Hi there, my name is Sam from words. com and welcome to a new comparison, video between the Apple iPhone 12 and the Samsung Galaxy s21. We are comparing both phones in terms of display performance, camera design and battery stay tuned and find out which phone is, in our opinion, the better phone before going ahead and start this comparison, we would like to remind you that we are still doing the big Samsung Galaxy giveaway for more details watch until the end of this video. Let's start straight away with our review. Let the facts speak display the Samsung Galaxy s21 has a 6.2 inch display with a 1080p resolution. It is fitted with an odd screen which does a perfect job.
The s21 measures, 15.75 centimeter diagonally, with a pixel density of 421 PPI. The display has an impressive 120 hertz, refresh rate with a full HD resolution, and it is downgrading the rate when a high rate is not needed to reduce power, consumption, 120 hertz, even on the basic version of the galaxy s21, pretty good. Let's now have a look at the iPhone. The iPhone 12 has a 6.1 inch display with a 1170p resolution. The 6.1 inch display, therefore, measures 15.49, centimeter diagonally, with a pixel density of 460 PPI. The iPhone's ultra screen as usual, creates very natural colors.
The iPhone's refresh rate is 60 hertz, okay, so the Samsung has a slightly bigger screen, but the iPhone comes with a higher resolution. The pixel density on the iPhone 12 is also higher, so we were close to giving the iPhone the point, but the fact that apple decided against the 120hz refresh rate on its newest version made us count this as a draw. In our opinion, it is too crucial and a must-have feature in 2021 camera. The Samsung Galaxy s21 has three main cameras: an ultrawide with 12 megapixels, a wide angle with 12 megapixels and a telephoto camera with 64 megapixels. The front camera's resolution is 10 megapixels, the Samsung Galaxy s21 records 8k videos at a maximum of 24 frames per second, and of course it has image.
Stabilization for video sounds like a well-rounded. Camera system will be interesting to see how the pictures come out. Next up the iPhone. The iPhone 12 features. A dual main camera system, a 12, megapixel ultrawide and a 12 megapixel wide camera.
The front camera's resolution is also 12 megapixels, the iPhone 12 records, 4k videos at a maximum of 60 frames and, of course it has image stabilization for video. Both phones have good camera systems, but which one is actually the better system. Let's take it to our camera test and, let's find out which one does a better job. First, the daylight pictures at first the iPhone's picture is brighter and seems to have more contrast. Still.
Both pictures look really sharp, with lots of details and good color rendering when cropping in, though we noticed that the iPhone has a little more grain, but its colors look punchier and the s21 is slightly softer. There are also weird camera compression flares around the contours and the picture of the s21. Both phones have problems when it comes to taking nighttime pictures. The iPhone has tons of grain and the white balance gets a yellow touch. The s21 doesn't have as much grain, and it seems as if it has a noise reduction filter to smooth out the grain which doesn't make the picture necessarily better.
The color temperature is the upper side of its competitor. It has a way cooler touch in the case of the front camera. Both cameras take equally sharp images. The major difference here is that the s21 is a bit brighter, while the iPhone seems more natural, the s21 has a three-fold, hybrid optic, zoom and a 30-volt digital zoom. The iPhone 12, on the other hand, only has a two-fold optical and a 5-volt digital zoom, okay, so thoughts are good.
Now, let's switch from photo feature to the video feature to find out which of these two phones takes better videos. What you see- and here is the quality of the Samsung Galaxy s21 video recording. We set it to the highest possible quality. Let's see what the competitor sounds and looks like what you see and here's the quality of the Apple iPhone 12 video recording. We set it to the highest possible quality.
Let's see what the competitor sounds and looks like. So in terms of sound quality, both perform really well, although the iPhone sounds a bit better in terms of video quality. On the other hand, this is hardly a duel. The iPhone is a lot sharper and creates more natural, colors and contours. The galaxy is just way too bright and absolutely grainy.
The s21 is capable of recording a 8k, but that would have been too cropped in. So we decided to do the video comparison on both in 4k, let's crop in a bit in post, to see how that looks like, as you can see, both look blurry when cropped in, but the iPhone is a lot sharper and has less grain. The galaxy is just a complete mess and overly pixelated. Both phones are able to shoot slow motion videos with up to 240 frames per second in full HD mode, but the Samsung was also capable of 960 frames per second and 720p mode. Both phones take excellent pictures with good details and definition, but overall we think that the iPhone's camera takes the win in this comparison.
It's not that the galaxy came out way worse. It's just that. The iPhone whole package is better than the galaxies. That is why the iPhone gets a point in this comparison, but if you are looking for a mid-range smartphone and the zoom feature is really important to you, then the galaxy s21 might be better suited for your performance. The iPhone 12 is equipped with apple's latest a14 bionic chip, the phone has 4 gigabyte ram and the individual models offer different storage capacities.64, 128 and 256 gigabyte are available. Storage capacity unfortunately cannot be expanded as it is typical for Apple iPhone devices.
Apple's newer ship sounds perfect. Only 4 gigabyte ram not so much. Let's see how the galaxy is encrypted. This Samsung Galaxy s21 model uses also the Samsung CNS 2100 chips with the new 5 nanometer process technology. The phone has 8 gigabyte ram and the individual models offer different storage capacities.
A 128 gigabyte and a 256 gigabyte are available. The storage capacity can unfortunately, not be expanded anymore. So apple's newest in-house ship versus Samsung's latest processor who's going to come out on top in this battle of giants. Let's take them into the entity benchmark test and the geek bench 5 test and find out. The tests are divided into three phases: a performance test of the ram, a test of how the device is handling, two-dimensional, graphics and an endurance test of how the device is handling 3d, graphics.
The second test is from geek bench. This app will measure the performance of our smartphones in terms of CPU and GPU, so the galaxy did very well in the intuitive benchmark test, but the iPhone was able to come out on top in both geek bench test categories. The big difference in this test results here were a bit surprising to us, since the Samsung doubles the iPhone's ram, so good job on apple side and a point for the iPhone design. The iPhone 12 has a matte aluminum frame and a glass finish on the back. Typically, for apple, it has a very high end.
Look to it. The dual cameras are well positioned in the upper left corner on the back of the phone. The smartphone weighs 164 gram, it uses apple's, lightning connector, and it is ip68 rated. So it's water and dust resistant. It is also four times more drop resistant due to apple's new heroic shield material.
The iPhone uses face recognition technology to unlock the phone, the face ID works perfect at daylight, and also good in a weak light environment, so apple decided to make the iPhone even more robust. This screams, like a drought test to me, the Samsung Galaxy s21, has a clean design with a matte finish. The turbo camera system is, as usual, in the upper left corner on the back of the phone, but the bump is more integrated to the rest of the phone. It looks as if the frame is wrapped around the upper left corner of the back. The bump itself sticks out of the phone again, which makes that corner, even though more integrated on the same level, less integrated, the smartphone weighs 169 gram.
It has an USB connector and thanks to an ip68 rating, it is also water and dust resistant. The s21 uses face recognition, technology and a fingerprint scanner which is built into the screen to unlock the phone. It also has the improved, faster and bigger fingerprint scanner up front. You have to say that both phones look perfect and also feel comfortable when holding they also, both don't have curved screens which were so popular on older phones. That is definitely a plus.
Besides that there are not many similarities, while Samsung decided to go for the hole punch nuts in their display apple went with a traditional notch. If you ask us what looks better, we can't really take a stand here, even though we would have preferred if the galaxy's camera notch was on the left corner instead of white in the middle, going forward to the side parts of the phone we see, apple's new design feature flat. Edges apple, usually changes only small parts of the design from generation to generation. The flat edges are in terms of apple's way to change things, a huge step. Moving forward to the back perspective, we like the new camera bump design of the galaxy.
It feels more integrated now, even though it could still be a bit more flat. Speaking about the material, the galaxy features, a matte metal look plastic, while the iPhone is equipped with a glass back here. The iPhone has the upper hand as it feels and looks more premium, even though we have to say that we still prefer Samsung's matte. Look. They really did a good job in creating a high class look with less valuable materials.
In the end, everything in this category, as always, comes down to opinion and since our spur split, we like to call this a draw. Tell us in the comments what your opinion on this matter is: do you prefer the iPhone or do you like? The galaxy's look more battery the Samsung Galaxy s21 when fully charged has 4 thousand William hours? The iPhone 12, on the other hand, has 2815 William hours when fully charged. The galaxy clearly has a bigger battery and should therefore last longer, let's take a look at a battery drain test to find out. If that's true, so the results were pretty close, which is pretty surprising, considering the iPhone small battery in the end, the Samsung had the upper hand, though lasting 30 minutes longer than the iPhone. Both phones have fast charging and fast wireless charging capabilities, but only the galaxy features reverse wireless charging.
This and the fact that it was able to last longer made its curl the point in this category. Let's count the points. The first category was very close. The iPhone had better oval stats, but the lag of 120 hertz, refresh rate was a deciding factor to count this as a draw performance wise.
The iPhone had the upper hand outperforming the galaxy in two to one benchmark categories in terms of camera. The s21 has a great system, but we decided that the iPhone has the overall better camera. In this comparison. The fourth point was fiercely contested again in the end, both phones feature a high-end design and none really had the upper hand, so we decided on a draw again, last but not least, battery life. Here the Samsung due to its bigger battery, was able to last longer, while also featuring worse wireless charging, which the iPhone doesn't so point for the galaxy okay.
So all in all four points on iPhone side and three points on galaxy site, it was close, but the iPhone 12 won this comparison. Naturally, we review more than these five categories covered here.
