iPhone SE 2020 Review (Recorded with iPhone SE)

Hi everyone Aaron here for Zollotech and the iPhone SE has been out for a couple of weeks at this point, and I've been using it on and off, and I had my sim card in it for a few days, and so I wanted to share my overall impressions of it and help you decide if you should pick one up now. There are a lot of good phones out there right now, and I asked you what was most important in a good phone, and so I did a poll on Twitter and what you had to say is specs and then price were the most important thing, and so, with the iPhone SE, you have the latest specs, and you have a fantastic price, and so this particular phone at 399 is an incredible buy as far as what you get internally compared to what else is out there now, the actual phone itself design wise, obviously isn't anything new, and I used it on and off for the time it's been out and used it full time for a few days as well, and it's basically like going back to an iPhone 6 or 6 s, 7 or 8. Only you have the glass back on the back of the phone, just like the iPhone 8 that allows for wireless charging, but the outside is identical. So, for example, on the right hand, side you've got your familiar sleep, wake button, followed by your sim card tray. Now. The good thing is, this is a dual sim in the sense that you have a single sim card here, and then you can use an e sim to set up another carrier as well.

On the left hand, side of the phone, you have your volume buttons, you've got your silent switch and on the top you don't have anything at all. Now on the bottom, you have your lightning port, along with your speaker and microphone, and there is no headphone jack. Now, of course, you could use wireless headphones, such as AirPods or AirPods Pro, but that's where today's sponsor comes in, where we can get headphones that are much less expensive. That may sound a lot better than AirPods. Histrionics has sponsored this video, so I could share with you their latest sound liberty 79.

These are the world's first AI noise reduction capable headphones, so they don't have active noise cancellation, but instead use AI to give you crystal clear calls up to eight hours of each earbud with a single charge and then 40 hours total using the case with USB to charge it, and then you can use either earbud. It uses Bluetooth 5.0 and has excellent sound quality and has six millimeter drivers inside I find them very comfortable. They fit in my ear nicely and last all day they come with adjustable tips as well, and they work well with anything from iPhone to android or anything else and come in at only about 50 or so now for a quick size. Comparison. Here's the second gen air pod next to the sound liberty, 79 and the sound liberty.79 do sound a little better in my use and if you'd like to get them for even less I'll leave a promo code where you can get them for just 36.99, be sure to check that out in the description below now on the back of the phone, you have. That glass, like I said before apple, has moved the logo to the middle, which is just a nice touch.

I suppose, and then we have our camera microphone and our LED flash now on the front of the phone. That's where it's a little more striking it's a little older looking since we don't have an edge to edge display. We have larger bezels with touch ID and for those that like touch ID, this is superfast. It's very convenient, in fact, I know people that prefer touch ID to face ID, and I'm sort of up in the air about it. I kind of like either one it just depends on the situation.

I think touch ID is much faster to get into the phone, but with things like passwords and things I think face ID is better, so it really just depends on what you like most now. The large bezels may be striking to some. It may seem antiquated at this point, but I don't think as many people mind, especially for the people that will purchase a phone in this price segment, so I don't think people care about that as much. They care more about price and specs. Like I said now, the front-facing display is over 300 pixels per inch, which is the most important thing resolution sort of scales with the size of the screen and is less important than pixel density.

For example, the new iPads pro everyone loves that display, but it's below 300 pixels per inch, but because you're holding it far away, you don't necessarily need a higher pixel density. The resolution scales with the size of the device and that is less relevant than the actual display and its quality and pixel density, so its viewing angles are great, and it will even play 1080p YouTube videos. So, in my YouTube video here you can see we have the option of 1080p. Now the display is closer to 720p, but the OS handles this and scales it appropriately, so that you get the most out of your display. So it's just scaling that image, whether it be 720p or 1080p, or even below that or higher than that it will scale it to fit the display and use the available pixels that it has.

So. The only complaint I would have about the display is. It may be a little too small for some people that, like larger phones such as the iPhone 11 Pro max and that's where we talk about the size a little here, because the size is perfect for some and not perfect for others. So, for example, for me the iPhone SE is a super tiny phone. Now I've used a phone this size in the past for quite some time, all the way back to the original iPhone.

But now it just feels tiny, the iPhone 11 Pro max in my hand, to give you an idea, my hands are very large, so the 11 pro max works best for me, because I can wrap my hand around it where, as I can do more than that with the iPhone SE, so it just depends on what works for you as far as the size goes, but for some this is going to be the perfect size phone for others, not as much now. Overall usability is great. The phone never feels slow. In fact, if we go back into Minecraft, I had this open before just has to reload. Here, quick since I rebooted the phone- and we can get into this nice and fast, and we'll wait for it here and there we go and once it loads you'll see it's nice and fast, and that's because it has apple's a13 bionic CPU.

So when you're playing a game like this, maybe we'll exit out go into music scroll through. Maybe we'll go back here, wait for it to resume! It will take a second to resume, and we're back in. So you really won't experience any issues as far as playing any of the most recent games running 4k, video apps. Maybe you want to export video, render video or even edit video on this smaller display. You can do that, and it will handle it with no problem now.

It does only have three gigabytes of ram and that's not really an issue, because the iPhone 10r has three gigabytes of ram. As you can see here and running CPU and GPU compute tests, it handles it. Just fine, it's superfast, and it's basically, some people are saying: maybe the CPU is scaled down, but the single core scores and multi-core scores are very close to that of the iPhone 11 Pro max and should be because it has the same CPU inside now. One thing that CPU does with its neural engine is allows for better augmented reality and better camera or photo ability, and so, for example, on the back of this, we have a typical 12 megapixel camera from the iPhone 8, but because we're using the neural engine, it's actually a much better camera in many ways. So, for example, this entire video is being recorded with an iPhone SE and just an external microphone.

So the beginning of the video was recorded just with the SC without an external mic, but this part is completely recorded with an iPhone SE, and so this should give you an idea of overall quality. Now, as far as video options we have up to 4k 60, but because we're running at 4k 30, we get a little better image because it's processing the image in real time as we're using the video camera using that neural engine to calculate all the different changes to give us the best video available, and so you do have options such as portrait mode, but it's only for people, but it will blur the background in real time. As you can see here around my face. It's blurred around the outside, and also you have portrait mode on the rear camera, but you don't have the ability to do that with objects. So, if I put the iPhone in here, you'll see it says no person detected.

If I put a person or a bobble head here, it will, it'll send a person I'll be able to snap the photo, and you'll see that it took the photo no problem. So we have that option just for people just like the iPhone 10r. Now here's a few samples of video and photo in real world just to give you an idea of what it looks like now. The speakers are quite good as well. So we'll turn this on here play my video turn it up.

This is every phone that apple currently sells new on their website. They go nice and loud, and they're, nice stereo sounding as well, so you have both a top speaker and a bottom firing speaker to give you a nice stereo, sound, they're, really quite good, and you should have really great sound from this. If you're using it just to play audio or of course you could use it with headphones, and things like that now, this phone is fantastic, but there are two things that you may want to consider when picking this up, if you're coming from an iPhone, 6s or 6s plus or one of those phones, you will no longer have 3d touch. In fact, the chipset that handles the pressure sensitivity of the display is no longer there, so you can be haptic press, and you'll still get the same options except for when you're in notifications. So if we go into a notification, if we press it's not really doing anything, sometimes it sometimes does it doesn't.

It depends on the different apps, and it may be a dealbreaker for some people. For me, it's not personally, but if you're really using 3d touch all over the place, this just doesn't have it and no modern iPhone. Has it the iPhone 11 series? Don't have it the iPhone 10r doesn't have it. So just keep that in mind. One other thing to consider is the size of the battery.

The battery in this phone is literally half the size or smaller than that of the iPhone 11 Pro max, and that's simply just due to physics, there's not enough room to put a larger battery inside the iPhone SE, since it's a smaller phone it takes up about this entire side of the phone, so it will get you through the day for most people and in fact let me show you my battery life when I used it full time here, we'll go down to battery life and the days that I used it full time. I had three hours and 32 minutes of screen on time, 33 minutes of screen off time. The next day I got two hours and 20 minutes now. This was not the entire battery. It was 50 to 75 percent, depending on which day it was so most people are getting four to five hours of screen on time, four and a half to five and a half.

It just depends on how you're using it, but you'll see. I used it pretty heavily with email and YouTube and twitter, and that was my normal battery life, and then I wirelessly charged it at night place it on the wireless charger, and it's charging. So, as you can see here, let's place it back on the charger, and now it's charging. So you have that option, which is nice, especially if you're coming from a phone that doesn't have a wireless charging capability and in general this is a great phone, especially if you like small phones for me personally, it's a little too small and the display is harder to read because of its size. But if you really like a small phone, this could be for you for me, the 11 pro max works best, but it's not any different.

As far as the experience, the only difference is, you've got triple cameras on the larger phone and a little better front facing camera. Otherwise, it's basically the same so the iPhone SE is for those people that still want a small phone but also want all the newest features so for a low price. You get. The latest chipset you've got a good camera in it and a decent microphone good speakers and just in general, it's a great phone for the price. But let me know what you think in the comments below and if you picked one up or if you'd rather have a larger phone, maybe a SE plus if they come out with that later on.

Let me know in the comments below, of course, I'll link the wallpaper in this video in the description as well. If you haven't subscribed already please subscribe, and if you enjoyed the video please give it a like, as always thanks for watching I'll see you next time. So you.
