iPhone 12 - A Few Months Later

Hi, everyone. Aaron here for Zollotech and the iPhone 12 has been out for a few months and I wanted to share my overall thoughts about it after these past few months, as well as durability battery life and more. And if you'd like to jump to any specific point in the video where I talk about different subjects, you may be interested in I've linked the time codes in the description like I normally do. Now, the first thing is it's overall price. Now this is fairly expensive. If you don't get any deals from Apple or your carrier.

So it comes in at $799 goes up to eight, $949. But the sweet spot is in the middle at eight 49 for eight 49, you get 128 gigabytes of storage. And that's what I would recommend. If you're picking one of these up that way, you usually will have enough storage more than enough compared to what I've seen. People use.

Some people may need more. And if you do, you can step up to that two 56, but I think one 28 is the sweet spot. Also this year with the iPhone 12, it may be the best phone in 2021 due to its overall size redesigned cameras and more. And so this particular phone, as you can see is blue, but it does come in a few different variants. You've got that black, white, blue, green, and product red as far as the color availability.

But I think this nice blue color is really pretty stunning. You're striking this year and you can see there's a lot of fingerprints on the back. Unfortunately, we don't get the matte finish, the 12 pro max or the 12 pro gets, but we have a glossy finish. However, we do have a matte finish on the edges, which is really nice. And durability wise, this is actually held up fairly well.

The outside edge, it hasn't been dropped or anything, but the outside edge has been really nice. I haven't had any flaking of the anodized coating on the aluminum. However, I do have a couple scratches that I don't know where they came from. You can see one they're just under my finger and then there's one over here. If I get the angle, right, let's see if I can get this right here by my finger.

So there's one here in here. Now this is kept in a bag in a case without a screen protector on of course a screen protector would limit that, but generally it's an, an Apple MagSafe case and this is the only iPhone from iPhone 12 series. Anyway, that I have any scratches on whatsoever. So it's kind of strange that it has scratches because none of the other phones do the iPhone 12 mini, the 12 pro and my 12 pro max has been my main phone and it has one scratch, but that's because it dropped off a table by accident. And I'll talk about that in a different video.

Now, as far as all the other durability, it hasn't been dropped, but the glass hasn't shattered or anything, but those scratches are kind of odd. But other than that, it's very durable. I've had no issues. I know others that have some that have had no issues with it whatsoever. And so that part is pretty good.

It's got a quality design and these edges make it a little bit easier to hold on to this year. I really liked that they went back to the squared off edges, where it's just nice to hold onto it. It feels a little bit more premium. And I know not everyone likes that, but you still have the iPhone 11 around. If you prefer the curved edges or maybe an older iPhone, 11 pro or iPhone 10 R or 10 S any of those, you can get the curved edges on there.

Now, as far as the display, well, that's one thing that's great this year. As long as PWM, doesn't bother you, how it adjusts the brightness by flickering the display this year, all of the phones are OLED and so you have a 6.1 inch display, so it's nice and big. And then it's also 1170 by 25 32 with 460 pixels per inch. It's got great viewing angles. And there's no complaints when you're using this versus say a 12 pro you're not going to notice the difference in the brightness.

Since this has a general brightness of about 625 nits up to 1200 for HDR content. So you've got the same brightness with HDR and regular use. It's not as bright, but unless you're in very sunny environments all the time, you're not going to notice the difference in brightness. And it works just fine. It's so bright.

You can't really see it on the screen here. If I turn it all the way up. So it's really a nice, vibrant, bright display, and it's great to watch videos on. So if you're in YouTube, for example, if we go to the options we have up to 4k in HDR, so we can watch YouTube and HDR. You won't see all of those pixels since this isn't a 4k display, but it will scale down and give you the higher bit.

Right? Which makes it super clear. It's also got great speakers. You're not really compromising on those. So let me turn this up and you'll hear this between my voice and my voice speaking directly into the microphone. And I have an improvement over 4g.

Not everybody is seeing this depending on the carrier. It makes a big difference. And the HDR is so bright. As you can see, you couldn't see it on the screen because this video is not an HDR. So in general, watching HDR is great on the iPhones and you have great stereo speakers and no complaints there.

I would say compared to the iPhone 11, the speakers may sound a little bit more tinny to me, but they go a little bit louder. So there's sort of a compromise there, but some people prefer the volume as opposed to the overall base and quality. I'd say they're good. Most people won't notice it, but if you do hold them side by side, you may notice the difference. Now the iPhone 12 does have the a 14 bionic CPU in it, which means it's just as fast as any of the other phones.

This year. That's a super fast processor. Whether it be you're editing a video in a movie, for example, you want to export this movie. It's not going to be slower or anything like that. You're not compromising anywhere with anything.

You can load games fast. You could play anything from say Fortnite to among us or whatever you want to play on it. And it's going to perform as you expect, without any issues. Even though this has four gigs of Ram, which is too down or too less than what you get with the pro models, it doesn't seem to really affect it with Ram management. You really shouldn't have any issues.

If you go back into YouTube, for example, maybe switch back to iMovie, then we'll go back over to, to music. You're not going to have an issue with speed or opening and closing apps. It's going to be the same that you get with the higher and iPhone 12 pro for example, now with only four gigs of Ram, you really aren't going to see much of a difference until we're talking about the rear cameras, but with the front camera, you're not going to see any difference whatsoever. So if we go into the front camera, you have the options for 4k 30, 4K 60, or 4k 30 HDR. So you can record HDR, hit record.

Now we're recording with the iPhone 12 and we're using the microphone on the iPhone 12. So this gives you an idea of what it's like, if you haven't heard it before, but the camera is very high quality 4k 30, and the microphones are surprisingly good, even compared to my studio microphone here. So, so that gives you an idea of the overall video quality from the front and on the rear. You've got the same high quality cameras that you get with the 12 pro. You just don't have the telephoto, but I don't really think that matters for most things.

So you have wide and ultra wide that can record 4k 30 HDR. The pro will give you 4k 60 HDR. So if you go into your settings, you've got a camera. For example, record video, you have HDR. Video is an option Dolby vision HDR.

But if you turn on 60 frames per second, you can't use the HDR option. As you can see, it says record up to 30 frames per second video in 10 bit high dynamic range, including Dolby vision. So you've got 4k 30 4k, 24, and no problems whatsoever. And the video is very high quality. And when it comes to zooming in compared to even the 12 pro max, when you're zooming in, it's going to use the main camera.

Anyway, if there's good light up to about two X beyond that, then it uses telephoto. So if I go to photo, for example, can see there's my keyboard in the background. And I zoom in here, take a photo and then switch over. That was at 3.1 X. You can see it's very high quality.

The detail is pretty good, and you're not going to notice a difference unless you blow this up on a huge screen as compared to say the same photo on the 12 pro max. So if I take the same photo, we'll zoom into 3.1 X, the same thing we did on the other phone. And now you can see the difference between the two photos. So you can see them here and I'll put them on the screen. So now you can see the difference between both of the photos.

The quality is very comparable until you really blow them up to a huge size. Then you may notice a difference, but the cameras are really great. And in fact, I use them to record videos outside often, no issues whatsoever. They've got great dynamic range. And with the neural engine that comes along with the a 14 bionic, it seems to handle the, the brightness and the darks very, very well.

What Apple's doing with the a 14 and the neural engine are pretty amazing. Now this year with the iPhone 12 series phones, Apple has switched to Qualcomm to give us 5g. And these 5g modems, the millimeter wave included with this antenna here. If you're in the United States are really much better than what we had with Intel. So if I turn off wifi, for example, we'll switch over to 5g.

You can see in the upper, right, and I'll hit, go for a speed test. Now the only two bars we should get fairly decent speeds, but it's really going to vary depending on where you live. So, yeah, you'll see, it's going up to about 70 megabits per second, about 80 now. And so it's not bad. It's not amazing, but it's not bad.

And it's only two bars. However, I can get similar speeds with 4g, depending where I'm at. So you'll see, upload speeds are about 10 to 12 megabits per second. So it comes and goes, depending on where you're at. If you're in a different coverage area, you can get much faster.

But right now I wouldn't say 5g is any reason to go out and buy this phone, but it's nice that they switched to Qualcomm because there's better reception. Plus you have wifi six in this phone as well for future-proofing. So for future-proofing of this, I would say, it's great. You've got better reception. I've yet to drop a single call with any of the iPhone twelves this year.

So Apple did a great job. Qualcomm's working very well. And it seems to do what you would expect. Now, as far as battery life battery life is going to vary from a lot of people, but in general, it's pretty good. In fact, I had my daughter who uses an iPhone 12, full-time send over her battery usage because the battery usage is going to vary from person to person.

But let's take a look now using the phone every single day, since it came out and then also plugging it in every single night wirelessly or with the lightening adapter, fast charging it, not paying any attention to it whatsoever. Sometimes charging with a Mac book charger. It's still at 100% battery health. This is a screenshot right off of my daughter's iPhone 12. And then if we go to our battery, you can see that depending on the day, the last 10 days, it says she got two hours and 50 minutes of screen on time, eight hours and 15 minutes of screen off time.

Again, if we go to this day, which was yesterday, two hours and seven minutes, eight hours, and eight minutes of screen off time, and it's about 50% usage. Now she's only getting four to five hours or so of battery life per day, but it's still getting her through the day as she's switching to a computer to do regular work, and then going back to her phone. So as you can see, she was using Safari 25% of the time and a few different other things. And it seems to be just fine. So it's getting her through the day.

And also my father, who's also using an iPhone 12 full time, says he actually gets two days with his iPhone 12. So it really depends on how you use it and for me a day and a half a day or so. So it depends what you're doing, but it's got great battery life. It's got fast charging. If you're using the 20 watt adapter 30 minutes will give you about 50% of your battery.

So that's great. It also has that IP rating of six meters for 30 minutes, which is great if you're dropping it in a puddle for example. And the great thing is this will be supported for five years or so into the future. Maybe six years based on what Apple is doing now. So we should have iOS 19 iOS 20, by the time you may need to get a new phone, maybe even iOS 21.

So this will last for many years to come and I highly recommend an iPhone 12. And I think size-wise, it's the perfect size for most people. Since the iPhone 12 pro max may be a little bit too large and the iPhone 12 mini may be too small. So for me, the 12 pro max is great because I have huge hands, but for most people, I think the squared off edges with the sort of slimmer profile compared to the iPhone 11 is great. Again, you can see this as a fingerprint magnet.

This was cleaned right before the video. This is just from me touching it. So the side, you won't see anything, but on the back, it's a huge fingerprint magnet. And I highly recommend using an Apple case or something, a different case so that it doesn't have that issue. So it's really nice to have the protection on there, but not just protection.

You also get a little extra grip and also protection if you drop it. So again, like I said, I highly recommend the iPhone 12. I think it's the best phone for a lot of people, especially if you can get a deal on it, but let me know which phone you have this year, or are you picking up an iPhone 12? Maybe you're going to wait for the iPhone 12 S or iPhone 13, whatever they call it, or maybe you're just happy with an iPhone seven or success. That's fine too. Let me know in the comments below.

And if you'd like to get your hands on this wallpaper, I'll link it in the description like I normally do. If you haven't subscribed already though, please subscribe. And if you enjoyed the video, please give it a like, as always. Thanks for watching. This is Aaron.

I'll see you next time.
