iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 8 Plus

iPhone 7 plus vs. iPhone 8, plus that video is coming out right now, let's go so what is up guys Nick here, helping you to master your technology and welcome to the iPhone 7 plus vs. the iPhone 8 plus now I've been a daily driving, iPhone, 7 plus user for quite a long time until I just picked up the iPhone, 8 plus, and I've, been using the iPhone 8 plus for the better part of the last 72 hours or so, and I've been using it hard. So I can really give you guys a good take on what these phones are all about, because I think this video can tackle two questions. Number one should I buy the 8 plus or should I just go with the cheaper, 7 plus and number two. If you got a 7 plus, should you upgrade to the iPhone 8 plus? So, let's begin by talking about the specifications so over here on the 7 plus key specs give a 5.5 inch P 3 display this is retina. This is also 401 pixels branch at 1080p resolution, 3 gigs of ram on an 810 quad-core fusion chip and a 2900 William sealed in battery here now you also get a dual 12 megapixel camera up there with portrait mode on the iPhone 7 plus.

So this thing is loaded with features. Io's 11 also doesn't come pre-installed, but you probably, if you buy one new at Apple, you will get a pre-installed, but if you had it before, you buy a used one, you might not have iOS 11, but you can update to iOS 11 here for the iPhone 7 plus now the iPhone 7 plus weighs about 188 grams. So that's a 7 plus now, when you hear the specs of the 8 plus you're gonna, think whoa, that's pretty similar. Actually so the 8 plus is a 5.5 inch. P 3 display just like the iPhone 7 plus, although you do get true tone here on this display 12 megapixels, dual cameras.

Both are optically stabilized, though on the iPhone 8 plus, so the 7 pluses secondary lens is not optically stabilized. So that's an improvement here on the A+. The A+ gives you 3, gigs of RAM and a 26.91 William hour battery, but I find a battery life to be a little better. So far, the end of the iPhone 7 plus. So, even though it's smaller, it's actually improved due to its an 11 Bionic chip, which is also clocked at a lower clock, speed at 1.8 to gigahertz versus 2 point 3, 4 gigahertz on the iPhone 7 plus. So that's basically the key specifications right there.

Both of them have capacitive second-gen touch ID, fingerprint scanners touch ID, so you are gonna, dig that if you are in a hole, fingerprint scanner on the front security metrics, so let's get now into the body and the build of these devices. So in terms of the body in the bill, let's begin with the 7 plus, and let me talk about what's a little different here so in terms of the body in the bill, you look at both of these, and you'll immediately. Think well, those are the same, but they're actually not quite the same in terms of their actual dimensions. So the iPhone 7 plus, is actually a lighter phone. It's actually a thinner phone, it's a 7.3 millimeter phone. This is seven point: five millimeter phone, that's due to its glass a little thicker here on the A+, but that also lends to a little of more premium feel now you're, not really going to notice that thickness.

But this also has a larger or a less body screen of body ratio, meaning that the iPhone A+ is actually chunkier bigger than the iPhone 7 plus, which is what we're trying to go away from here in 2017 with the iPhone 10 as well. As you know what the galaxy series of smartphones it actually gets bigger. So if you were looking for an update in design, you're going to get a glass back, but you're not going anywhere near the all screen type of display. This actually goes a little backwards in that aspect, so they also one think you're really gonna notice is that weight 202 grams here on the iPhone 8 plus, and this thing is weighty. You can feel that this is a bulky phone right here and the iPhone 7 plus honestly just feels lighter and smoother in the hand than the 8 plus the plus feels like a heavy premium solid brick.

So if you do like that feel, you're gonna love, v8 plus it turns the body and build though the glass back on the A+ is pretty scratch resistant. It's going to be a very durable phone over the long term. Also, the camera lens that covers the camera is actually a bit more durable than the one on the 7 plus and jet. Black has been a big regret for me: I'm happy I'm, no longer using a jet black phone, and I'm using the A+, but the aluminum models were very durable as well on the 7 plus so in terms of their body in the build you're, getting pretty much identical specifications here, you're just getting a heavier bulkier phone, I think in the eye phone, eight plus, but maybe a more premium due to the glass back now one slight difference here that you are going to notice. If you pick one of these up is at the bottom.

There is writing under the iPhone logo, no writing under the iPhone logo here on the eight plus. So it's definitely a cleaner. Look. If you ask me on the newer device, okay guys so talking about displays, I mentioned them in these specs earlier, so p3 display 1080p for no one pixel's per inch, and it actually looks a little better here on the A+. It's very minor though, and if you're not a display, geek you're, not really gonna notice, but true tone, I, think everyone's going to notice.

It makes your display a little more warm a little, prettier look at it night, and I actually use an iPad Pro. So if you do like that feature true tone, you're going to love the iPhone 8 pluses display. However, it's still behind when it comes to like. If you compare this to like a galaxy phone, this for this smartphone display looks way behind in terms of its color. You know the color production, it's very, it's not as punchy as that display it's not as deep blacks.

It looks like an older display. It looks like an older technology still in the 8 plus. So the A+ is not a massive improvement over the iPhone 7, plus it's more of a copy and paste type issue. They did here, so they basically copied and pasted the old display onto the new device here, where other you know, differences reside or in some other areas of this phone, and speaking of that, let's go ahead and talk about the software now, so both do come with iOS 11, like I, say: you're, not going to get iOS 11 out of the box. If you buy this used, if you buy it at Apple, you might get iOS 11 out of the box here, but iOS 11 comes out of the box on the A+ and they're both running it.

You know quite well here the 7 plus, probably not quite as fast as the 8 plus on iOS 11, but the 8 plus is still a little twitchy I think iOS 11 across the border. At the current time of filming. This video needs an update, but overall this is gonna, be a great operating system on both devices for the future. The 10 quad-core fusion ship and the 7 plus has the stuff to run iOS for a very long time. So in terms of software, it's going to be an identical experience.

The only thing that's going to differ is the software on the camera in the portrait mode here for the iPhone 8 plus, where you get contours stage, light and stuff like this here on your camera setup. So that's a big difference for the 8 plus, but I mean if you're not doing portrait shots all the time. You're, not even going to notice that okay, guys, so I haven't even done a performance speed test between these two yeah, but we can run a little of a test here, and you're. Going to see that the way these things perform are very similar. Now the iPhone A+ gets monster, Geek bench scores which will crush the iPhone 7 plus, and if you do, video, rendering and stuff like that, you are gonna notice, a difference there when you're doing that stuff, but I, don't know how many people are actually doing stuff.

That's really pushing the 10 or even the 11 chipset to its full potential. So what I mean by that is day to day running through these tasks? It's about the same experience in literally coming from a 7 plus to an A plus, unless I'm doing the side-by-side and I see a millisecond of a difference. We're not seeing any difference really in performance day to day so don't get an 8 + thinking that oh I got the 11 Bionic. My phone is gonna, be so much faster than the 7 plus of last year, because in all actuality in reality it's not oh yeah. The 11 Bionic definitely is gonna, probably support future versions of iOS 11 better.

But at the current point, as it stands, right now is the filming of this video. No, it's not that much different. It runs about the same as any other iPhone, that's running like an 9 CPU and above unless, of course, you're going to render out 4k videos at 60 frames per second, which just got released on the 8 plus I. Don't think you're going to see much of a difference. Game.

Ii might load slightly faster but, like I say coming from the 7 plus using a day to day, I noticed absolutely zero difference in my day-to-day life using both of these okay guys. So, let's take a second to talk about the battery life on both of these phones, so the iPhone 7 plus, has always been a stellar battery. Smartphone phone and I really never had an issue with it at all. You know the only issue I had with the 7 plus was its charge times extremely slow and no wireless charging which the iPhone 8 plus improves on it gives a little faster charging and definitely wireless charging, but the iPhone 7 plus, if you topped it off overnight, you're easily going to make it through a day it had stellar battery life for the 2900 William hour, and it's very optimized and very efficient 810 fusion chips, which still will crush most Android phones on the market. Right now so battery life on the 7 plus, even if you buy one today, is fantastic.

It's not going to be an issue. Just remember: you're going to have to take a while to charge here now the A+ shocked me because it goes down in the battery capacity size to a 26, ninety-one milliamp-hour, but I'm, finding myself to get even better battery life on these eight plus than the seven plus. So it's kind of you know that goes to show that Apple is really killing it when they come to optimizing their processors and being efficient with how they're running their newer phones, because if you can put a smaller battery and get similar, if not slightly better battery life, then the older phone plus, you add wireless charging, and you add a slightly faster charging. You did something right, so the battery life on the A+ is stellar I. Think I did like 3 hours, 26 minutes, and I was at 50%, so we were looking at 6 6 and a half, maybe 7 hours on screen time with the 8 plus, if you're not pounding on it.

You know downloading a ton of apps and just using it full brightness to the max location, then you're, looking at maybe 4 or 5 hours, but overall it's a stellar battery life on the A+ better than the 7 plus, but if you're buying a 7 plus now you're not gonna, be disappointed. This is also stellar. Battery life, I would say, probably about a 10 to 20 percent improvement in battery life on the 8 plus, ok guys. So, let's get into the camera in the video section. So I haven't done a proper camera comparison between these two which I am working on, but I do have enough use between both of them.

To give you my first impressions and my first impressions are the dual camera setup on the iPhone.7 plus was already amazing. It was already fantastic and just regular day-to-day picks. It seems like the iPhone 8 plus, is doing a better job of bringing in more light. So if you want to bring in more light, the iPhone 8 plus is going to do a great job at that the glass is a little clearer. So the pictures turn out a little better on the iPhone 8 plus, but the iPhone 7 plus also a stellar camera portrait mode is crushing the 7 plus on the 8 plus.

So if you do utilize, the new portrait, camera mode, you're gonna, get tons of new features and I find them to be very efficient and accurate, and I thought that Note 8 was the best camera on the market. But this one is gonna, give it quite the competition here, because I think it's damn near close, if not maybe a little better than the note 8 camerae, and this also includes 4k 60 on the video function. So if you do video you're going to get an improvement here as well. You can see I have it on 4k 60 right there on the A+, so the A+ I think is a good improvement in camera. So if you're you're getting one of these phones, and you're looking for the best camera, just skip the seven plus and go to the eight plus.

Now, if you have a seven plus, and you're going to the eighth plus thinking you're going to get a massive improvement in camera, I think you might want to wait till the ten just pick up the ten with the new design and get the new camera with the 4k and all those features that you've seen here on the 8 plus. It's going to have them too so or just wait a year, because the iPhone 7 plus still is in the top. You know five best. Camera phones on the market right now so 8 plus improves. But again it might be an incremental improvement.

I would say it's a big improvement just do for videographers. So if you do video, it's a big improvement, but if you're just doing photography, you could probably hold off a little on this one. However, if you are choosing between these keep photography in mind, the A+ is gonna, be your choice. If you are choosing between these and I, think it's worth the extra cost of like a hundred dollars more to get the 8 plus what it's better photography. Ok, I want to take a second to talk about storage tears between these two.

So if you buy the iPhone 7 plus right now, you're looking at 669 for the 32 gig, which is quite a bit of money for a 32 gigabyte, smartphone go up to 6a 769 you're, looking at 128 gigs, which is the model I have right here and that's the model I would go with faster storage than that 32 gig it's speedier, and it has you're, never going to run out of storage at 769. Now at $7.99 you begin the pricing for the 8 plus, so you're. Only looking at like 30 bucks more here for an iPhone, 8 plus, which is gonna, give you all those other improvements. I already talked about in this video, so I think you should just skip the iPhone 7 plus and go with the entry-level 64 gig 8, plus. If you're going to go with a 128, gig 7 plus, why not just pay the extra 30 bucks and have the 8 plus it's worth it to me.

Those incremental updates are worth 30 bucks. If you ask me, because those incremental updates over time are going to be larger updates, when the future of iOS keeps getting updated and AR comes, and you got the 11 Bionic, it's going to be worth it in the future. Right now, like I, say, speed is about the same, but at that price point this storage, tears, you're going to have to go up to 950 dollars to get 256 gigs. Now, if you want 256 years, if you want more storage on your 8 plus and 64 is just too low, the 7 plus might be a good option, because I think that 256 gig at 950 is a little pushing it on the iPhone 8 plus. Unless this is the phone you're just gonna keep for a very time, then that might be an option, but that's getting really near the Galaxy Note 8 price, which I think is a better phone overall than the eight plus.

But we're not talking about that phone here. But those are the storage tiers between these two okay, guys in terms of gaming, the iPhone, 8 plus actually loads games, just slightly faster you're gonna, see right here. Maybe not, though, because the iPhone 7 plus keeps up on certain things so you've seen right there, the iPhone E Plus was faster. So it's GPU, built in-house by Apple, is a better GPU than the one over here on the iPhone 7 plus so gaming, a little better there on the A+, I, finally plus to stay a little cooler under heavy use. To so again it's getting more efficient cooler use under heavy use on the A+.

The iPhone 7 plus was a stunner when it comes to audio, but the iPhone 8 plus is supposed to improve on that. So let's go ahead and check this out. Let's go to one of my videos and let's go ahead to should you buy iPhone, 8 plus or galaxy is plus video I did yesterday and let this ad run- and you could already hear those speakers are plenty loud. So the iPhone 7 plus fires from up here and down here, as does the 8 plus. So, let's go ahead and check out that audio performance here for the iPhone 8 plus now so we're going to grab the 8 plus, so I can already hear that it's definitely about a 20% improvement over the 7 plus, but both of these are going to get plenty loud when it comes to audio.

So if you do like audio on your phone, I do think the 8 plus is the one. You should look at a little more, but I do think. Both of these are better than most smartphones on the market, because they do have stereo speakers not as good as boom sound on HTC back in the day, but still they're, perfect here for the iPhone 8 plus, specifically. So if your audio head you're going to want to go with the 8 plus, although both of these do cut out the headphone jack, which I think has been super controversial and a pain. If you ask me, they shouldn't do this early I think they should have waited a little while on that, but it is what it is there on the headphone jack.

So in terms of calling between these two devices I find that both of them are pretty good. I think the iPhone 8 plus has a little better call quality, though am I testing I did have you no caller saying they couldn't hear me that well on the seven plus from time to time, whereas I haven't had to heard that yet on the iPhone, eight plus, so the eight plus seems to be improving on the car quality just a little and the speakerphone quality because of the louder audio is a better deal here.48 plus so again, VA plus is going to win slightly in the phone call, but it's not a huge deal. Okay guys. So, let's wrap this up here. I think we covered everything we need to cover between the iPhone 7 plus in the iPhone 8 plus you're, probably noticing throughout this video wow.

Those phones are basically the same. Why not just save some money and get the iPhone 7 plus, and you wouldn't be wrong in making that decision. I think that would be actually a pretty smart decision here. I think the only one people who really should buy the iPhone 8 plus are frequent upgrades people who love you, know tech. They want to keep on the latest and greatest, but they don't want to pay $1,000 per phone.

Also, I think if you are coming from an older, you know iPhone 6s 5s, you know iPhone, 6, and you're, ready to you know, jump to the dual camera. You want the newer, chipsets and stuff like that, and you're going to pay top dollar any we're going to buy it new at the Apple Store just skip to 7 plus pay a little more money and get the better phone here, which is obviously the iPhone 8 plus. Now, if you're somebody who you know you've been waiting for the price to come down on the iPhone 7 plus you want to get it now skip going to the Apple Store look for it online! You somewhere, it's gonna, be a great deal on her 7 plus, so I. Think right now the iPhone 8 plus doesn't do enough to justify an upgrade over these seven plus, but I do think it does enough to become the best smartphone in Apple's lineup if you are coming from something older than the iPhone 6s series. So that's pretty much my take on them here, but overall, like I said, if you got a 7 plus skip this one out, you will thank me later, or you'll thank yourself later, because you'll realize, after playing with it a few times in the Apple Store, this is pretty much the same phone, and what's the novelty of the glass wears off you're getting back into the similar iPhone experience? It's not a radical departure like you would see on the Galaxy S7 versus the Galaxy S8, for example.

Anyway, this is Nick here, helping you to master your technology. If you found this video helpful enjoyable, do me a favor click, the like button for me, if you know somebody who's trying to make this decision share this video with them. This should help them, but, and we will be covering the iPhone 10 on the channel, so you might want to consider subscribing if you are new here, and they care up and you to master your technology, I will catch you all in the next one be sure to be well and pays.
