iPad Air 3 In Late 2020! (Still Worth It?) (Review) By Simple Alpaca

Welcome back everyone time to do another late, 2020, review of an iPad that actually came out over a year ago and that iPad was the iPad Air, 3 aka, the iPad Air 2019 version and since then, we've actually gotten the iPad for I have actually purchased it. I don't know what it's coming in, so I'm going to do a bunch of comparisons, I'm like two months late on that one, but better late than never, but with this iPad Air. Three surprisingly, my voice, just cracked one fascinating thing about it- was that it actually was kind of like a refresh within a refresh, because not only did it refresh the iPad Air lineup, but it also refreshed the 10.2-inch iPad Pro that we had. You know about two years before that one. So that was a very interesting thing. It was actually the iPad 10.5 inch, not the 10.2 inch. There was number one that never was a 10.2-inch iPad Pro, but that was something that was very interesting to me. So it was like a dual refresh within one device and what I can tell you was with the iPad Air 3.

It brought a lot to the table, still has a lot of capability and if you can still get your hands on it, you're- probably better safe than sorry, which means, in my opinion, with this one, that if you can pick it up still, I say: go for it. But there are, you know, a huge list of advantages for the newer iPad airs or even maybe even like an iPad Pro third generation. You know the older one of those are fairly cheaper in the used market. They still aren't that cheap, but that's kind of one way. I would recommend it if I can find the iPad 3 for the cheapest price on Amazon, I'll link it down in the description below and you guys can help support the channel.

At the same time now, looking on the front of the iPad Air 3, we have that 10.5 inch IPS panel, and it's actually pretty high resolution, but on top of that it still has that home button which some people may prefer. But I like that design. You know at that time. When it first came out, I think 2017. It looked pretty good, and even now it still doesn't look that bad.

What I will tell you, though, is that this thing does not have that 120 hertz refresh rate, like the original iPad Pro 10.5 in chat, that's kind of like an unfortunate thing. Is it a big deal not really to maybe like a lot of people, but it is still something to kind of keep in mind at the end of the day, you have that home button on the bottom of this iPad. Then you have that lightning part on the bottom of it too, which is really cool on the back. You have that standard aluminum back, which is cool, and I like it, but you also have that single camera setup, and it's an 8 megapixel sensor and there's not a lot of reason to you know talk about it for 15 minutes or anything. But what I'll tell you is that this specific iPad, the fact that it has a camera, I think, is you know, cool.

I don't think anybody's going to use this camera for, like you, know, multi-function videos and movies and even shooting at YouTube. Videos on. I probably would not recommend it. You're tapped out at 1080p at 30 frames, so this camera is pretty much identical to like an iPhone 6 camera. I don't really think people would recommend using an iPhone, 6 camerae in this day and age.

I mean, if you can use it. If it's your only camera, then go for it, but it's not really that amazing of a camera setup. You know, there's no portrait mode, no night mode. No, nothing like that. I don't know if any other iPads have it.

I don't know if the iPad pros have it either, but pretty much at the end of the day it gets the job done. The fact that it has a camera, I think, is better. You know safer than sorry. I don't know why. I keep saying that in this video and on the front, you have a 7 megapixel sensor.

That is also only able to do 1080p at 30. Is it a big deal? Not really? I actually think the fact that this thing has both the back and front camera is pretty good, especially for an iPad. I never use the know, cameras on my iPad unless all my phones are busy, such as the times that I'm using doing a battery comparison or something, if I'm not doing one of those, and if I still have a phone, that's functioning. Furthermore, I would rather use a older phone than an iPad camera, to be completely honest. So in terms of the camera setup that pretty much covers it up there now software wise, because this thing has that Apple A12 chip inside it you're going to be set for the software standpoint for a while- and I don't know if it's going to last as long as the iPad Pro 3rd generation or 4th generation.

But those things are also based off the Apple A12 chip. So there could be an opportunity or situation where the iPad Air 3, somehow outlasts or just lasts as long as those iPad pros. I don't think it's going to happen, but it's still a possibility, but the software experience of these iPads are still amazing. They got iPadOS 14, and that was a pretty good update for sure these iPad airs, you know, can handle pretty much a lot of things you throw at it. There is a limitation, though, which I'll get into in a second, but the features within iPadOS and all those other little things are still there for the iPad Air 3.

So really, whatever an iPad Pro can do realistically 99 the iPad Air 3 can do as well. Is it perfect? No, like I stated before there are some. You know, hardware limitations, that kind of set the iPad Air 3 a little less than the iPad Pro's, but other than that. I think it's a perfect iPad for sure and in terms of the software standpoint that pretty much covers it up. There now performance wise- and this is probably the biggest thing about the specific iPad.

It has that Apple A12, bionic chip, like I already stated, but it only has three gigabytes of ram and that specific ram portion of this whole entire, you know thing is probably the biggest problem with a specific device again. If this thing had you know four or six gags of ram, I would have set it up better, but the three gigs of ram this thing has pretty much puts it at the same type of performance as something like an iPhone 10r. It's still, I don't think as good as something like an iPhone 10 or in my opinion, mostly because you know it has a high resolution. You know screen, but even other than that. I think this whole entire iPad is perfectly fine, depending on your situation.

Now what I'll tell you are this? If you are an owner of this iPad or if you're planning on getting an iPad? Basically, you need to understand the type of user. You are, if you're, the type of user that you know, expects everything from an iPad like it's your main desktop in a way you don't use a MacBook or iMac, or anything like that. Your iPad is your machine. This is the type of situation that I would probably say. You know you can get a lot of stuff done with an iPad, but it still is going to be limited in some portions now, if you're, a student or something like that and all you do- is type papers, write, notes and stuff like that, I think an iPad or three is going to be perfectly fine.

You have to also consider the fact that this iPad supports the Apple Pencil, not the second generation, but the first generation, which I still think is perfectly fine for a lot of people, and that is a huge advantage for this type of iPad. If you can go and write down, notes and highlight stuff and move on and so on and so forth, you're going to be setting yourself up for success with an iPad. In my opinion, that's a weird way to put it, but you're going to be in a better situation than not, but if you're trying to go and do everything on an iPad such as video editing, you know coding doing this doing that, and you know holding a lot of those apps in the background you're going to be running into the issues with the ram management, it will probably be able to play those games, and it'll go ahead, and you know open everything. Just fine again. This thing almost has the same chipset as the iPad Pro.

You know, third generation and fourth generation for the most part, but the ram is the biggest separating factor, because it only has three gigs of ram you're only going to be able to hold so many apps in the background before it restarts. So, to give you an example, if you're in the middle of a typing up a paper on your iPad, and you go to, you know, load up another app, and you want to go multitask between two apps, and you're, taking things from one app to the other and all this other stuff. Well, you don't want your. You know, document that you're working on originally to restart the app, because that would be really annoying chances are your work is saved, but you're going to have to go and click on the same document, open it up and all that stuff and get to the point where, if the more rain you have the better you are, and with an iPad Pro 4th generation or with even a MacBook you're going to be setting yourself up for a better situation. So that's one way to put it performance wise.

It just depends on what you're trying to do with it. If you're a baseline user, I would say, like an average user, the app header 3 is going to be perfectly fine, but if you're somebody who needs to expect a lot more from an iPad, and you're trying to replace a MacBook with it- and you do more than just you know- writing documents and stuff you're going to have a hard time doing that with an iPad Air 3, specifically an iPad Pro's fourth generation would be better, but because of the ram thing with the iPad, air 3 is definitely not my favorite. You know substitute for a MacBook, in my opinion, so in terms of performance that pretty much covers it up now, ending it off with the battery life. Surprisingly, this thing has a 8134 million power battery. That's actually a perfect size battery for this thing, and because this thing is not even that's barely two years old at this point, the battery sizes haven't really degraded that much either.

So that's another pretty big advantage for these specific iPads, and I've had a really, really good experiences with iPads in terms of battery life. So, no matter what you do with these iPads you're going to have a really, really good time in terms of battery life now is it going to be perfect? I don't know. I don't even know how to answer that. It's a big size battery it's going to be able to do everything you throw at it. It's not going to be, like, I said, perfect, there's going to be times when the battery may degrade a little faster or a little sooner, if you're doing a bunch of apps.

In the background and if you're having you know a bunch of heavy intensive games and stuff, then obviously it's going to go down, but it will go down with any device. You can open these same type of apps on a MacBook and the same thing will happen. So it's not really just an iPad thing. It's just a know a device thing overall, but to kind of sum up this video and say answer the question: is the iPad Air 3 still worth it in the later part of 2020? Well, what I can tell you is basically it depending on your situation, this iPad Air 3 is such a good and medium ground. I would say, for people who are you knowing, kind of baseline users, average users and somebody who wants a little more from their iPad.

I think this sits at a perfect spot right there, but, like I said before, if you're somebody who even needs a little more than maybe some sort of little above average like if you're like a little above a little above average, then this iPad may not be enough for you and there's two specific area. Maybe three, I don't even know, I'm just going to say what I think the 120 hertz refresh rate on the display is a really cool thing about iPads and unfortunately, this one doesn't have it which kind of sucks it has Apple Pencil support, but it doesn't support Apple Pencil 2, which is the one that connects to the side rather than plugging it into the lightning port. That's another pretty big thing. I would rather have the one that connects to the side. I have the one that connects to the side and I actually do like it a lot.

The cameras on this iPad aren't really as great as something even like an iPhone 10. So that's another kind of big thing to keep in mind. This camera is about the same as an iPhone 6. In my opinion, the display is still good, though it still looks and performs extremely well. It still feels like a perfect tablet as well.

It doesn't feel old. Furthermore, it does have a little of an outdated design because of the bezel on the top and bottom and the home button, but I still think that's perfectly fine for a lot of people. I don't really think people care about that too much. This performance on this iPad is perfect. It's only limited with the ram other than the ram.

It's perfectly fine. I would say for a lot of people out there, and I wouldn't even say it's that much slower than the iPad pros. To be completely honest, it is slower for sure, but the biggest problem or the biggest differentiating factor would come in the ram management. Those new iPads with more ram are definitely going to do you much better than these, but, like I said, it's still a perfect performing tablet, it can definitely get the job done. The battery life is great.

I think, in my opinion, if you can find one in the used market, for you know a good value, I would say, go for it, there's not that much to hate on it. Of course, it's not perfect, but I think for a majority of people out there. It's actually not a bad tablet to pick up, so in terms of that that pretty much covers it up, if you guys have any other questions or anything.
