iPad Pro 12.9” (2021) – The M1 MacBook Pro KILLER?

Apple has finally unveiled the brand new 2021 iPad pros. We've recently done a video covering 21 things you need to know before buying one, but in this one I want to focus solely on the 12.9 inch model and give you guys my thoughts on it and if I actually think this thing is worth buying or not sponsored by paperlike. If you have an iPad and an Apple Pencil, you need to get paper-like. Paper lake is a thin screen protector that you apply to your iPad. That makes the entire drawing and writing experience with the Apple Pencil feel like real paper, rather than that slippery glass feel that you would normally get. I actually use paper like on my very own personal iPad Pro, and I would highly recommend it so yeah check it out using the link below, and thank you paperlike for sponsoring this video okay.

So, in my opinion, for something to be worth buying, it needs to either give you its monetary value back as soon as possible. Aka generate income for you, or it needs to be so enjoyable that you wouldn't mind losing that money on it. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is pretty expensive at a starting price of eleven hundred dollars. It is one hundred dollars more than the MacBook Air, not only that, but it only comes with 128 gigabytes of storage compared to 256 on the MacBook Air, and it also lacks a keyboard and a trackpad. Therefore, if you bump, the storage should do 56 gigabytes and also add the magic keyboard, you would end up spending 1550 or 55 more than when compared to a MacBook Air, which is pretty insane so now.

The question is: can the 12.9-inch iPad Pro make you that money back and the answer is yes to some extent? We both know that iPadOS is still severely limited when compared to macOS. Therefore, if your programmer a game designer a 3d, modeling artist or anything, that requires specific tools that are not on the iPad, then you're out of luck, but for some use cases the iPad Pro is actually the best there is, for example, I believe that the iPad Pro is just perfect for graphic designers as there's no other device with this screen. Quality and overall pen input experience. So if you're a graphic designer, then yes, the iPad Pro, can definitely make you your money back and also improve your craft. In the meantime, to some extent, I would say that the same applies to music creators.

I mean sure logic, pro 10, Ableton or any of the other high-end tools are not on the iPad yet, but GarageBand is actually way better than you would expect and for some artists, that is enough, too same applies to business users or people who have to go out and about often as the iPad Pro is super portable has 5g, and therefore it can indeed make back it's worth that way. So the answer is yes, but only to some groups of people, which means that for the other group of people to whom the iPad cannot give its value back monetarily it needs to make its value back based on the experience that it offers, and I think that apple has nailed it. In this regard, you have a mini lead display which is outstanding for watching content, and on top of that, you also have the world's largest tablet app library, with some very high quality games. Thanks to Apple Arcade. You see this iPad can replace everything from your computer to your gaming console.

It's that good, it's literally you're all in one device, and because of this I do think that it is worth it so there you go thanks for watching um, go out and buy this new iPad Pro, because it's 100 percent worth it'm Daniel. This is means no tech, and I'll see you guys in the next one. It's another tech signing out cheers, but wait we're not actually done yet. I was thinking if I'm telling you to buy this iPad, because it's so good, then I should also make you aware of some alternatives, also as a fun fact. Only 22.5 percent of you watching this video have actually chosen to subscribe to the channel. Our goal is to get this number than close to 50 as possible.

It was actually 22.4 before, so we are making some good progress, but yeah stay tuned until the next video. When I'm going to update you guys again with where this number is at. So, let's see if we can uh, you know, increase it. That'll be awesome, okay, so, as my number one alternative to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, I suggest you take a look at the 2020 model. The reason why I'm saying this is that the 2020 model has now dropped in price considerably.

You can check out the most up-to-date price using the link below you can also check out Apple's refurbished store for some amazing deals on previous gen devices. Essentially, if you can find a 12.9 inch from 2020 that is 30 or 40 percent less than 2021 model, I would say get it asap. I mean sure you don't get that brilliant melody display, but the LCD panel from before was already the best LCD panel that you could get on a tablet, or you could even say on any other device, because it was really bright.600 nits compared to 500, which is what we have on the MacBook pros. For example, you don't get the m1 either, but the a12z was already extremely powerful, powerful enough for 4k60 video editing. Most people won't even need the dm1 at all, and on top of that, if you get a 2020 model, you can use it with apple's previous magic keyboard, which you can find one bay for much less compared to the new one.

If you have the 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 inch, you have to buy apple's brand new magic keyboard as due to this new iPad being 0.5 meters thicker, the older keyboards would not fit properly. I do have to make you aware that you might not get a year or two of updates when compared to the m1 model. However, since the iPad r2, for example, from seven years ago, is still fully supported by apple, I do see the 2020 iPad Pro being supported for at least seven years or so then. My alternative number two is to actually get the 2018 model instead, which fun fact is actually identical to the 2020. Aside from that single extra GPU core and the back facing camera in benchmarks and performance tests, the 2018 model has proven to be almost identical to the 2020 model, so you're, really just missing out on the camera here, are in that you get the same, display the same design and the same magic keyboard as on the 2020 model.

Now I know the 2018 is almost impossible to find brand new uh, because you know it's been quite some time since 2018. , so your best bet is to go one bay, where you can still find uh. Some used, 2018 12.9-inch iPad pros for a pretty good price. Now I would say that a good deal for the 2018 model is around 50 of the price of the 2021 model. If you can find one, that's also in very good condition for that price.

It's a great deal now something that you should definitely keep in mind is the difference in ram, so the 2018 model had four gigabytes of ram or six. If you got the one terabyte of storage model, the 2020 had six and the 2021 has eight or even 16, on the 1 and 2 terabyte models. What this means is that the newer models can keep more apps open in the background, and the m1 models will very likely be the only ones to support apple's upcoming pro level apps such as Final Cut Pro logic and Xcode, which have all been rumored to launch on the iPad at some point. So if you're going to use this iPad Pro for professional use, it might be a way better idea for you to just get the m1 variant, but for the rest of you, the 2020 and even the 2018 models are still very good options. Then alternative number three is to just get the 11-inch model instead, because, as you can see, the 12.9 inch is big, like huge, and if you add in a keyboard, it ends up being thicker and heavier than a MacBook Air. My point here is that if you don't necessarily need that massive display- and you prefer something more portable- the 11-inch model is still a great choice as well as literally the only thing that you don't get aside from.

You know the size is the mini LED display, but at the same time the 11-inch does start from 800 compared to 1100. So there is a significant price difference between the two and then on top of that, if you were to buy that magic keyboard, it is also less on the 11-inch model costing 300 compared to 350. Alternative number four is to get something else. Instead, like you know a Samsung Galaxy tab, seven plus, but hear me out. I know it's not an iPad, but it's actually a very, very good option.

Yes, it is significantly less powerful than the new m1 iPad Pro. The display only goes to 480 nits compared to 1000, sustained and 1600 peak in HDR on the new iPad Pro. It also lacks the gigantic app ecosystem that the iPad Pro is known for, however, it has a 120 hertz, OLED display, which is outstanding for viewing content. It has a 16 by 10 aspect ratio, making it far better for watching movies when compared to the iPad, pro's 4x3 as a ratio, and it is also super thin at just 5.7 millimeters, while at the same time being extremely light at 575 grams. On top of that, the taxa 7 plus has much better multitasking, where you can open around 8 apps at the same time, compared to just 3 on the iPad Pro.

On top of that, the taxa 7 plus can be used in DEX mode, which makes it very similar to windows with resizable, apps and way more stuff, and you also get a pen included in the box and with all of this, it costs significantly less than what a 12.9-inch iPad Pro costs. Should you buy the keyboard and the pencil attachments for it? And finally, my last alternative is uh, probably the most obvious one which is getting a MacBook Air instead and that's because it costs 550 less. You get the same performance but with a much better 18-hour battery life compared to just 10 on the iPad Pro and the MacBook Air is actually more portable than the 12.9 inch IPA pro with a keyboard and the pencil attached. The only things that you're missing out on are the touchscreen the pencil the mini LED display and 5g. However, if you don't really care about any of these, then I would just say go with the MacBook Air.

So, in the end, whilst the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is worth it, it is only worth it for a particular group of people due to its very high price point for the more casual users of you out there getting the 2020 or even the 2018 models, a galaxy, taxa, 7, plus or a MacBook Air instead is, I would say, a better choice. But let me know in the comments: what do you guys think? Are you getting a 12.9 in shepherd pro and if so, would you actually use it as your main computer and if you are not getting one, but you would like to get one? What is the app? That's? Stopping you from using it as your main computer. Let me know in the comments because you've enjoyed it to let us know, as it does help you to push our videos more and definitely subscribe. If you want to see more interesting tech videos like this one, hopefully was I'm Daniel. This is means of tech, and I'll, see you guys in the next one synoptic signing out cheers you.
