Hands-on with the affordable TCL 20 5G smartphone

Stephen fen nick from tech guide here, and today we're talking about the TCL 25g. Now this is a mid-tier smartphone, it's priced at 499, Australian dollars. The mid-tier smartphone market is quite a competitive one, and the good thing for customers is. There are a lot of devices that offer value as well as a lot of features, and this device proves that you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to have those flagship type features. Even the design, the camera system and the display are actually pretty high quality. TCL is a name you may be familiar with: they're a very successful television company.

Their mobile phone division, of course creates these smartphones, and the good thing about this is that TCL actually uses its display technology on the TCL range of smartphones as well, including this device. Here they have their next vision technology and what that includes is amazing, color accuracy, SDR to HDR conversion, so you can actually view content like even stream content on Netflix HDR content on Netflix, and it looks great on this 20 by 8 aspect ratio screen, so I think for it for a device where you're looking at the display all day long. This does offer some great quality for the price. Now, on top of all that, this is also a 5g product, as well so for under 500 Australian dollars, you're getting not only a great design, a great screen, a triple camera system, but also 5g connectivity, but let's take a look at the design as well. This is what we've got here.

It is pretty slick. It's got this two-tone pattern on the back here triple camera system. That's made up of a 48 megapixel 8, megapixel and 2 megapixel camera there's also a flash here, but you can see there. It has some really nice curved edges. It also has the volume button on the side here.

This is the power button that also doubles as the fingerprint reader. So as you're opening the phone, and I'll do it right now, you unlock the phone and your hand naturally goes to that position on the phone. So it's really easy to unlock the phone I'll. Do that once again, so you can unlock it really quickly, but you can see from it might not be doing it justice on through on this video, but the screen is actually really nice quality so and for the price. I think that that's a pretty attractive feature for customers, but, as you can see, it does have those curved edges that sort of make way for these buttons on the side.

It also has it has a headphone jack on top as well reason. That's important is because the TCL 25g is capable of high-res audio. So if you've got a pair of headphones, you can connect them directly to the device and hear that higher quality audio. It also has apex Qualcomm chip on board as well, which gives you higher quality Bluetooth as well. So you can wirelessly from source to your compatible.

Earphones. You'll also be able to hear that high-res quality as well, but let's just take a look at the camera system here there are three different cameras here, and they're capable of low light photography. Uh one is an ultra-wide camera. One is a macro camera as well. Now, on the front, this is the is an eight megapixel camera on the front.

This is what they call the display. This is what they call their dodge, display I'll, bring it up a bit closer here, so you can see it. So it's! I think it's a combination of dot and notch. So that's why they call it the dodge. So there's a punch there for the eight megapixel front-facing camera, but on the back uh, the triple camera system works really well.

The pictures uh that it can take the system adds a lot of punch, a lot of brightness to the color. So I think it uses the artificial intelligence on board to optimize the images you get from the camera you can, if you prefer, have it in manual mode so that you're, not you, you have a bit more control. If you don't the point and shoot version of the images you get are actually quite bright, and it looks like they've kind of been photoshopped, but if you prefer to take manual control, if you prefer that more subtle look to your photos or that sort of more understated look than you've, or you've got all the control to be able to do that. The front-facing camera is eight megapixels and also has portrait mode which uh for an eight megapixel front-facing camera. It does take some pretty smart images, including this image of me in portrait mode.

I thought this was pretty good. I just took this in my backyard, had good lighting, and I'm pretty happy with the result there. The other thing to remember is this: is 5g it's a 5g device under 500, so 5g here in Australia, it has is reaching a nearly 75 of the population in the next couple of months. So having that in your pocket kind of future proofs, your purchase a little so 5g. If, whichever carrier you choose, you are going to get coverage in a lot of places, which means faster data transfers, faster data upload download streaming, whatever you need to do, you're helped if you're out in the wild with 5g, and, as I said it is increasing, the footprint is increasing on the battery side.

There's a 4500 William hour battery, which in our testing was good for a day and a half it was. It was really lasted, lasted a long time, pretty efficient the way it uses its power. I think that's due to the eight nanometer processor, the caulk, the snapdragon 5g processor, on board means it's really snappy performance. You can easily get open and close apps. It's really, really fast scrolling between all your apps and everything that you need to look at it.

It is a pretty snappy performance, you're, not gonna, you're, not gonna, be waiting for apps to open it. Furthermore, it's actually very, very the performance is, is very impressive for, for a phone of this price you've got to remember this is a sub 500 phones. So what I like to do is to show people I said, look tell me: what do you think this phone is worth, and they take a look at it? They look at the design, and they were saying to me 7.99 8.99, and then, when I told them it was only 4.99. They were really surprised because it does have that design and look of a flagship device. It does have that great display as well, that next vision display TCL.

Remember they make TV so hello. Their technology is in this display. So I think that is too and, like I said this isn't doing it justice for you seeing the screen like you are now seeing this with your own eyes, you'll be really impressed in the quality of the screen. Camera system also pretty good, triple camera system. There things it doesn't have it's not.

It's not water resistant and dust resistant, it doesn't have wireless charging, but I think still offers a lot of bang for your buck. For under 500 the TCL 25g, it's a great mid-tier phone, an affordable phone just proves. Once again, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to have flagship features. The TCL 25g really delivers on all those things: customers looking for design, screen, quality, the camera, and it's got a decent battery life as well, and all for under 500 bucks.
