iPhone 11 Pro Max vs. Samsung S20 Ultra Photography Comparison

What's going on everyone welcome back to new video if you're new around here my name is Samuel Elkins, I'm, a photographer and filmmaker based here in Los Angeles California. Today, we're actually going to be looking at two flex: ships, smartphones, the iPhone 11 Pro max and the Samsung S 20 ultra, both of which deliver incredible image quality and have amazing specs all around. So I'm really excited to compare these phones and just see how the images add up. I want to preface this by saying that I am a professional photographer. You know in my day-to-day life and I do really enjoy reviewing phones, and you know emerging technology and anything that really has to relate back to what I do for a living as a photographer. Both of these phones have incredible cameras, and I'm really excited to just kind of shoot: a wide variety of stuff, everything from portraits to landscapes, to still life kind of walk around stuff, and just to give you guys a full review.

You know of like what is actually like using both of these phones he's shout out to my friend Jonathan Morrison as well. We were actually over at his studio today, checking out the s20 ultra. They were filming some videos as well, so we got to kind of check out their studio space he's one of my favorite YouTubers on this platform, but actually been watching him for a long time so Jonathan if you're watching. Thank you so much for lending me. The s20 ultra we're actually going to be using this for the next week, just running through the camera tests and seeing what we can actually get what this phone is actually capable of, but needless to say, I'm really excited we're.

Actually going to head out, take some photos with these two phones and see we can get your hands raised. Yeah, that's a little slower just because this game is like this camera seekers. So right now we're doing a comparison of the portrait mode on the iPhone 11 Pro Max, as well as the Samsung S 20 Ultra right away. I can tell the difference. The iPhone is just a little more smooth with the processing and the operation of portrait mode.

I think it does take a lot of processing power to create that both. They both look perfect, but it's definitely easier to get a great photo right away with the iPhone 11. The ease of use is definitely something that comes to mind for me when I'm comparing camera phones. So let's continue shooting its good. A few more this.

This looks really nice right there for me, can you sit right down there for me so right now we're going to switch back over to the hundred eight megapixel mode, which is probably my favorite features so far on the s20 ultra I think this is something that definitely sets this phone apart from other phones, but I want you guys to be worried that megapixels honestly don't mean as much as you might think, especially when it comes to phones, they all have a very similar processor and sensor inside. This does have a much bigger sensor than most phone cameras, but it's important to know that megapixel count doesn't really matter as much as you might think. That being said, the images are insanely, sharp and beautiful. To look at we're. Going to continue with this as well.

So, so far this morning, we've different been using the 100 8 megapixel mode on the s20 ultra I think this is the feature that definitely sets this camera apart and this phone apart from other phones on the market, I being said, megapixels doesn't really matter as much as you might think. It's much more about sensor, size and processing power, and this phone does have an amazing sensor. But it's important to know that megapixels just really doesn't matter as much as you might think. With all this being said, the photos coming out of this phone so far, look beautiful, really, really sharp you can zoom in. It seems almost infinitely something you're definitely going to want to note when you're shooting with the hundred eight megapixel mode on the s20 ultra is that the photos aren't always in focus I'm sure this will be fixed with a software update, but so far I'm noticing that a lot of the photos are out of focus, I'd, say about half.

You really have to hold the phone for at least a couple seconds after you press the shutter in order to get a crystal-clear beautiful photo every single time, but that's pretty hard to do, especially when you're running gun and out in the field. You don't normally have a couple seconds after you press the shutter to keep the phone perfectly still. So that is something that you're going to want to know, especially when you're shooting, with 108 megapixel mode. I didn't really notice this with any of the other modes so far, but it's important to note that it does take a while for that shutter to fire, so we just shot some portraits using the portrait mode option on both of these cameras. I can safely say that the iPhone definitely is the king in terms of portrait mode.

Furthermore, I just think it looks a lot more natural. The fact that you can adjust the aperture after the fact fair, with those beautiful skin tones that you always get on Apple cameras and Apple phones. It just really looks good. The s20 ultra portrait is deftly not its strength. It's called live focus mode, but I do think.

The hundred eight megapixel mode is definitely what makes this phone insanely impressive. So we're going to continue to shoot with that, mostly throughout the rest of this video, but we will show all those portraits we just took on the screen and here for you guys to show the differences between the two, so we're doing an outfit change for the portraits right now, so we're gonna focus more on some landscape stuff. Also, going to shoot a little of a Que video just to show you guys the differences between the Que video on the s20 ultra and the 4k video on the iPhone 11 Pro max, but first things. First, we've got some beautiful beaches of Newport behind us. Let's take some photos that moment slow movements, yeah, that's great and look that way for me.

So right now we're doing a 8k video test. We're going to be comparing the K video on the s20 ultra just really quickly to the iPhone 11 Pro Max video on mobile isn't necessarily something that I usually use a lot. We actually, though, did a video pretty recently where we shot the entire video on the iPhone 11 Pro max. That's going to be coming out pretty shortly so stay tuned for that, but nonetheless, I just want to see a quick comparison of the K video on the s20 ultra versus the 4k video on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. So let's check it out sixteen by nine 8k wild all right and one two three go: okay, so now we're going to do 4k, o 24 on the iPhone, okay and three: two one go great! Okay! Here we go okay, so we have now shot all the portraits and landscapes.

Shots were probably going to shoot with these two phones in this review. Honestly I can safely say that as far as skin tones go and overall colors, the iPhone clearly wins, as you guys can see in a lot of these images right out of camera. They already just look amazing and a lot of the ways that you're looking for in terms of mobile photography, great skin tone, accurate, colors, really amazing, dynamic range and that portrait mode honestly is one of my favorite parts about this phone on the s20 ultra side.108 megapixels is extremely impressive. A lot of the time, though it does take a lot of time to focus and or you miss focus if you don't hold the phone properly still for a couple seconds with all this being said, though, this is an amazing camera on a phone, it's definitely the best Android or Samsung camera that I personally use, and I'm pretty impressed to say the least. The 1500-hour price tag of the s20 ultra is pretty steep for what you're getting when in reality, you could just get an iPhone, and you're going to get amazing skin tones and great dynamic range right out of the box, in terms of which camera is better I, don't know if I'm going to give an actual, like you know, favorite I think a lot of the time, I'm, preferring the iPhone images, but with all that being said, the s20 ultra, as well as an amazing camera, and it's really exciting to see what is possible.

With such an incredible array of cameras, you have like what four different lenses on the back of this so pretty exciting stuff I know for a lot of people you're either one way or the other in terms of iPhone versus Android, but for me, I think I'm just excited about camera technology in general, especially with mobile devices. There's a lot of happening. That's really exciting.108 megapixels take a video, beautiful, colors, great skin tones amazing portrait mode options like there's a lot to be excited about in 2020. Some I'm just excited to see what is up and coming with new phone technology and I think we are at a great time for from mobile phones and photography in general. So thank you so much guys.

Hopefully you enjoyed this one. Let me know down in the comments. If you have any questions, I'll leave the links down in the description to all the raw photos we shot with both of these phones. So you guys can take a look at them yourself, also, obviously going to leave a link down to Jonathan's channel as well. For lending me, the s20 ultra amazing guy, amazing channel just beautiful videos all around so go check them out as well, but yeah,, thanks.

So much guys we'll see you later.
