OnePlus 8T revisit: 8 months later

All right so we've got yet another revisit and this time we're taking a look at the OnePlus 8t in our two previous videos. We talked about the galaxy s20 Fe and the Pixel 4a. Two great phones released in 2020 make sure you check out those videos if you haven't, yet now it's been about eight months since OnePlus dropped the 8t, the successor to the 7t, a phone, I still love by the way, and it went toe to toe with the s20 Fe and the pixel 5. Each phone helped boost this sub 800 flagship killers smartphone category last year, and man talk about the 8t being a heavy hitter, the phone launched for 750 dollars. Now, that's still not inexpensive, and its competitors launched for a little less. But you mean to tell me I can get a phone with flagship level specs for two to three hundred dollars less than the actual flagships.

Sign me up now. In a way, this video is kind of bad timing, because OnePlus actually dropped the 80s price down to dollars from May 27th to today. The 31st and chances are you're watching this. Well. After that time frame, but don't worry because there are a handful of spots where you can grab an 80 for around that price or even less Amazon currently has it for 600, and if you go the used route on places like eBay and swap, you can snag one for closer to the 400 to 450 range.

So what exactly are you getting for those prices boom there? You go, that's quite the spec sheet, and it's not going to take you long to notice the main theme of this phone. If you haven't noticed yet that theme is power and speed, and that becomes extra apparent when using this phone eight months later, as expected, it absolutely flies in just about every way everyday performances, as it should be, at least in my experience I haven't noticed any abnormalities with the 865 processor. As far as overheating and battery drain, nothing like that granted the phone does get pretty warm during heavy use, but that's normal battery life has been fine. I get a full day's use, no problem, it's reliable, and I get anywhere between six and seven hours of screen on time per charge. The in-display fingerprint scanner, while not ultrasonic, it performs well other than a couple misreads here and there overall.

I don't really have anything to complain about when it comes to using this phone. Now I have seen users with plenty of complaints, and I've seen users with none to speak of, as always. This here is all in my use, so your experience may be different. So what stands out most about this phone? Isn't how quickly I can open and switch between apps. It isn't how smooth the scrolling experience is, while those are great aspects of this phone, a lot of phones provide speed and fluidity.

What a lot of phones don't have is 65 watt fast charging, it's pretty crazy, how you can plug this phone in with a completely empty battery and juice it up to a hundred percent in well under an hour and up to over 50 percent in just 15 minutes with a warp charger now the 8t doesn't have wireless charging, which it definitely should have had, especially with the price this phone launched for, but since it isn't around, you could argue this incredibly fast wired charging kind of makes up for it and over the past few months, as someone who likes wireless charging because of how convenient it is, I've been fine without it, because this is also really convenient. Another thing that really stands out is how well-built this phone is: it's a glass and aluminum sandwich that towers over this phone's main competitors in terms of how premium it feels pair that with strong, tight, haptics, and you've got more than enough to put how the pixel, 5 and s20 Fe feel to shame. Now, when it comes to the cameras, if I'm being completely honest, they're good on their own, what these cameras produce will be just fine for most people, it's when they're so closely, compared to what the top dogs have to offer that they start to get labeled. Not so great I'll put it like this if you're looking for the best camera experience in a smartphone look elsewhere, if all you need is a versatile set of cameras that push out nice results and quality you'll be good with these trust me and if you wanted to, you could go ahead and install a Guam port to help things out. The 8t isn't completely loaded with features like a galaxy.

It isn't super-duper simple and straightforward, like a pixel, but it strikes a nice balance between the two oxygen OS on top of android 11 provides a clean UX, but doesn't skimp on features, especially when it comes to the pleasantly customizable stock launcher and with android 12 on the way, I'm sure that'll take things to the next level. The display is phenomenal. It still is one of the surrounding best's a joy. To both look at and use the stereo speakers sound pretty good again, the hardware is absolutely top-notch and while the phone may lack things like expandable storage, a headphone jack and wireless charging, it still has things that a lot of phones don't have like 65 watt, fast charging and the oh, so underrated alert slider. I love this thing by the way and I really wish more smartphone manufacturers would implement this in their phones.

To me, the 8t is all about day-to-day user experience and what it's like to run this as your main phone. It's one of those situations where you'd have to give the phone a try yourself to really get what I'm trying to say and not just rely on the spec sheet which, by the way, isn't a good idea in general. This, of course, is not a perfect phone, but boy. Is it a blast to use? Many months later, I can't exactly recommend this phone at 750, and it may not be the best overall option, even with those price drops. But in my eyes it is most definitely worth your consideration in 2021 and if you can find it for the right amount, I say go for it.

So what do you think of the OnePlus 8t in 2021? Let's talk about it in the comments below feel free to drop a like. If you enjoyed this video subscribe to the channel if you're new, it's been Zack I'll talk to you guys later, and thank you so much for watching.
