OnePlus 9 5G Review

Hey guys Justine here of your tech and this 2021 OnePlus attempts to shake things up a bit with the launch of their OnePlus 9 series, with their partnership with Hasselblad. It sure is appealing to users who are into mobile photography now. This is another step towards a new direction from being an upstart brand with a small but overly loyal, fan base into a mainstream mobile phone manufacturer. So does the OnePlus 9 represent a welcome change in the company's direction? Let's find out all right. One thing that strikes you with the design of this OnePlus 9 is the return of the glossy finish. Instead of a matte one from recent models, the winter mist color that we have really looks nice.

It's like a adolescent color that transitions between pink and purple. It also features a gradient that makes it appear darker at the lower part, while the official specs say that the back is covered in gorilla glass, the build seems to be more plastic than its predecessors, probably due to the use of plastic instead of aluminum for the frame. Other things we can find at the back is the OnePlus logo, together with a 2021 style camera bump, where you get three lenses together with a LED flash of course, you'll notice, the Hasselblad logo, which we'll talk more about later on up front. We get a display size of 6.55 inch with slim bezels all around well, if you're into curved displays, you can opt for the pro model, noticeably there's quite a heft when holding the phone compared to its predecessor, but it doesn't really bother us that much for buttons and ports on the left. We have the volume rocker while on the right are the power button and the alert slider they're, all click and tactile located at the bottom, are the loudspeaker main microphone, USB type c port and a dual NATO sim card slot.

The top part houses the secondary microphone together with the speakerphone, which is cleverly hidden along the top bezel. It also acts as a secondary speaker when playing media to make a stereo setup, which is nice. Taking a closer look at the display. We get a 6.55 inch, fluid AMOLED screen with a 2400 by 1080 pixels resolution, support for HDR, 10 plus and a 120 hertz refresh rate, making everything smoother, while the refresh rate is one area where we feel the downgrade from its pro sibling is. The display itself is no slouch either significantly.

If you haven't jumped into high refresh rate displays, colors and viewing angles are on par with what you'd expect from AMOLED panels and its peak brightness can help you in situations where you would need it. Aside from the usual display, customization features like the option to hide the punch, hole, notch full custom screen calibration color temperature adjustment, reading mode and vibrant color effect. OnePlus also introduced an ultra-high video resolution mode that uses AI to improve video clarity. Okay, when it comes to audio the OnePlus 9 5g utilizes, a combination of its bottom firing, loudspeaker and earpiece. So while it gets loud enough to fill the room, you might notice the slight difference in the emphasis on the mid, which could be attributed to its sticker profile and different choice of materials compared to its flagship, siblings.

But overall, it's still decent enough for casual listening and gaming, as you may have noticed, there's no headphone jack on board, but the phone offers its usual suite of audio customizations. When connected to Bluetooth speakers under the hood, the OnePlus 9 5g is powered by none other than the current Qualcomm flagship chipset, the snapdragon triple eight. It comes along with an arena 660 GPU up to 12 gigabytes of ram and up to 256 gigabytes of internal storage. OnePlus emphasis on speed still rings through with this device. It can basically handle anything you throw at it.

Even heavy activities for some benchmark scores. Take a look at the results we got. As for gaming, performance is fast as expected, it was able to handle gang shin impact in asphalt.9 with no sweat. We'd, also like to note that the phone's gaming mode has been updated to provide better controls and keep you on top of the game. However, we did encounter some heating when playing for long periods of time.

Moving on running the software department is oxygen, OS 11.2, that's based on android 11. This is still one of the best android skins in the market. Despite the big design changes, that's comparable to Samsung's one UI, you still get a clean interface together with customization options. You've known OnePlus phones for nonetheless managing the device has become a little easier thanks to its large menu headers. Its pre-installed apps are kept at a minimum, which only includes the standard google apps and a couple of proprietary apps like the OnePlus community app while Netflix is also pre-installed to ensure hdr10 support the system files take about 25 gigabytes of the total storage, leaving you about 231 gigabytes of usable space connectivity-wise, the OnePlus 9 has all the modern features such as dual sim support, Wi-Fi Bluetooth, 5.2, USB 3.1, type-c, NFC and, of course, 5g. Keeping this device running is a 4-hour battery with support for warp charge, 65t and 15 watts.

Wireless charging power delivery over USB is also supported, allowing it to charge your device with other USB type-c pd chargers. The battery life managed to hold up for a day despite playing asphalt, 9 for a total of 3 hours in standard graphics, settings and 60 frames per second, so with moderate use, you'll be able to get more than a day's worth of battery. From this thing, charging is also very convenient because you get a very fast wired charger which can charge your phone from zero to a hundred percent in less than 40 minutes, and as I've mentioned, it also conveniently supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging. In our standard video loop test, wherein we keep a 1080p movie on loop at 50, brightness, zero percent volume and airplane mode turned on the device lasted a complete 25 hours. Meanwhile, in the PC Mark's work 2.0 battery test, it got a score of 11 hours and 58 minutes either way. Both of these are solid results.

Now, let's focus on cameras. As you may already know, OnePlus focused on improving their cameras by partnering up with iconic Swedish camera brand Hasselblad in this regard, OnePlus renamed their pro mode as the Hasselblad pro mode. This pro mode allows you to manually control how you take your pictures, so it's perfect for pros, or even for people who wish to explore mobile photography more seriously. At the back, we have a triple setup, consisting of a 48 megapixel main, a larger 50 megapixel lens for ultrawide and a 2 megapixel monochrome. Meanwhile, for selfies we get a 16 megapixel shooter.

When it comes to quality, we get some good color production and crisp shots in well-lit environments with good dynamic range. Unfortunately, we're missing a telephoto lens with this OnePlus 9. Instead, it has a dedicated monochrome camera and when it comes to ultra-wide shots, the results are pretty good and have a wider field of view with minimal distortion around the edges. There's a bit of noise for low light photography, but there's also a good amount of detail in captured shots with good color production for selfies. It's actually pretty good, especially in well-lit conditions.

We get sharp details and natural looking skin tone like most phones. It also supports portrait shots, but the background blur may seem too strong and unnatural, sometimes, sadly, there's no way to adjust the level of blur for videos. The OnePlus 9 5g can shoot up to 8k resolution at 30 frames per second and quality wise. It looks sharp and steady thanks to its electronic image stabilization, and it produces good colors as well. This can also allow you to shoot HDR videos, but you need to manually turn it on in the settings.

So, let's finally talk about price at 38, 990 pesos, the OnePlus 9 5g is slowly approaching a price level. Many of us would consider as flagship so the omission of is and the lack of an IP rating might dissuade you from getting this device. But despite these misses the OnePlus 9 5g is still undoubtedly a solid flagship for all the features we've known OnePlus to excel on from its dedication to packing the fastest hardware around to the minor tweaks that make oxygen, OS 11 tick. While changes to OnePlus strategy has seen it transformed to a mainstream phone manufacturer, they need to step up their game in making sure that their flagship phones stick all the boxes expected at their price point and in delivering software updates to its users, as the industry leaders have stepped up in this regard, there is hope that their partnership with Hasselblad will help close the gaps in the camera department and bring out OnePlus phones full potential as a competitive flagship phone at a lower price and yeah that wraps up this video guys share to us what you think about this OnePlus 9 5g in the comments below and like usual.
