OnePlus 9 Pro Quick Unboxing and Initial Impressions | Hasselblad Camera

Hey guys it’s Sagar and I finally managed to purchase the OnePlus 9 Pro in the beautiful Stellar Black colour. This is not a review unit, and like all other phones that you see on my channel, I have purchased this one myself. That’s the reason you see these videos after the phones go on sale and not before. Alright I don’t want this video to be too long, so lets just get on with the unboxing. I went with the 8GB RAM and 128GB Storage variant in Stellar Black colour. OnePlus 9 Pro comes in this familiar looking red box, and this time there is a lot of Hasselblad branding on the box.

That’s because OnePlus has collaborated with Hasselblad to improve the cameras on these phones. While opening the box, I found more Hasselblad branding on couple of places. Once the box is open, we have the OnePlus 9 Pro sitting at the top. And the first thing that I notice after picking it up, is that it feels light for a device of this size. I will just keep it aside, while we take a look at other things in the box.

Phone was sitting on this thick box, which hold quite a few things inside. First off, there is this very nice case, and it matches the colour of the phone that you get. Then there are some OnePlus stickers, followed by a leaflet showing the SAR values of this phone. Then there is the red cable club card, lot of other paperwork, a SIM tray ejection Pin and a letter from the CEO of OnePlus. Well OnePlus surely seems to be adding a lot of stuff in the box, when other companies are busy removing it.

Then we have the famous Red cable for charging and data transfer, and this time we get USB C ports on both the ends. So if you have an older computer which doesn’t have USB C ports, good luck trying to backup your data. And finally we have the 65 watt warp charger, with USB C port this time. I am really happy that OnePlus is giving this talker charger in India, as opposed to previous wider one. This one doesn’t take up a lot of space on the switch board, and it is pretty light as well.

So those are all the things that we get in the box. Let me keep them aside so we can get back to the phone. There’s that Hasselblad branding again. I am not sure how much Hasselblad can help improve the cameras on this phone, we will have to wait for my detailed camera review for that. I went with the Stellar Black colour because I love matter finish on its back.

This finish is actually much smoother than what OnePlus showed in the launch event. Under certain light, it does look like rough sandstone finish, but don’t be confused, it is very nice soft touch matte finish. If you guys remember, last year I dropped my OnePlus 8 Pro and dented its frame, so this time I am going to using it with this case on, most of the time. Now as the phone is booting up, let us take a look around it. At the top there is a noise cancelling microphone.

On the left side we get the volume up and down button. On the right side, there is a power or sleep wake button, and the signature alert slider above it. I feel there is a lot less resistance on this alert slider compared to previous OnePlus phones. And coming towards the bottom, we have the SIM tray on the left, a microphone, USB type C port for charging and data transfer and the speaker grill on the right. This SIM tray can hold 2 nano SIM cards.

Let me come back to the buttons for a second. We often don’t appreciate how good they are on all of the OnePlus smartphones. These are made of metal, they don’t rattle at all, and there is very nice tactile feedback when you press on them. The frame running around the phone is made of metal, and the over-all build quality on the Oneplus 9 Pro is very good. At the back, other than the OnePlus Logo, which is now centered, there is just get this quad camera module, which sticks out of the back a bit.

It is just enough to make the phone rattle when placed on the table. The included case does protect the camera module and lenses from getting scratched, but even with it on, the phone rattles when placed on a table. While we are here, let us quickly check out the cameras. Main camera gets a 48 Megapixel Sony IMX789 sensor with F/1.8 aperture and 23mm focal length. This camera is optically stabilised.

The ultra wide camera gets a mammoth 50 megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor with F/2.2 aperture. Yes, the ultra wide camera on the OnePlus 9 Pro gets even higher resolution than its main camera. Then there is an 8 Megapixel telephoto camera with F/2.4 aperture, and for some weird reason, this one offers is a 3.3x optical zoom compared to the primary camera. And this telephoto camera also gets optical image stabilisation. And finally there is 2 megapixel monochrome camera.

Don’t ask me why! Because I don’t know. If you do, let me know in the comments section. I will be making a very detailed camera review for this phone in the next few days, so make sure you are subscribed to the channel and have the notifications turned on. Coming to the front, we get a 6.7 inch display with a resolution of 3216x1440 pixels. Its an AMOLED display with LTPO and you get 120Hz refresh rate with 10-bit colour depth support.

The display can change its refresh rate depending on what you are doing on your phone, which is cool, as it save the battery life. Now this display is curved, but the not as much as the one on OnePlus 7 Pro or the 8 Pro. This is to reduce the accidental touches, which I and many other people were complaining about. I had another complain that the 8 Pro was too big and wide. While this 9 Pro is a few millimetres shorter, what I like even more is that its also a few millimetres narrower, which makes it fit comfortably in my hands.

Yes, I said hands, because it is still a 2 handed device for me. At the front, OnePlus is still using the 16 megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor. I have even lost the count of how long OnePlus has been using this same sensor, and I really think it’s time they started using something better. Towards the bottom, we do get the In display fingerprint sensor, which seems faster than ever. And yes like everyone says it is placed a bit too low.

It was the same on the OnePlus 7T, then they changed the position on the 8, and now on the 9 Pro, they again moved it lower. it’s not a big deal, you will just get a couple of days to get used to it. As you unlock the phone, you will feel how good the vibration motor on this phone is. One on the OnePlus 8 Pro and 8 were also good, but now it seems even stronger. I think OnePlus and Pixel has the best vibration motors amongst all android phones.

Inside, the 9 Pro packs in the latest Snapdragon 888 processor and Adreno 660GPU, 8/12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 128/256GB of UFS 3.1 2-Lane storage. To back this all up, it gets a 4500mAh battery. I am a bit worried about the battery performance, because I am not sure this battery is enough to power this huge display at 120Hz all the time, but I will have to use this phone for a little longer to be sure about it. When it is time to charge it up, the 65 watt charger makes sure to completely juice it in just about half an hour. And if you have the OnePlus wireless charger, it also supports 50 watt wireless charging.

It is running on the latest version of Oxygen OS which is built on top of Android 11. I even got an update just after I finished shooting this video, which is nice. I have said before that Oxygen OS is one of my favourite UI. Yes, they have changed a few things and it doesn’t look like it did before, but it is still better than other Android skins. I like how simple and minimal it is, and it still offers us a lot of features.

Now I have had this phone for less than a day, so it is not enough time to check its overall performance or know about its battery life. So I will have to spend more time with it, I will let you guys know more about it in my full review. Right now, I can tell you that this phone looks and feels fantastic in my hands. It does get pretty hot when I was setting it up, I hope this doesn’t turn out to be a big issue in the future. I am really exited to test out its camera, and compare them with the other phones that I have.

By the time you are watching this video, I would have actually used it for a couple of days, and have clicked a lot of images with it, so you can expect a very detailed camera review to drop on the channel very soon. If you are looking to buy this phone, I will really appreciate if you guys but it from the affiliate link in the description section. That is it for this video guys.
