort of typical extra modes. So there's not a lot here for me to actually show you, aside from the raw quality of the photos and the videos, given the quality that we've seen so far from the photos and the videos. I think that ultimately is a good thing that they didn't get too lost in the software sauce. As I usually say, if you've been paying attention to the corner, though you'll notice that there is actually 4k at 120 frames per second, I actually think that is a wonderful addition on here that allows you to get some of that really dramatic, slow motion footage at a high resolution and a high quality. That way you don't have to rely on the slow motion mode, which will always go down to 1080p, even if that is at 240.

, while you can classify the OnePlus 9 pro camera experience as a bit of a give and take. I think that there are some net positives on here and the 4k 120 is a great example of that. The Hasselblad color science is yet another big example of that, especially in photos and as far as the videos are concerned, you can actually use this phone as a pretty good vlogging machine as long as you use the rear cameras as your main shooters. So where does this leave us with the whole OnePlus and Hasselblad partnership? Well, I think overall, the net positives mean that this is a very good thing. This is very good news for OnePlus devices, both now and in the future, see with Hasselblad tuning the software color science for this camera.

For now, they are going to move into the hardware space with OnePlus for future devices, and I think, with that in mind, the only direction they can go is up. I'm excited to see what the two can put together with future devices, but as for right now, the OnePlus 9 pro is providing a really compelling camera experience with a few quirks along the way and a little of elbow grease needed in order to make sure that you're getting everything that you need from this camera package sure it might not have super far zooms, like some of its competitors and like the teasers, seem to kind of allude to, but ultimately the two main sensors that I think most of you will be using have been tuned to great effect. But I want to know what you think after this real world camera test. Let me know what you thought of the pictures and the videos you saw in the comment sections down below with all that said, I'm going to go ahead and call it on this real world camera test with the OnePlus 9 pro. As always.

Thank you so much for watching. Please take care of yourselves and each other and enjoy your tea. Everybody.
