LG V50 5G VS LG Velvet 5G - (Cameras, Gaming & Speakers) 2020-2021

All right guys in today's video we will be discussing the lg v50 versus the lg velvet. So, as we know, lg v50, I think my favorite phone of this year, um next to the g8 322 bucks brand new, and you really cannot beat the price to spec ratio on the v50. I know some of you guys are interested in the velvet as well. It has the dual screen case capability. You do only v50 as well, but this model is not compatible um but yeah. You have that uh they're, both 5g, so very similar phones.

Furthermore, you can pick the velvet up for, like 400, uh refurbished I'll put the links down below. Let's get started with the hardware, so two premium hardware designs here: it's a glass in metal design here and the velvet, I think, has the unique kind of look to it. Uh you just really it just kind of stands out. I guess the camera module just kind of looks like uh. Nothing! We've really seen before the little like wider droplet design going on here and uh yeah.

They both look really nice uh. You guys know how I feel about the 50s design. I really love it. Um, the flat camera design is super, super like slides all over the place, but I like it, it looks really elegant um. This color, you can see is super reflective as well.

It's like a mirror 1d, velvet and yeah. So we got the physical fingerprint scanner on the back lg branding, and this is the sprint version. This is the ATM t version and the velvet is a little taller and looks like it's a little thinner as well. Now we got our power button on both sides on the right side, left side, volume, rockers and a Google Assistant button on both of these guys. We've also got headphone jack, USB type-c stereo speakers on both of these guys and also the v50, has the quad deck.

The velvet does not so do note that if you're choosing, if your audio lover, uh you're automatically going with the um v50 because of the lack of the quad deck on the velvet um to me, so uh yeah, let's go ahead and get into uh both devices here all right. So, let's talk about the display, so poled 6.4 inch display on the v50 hdr10, 1440p and 538 for the PPI, the velvet. You have a poled display as well. It's a much bigger display, 6.8 inches 395 for the PPI, and it's a 1080p panel, so 1440p versus the 1080p, and you have a much higher PPI. Basically, you will be able to see text and um just icons.

A little, uh look a little sharper on the v50, but they both really look good, and you can't really tell the difference that much um again unless you're like super close up to uh the display. Here, you really kind of notice it if you're watching stuff, where you notice a lot of detail like a nature documentary, and you play it on 1440p versus 1080p, you will notice a difference. Another thing, you'll notice, is that um you have the water drop notch, a much smaller notch on the v or on the velvet, which is something that I, like. You have a much bigger notch on the v uh 50 here, but the velvet has a curved display. I know people some people don't like that and the v50 is completely flat.

So it comes down to personal preference and kind of what you want, and you have a little more. I guess bezel on uh, the uh velvet or the v50 as well. But again it comes down to what you want. So the pros and cons are you got a high-res display on here it's a flat display which a lot of people prefer, and then you have a much bigger display on here. It's a curved display, though, but you have a less intrusive notch on the velvet.

So again comes down to the personal preference, I think color wise uh. They both look really, really great and uh yeah they're, both nice and bright and vibrant. So you know two excellent displays. Lg makes some really great displays so either when you pick, you know it comes down to your personal preference, but I think they both look. Uh fantastic.

It just comes down to again uh what you want. Okay, so on the v50 you have android 10, the snapdragon 855 arena, 640 micro, SD, support 128, gigs of internal storage and six gigs of ram on the velvet. You have android 10, snapdragon, 765g, arena, 620 micro, SD support, 128, gigs of internal storage and six gigs of ram, so both have identical internal storage and ram. You have the same SD card slot. The big difference is with the processor.

So, as we can see with speed, we'll do a real world speed test before we get to the benchmark above we're going to see, the velvet is really fast, but it's until it gets to the graphic performance as well. You see the real difference, but let's go ahead and get these lined up YouTube. V50 got it there Instagram again, v50 got it there and, as you guys, can see, look at the color difference. You have like a much orange color than you have sort of like this uh sort of different color profile. Like a darker orange and again, you can adjust that with the in the screen settings.

If you want it's just something I noticed. Uh temple run p50 the velvet right behind it boom we're in ready to go, and we're in on dv50. So as you can see, a noticeable uh speed difference here, not by a ton but uh noticeable right earth boom. So as we can see almost neck and neck v50 boom and let's go ahead, and I can show you the graphic performance in pub g. But let's go ahead and get these up and going all right.

So we're in pub g and let's go ahead and get into a game. Show you guys the graphic settings and um we got in on the velvet actually first uh, but here's the thing you need to pay attention to if you're a gamer as we can see ultra HD on the v50. As you can see, and then we can only go up to HD on the velvet in high frame rates on the v50. We can do ultra HD ultra frame rates or if we go down to HDR, we can actually go to extreme, but yeah. You will be able to see uh the difference in terms of uh just slightly better graphics, and also it's just much smoother on uh the v50 as well.

So again, you know the snapdragon.855 is still very much a know: flagships uh, you know chipset here uh, but both of these phones are relatively gonna, be smooth uh for gaming. So if you're trying to game on these phones, obviously the v50 is gonna, be the better choice. But the velvet is just fine as well all right guys as we can see the benchmark scores here and uh. Of course, we get a much higher single in multi-core score, uh on the uh v50. Of course.

Here is no surprise. So let's go ahead and talk about the additional features like getting into the phone. So you have two options on the v50. You have your fingerprint scanner on the back physical. It works superfast, as we all know, and then you have your face, unlocked as well on the v50 on the velvet.

We do not have faced unlock, and we have the in display fingerprint sensor, which is not as fast as a physical one uh. But this one is not it's its fine. If you do it right, I've never had like a problem with it like struggling to open the phone uh with the vulva, not having the face unlock kind of sucks, because you know you would like to have at least two options to be able to get into your phone. I like to have that option, but you don't have that on the velvet, for you know whatever reason lg decided to not put it in there also. Both of these phones have NFC uh.

Of course, both of these phones have 5g as well. So if you live in a 5g area, these are compatible uh. You also have uh the quad deck on the vb50, like I said earlier and uh, both of these phones are IP rated, so you have ip68 dust and water resistant on both of these guys. All right. Both these guys have stereo speakers, and I know the velvet has a much bigger grille um since it's a bigger phone, so it should be louder than the v50 yeah.

So the velvet is a little louder, but they honestly sound both on par in terms of quality. I can't really tell the difference between bass and stuff like that uh, the belt would just sound louder. I don't switch it, but you guys get the point. If you're in a know a loud room, you can hear both of these phones fine. So it's not really an issue, but the velvet does have the much louder speaker here now: let's go ahead and talk about image quality, starting with the v50, so have a 12 megapixel standard, 12, megapixel telephoto in a 16 megapixel ultra-wide 4k, video, 30 or 60 fps, and then you have a dual camera setup up front on the v50, an 8, megapixel selfie and then a 5 megapixel wide that shoots in 1080p uh.

Basically, I like the v50s pictures a little more than on the velvet. I think they're a little more consistent, and I think it's because the velvet needs a software update with the camera application uh, because that one is really great, but, as you can see, v50 gives off very color accurate photos. A dynamic range is super solid depth of field. I just absolutely love taking pictures uh on this phone. It just does a really great job.

As we can see here. The front-facing camera is also very good as well, and uh. Video on the v50 is actually pretty good too. So I was really happy with the v50 video. So overall I do prefer the b50s cameras for those of you guys who are asking uh, but let's get to the velvet.

So you have a 48 megapixel standard on the velvet and eight megapixel ultra-wide in a five megapixel depth sensor, 4k video, a 16, megapixel selfie, that's used in 1080p, and the velvet also gives off some very uh very good photos as well. Again sometimes it's like a hit or miss, because I think it's like a software thing and um yeah, but it still gives off some very good photos as you can see nothing wrong with these photos at all. The uh image processing is a pretty on par with what we expect from lg. It tries to give you a very true-to-life sort of color here. Uh detail is excellent on uh the velvet as well depth of field it just uh, does a very good job, very close to the v50 uh but yeah, so excellent uh.

I think the v50s mic for the video and stuff like that is a little better than the velvets, but the velvet does do a perfect job with video as well uh, so uh overall, two excellent cameras. You really can't go wrong, but again prefer the v50 just a little more all right. So, let's talk about battery life uh, you have a 4 000 William battery on the v50 18 watt, fast charging with wireless charging. The velvet 4 300 William battery 25 watt wireless charging, so the velvet charge is much faster than the v50, which is something that I really like. You have wireless charging as well on the velvet of course um.

So basically, these phones are very similar uh in battery life. I'm guessing, I haven't done a drain test on the velvet, but it feels like the same as the v50 around that uh eight hours to eight hours and thirty minute, uh screen on time mark. So that's what I would expect from both again, if you're on 5g or if you're, using like the dual steering case uh the battery life will vary, but these are consistently all day phones, so you can go through the day all day, and you will have juice left at the end of the day on both of these phones. So what do you guys think be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
