HTC U 11 hands-on: putting the squeeze on its competition

This is the HTC? U 11 the company's big 2017 Android flagship. We already saw the new you series get started earlier this year with the? U ultra and you play, but now HTC stepping things up with the best-equipped you phone to date, the snapdragon 835 powered you 11, while metal used to be the name of the game with HTC's top-shelf handset this year the company is embracing a new glass covered, look before very shiny color options for the, 11 white, black blue and a quite bluish silver, the whites one of the most interesting of the bunks pulling off some neat color, shifting iridescent effects at the right angles. But sadly it's the one option that won't be available in the US, unlike Samsung and LG, which went with ultra-wide screen 18 by 9 displays, but their latest hero, phones, HTC, is keeping things traditional with a 16 by 9 5.5 inch LCD with a 1440 by 2560 resolution. Instead, HCC's innovation lies just outside the screen, where the manufacturers equipped the? U 11 with an array of new pressure sensors that can detect when you give the phone to squeeze your squeezes trigger with HTC's calling edge sense, and you can use both a short squeeze and the long squeeze to perform. Customizable actions like pulling up the phone's camera toggling, its flashlight or quick, launching the app of your choice. You can also customize just how hard you need to squeeze.

So those are you with strong grips, won't accidentally set off the action. HTC returns with another 12 megapixel, ultra pixel camera for the U 11, and while we've got a wider aperture than on the HTC 10 we're also dealing with slightly smaller pixels. The good news is that it now supports dual pixel autofocus, dropping its laser assisted autofocus on the process. Other big upgrades include beefing waterproofing up to an ip67 rating.64 gigabytes is the new base, storage level, louder, boom, sound speaker output and an array of four microphones that are designed to help ensure that whether you're controlling your phone with voice commands we're just recording a video with HD audio. You would let them can hear things just fine, no matter where your subjects are standing, while the headphone jack isn't coming back.

Not only do we finally get a 3.5 millimeter to USB adapter in the box, which we very much a missed on Au ultra, but now the included you b-type, see earbuds offer active noise cancellation, maybe even more than AG sense. That could add some real appeal to the 11 plenty of other manufacturers try to tempt shoppers with ear buds of varying quality, but so far, if you've wanted noise cancellation, that meant picking up an expensive aftermarket pair, the HTC. U 11 has all the hallmarks of a good flagship, the latest processor, some decent spec upgrades and even a fancy new gimmick in the form of eggs sense, but will all make the phone a success. While HTC gives you 11 an attractive new design compared to the LG G 6 on Samsung Galaxy s 8, the look of this model is very much more traditional safer. Even that's not necessarily a bad thing and the hardware very much feels well-made, but we wonder if it's going to come across as less ambitious, lets flashy than its competition and whether that could hurt sales we'll be spending a lot more time with HTC's new flagship in the days to come for now stay tuned to phone arena, and we hope you enjoyed this first look at the HTC: u 11.
