iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max - Buy Now or Wait for iPhone 13?

Hi everyone Aaron here for Zollotech and the iPhone 12 series phones have been out for many months now and more and more people ask me every day should I buy an iPhone 12 or 12 series device, meaning 12 mini 12, 12 pro or 12 pro max, or should I wait until the next series? The iPhone 13. Every year around September apple will announce a new phone and then release it either in late September, or stagger the releases between September and November, depending on what phones they are like they did last year, so we could see the same sort of staggered release or see them all at once, but either way we expect a new announcement in September and so now that we're only a few months away or a couple of months away from September. Many people are asking me: should I buy an iPhone 12, or should I wait, and so I want to help you decide what to do now. The first thing is the overall design, this year's design. I would not expect a big change, since in 2020 we got the big update to a squared off edge design. So we have the squared off edges.

Of course, they added 5g, but we have squared off edges some new cameras and a look that goes back to what we had with an iPhone 5 5s or even the iPhone 4 and 4s, because we've got the squared off edges. A lot of people went out and bought the phone since it's a major refresh in design. A lot of people were waiting for this. However, a lot of people still really appreciate the curved design of the last generation, the 11 pro max, for example. So if you do appreciate that well, you'll probably be disappointed with the iPhone 13, because you're going to see a squared off design for a few years now, generally they'll refresh them every few years and with the iPhone 13 models, we expect them to have a similar squared off design.

There won't be a giant refresh in design and, as you can see here, in my right hand, I have an iPhone 13 pro max dummy unit, and these are generally sent out every year to case manufacturers from different people to give them an idea of what to make their case. Like and so it shows us about 90 percent of the way there, except for maybe the camera bump, although it is expected to get larger, the overall design is basically the same. You've got squared off edges. Some button placement may be a little different. I showed this in detail in a different video, but they may shift the buttons up and down a little now when it comes to the upcoming design changes with iPhone 13 compared to iPhone 12 mini and 12.

There will be a slight change when it comes to the camera layout. If this is accurate, so you'll have a sort of diagonal camera layout instead of a vertical camera layout. This will be true on the 13 and 13 mini otherwise they're going to be the exact same design, so there won't be much of a change there. Last year was the big change in overall design. Now, as far as specs.

Well, with the iPhone 12 series devices, we got the a14 bionic and the only difference between the devices is the amount of ram each of them have, so you'll see with the iPhone 12 mini, for example, we're close to about four gigabytes of ram, and then we have about six gig gigabytes of ram in the larger model or the pro models. So that makes a little of a difference. It's mostly, I think, for the camera, where they can record a little different frame rates in HDR, for example, but the overall specs in speed. I would expect a bump in the 13 models to go to an a15 bionic and see some significant differences, whether that be with the neural engine, for example. But whether that's going to be observable to the average user is hard to say, unless apple comes out with something augmented reality based that really taxes the processor, I don't think many people will notice the difference if you're waiting for a major update to the overall speed.

However, in the iPhone 13 models, it is said that there will be a efficiency improvement when it comes to the overall processor, so the a15 is said to be more efficient and that would give you better battery life. Now battery life is not poor on any of the phones. The mini will be the least because it just physically has a smaller battery, but you're going to get anywhere between 5 all the way up to 12 hours of screen on time, depending on your phone now with the next iPhone, it does seem to be a little thicker on the higher end and that may be to accommodate a thicker battery, or maybe some changes, but there shouldn't be much of a difference as far as that goes. The major change with the iPhone 13 series is said to be with the display, and the display is where you might see a huge change, and this may matter to you most in the iPhone 13 pro and pro max, where it's said to have a 120 hertz display pro motion display, like that of the current iPad Pro models. Now, if it has that it will just be much smoother and if you've ever used one, you really have to see it to appreciate it, but the 120 hertz display makes it super smooth.

We don't have that on the current iPhones and honestly, most people don't really mind that. But if you go to say a current android phone with it or maybe an iPad Pro you'll notice a difference when it comes to that. So that's the major update I believe this year, and maybe it'll go even brighter than it does with the current phone lineup. So as far as the changes go, that's going to be the major thing, so maybe better battery life, maybe a much better display on two of the models. It's said that maybe the 13 and 13 mini may not have the 120 hertz display and then the battery life is hard to say.

Overall, there's also said to be better connectivity in the upcoming models, where they'll increase the millimeter wave roll out to different countries. It was generally just in the United States and some other countries where we have the millimeter wave antenna. As you can see here on the 12 pro max, some countries didn't have it. It's said to roll out in different places and even get a little faster based off of Qualcomm's latest modem technology. So don't expect any gigantic changes this year.

I think most of them will be to the display and then there is one other thing that they're going to change and that's said to be the wide camera and give that a little better stabilization and autofocus on the pro models. Again. So whether we see huge improvements is hard to say, but quite honestly, any of these phones records really nicely. I've recorded many of them outside using the cameras on all the devices to create HDR videos, and they look incredible, and I'll link those in the description below, but in general. The cameras are phenomenal in these phones.

Already, as long as you have good light, you can record 4k HDR at 60 frames per second on the pro models and 30 frames per second on the non-pro models, and I don't think anyone's complaining about the overall camera quality, but it will get probably a little better with the 13. Now. Should you pick up an iPhone 12 series device or wait until iPhone? 13 comes along well that really comes down to what's most important to you. You'll get support on these phones for many years, so you won't have to worry about software updates even on older phones. At this point, iOS 15 even supports iPhone, 6s and 6s plus and SE, so they're getting support for many years.

That puts us into 2025 2026, with iOS 19 or iOS 20 on the iPhone 12 series, and they could support it beyond that. So you'll have years of support. However, if you care most about price, you may want to opt for an iPhone SE, since this has a newer processor in it. It's plenty fast and will get updates for years, but still has that touch ID sensor that I know a lot of people like. So if you don't care about the big bezels, you want something: that's reasonably priced that gets decent battery life, not amazing battery life but decent battery life and has sort of the older feel and isn't super expensive than the iPhone.

Se is a great value. However, if you want something with the latest technology in it, whether that be the display, for example, then you may want to wait until the next version of the phone comes out with the pro models that are said to have that promotion display. So it comes down to personal preference, but if you're buying a phone for 5g, the 12 is fine for that. If you're buying a phone for good battery life again, the iPhone 12 12 pro max is great for battery life compared to the previous iPhones, for example. So it gets great battery life there and is superfast as well.

You've also got the option of wireless charging on all the modern phones in MagSafe which they'll carry on to the iPhone 13, for example. So if you can find a great deal from your carrier and great trade-in deals like Apple has, then sure I would go out and get an iPhone 12 at this point now. A lot of you have asked me to give my personal opinion about it and my opinion is: I'm someone that's going to get the latest all the time regardless. If I was doing these YouTube videos before I did YouTube videos, I got the latest iPhone every single year, because I was able to find a good trade-in deal and what apple has now, and many carriers have now is. You can just do a year-to-year lease plan where you can swap your phone every single year? That's probably what I would do so that I could swap it when the new one comes out every year.

For example, one of my brothers does the exact same thing. He pays monthly for the phone about forty dollars a month in the United States and goes and reserves the next phone and picks it up when it comes out. So he'll get the latest phone every year, just by doing that, he opts for the 12 mini, for example, and he'll go for the 13 mini when it comes out. So he'll do the same thing. So that's what I would do personally, but it really comes down to personal preference.

It's not a mistake to go, buy it now. They'll continue to support it for years and years, especially if you can get a great deal on it, however, do not expect them to reduce the price as they've been discontinuing them lately on the latest versions. So last year they discontinued the 11 series- phones, the 11 pro series phones, I should say, but they kept the 11. This year. They may keep the 12, for example, and discontinue all the rest and then just sell the 13.

So every year they seem to do that. So don't wait for a discount. Now, there's probably good ones around, and it's definitely a good buy. It's superfast, and I would recommend it to anyone if they wanted to pick one up now. If you have to have the latest and greatest, then I recommend you wait I'd love to hear what you think about this and what you've picked up in the comments below and if you'd like to get your hands on this wallpaper I'll link it in the description like I normally do.
