Welcome back everyone, as you all know, the OnePlus 8t just got released. I got mine in house, and we're going to be taking a look at my voice is being so weird we're going to take a look at the OnePlus 8t and compare it against the OnePlus 7t pro and pretty much see which one you should pick up now. Honestly, if you have all the money in the world, picking up the OnePlus 8t is probably the better way to go: you're going to be getting a better phone, a better performing phone, a better looking phone, all that crazy stuff. But I'll even tell you. The OnePlus 7t pro that pretty much came out a year ago is still a solid phone in a lot of categories. It may not be like the best phone or the best used phone or whatever, but I think for a majority of things, you're going to do the OnePlus 7t pro and the OnePlus 8t are very similar in a lot of ways, and I think this has a lot to do with, like I stated before, the software versions of these phones OnePlus makes perfect software and that's something I really do like about this company, but we'll hit on that.
A little later, pricing wise the OnePlus 8t costs. You know a little more than the OnePlus 7t pro, but you can pick up both of these on Amazon, and I'll go ahead and find the cheapest prices on Amazon and link them down in the description below. So you can get them from there and help support the channel. At the same time, now, looking on the front panels of both the OnePlus 7t pro has a 6.67 inch, fluid AMOLED display, and it's actually a 1440p panel, and it's 90 hertz, and I think it's a pretty good panel overall, you know I really never had any issues with it, and it's actually a perfect panel. I think it holds up extremely well.
It did have that pop-up camera at the time which was revolutionary, and I'm glad one plus one away from it. It's a cool concept like if it's kind of cool, but it's also kind of gimmicky, and I was honestly kind of scared about it at the time too, and I think that's something that's actually really, really important, for you know companies to make these type of advances and improvements, but also go back if they think they're wrong and the 70 pros pop-up camera may be something that you like, or maybe something you don't like, but I'll tell you for sure. Furthermore, it makes the phone look that much more futuristic when there's very little bezel around the whole entire display. Now the OnePlus 8t, on the other hand, has a little of a smaller 6.55 inch fluid AMOLED display, but this one is 1080p, so a little smaller and a little low resolution, but you do get an increase in that refresh rate. So not only do you have the 90 hertz, which you don't have on the 80, you have that 120 hertz on the OnePlus 8t, so definitely an improvement.
But I've said this before, and I'll say this again and I have a whole video talking about it. Basically, when it goes from 60 to 90 hertz, I think that's a bigger increase than going from 90 hertz to 120 hertz, and in this case it's probably this. I mean the OnePlus 8t has a better performance display for sure, but the 7t pros panel is still perfect too, and I don't really have like a crazy preference, but I think some bigger differences between these phones would probably come in the form of the panel now, obviously, the internals and software and everything's a little different too, but I'll definitely say the way. These phones, look, if you like a smaller phone by a little, the 80 may be a better way to go, but the 70 pro is still a beautiful phone for sure. Now they both have USB type c ports on the bottom and on the back you can see they have a little of different backs on both.
So the 7t pro has that standard glass back where the OnePlus 8t has somewhat of a frosted glass. Back now me personally, I, like the frosted glass back. A lot more, I feel, like the 70 pros panel is kind of standard. It's like what you expect, but the at has that really nice frosted, that's pretty much. You know consensus with the rest of the world right now, and it's like a more premium feeling.
It's like the advancement of the back and the iPhone 11 pros. Had it the note.20 ultra had it, and these phones have it too, which is really nice, so that's definitely an improvement for sure, and then we have that camera setup on both these devices. So the OnePlus 7t pro has a 48 megapixel, wide angle lens and an 8 megapixel telephoto lens, and then a 16 megapixel ultrawide sensor with the OnePlus 8t has a 48 megapixel wide angle, lens a 16 megapixel ultrawide sensor, a 5, megapixel micro lens, then 2 megapixel depth sensor. Now both phones can do 4k 60, which is really nice. The OnePlus 7t pros camera, I think, is pretty good for the most part, and I've said this before, and I'll say it again.
I don't really have any problems with these specific phone cameras. I just don't think they're as great as something like the galaxy s20. Furthermore, I honestly don't even think these cameras are good. Maybe the OnePlus 8t's camera is kind of the same part with like the Samsung Galaxy s10, but even the OnePlus 8t is still missing a telephoto lens and I don't know you know I feel like OnePlus could do a little of a better job with both these cameras, though 70 pro like, I stated, I mean it's good for the most part, it'll be able to do everything you throw at it, and you know for the majority of people out there that you're, not filming. You know movie like videos on your phone you're just trying to go, and you know make a quick video or make a quick Snapchat or tick-tock or whatever and move on with your day.
You're, not really thinking about the camera, and I think both these phones will be able to do you just fine, but, like I stated, I think the biggest problem with the OnePlus 7t pro will come in the form of that motorized pop-up camera. Now it's a 16 megapixel sensor, there 1080p at 30 frames- and I don't know like I think it's like an okay thing, but I don't know too much about it. I mean every app that I ever used the 70 pros front camera on it worked. You know it functioned properly, Snapchat whatever, but maybe there could be a case where a software issue would not allow that motorized pop-up camera to come up. I don't know if that would ever come or if you break that pop-up camera like what would happen, then.
So that's something to consider too, with the OnePlus 8t. You know, I think it has the better camera setup for sure just has to because it's the newer phone, but I also think you know there's a lot of similarities between both these phones, including the front camera. You know you have a 16 megapixel front facing camera on the OnePlus 8t as well, and these phones are a year apart from each other, and how have they still maintained the same camera on it? It makes no sense still only 1080p at 30. It doesn't make any sense to me. I feel like OnePlus could have done a better job and, like I said before, it is what it is, there's nothing we can really do about it, but I wish there could have been a case where we had 4k at 60 or something like that on the front of the OnePlus 8t.
I would say the back camera definitely goes to the OnePlus 8t, but the front camera is pretty much the same as everything on both phones. Furthermore, I would just say the at- is better because it's not like a motorized pop-up camera, but that's still something that people may not even care about for the 70 pro. So in terms of cameras that pretty much covers it up now in terms of the software updates, you know the OnePlus 7t pro is still on android 10. I think it's getting the android 11 updates soon. The OnePlus 8t, on the other hand, is getting android 11.
I think it already shipped with android 11. So it's only a matter of time before we actually go and get the other updates on it, and you know realistically why software wise and everything the OnePlus 7t pro is not going to last as long as something like an OnePlus 8t. Unfortunately, you know, but it's a given the OnePlus 8t, how you know OnePlus software lifecycle works out is that, basically you know the phone that comes out that year. That's pretty much getting the same updates that the 70 is getting the same updates as a 7t. The 7t is getting the same updates at the OnePlus 7.
So that's a big thing to keep in mind and, like I said before, when it comes down to both of these you're, pretty much going to be getting for the most part like pretty good software experiences on both, and it's not going to feel like you have a device, that's like way slower or not going to you know last as long as the other one, and that is something that's also extremely important in my opinion. Now, when it comes down to the actual software in itself, it's almost exactly the same. I don't really like auction OS 11 that much, but it is what it is. There's nothing really do about it, but that really pretty much covers up the software experience. In my opinion now hitting on the performance side of things.
The OnePlus 7t pro has that Qualcomm snapdragon 855, plus chipset and outscore CPU in arena, 640, GPU and 8 x, ram on that base model and then 12 gigs of ram on the top two models that it was supported with where the OnePlus 8t, on the other hand, has that Qualcomm snapdragon, 865 chipsets and onto core CPU and arena 650, GPU and 8 gags of ram again on that base model and 12 gigs of ram on that top tier model and, like I said before many times again, the OnePlus 7t pro was an perfect performing phone that 98 refresh rate really helped in making it kind of seem faster than it was, and that is something that's really important. When you have a device like your OnePlus 7t pro that doesn't have crazy software, that doesn't have anything, it's very minimalistic at its core, and it's a pretty huge asset of it. That is something that I really do like about the OnePlus 7t pro. But when you go to something like an OnePlus 8t, it's just a newer version and a know better faster version than the OnePlus 7t pro, so just as a given, it's going to be faster and that's what I always try to say. It's just going to be a faster device, because it's the newer version of the older one and that's not necessarily to say the OnePlus 7t pro is a bad phone.
I think the biggest asset of the OnePlus 7t pro is its smoothness with the pretty much stock software as well as that higher refresh rate. That really makes this seem faster than it really is. In my opinion, which, like I said before, is a huge asset of it. So definitely when it comes down to both, I don't think the OnePlus 8t is 50 times fast or anything like that, and I don't even think if you have a 70 pro, you should go to the OnePlus 8t just because of the performance or anything, but I still think it's a perfect upgrade for sure in terms of the performance factor. So in terms of that that pretty much covers it up now, ending it off with a battery life.
The OnePlus 7t pro has a 4085 million power battery. The OnePlus 8t has that 4500 William hour battery now, unfortunately, neither of these phones support wireless charging or reverse wireless charging, which may seem crazy, but that's kind of like a know, set it's not a necessity, but it's something that's pretty common nowadays. The fact that the OnePlus 8t doesn't have it is pretty insane to me, but what I can tell you are between both the OnePlus 8t is probably going to have the better battery life, even though it does have that bigger and better refresh rate. It doesn't necessarily mean that you know the batteries to be that much worse and I think the 7t pro has a downside too. With a higher rear resolution screen and a bigger screen, I can kind of make it a little worse when it comes down to the battery life, I'm not going to say it's horrible or anything, but that is still something to kind of consider at the end of the day.
So when it comes down to the battery life, I'll probably say the OnePlus 8t, maybe the better phone when it comes down to it now to kind of sum up this video and to answer the question: should you pick up the OnePlus 7t pro? Should you pick up the OnePlus 8t? What I can tell you is like I've stated before kind of the OnePlus.8T is the better phone. In this case it is better. It is faster, it's better looking. It feels kind of feels kind of the same, but it feels more premium. Let's just say that, and it has a lot of assets for sure.
Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but I would still tell you if you have an OnePlus 7t pro, like I said before, I would recommend keeping that phone for at least like another like year or two like that phone is not going anywhere anytime. Soon, it's still going to be a very fast phone. It's still going to be very capable phone and there's really not that much you're going to miss out. If you keep your 70 pro, it's a bigger phone, which you know some people may like it has you know that motorized pop-up camera that some people may like, and it has a higher resolution display. So that may be something.
If you don't mind, if you don't really care about anything else, that may be something that you know you are personally a fan of, and I can't really knock that. But if you're somebody who you know wants to just get a brand-new phone right now and move on with their life, then obviously the OnePlus 8t is the better way to go. It's just easier to pick up, and you can just buy it on OnePlus website. You can pick it up on Amazon, you can move on from there, and you don't have to worry about. Oh, like is it.
Do I have to haggle with the person to buy it or whatever it's a very straightforward procedure? You just buy it and then move on with your life. So there's obviously some pros for that device too. If I were in a position like you were, and I didn't have either of these phones, I would probably end up picking an OnePlus 7t pro, I think just because it's cheaper, and I love the software. I know these phones very well. So I know nothing's going to go wrong for the most part, but these phones kind of fail at the same area.
So it's not like one is way better than the other one. I would rather pick up a galaxy s20, which is cheaper on Amazon than the OnePlus 8t, but these phones kind of you know miss out on something like the really great cameras. That would have been something. That's really awesome, especially really great front camera, but both these phones kind of lack in it. So there's really nothing.
We can do about that, so I wish there was expandable storage. I wish there was IP certification. I wish there was wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, but because we don't have that on either of these, it's really not a big deal. Furthermore, I guess to even note it, but in terms of everything that really pretty much covers it up, if you guys have any other questions or anything, let me know in the comment section below hit the like button.
