Motorola Moto G9 Plus Review (Largest Screen Motorola With Big Battery, Quad Camera)

Hi guys this is json. com, and I'm here with a review of the Motorola motor g9, plus one of the biggest smartphones this year, and I'm talking about a pretty large diagonal of 6.81 inches at the same time, it's easier to handle than the also big Nokia 8.35 g. So this one was launched in September 2020 and uh. It's a mid-range handset with a quad camera at the back side and priced at only 250 dollars in some country, even closer to 200. It's a big battery phone available in indigo, blue or also rose gold. Furthermore, it's meant for a video consumption, a bit of gaming and also some photo and video taking okay.

So it's time to discuss the design first and foremost, as you can see, we have quite thick bezels here and a pretty big chin and also punch hole for the selfie camera. We got the glass at the front side and the rest of the body is made of plastic. We got plastic on the back side with a mirror-like effect and also plastic for the frame. The handset is rather beefy one of the thickest phones around 9.7 millimeters in thickness and weighs a hefty 223 grams. However, in spite of those measurements, I found it easier to wield compared to the Nokia 8.35 g and even though it's a bit slippery, it's definitely not as slippery as the Nokia phone. It also helps that we have a bundled case, which you saw in the unboxing and the buttons have a pretty comfy feedback, especially the flat one, with the fingerprint scanner embedded, which you can see right here.

Okay, so that's that I should also add that the back side draws a lot of fingerprints and grease, but once again you are saved by the bundled case now screen wise. I keep mentioning the large and generous diagonal that we have here. It's a 6.81 inch IPS LCD with the laps technology and also with the hdr10 support, which is actually nice to see here. The resolution is a typical 2400 over 1080 pixels, with a 20 to 9 aspect ratios, and I would say that the punch hole may distract you from the viewing. You can see it right here, but not as much as it would have done where it placed in the center here anyways.

I have to say that the brightness is medium, there's a definition of it. If you go outdoors and the sun is powerful, you may notice that the legibility will decrease the view. Angles are, I would say, sufficient, they're, not groundbreaking they're, just okay and the colors are well, I would say, decently calibrated, even though they may feel a bit washed out, and you'll see whiter hues than you're going to see on other handsets out there. Okay. So that's what we're getting here a bit of a compromise.

As far as the screen is concerned, the pixel arrangement is of the RGB stripes variety, and here you can see the lux meter value. We measure the brightness with uh lux meter, and we achieve 397 lux units, which is very close to a threshold of 400 lux, which we rely on its superior to the Poco x3 NFC and the Realme six, but inferior to the one plus north and Motorola one fusion plus, as well as the hallway p40 light 5g. You can also tweak the experience of the display if you go to the settings uh. Okay, so let's actually find those settings you go here. You press display, you got brightness night light adaptive, brightness styles, wallpaper, big display and also colors, which can be set to natural boosted or saturated by default.

The saturated actually prefer the natural option. Now, if you go inside the phone, you should be able to find a familiar CPU, let's check it out. So it's the Qualcomm snapdragon 730 g, which is an eight nanometer outscore CPU, which you've also seen on quite a few handsets like the Samsung Galaxy m51 Motorola, one fusion, plus the Pixel 4a and the Xiaomi mi note 10 lite, as well as the galaxy a71 and a few other handsets out there um, if I'm not mistaking okay. So aside from that, aside from this processor that we have here, we should also have four or six gigs of ram. We only have four here, lpddr4x and 128 gigabytes of storage, coupled with a micro SD card slot.

The good news is that we don't suffer from any trace of lag or problems. So there will be no stutter, no freeze, no problem, even in games. So that's the good news, of course, you're going to run PUBG and Call of Duty, maybe not on high, but definitely on a medium towards high level of graphics. When it comes to the benchmarks, we got them here for you, and you go to on two to eight, and these are the results we achieved. We start off with on two to eight, where we're just a notch above the Motorola one, fusion plus, as well as above the galaxy a71 and the Oppo arena.

Four light. Uh, however, we're below the Xiaomi mi note 10 lite, which has a similar CPU and also below the Realme six in geek bench 5 in the multicore subtest. We scored above the motor racer 5g, which is much more expensive, but only by two points above the lg velvet, which is clearly more expensive and above the Motorola one, fusion plus, we also beat the galaxy a71, still we're no match to the pretty cheap polo, x3 NFC and the OnePlus north and then 5g. The gamers will be curious to see how we're doing in 3d marks slingshot extreme BS.3.1 were just above the galaxy a80 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 pro, which was a bit of a gaming phone, also above the Motorola one, fusion plus, but below the Realme six Poco x3 NFC and the Huawei p40 lite, so we're basically in between the typical snapdragon 730 phones and just below the snapdragon 765 g. We also did other tests which go hand in hand with performance temperature tests, and I will be happy to inform you that in benchmarks we didn't surpass 31.5 degrees Celsius where in games we didn't go past 34.5 degrees Celsius. So there is no overheating here now battery wise Motorola has been putting generous batteries on his phones for a while.

Now this is no exception, and this big screen is accompanied by a large five thousand William hour battery with 30 watt charging. Okay, so let's see how we did here so uh when it comes to video playback. The result is satisfying with 16 hours and 15 minutes, which means we're beating the Oppo a72, the motor g5 g plus and the Poco x3 NFC, but we scored below the OnePlus north galaxy a71 and galaxy a70. A more impressive result is the one I mean PC, mark, continuous usage, 13 hours and 29 minutes, uh we're actually surpassing uh. This is actually a pretty good score by the way, we're surpassing galaxy, a41, opp, Reno, four light Huawei p40, light galaxy a51, but we're staying below several other mid-ranges like the galaxy a70 a71 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 pro.

The full charge is done in one hour and 19 minutes, not very impressive, but also not exactly bad. It's no two hours for sure and after 30 minutes, you're 50. This is actually a pretty solid result with one hour delivering 90 percent of charge. Now, let's talk about the acoustics okay. So first we have the singular speaker at the bottom here with quite a few holes and at the top side you can see the audio jack.

In many countries this device comes banded with a pair of wireless headphones, also made by Motorola okay time to turn up the volume and listen to some tunes. Some copyright free music. So here we go so a bunch of conclusions, so you're definitely not going to cover the speaker in landscape mode. The orifices are just out of the way on my finger. The volume is quite satisfying, not the loudest in the world, but satisfying, I would say the bass is pretty punchy.

The high notes aren't that impressive. So the highs are a bit of a letdown and the voices are pretty well heard. I noticed that if you turn it all the way to the max and listen to a more intense tune, you are going, or rather you may hear some distortion at top volume. We also did some decibel meter tests and with an acoustic sample here we are at 89.4 decibels superior to the Huawei p40 lite and OnePlus word inferior to the Huawei nova, 5t and Huawei p. Smart 2021 we're doing much better in gaming.100.5 decibels not bad superior to the OnePlus word n105g Poco x3 NFC, and a galaxy a71 from Samsung inferior to the Realme 6 and Samsung Galaxy a41, plus the Xiaomi mi 10 lite 5g, so uh acoustic-wise acoustics-wise, I'm pretty happy with what we're achieving here, even though we're not dealing with stereo speakers and by the way, we also have a special app here which lets you tweak the experience this one with settings for vocalize, treble balanced bass, punch, extreme bass and more okay. Now moving on to the camera uh, we got the front camera the selfie camera cut in a punch hole here.

It's a 16, megapixel shooter, which does strangely enough four megapixel shots with a very long aspect ratio. I actually had to tweak it for a more decent aspect ratio and if you go to the back side, we have a generous flash here: a 64 megapixel quad pixel camera, which pulls off 16 megapixel shots with f 1.8 aperture and face detection autofocus. Then we have the ultra-wide megapixel camera and a 2 megapixel macro camera and a 2 megapixel both camera once again, generous flash 4k video capture and the usual suspects, the usual options that Motorola basically always provides in his camera. UI, I'm talking about the well typical portrait, cutout macro, spot, color, night vision, cinema graph, also manual mode, raw capture and AI features. Okay, so this gallery I have here, is actually two tiered.

I actually did the two galleries, one on December first and one on December 12th, okay, so December 1st was plagued by a lot of fog. It was a very foggy day and in spite of that, and in spite of lacking a telephoto camera, I would say that the zoom of the camera digital zoom is quite decent. I would even put it on par with the Huawei p40 light and the p30 light, which were landmarks when it came to digital, well, zooming, okay, several more shots here, they're darker, it was a pretty dark day and a cloudy day with a lot of fog. So you should take that into account. You can clearly see the differences between the main camera shots and the ultra-wide camera shots, which is this one here.

So this one is foggy, but you can make all the colors and details pretty well, but the ultra white one it's much darker grayer and, of course it skims on the details. You definitely tell it's an only an 8 megapixel camera. Now the colors per se are satisfying the blues and the reds always kept me satisfied. So when you're hunting for accurately calibrated colors, this should do it for you, the 64 megapixel camera actually delivers in that regard. Now I have some more colorful toys here.

Well calibrated color, wise, and these are attempts at taking macro shots. I would say they're pretty successful. I didn't have to take a ton of shots to actually make them, and I was honestly more impressed by the close-ups done with the main camera rather than the macro shots, but that's something customary for us, a bunch of bones. With this statue here, portrait both shots. The camera was able to cut the head of the statue very well from the background, even though the fork also held for the dramatic effect nice texture of the very last roses in the winter snow and roses don't mix well together.

So these are probably the last you'll see in 2020 very crisp texture here you can also see the water droplets on a rose which, for a 200 phone you'll, be shocked that you can actually achieve that. Okay and selfies were also taken here. But honestly, it's got a weird aspect: ratio which is very long, and the 4 megapixel resolution doesn't exactly complement the camera. As you can tell, the long aspect doesn't cut it for me, but somehow the bulky shots were quite fine. I'm actually going to go ahead and skip to the second part of the gallery, which is actually more satisfying, especially after I found the proper aspect here we go.

Okay, I love the way the both is able to separate the main subject from the background. So when it comes to both, the camera actually handles itself. Well, and here we are finder with a decent aspect ratio. A pretty nice texture of the skin- and there is a weird anecdote here. I really remember the picture here, because it's funny you can see the pillow marks on the face.

Haven't just woken up. It's one of those things where you can actually notice the pillow marks on the face. After sleeping for a while anyways you get it, I'm actually happy with what we're achieving here, considering we're only working with 4 megapixel shots from the 16 megapixel camera, several more colorful images here, and I feel that in the second gallery, which was a bit sunnier, the colors were a bit overblown. So this leads me to believe that on a sunnier day you may catch some overexposure and the reds may become pink. However, on a cloudy day, colors were kept pretty realistic, I would say we can definitely fight phones like um, let's see um Oppo Reno for light or even surpass them.

For me, this is supposed to be the best Moto G phone I tested lately or every camera wise, especially the main camera. The macro is just okay and the ultra white doesn't deliver detail-wise, but otherwise I would say that the level of detail is uh higher than what we achieved with the Oppo Renault four light and the OnePlus north and then 5g. We go to the low light captures which sadly didn't capture that much light. So that's something to remember and often times. I noticed that there was a bit of blurriness and the fact that there were some weird hues by the way standard shot and night shot, even though you may be impressed by this, you actually shouldn't be because there's a bit of murkiness here and even though you get more light, things are more moved because you actually have to wait for that longer exposure, and you may get shaky okay now, when you're starting to do more shots, you'll notice that the zoom is let's say, decent digital zoom and quite a few pictures have a slightly pink or orange hue to them pink orange and more as you progress.

Obviously, the ultra white cannot cope with this situation, so it's best to stay away. They, the ultra white shots, will overflow the light sources, they will change the color, and this is the night mode which makes everything a bit warmer, and I know it's brighter, but in the end you really may wake up with some moved images: okay, an ultrawide shot, just 10 megapixels and losing quite a few details. So not the best ultraviolet camera. I've seen better excuse me, not the best night mode, camera I've seen phones pulling off better results, but if you stick to the night mode, and you're patient enough, and you have stable hands, you should deliver some decent enough results for your social media needs. Definitely not a landmark.

I remember that. Last year we had one or two Motorola phones, which were landmarks in low light capture. Now, when it comes to the video actually think I've done too many, because we have 14 videos and in general about eight should be enough. So this is video number one which tests the stabilization on a cloudy day. It's not flattering uh everything is washed out and murky, pretty foggy.

There's a lot of shakiness and the exposure is a bit off. However, I also have another video which tells the stabilization this time shooting in 4k, and it's a bit better, even though there's a bit of trepidation, if you look at the ground. So if you really want to feel when moving around fork is the way I'm pretty happy with the selfie video capture, even though it's quite shaky, it's too bad, because we have a lot of details in the background and the face. Texture is pretty believable. Okay, and this is the focus test focusing on the foreground and then the background in a pretty fast and accurate manner.

And if you want to talk about colors, I would say that I focused on the second gallery, and things are, as I said before, the reds tend to feel a bit pink, so not the best calibration, and I don't feel that the image is as sharp as I've seen on the galaxy, a51 and a71 we're just between something like the Poco x3 NFC and the Samsung Galaxy, a phone and the colors feel a bit too intense for my liking. At times. This is also seen here. These are uh most times, 4k videos. I didn't stick to full HD you'll, be happy with the results, but if you've seen a Samsung phone filming a mid-range one over the past year, you know that you should expect just a bit better.

So these have been daytime videos, and this is the low light video which is a bit of a bummer there's a lot of blurriness shakiness. We have those annoying lines and the colors are very warm, so definitely not something to write home about okay. Now, it's time to discuss connectivity as far as connectivity is concerned, this handset comes in two versions: single sim and dual sim. It supports 4g LTE, as well as Wi-Fi a b g and ac. That's Wi-Fi direct there's, Bluetooth, 5.0 uh. Why also GPS glass, Galileo and NFC for your payment needs? We even have FM radio here somewhere.

Actually here it is, and aside from that, there is an USB c 2.0 port at the bottom and an audio jack at the top calls were pretty loud and clear as they are nowadays, even though people don't actually call anyone in this day and age. Okay, now I'm in the screenshots' area, because I want to show you the results we achieved with the app called speed test from UCLA and as far as the Wi-Fi is concerned, we got up to 220 mega per second in download, which is actually not bad, but also not a record breaker and uh 24.7 mega per second in the uh. Excuse me in uploads, so 220 downloads, 24.8 uploads and on 4g 193 mega per second downloads and 52.2 mega per second uploads are the max we achieved once again, not the best in the world, but for 200 250. I would say it's doing a fine job, this Motorola handset motor g9 plus. Now, if you want to talk about the software, you can basically revisit all the other reviews we've done in the past year for a Motorola phone.

This is android 10 in a stock experience. You can see that clearly this is the drop-down area with the quick settings and the notifications we're using gestures for the recent as well as the back and well at home. You can do a split screen, thingy uh, let's see what else you got the Google News feed here for the sake of security. Furthermore, you can use this fingerprint scanner in the power button, and I'm going to show you how it works. So this is the wrong finger.

This is the right finger and instantly unlocks it. You can trigger Google Assistant, with this ribbed side button Google Assistant button from here physical one aside from that the stock experience. If you keep the screen pressed, you can go to the widgets they're, all vanilla straight from Google, no modification for Motorola. The single thing that Motorola actually did here is implement the motor app with a bunch of customizations and options. So if you go here, we got personalized where you can mess with styles, wallpapers and layout, choose custom, fonts, colors, icon, shapes layouts and more than we have the gestures.

Then we have the display with options like peak display, attempted display screenshot toolkit. Some of them are supposed to replace always on display on one non OLED screen, and then we have the gaming features like game time. We have the audio effects and media controls game. Time is useful for gamers, and these are the settings it provides usually blocking annoying stuff, while you're gaming, now, aside from that, is the settings area which is stock as well with options related to connectivity, battery display, sound storage, privacy, location security or there's also face unlock, not very secure without a special sensor and digital well-being in parental control. The pre-installed apps are a straightforward affair.

It's everything that Google throws towards you. There's a calendar. There's a Google Assistant, there's chrome, we have drive docs files, there's Google fit Gmail. Google one home maps, photos news, you get the gist of it. We also have Spotify YouTube YouTube, music and Facebook, which are pre-installed as well.

So I think it's high time that we headed towards the verdict for the handset. Of course, we have pros and cons on the pro side. As I said before, there are wireless bundled headphones with this handset in some countries all over the globe. We have a big screen here, which is satisfying in videos and games. We also have a pretty solid battery life and a decent charging.

The base is well pretty good for the bottom speaker, it's a quite loudspeaker when it comes to the camera. I can easily confirm that we have some nifty colors, well calibrated colors and pretty nice details and the selfies weren't half bad. In spite of the weird resolution aspect: okay, close-ups, fast connectivity, fast, fingerprint scanner, a clean software, android 10 and those are the pros on the con side. Well, the phone is rather big and a bit slippery. The colors of the screen feel a bit washed out compared to other IPS CDs and there's a bit of distortion for the music at top volume.

The details are poor for the ultra white camera, the low light photos and videos were a bit underwhelming and video capture was a bit shaky. So those are the cons in the end. People may find this as a cheaper alternative to the huge Nokia 8.35 g. To be honest, the camera isn't that far that one has double or even triple the price, but the camera. Well, you wouldn't tell from judging by the two of them it's comfier than the Nokia 8.3 5g it's much cheaper and at the same time it delivers. Let's say similar performance, even though the CPU doesn't go as high.

So if you don't have the money for Samsung Galaxy, a71, a51 or Nokia, 8.35 g, this one may be for you. If you don't require a 5g connection, but if you want a pretty solid main camera, some nice selfies and a battery which can easily last one day and a half or even two days, this is from us json. com hope you enjoyed the review of the motor g9 plus bye, bye.
