iPhone 12 Mini vs iPhone SE (2020) - which small iPhone is best?

Apple threw us a curveball. This year they introduced the iPhone 12 mini a smaller version of the iPhone 12. This is the first time. Apple has released a mini iPhone. What's really strange about, it is the same year. They released the new iPhone SE, whether you're trying to decide between the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone SE for yourself or you're looking to get it as a gift for one of your friends or family members.

It's super important to understand all the differences between these two phones. There is a lot of them: hey guys, how's it going like reaching out. Also, bye give them. My name is maniacal basing. If you're new around here, I post videos every single week about tech and how to use tech to improve your life today, I'll be doing a deep dive comparison between the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone SE.

So first things. First, let's talk about the display on both these phones. The iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4 inch OLED display, whereas the iPhone SE has a 4.7 inch lcd. What exactly does all this mean? The OLED screen on the iPhone 12 mini is the same OLED technology being used on the higher end iPhones, it's a much better technology, better blacks, deeper contrast, it'll, just look a lot nicer. You also have things like HDR support.

You won't get any of that on the iPhone SE, but on top of that, what really blew me away is the iPhone.12 mini has a bigger screen than the iPhone SE, but the phone is smaller and every single dimension of the iPhone 12 mini the height, the width, the depth. Even the weight of the phone is lighter and the phone itself is smaller, but the screen size is almost an inch bigger compared to the SC. How is that possible? It's actually really simple. The iPhone 12 mini does not have those giant bezels compared to the iPhone SC. It also doesn't have a home button compared to the SC on the 12 minute, you'll be using face ID instead of touch ID now.

Obviously, this is not new or anything like that. Apple has been making phones without the touch I'd button now for quite a while, but that SE model has always been there for those customers who prefer having a fingerprint sensor as well as a physical home button, but in my opinion, sacrificing that bezel and that home button for a bigger screen is always worth it now. Putting the displays aside, the next biggest difference, you're gonna, see between these two phones are the cameras, starting with the iPhone SC all you're going to get on the back of the phone. Is that one primary 12 megapixel camera? This is the only phone apple is currently shipping, with only one camera. On the back on the iPhone 12 mini, you get two cameras: the primary camera, as well as the ultra-wide camera.

Having that ultra-wide camera is super helpful for those wide angle shots. However, even the primary camera on the 12 mini has been upgraded, you're, getting a 1.6 aperture compared to the 1.8 on the iPhone SC. What this really means is better low light performance and also better depth of field. For that blurry background feeling in normal pictures and taking it one step further, the iPhone 12 mini supports night mode and the iPhone SE does not. That by itself is a huge game.

Changer in terms of video recording the iPhone 12 mini, has the Dolby Vision, HDR recording, which is a new feature that all the new iPhone 12s have, and you also get night mode time lapses. Besides that, though, the video recording features on both the iPhone 12 mini and the SE are exactly the same. You get 4k 60 fps recording on both phones. Now, when it comes to the front-facing camera, though, things are a little different, the iPhone SC only has a 7 megapixel front-facing camera, where the 12 mini has a 12, megapixel front-facing camera on the 12-minute. You can also shoot 4k 60fps through the front-facing camera, which is absolutely insane, and you also get things like night mode and slow motion, video recording, all of which are not available on the SC model.

Now, with that being said, the SC does have all the core functions. You would expect on an iPhone. It still has portrait mode, and it still has full HD video recording on both cameras that by itself is still a very good camera. Moving on from the camera, the next biggest difference, you're gonna, see between these two phones is performance. The iPhone 12 mini has the a14 bionic chip, where the SC only has the a13 chip from last year.

This is not the biggest difference in the world, but you will see small improvements with things like opening up apps navigating around your phone, the general responsiveness of the phone be quicker and snappier on the 12 mini compared to the SE. One notable thing, though, is the 12 mini: has that better processor, which means it has better battery life as well, that better processor adds two additional hours of battery life compared to the SC 15 hours versus 13 hours? Now, on top of all that, the iPhone 12 mini has a bunch of other upgrades things like 5g support, MagSafe charging support a ceramic display to help protect your phone from cracks and even better water resistance. At the same time, though, the iPhone SC is the budget phone, and it still has awesome features like regular wireless charging, support and dual sim support with ENIM. Both of these phones are very solid options: they're both on the affordable side of apple's spectrum. Right now for pricing, the iPhone SE starts at 399 and the iPhone 12 mini starts at 6.99, a 300 difference between these two phones. In my personal opinion, I do feel it's worth.300 bucks upgrade to the iPhone 12 mini you're, getting so much more bang for your buck, and it's actually the same exact phone as the iPhone 12, just a smaller form factor in a cheaper price, and if you look at the spec sheet between all the phones right now, the 12 mini and the 12 are exactly the same, and the difference between the 12 and the 12 pro are very, very little you're, basically getting a pro phone in the 12 mini package and price point. The iPhone SE is still a very good option.

It's very affordable, and it works very well for anyone. Looking for a very basic iPhone, I gave the iPhone SE to my grandma earlier this year. It's very similar to her older, iPhone and she's been loving it. However, if the iPhone 12 mini was out earlier this year, I would have gotten my grandma, the iPhone 12 mini. I think it's a much more future-proof device compared to the SE model.

You're going to get a few more years out of this iPhone 12 mini compared to the SC in terms of technology being outdated. I hope you guys found this video useful if any questions didn't answer in this video leave in the comments down below I'll get back to you as soon as I can and also be sure, to check out my full review of the iPhone 12 Pro.
