iPhone 7 Plus In LATE 2020! (Still Worth It?) (Review)

Welcome back everyone time to do another worth it video. I guess I haven't called it that in a while, but a late, 2020 review of a phone at that I personally love. I use this phone for a very long time, for you know my standards and I actually have a lot of respect for this phone now. Not a lot of things have happened with the iPhone 7 plus since, like even my early 2020 review, but I have done a mid 2020 review of this device, but we have seen some new work. You know improvements in certain aspects of these devices, we've gotten a new full official version of software. Last time I reviewed it.

We had that beta. So now we have iOS 14 in its full form. On top of that, we still have these new iPhones coming out too, which that is pretty impressive and weirdly enough. This was the second to the last plus iPhone that we had the one. Before this we had the iPhone 8 plus where they went after it was the iPhone 8 plus and that one is not available for sale anymore.

You can pick it up in the used market, but when it comes down to the bigger iPhones that were the plus models, really only d7 plus is only you know, one generation old, if you think about it, even though this phone came out in 2016. , so it's four years old, and you know when you look at it. This is the biggest thing that I always tell people visually like yeah. This thing doesn't look like the best looking phone anymore, and I think that's expected. You know you have that 5.5 inch display which at the time was big, but you know since then screens have gotten bigger and bigger, but in smaller bodies. So you have that home button on the front that I'm actually kind of okay with I really don't care too much.

You have that fingerprint sensor, which I really do like, and what I can tell you is that the panel on this device still is pretty decent. It's 1080p, but it's not like a bad 1080p display, we've seen throughout our whole entire life, and I want to say one thing too: if you think about it, the iPhone SC 2020 that just came out. That thing has a 4.7 inch display and that was released in 2020. That was pretty much recycling, the same exact body as the iPhone 6, and that's a really, really important thing to keep in mind. Now.

Obviously, I'm not saying that this you know phone screen is the best or that is the pinnacle or anything. That's not the case at all, but that's still a very important thing to keep in mind that this display on this device is better than one that apple just released. You know not too long ago. So I'll definitely tell you when it comes down to that aspect, you're, probably not going to notice that big of a difference or even have that big of a deal. In my opinion, the phone, you know still performs pretty well, it still looks pretty good.

So I think, in terms of that, I don't think really too many people are going to care too much. Now you have a lightning port on the bottom. This was actually the first iPhone this in the iPhone 7 were the first iPhones to not bring that headphone jack anymore, which was pretty interesting and on the back, you have a couple of different versions of this phone, so you have that textured aluminum back that I think, like 95, of people who bought the iPhone, 7 plus or even the iPhone 7. They have this specific version, the kind of textured aluminum back, but there were some that had that jet black version when I owned the iPhone 7 plus as my main device. I had that jet black version- and that was probably one of my favorite iPhones ever that was seriously something that felt perfect in the hands.

It was a very, very good glass alternative and I really do miss that, and I guess these that I have now is perfectly okay too, but that's one thing I always miss, and you have that dual camera setup up top and what I can tell you about this camera setup. First, this was the first iPhone to bring a dual camera setup and that in and of itself was pretty impressive. You have two 12 megapixel sensors, a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens. Now, what's really cool about these cameras? Is that since then, really the only time we've seen any additional camera sensors? After you know, a dual camera setup was in 2019 when the iPhone 11 pros came out other than that we've always had dual camera setup since the seven plus for the top tier models- and I think that's a very important thing to keep in mind. You know it's not like.

We have had quadruple, and you know six camera sensors, like all these other phones had for iPhones. You know, we've only had you know triple camera setups. Now we might have four in the next iPhone, but this dual camera setup. You know if you're taking photos of your family and if you're, going day to day or whatever, and you're just like taking snap chats and stuff like this camera will definitely get the job done now. I've done a lot of camera comparisons throughout my life, and what I can tell you is that the biggest differences that I can see is basically the noise in the photos and the graininess in these photos usually goes down as you get higher on the tier list.

So if you get an iPhone 11 Pro, those photos are going to look a way nicer, and they're going to have way less noise and grain than looking at an iPhone, 7 plus photos. But if you're not looking at them side by side and if you're not trying to actively go out- and you know, take photography like photos on this phone, then I think you're going to be okay for the most part. Now, a perfect thing about the iPhone 7 plus is that you do have the ability of shooting 4k at 30, which is something I really do like me. Personally, I don't really like film 4k 30 too often, but it is something that I always kind of look at in videos, especially for cameras that came out around this time. I would definitely say, after about the 2018 timeframe, if you're not racking, 4k 60, then it's probably not really a good camera, but even 4k 30.

Here, I think, is okay for the most part, so camera wise. I think it's a good sensor. I think it's better than you actually might think, but it's not like the best camera at all. Not at all. You have a 7 megapixel camera on the front.

You can do 1080p at 30. And you know it does more. At the same I mean it's taking perfect Snapchat photos if you're trying to go day to day doing that if you're trying to make tick, took, videos and stuff, like I think, you'll- be okay for the most part, but just don't expect you know if you're trying to go and do you know photography like photos and do crazy videos and stuff like maybe you will be able to do it. Maybe you won't, but upgrading your camera may be a better choice. Now, really cool thing is with the iOS 14.

We actually got some improvements with the camera. You know we actually have some features in the photos' app, but we now have the ability of changing our camera resolution if we have the ability to on our iPhones that support iOS 14, which is really, really cool, and on top of that iOS 14 has actually brought a lot of cool features, which I'm really happy about a question that I see all the time, though, is you know how long will the iPhone 7 plus last- and you know I don't- have the answers. I can only assume- and I would probably say that the iPhone 7 plus will probably end up getting like iOS 15 and ending there if we're lucky, maybe it'll go more. Maybe it'll stop at iOS 14 who knows, but if I had to guess I would probably say that iOS 15 may be the ending point of the iPhone 7 plus, which I think is a decent spot for it to end at as long as it can get through. Io's 14 perfectly fine.

I hope there's not a lot of issues on the back end. I've been experiencing some issues here and there it hasn't been like a crazy deal, but I would definitely tell you that it is something to kind of keep in mind at the end of the day. You know stability comes and goes, but if you can find a phone, you know that is kind of on the newer end. It'll definitely get more software. You know versions, thus making it a little more stable in the long run.

If there's an issue with iOS 14.2, there may be an update with iOS 14.3, who knows so. This thing will probably end up being good for the most part later down the line, even if it's not stable right now. So in terms of the software cycle and the software experience, I think that really pretty much covers it up and the performance side on iOS 14 has actually been pretty decent on the iPhone 7 plus as well. This thing has the Apple A10 fusion chip, which is pretty good, and it has three gigs of ram, and this is actually the first iPhone to bring three gags over him. Believe it or not- and I always forget about that because even with the se2 for example, that thing still has three gigs of ram.

So these iOS devices do a really, really good job at managing their ram, while not having a ton of ram to spare and, like I said before, that's a very impressive thing that apple was able to do with all of their iOS devices. For the most part. Now with the iPhone 7 plus, a really important thing to keep in mind. Is that you're not going to get? You know iPhone 11 Pro type of speeds? You know you're going to get very good speeds for the most part, but you're not going to feel like you have the fastest phone in the world. But the good thing is: is that you're not going to feel like you have an extremely slow device either a really, really good thing about the iPhone 7 plus? Is that, like I said before, it manages its performance and its chipsets inside it extremely well? We've had the iPad last year, the iPad 7th generation that had the Apple A10 fusion chip inside we had the iPod touch 7gen that had the Apple A10 fusion chip.

So I think, for the most part, it's a good chip apple wouldn't keep using it if it wasn't a good chip- and I think, for the most part, if you have the iPhone 7 plus performance, wise you're, probably going to be okay, I would probably tell you're going to be on the better side of things. It's not going to be the fastest thing in the world, but iOS 14 really didn't affect this performance like crazy. It may have affected a little, but nothing too insane, in my opinion, so in terms of performance that pretty much covers it up now, ending it off with a battery life. This thing has a 2000 900 million power battery and, like I said before, I mean that is a pretty decent sized battery to have on this device. It's not an extremely new device.

Unfortunately, so you may see some battery depreciation some battery degradation over time, but I would definitely tell you know those things are minor. It's going to come and go, I think, over time and throughout life you're, probably going to have a pretty decent battery life. I know when I had this device. I actually had pretty good battery life on this phone. Surprisingly, so I think in terms of battery life that really pretty much covers it up too now to kind of sum up this video and to answer the question is the iPhone 7 plus still worth it in the later part of 2020? I mean I can probably tell you that, if you're on a budget or even if you're, not on a budget like if you're trying to find the best priced phone, I think the 7 plus is a decent start, but I still feel like if you have a little more money to go.

If you have a little more weight in your budget, I feel like the best way you can go is getting an iPhone 8 plus, I feel like that phone is substantially better than the 7 plus in a lot of different ways. Sure it has a smaller battery size, but I feel like the improvements and the body and improvements with wireless charging, as well as the chipsets and software updates, and all that you're, probably going to be getting a better experience on the iPhone 8 plus, but the 7 plus still has a lot of going for it too. You have a pretty good, build quality. It doesn't cost a lot of money to buy this phone. You're still supported with iOS performance is pretty decent.

You have, you know pretty good screen, it's not OLED, but it gets the job done and, like I said before, I think for the majority of people out there you're going to have a pretty good experience when it comes down to this device. Now is it the best iPhone? You can pick up for the price? Absolutely not like. I stated I think the 8 plus would probably be a better way to go. Maybe even getting an iPhone 10 would probably be the top tier iPhone. I would recommend for the price per value.

That is a really, really good sweet spot. There's, not a lot of things that can go wrong with getting a 7 plus, but also like I said before. If you have an extra 150 to 200 to spend getting an iPhone, 8 plus or better yet an iPhone 10 would probably be a better way to go on top of that. But you still have IP certification on the 7 plus you still have force touch. You still have a pretty good camera setup, and you have pretty good battery life too.

So it's a well-rounded device, if you're getting it from someone or if you can find one for extremely cheap, then by all means go for it, but, like I said I would probably still recommend picking up an iPhone, 8 plus or iPhone 10 at the long point of it.
