iPad Air 1 In 2019! (Is It Still Worth It?) (Review)

What is going on. Everyone welcome back to the channel dude another long-awaited double ice. Why so earlier today, I dropped. The original is 10 ODS video. If you want to see that that's also a double ice, why most of a nostalgic look go back like to video go back to one video, ok and watch that one. That's really, really important, but today the iPad Air is one of those devices that actually I owned before I even made a YouTube video.

Why I kind of owned the iPad Air while I started making it, but I didn't even make a video about it and so later on, and I'll be honest men. My experience with it has greatly changed with the software, so I'll kind of go delve deep into that in a second, but that's more so on the software side. But what I'll tell you are the iPad Air came out in 2013? This was actually the same year that the iPhone 5s was released, but weirdly enough. Apple always does this, and I think they do it on perfect. Obviously they do it on purpose, but this was released in October where the iPhone 5s was released in September and it kind of did the same thing in 2018, with the iPhone 10 or whatever that was released in September, and they had another event, I think in October November, whichever one that was, and they constantly do.

This thing and I think it's a really smart business tactic, but I think it's kind of annoying, because I'd rather have the iPads and tablets. Sooner than later. That's kind of a personal reason. I should go, get that checked out, but nonetheless, this tablet was pretty much the continuation of the whole entire iPad lineup. We had like the iPad 4.

We had the iPad, all these other ones, and this one was actually the first one where they kind of were trying to flex on everybody and trying to sell and market it on as a smaller thinner tablet that was still capable of doing everything. You would need kind of like a MacBook Air but in my opinion, I think. The iPad Air was a little of a better option than the regular iPad I. Think it was the iPad 4 at the time, whereas the MacBook Air was kind of like a cheaper version which was thinner, I, think this in a way was even better off performing. In my opinion, I could be totally wrong, but the fact that this thing is still getting software support kind of brings me to that opinion.

All right now, looking at the front, we have a nine point. Seven-inch screen. It is an IPS LCD. Now the resolution I'll tell you, and you're going, don't get it twisted okay, 1536 by 2048. Now that's a pretty high resolution panel, but this thing does have 264 pixels per inch, which is fairly small, and what I'll tell you was, in my opinion, I, don't think the screen is that good I have an iPad Pro, not the newer one.

I had like a 2016 version and that one how to write in a display. I guess this one does have a Retina display too, but the biggest takeaway from this is that the screen has not held that well because of the surrounding lamination. It just seems like when you click on it. When you have something going on, and you try to maneuver with the panel it's just like you, you have a huge gap of glass that you can notice. We tell, so it doesn't feel like you're tapping the screen.

It feels like you're tapping like an inch above the screen. Now. Obviously it's not that much, but it's kind of annoying I guess back in 2013. It wasn't that big of a deal because almost every iPad had that or not even most of them, because I have an iPad 4 and that screen looks pretty decent, but with my iPad Air 2 that I bought out for this from iPad Pro now. You can definitely tell that, even just a few years after this, when the iPad Air 2 was released, that that device had a much better panel than this, so I would definitely recommend, if you're doing some type of like graphical work.

If you need your colors to be accurate, if you need the best panel, I probably will not go before the iPad Air just because of that one reason alone. But it's not that horrible of a tablet- I'll, be honest, and you'll- have to hear the rest of my assessment for that. Obviously, the lighting port on the bottom. You don't have a fingerprint sensor, you don't have touch ID, you just have the home button and the rest of the design is pretty familiar. I'm sure you guys have seen this type of iPad, you do have front facing camera and the back facing camera I'll go delve deep into those in a second, but that pretty much covers up the outside.

You have a headphone jack, obviously, and, like I said, the outside was pretty minimalistic, the same exact type of and layout as the previous iPad, so nothing too crazy going on here, buddy now, moving on to the software now this is the craziest thing ever, so this thing was released in 2013, okay, and this thing is still supported with software and I think this is so underrated because I don't hear anybody talking about the iPad Air being supported. I always hear the iPhone 5s I review it all that stuff. But when I hear like people talking about, oh man, Apple supports their devices, so much crazier, look at the iPhone 5s, whatever nobody ever mentions, like the iPad Air or the iPad Mini 2, or anything like that, and that's super crazy. My opinion, because I think the iPad Air deference still holds its own on in terms of software. So right now it does have iOS 12 point 1.3, the newest version. Whenever I had, whenever I was filming it is does have I was 12 on it and the story and what I'll tell you are in terms of software.

It supports pretty much all the features you don't have grouped FaceTime. You have group notifications, things like that, but you don't have anything crazy, the gestures and everything I'll talk to those more into the software side in terms of performance side of things. But what I'll tell you are this thing is still being supported if you have any like security risk, or you there's any more features being added in iOS 12. This thing will be able to support that. So that is sew.

Super cool have a lot of respect for Apple. For doing that, especially on this device, so in terms of software, this thing is set. This is definitely 100% going to be the last version of iOS. It's going to get it's not going to go any further. I hope it does.

That'd be really cool, but I just think it'd be dumb if it did because I was 12 should be its resting point, I love doing more reviews on these devices with software's and things because they make more views, but I know. Apple is not going to go support this for another year, so I think I was told, is going to do with justice. I really wish I was able to get an iPad Air on iOS 7, which was what it was laced with, but it's whatever man I. Guess it's not that big of a deal now moving on to the performance side of things. Okay, this thing has an Apple A7 chip, a dual-core CPU and one gig of ram okay.

So the same type of chip that was in the iPhone 5s is in this and what I'll tell you are man: the performance is noticeably choppy. It's super glitchy everywhere. You will not be surprised if somebody can use this as a main device. Okay, now back in the day when I had an iPad Air as my main device, as my main iPad I, remember, I was gaming with it here and there I was like doing not too much intensive stuff. I might have some motor videos about it too, but I wasn't doing anything crazy.

You guys can check back on those and I. Remember it wasn't too slow, but I was running that on iOS 10 I believe at the time. So back in the good old days right when I was 10 was on the iPad Air. That was running perfectly, not perfectly fine. It was still noticeably slow, but I didn't feel like it was as low as it is now.

Okay, this thing right now I could not even use it as a side tablet. Okay, a side tablet to my main top like I. Don't even think I could do that. It's not smooth! So it's super choppy. Is it horrible? No, is it unusable? No, it's not I feel like because I test.

So many devices in my knees and my pickiness increases per phone I, choose I, think the older devices, the iPads and everything they seem slower and slower, especially when they're so supported- and you have to remember this- you have the newest software on hardware from 2013. So obviously the tablet is not going to be as fast as an iPhone Menace max it's not going to be as fast as an iPhone 7 or an iPhone 6s, but I guess if you really needed it, if you're really really really tight on a budget or someone's giving it to whatever I guess, it'll get the job done if you're typing papers or something like that, I guess it's! Okay, but again it's just extremely slow, and I would just really caution anybody from going out to pick up a tablet. That's a little older than what I would recommend buying, but in terms of performance, I guess it'll get the job done. I would probably rate it like a four out of ten, maybe like a four and a half I guess gaming is okay too again. I, don't know that many people who game on an iPad or once though, but what I would say it was I used to play this game called impossible.

Road back in the day and I used to ball in that game. Don't even get me started, but I remember me playing it and there didn't seem that glitchy and I had a really hard time justifying the purchase to get an iPad Air 2, because I got the time. I mean I was making a little of money from YouTube, but I wasn't making enough to just go out and just make reckless decisions like I do now, so I really had to justify myself to buy an iPad or to when I waited a couple of months to do it, and eventually I did, and I didn't I notice a little of difference, but not too much craziness. But now with my iPad ? and my iPad or one there's, a huge difference in terms of performance and I, definitely think it has a lot to do with that. One gig of ram that the iPad Air one had versus the two that the iPad Air 2 had so in terms of performance, like I said, probably a four or four and a half out of five man and I.

Don't want to spend too much time talking about the camera of this thing, but I'll kind of hit on it as a five megapixel sensor on the back, and it won't point two megapixel sensor on the front, and again I guess it'll get the job done. I didn't want to even take photos of this thing. I think I might have just did a couple. You can shoot 1080p videos on it and I guess it'll get the job done if you ever want to take. If you ever want to take photos on a 2013, iPad Air with a five megapixel camera with a nine point, seven-inch screen, I, guess, and you'll be my guest, but it's not that good of a camera.

Our iPhones now have higher megapixel count and high resolution cameras than the back camera on this thing. So kind of keep that in mind. But you know it is what it is. You have the 1.2 megapixel camera on the front. You can shoot 720p videos on it, and you know I guess it gets the job done as well.

So I guess for the camera I'll give it a 10 out of 10. It's completely perfect, just kidding it's its whatever you know, I, don't think anybody's going to buy this to get the camera, but I kind of hit on it too much and I kind of hit hard on it. I, don't think you know. A lot of people are going to like me after me stating those two things but don't be alarmed I think this tablet really nails it out of the park with one specific category, and that is the battery okay. This thing had eight thousand six hundred million power battery.

Now that's a pretty big sized battery, but keep in mind. This thing is on iOS 12, which is supposed to honestly be better for your battery life. I. Don't really think so, but I think it's better than iOS 11, so I'll give it that it's pretty low performance. It doesn't really have a lot of things going on for it in the inside and iOS as a whole doesn't really suck up too much bad.

That kind of goes on with the first thing, so this thing is killer in terms of battery. You probably will not be able to kill it in like two or three days. It'll, probably take you a while standby time is killer on this thing as well. I literally love this thing, I wish the battery size and life could go into a phone or something like that man. This thing is super crazy and I.

Think if there's one reason you would ever need to pick up an iPod and iPad Air ever in your life, if you ever wanted to. For some reason, the battery life is one of those things that you will definitely appreciate, and I know. My other iPad Air owners are going to say the same thing. Unless you have an iPad Air, that's really deteriorated in the battery, then. Obviously you can't really flex on that.

Anybody about that, but I definitely think that, in terms of the battery size, it's huge, and the battery life is phenomenal as well. This is why I keep saying manufacturers need to put bigger sized batteries in their phones and their tablets or their whatever, and also optimize a software, not just one or the other man. That's crazy. Now, some other known Okla takes a note like I say: did no fingerprint sensor no touch ID, not that big of a deal no face ID either this thing overall, my opinion is kind of slow, but I guess you can get over it depending on your needs like if I took my needs. I probably would not be able to be satisfied with this thing now.

Here's another thing to note: okay, this thing for some reason it's still fairly expensive. You can easily get like an iPad Pro from the first gen or something like that. The 9.7 inch for like 50 60 dollars more than this. If you really tried hard I mean I've seen a lot of these sell for around the 100 to 90 dollar price mark or like the 90 to 100. Whatever for like 50 or 60 dollars more, you could probably get an iPad Pro, or you can even get an iPad Air 2 and those devices are much, much better than the iPad Air.

So what I'll tell you are: is the iPad Air so worth it in 2019? Yes, and no? Okay, yes, I know no, it's like it's like this. Okay, if you currently own one then obviously keep it is still supporting software. So if you made it work for you for this long, then always keep it. But if you need something for school, if you need something, and you're on a budget, and you need like man, I need something for, like my English class or something and I need to be able to do this and that my knees aren't extremely high, but it just needs something for the side. Then maybe this is okay, but I still would be hesitant.

I'll probably still recommend you to get an iPad Air 2 or an iPad Pro I know those things are a little more expensive, but you will be so much happier with your life. The fact that you did that and those things are probably going to be supported longer than the iPad Air, so you're really not even doing anything wrong. You're like doing something right by supporting your devices even longer, and it's almost like an investment. You know it just depends how badly you need something now I will be dropping videos on an app header, ? and an iPad Pro later this year, probably in like a couple of weeks or a month or something so keep lockdown on the channel here. But I will try my best to find the cheapest price, iPad Air, 2 and iPad pros and like I'm straight in the description below they're all gonna, be through Amazon, so the cheapest ones I find on Amazon all they come straight below make sure you buy them through those things, so you can help the channel out.

At the same time, we can make more videos like this and do more giveaways and things like that. So that is pretty much it. Let me know what you guys. Think, though, do you guys love the iPad Air?
