Google Pixel 5 Vs Google Pixel 4a! (Comparison) (Review)

Welcome back everyone time to do, I guess the first comparison, or maybe the second one of the brand new Google Pixel 5 compared to another phone that is not in the same league, but it's kind of its predecessor, the Google Pixel 4a. Now surprisingly, I got some things wrong with my initial unboxing on the pixel 5, which I'll fix in this video. But these two phones roughly, are you know brothers and sisters, one another, but the price tag is something that's very interesting. The Pixel 4a is selling for 349.00 new. Now this is not the 5g model. This is just a standard model with the pixel 5, on the other hand, is selling for 699 dollars brand new.

Now you can tell side by side, if you kind of looked at them and kind of looked away for a second you probably wouldn't tell which one is which they both kind of look exactly the same, but you can kind of tell side by side. There are a couple of differences. The pixel 5 overall is the bigger phone, but design wise. They are roughly around the same now. I can definitely tell you the pixel 5 is the better feeling one it's built better, so that is something that the pixel 5 is going for it.

The Pixel 4a, though, for that price tag is a very interesting phone for sure. Now I'll go ahead and start off with the front of the Pixel 4a this phone, and also, if you want to pick either of these up, links will be down in the description below you can get them from there and help support the channel at the same time now, starting off with the front panel. Obviously, the Pixel 4a has a 5.81 inch, OLED display it's a HDR panel. I guess it's 1080p, and it's actually a pretty decent panel. I think the very cool thing about the Pixel 4a is that you don't have to spend a crazy amount of money to have a pretty decent panel and just a couple of years ago, to even get a phone that looked like this.

You had to pay like a thousand dollars for it at least like 800 or something now. Our budget phones are looking like this, which is awesome. You have that hole, punch display up top with the camera, and I think overall, this panel looks good. It doesn't feel cheap, it doesn't look cheap and that is definitely the pixel.4 is one of its biggest advantages for sure it doesn't feel bad or anything like that, which is something I really do like about this budget phone. The pixel 5.

On the other hand, do you know, cost a little more money, but you are getting that six inch, OLED display and what's really cool about this panel, that the know Pixel 4a doesn't have. Is that it's also a 1080p panel. So I got to get that out of the way, but it has that 90 hertz refresh rate, which we also saw in the pixel 4. So really when you're scrolling through things and everything it makes it feel that much smoother it doesn't make the phone inherently that much faster or anything, but compared to side by side. You won't be able to tell over the camera, but you can definitely see when you're, using it day by day that that motion smoothness, that you have on the pixel 5 really adds that much more character and just that much more.

You know intuitively. If that's a word to the Google Pixel 5, and I really do like that about this phone. I love it, and it's definitely one of my favorite features for sure. So definitely in terms of the front, the Pixel 4a is good, but the pixel 5 definitely wins there. On the bottom, we have USB type c ports on both pretty much the exact same setup and on the back you can see we have a dual camera setup on the pixel 5, but a single camera setup on the Pixel 4a fingerprint sensors in pretty much the exact same place.

Now I will say the Pixel 4a is pretty much primarily built out of plastic. It doesn't feel extremely, extremely cheap, but it does feel cheaper than something like the pixel 5. This phone, on the other hand, is built to the pixel 5. It's built out of aluminum, but honestly it has this texture to it. That makes it feel a little weirder.

I don't know what it feels like, but it definitely doesn't feel like aluminum like I know, aluminum phones like I've owned like iPhone, for example, the success is built out of aluminum or something this one. On the other hand, I mean it feels okay, but I don't know I don't know what they did with the texture outside it, but I still think the pixel 5 feels more premium than the Pixel 4a, but I still think the Pixel 4a for the price tag is actually not that bad at all. So in terms of the outside that really pretty much covers it up, and I'll go ahead and hit on the software super quickly. I mean they both as far as I know, we're probably going to be getting it around the same software updates. Maybe the Pixel 4a will end at the same time as the pixel 4.

That's probably what makes the most sense, and eventually we'll get a pixel 5a and everything, and then the pixel 5 will last as long as the pixel 5. But, honestly, that's not even a bad thing. The Pixel 4a is still going to be lasting for quite a bit of time. It's not like it's going to be outdated tomorrow, so that is something that's a huge asset for this device. The pixel 5, on the other hand, is going to be lasting for a long time.

Both these phones are probably going to be getting. You know, custom, ROMs and all that stuff too, so that's another pretty big asset for it, but I'll definitely tell you if it's between both these phones. Obviously I would recommend getting a pixel 5 because of the software experience and the software life cycle, but even the Pixel 4a is still going to be lasting quite a bit of time. So you can't really go wrong with either one of these they're google's on phones. They purposely make the software and everything perfect on them.

So you don't really have to worry about constantly. You know. Oh, is this phone going to get updates or not or when? Is it whatever? It's basically going to be updated for a very long time? So in terms of that, that really pretty much covers it up, and I'll go ahead and do a little of a speed test between them and now on the Pixel 4a. You have that Qualcomm snapdragon 730 g chipset, outscore CPU, the arena 618 GPU, and the six gigs of ram on the Pixel 4a or on the Google Pixel 5. We have that Qualcomm snapdragon 765 g chipset, an outscore CPU and arena 620, GPU and 8 gigabytes of ram on this phone.

So let's go ahead and see which one is the fastest one between these two phones, okay, and I got them side by side. So let me go and clear out all these apps. In the background, it's probably going to take like two seconds: okay, hopefully I cleared them out. The pixel 4 is being really weird. It keeps bringing up the same four apps, but I think they're already out.

So I guess we'll see what happens. Let's do phone calls three two one, and actually, I think the Pixel 4a was faster there. That was surprising messages. Three two one and I think again the pixel 40 may have been faster. Maybe I may have opened it up before on here, like back in the day, play store three two one, and definitely that's when you start to see the pixel 5 being the faster one scrolling through.

You can see that the pixel 5 definitely looks way smoother than the Pixel 4a, and I'm surprised, because even the pixel vibe doesn't have that crazy of a new chipset, but definitely even scrolling through and scrolling forward. The Pixel 4a definitely looks a little glitchier overall than the pixel 5. Even from that basic test, chrome, 321, pixel 5 again is faster Pixel 4a a little after chrome camera 321, and this one was a little tough, I mean. Maybe the 4a was a little faster there. Now I have a bunch of these third-party apps that we can go and test.

Let's do twitter three two one and the 4a was a little faster there, and I wanted to show you guys, even like kind of slouching out of these apps like this, not even that big of a difference there either, which is really huge snake versus blocks three, two one, it's so funny. I still use this game because this game is so old and, like nobody plays with it anymore, I think the Pixel 4a was actually faster, that I looked away for a second and getting some gameplay. You can see about the same, not really a big difference, but that was a pretty big difference. I think for the Pixel 4a there we do temple run two three two one, and you can see the pixel 5 did end up eventually getting into it a little faster than the Pixel 4a, and you can see the u4a is like right behind it, not a ginormous difference, but you know if you're going day by day, and you're opening a billion of these apps, then you may see eventually a pretty big difference, but I think it's pretty much. Okay.

To be honest, two one: okay, I think the pixel 5 may have been a little faster. There BFA three, two one and even there you saw pixel 5 was faster. Pixel 4a was right behind it, fruit, ninja three, two one. Hopefully I don't have to, and it's so weird they both close out three two ones. Oh, wait.

Okay, maybe I guess not! I don't know what happened there. Okay, as you can see, the pixel 5 did end up going out. I don't know what it is with this specific game. It just glitches up on both phones, which I really don't like. I don't even know how to fix it.

Quizlet 321, like I've, tried like updating and everything it doesn't work. Pixel 5 was faster there. We can do real racing three, two one, let's see how this one goes and animations, I think, may be a little smoother on the pixel 5. But, as you can see, we have to download on both, which is really weird and that's the same percentage too. I guess we can go and just end it there.

I mean it's kind of tough, because I don't really think one was way faster than the other one or one was way slower. They both are kind of the same. I can go back to the beginning. Okay, they both handled that one pretty well, let's keep going back a little more messages. They both handled that one pretty well, let's keep going.

Let's do play store, so there we did see that the know Pixel 4a did end up. You know exiting out of the pixel of the app store and the pixel 5 ended up, keeping in that's probably one of the bigger differences. I think the ram, speed and performance, I think, was hand in hand on both one didn't really win every single time, but it was kind of close. The Pixel 4a is not going to do as well in ram management, so keep that in mind, but I'll probably give the overall. You know performance to the pixel 5, but the pixel 4 still had its own for sure like it was very close.

So in terms of that, that pretty much covers it up, let me go and hit on the cameras now, like I said before, the Pixel 4a has a single camera setup. It's a 12.2 megapixel lens with the pixel 5, has a 12.2, megapixel, wide angle lens and then a 16 megapixel ultra-right sensor, so we're going away from that telephoto lens we had last year now we have an ultra white sensor here, which is really huge. You can do 4k at 30 on the Pixel 4a, but you can do 4k at 60 on the pixel 5, which is a huge thing to note. Now. Looking on the cameras on both, you can see that we pretty much have the same type of layout on both phones.

I mean we have the cameras right here and, like I said before, even if you look side by side right here, you can see on the left of the pixel 5. We have you know the standard zoom lens that we can do, but we also have that ultrawide sensor, which is right here, and we can go and modify it. If you go here. If we go here, you can see that now we don't have that that type of capability on the Pixel 4a, because it only has one lens and even side by side, I'm starting to see maybe the pixel 5's camera is a little cooler with the pixel 4's. Camera is a little warmer under the video options.

You can also see. I think the haptics are much better on the pixel 5 as well. You can go and see how many more options we have on the pixel 5 slow motion time-lapse. We don't really have that on the Pixel 4a, as you guys can see now under the more options. Hopefully we do have more options, and it doesn't really look like it looks like we have more options on the Pixel 4a, so we still have photo sphere panorama slow motion, so we do have slow motion still on here.

Time-lapse, but it just seems like they moved that over to here. So keep that in mind. I think I was kind of wrong now in terms of the camera quality of this device. I always thought that the Pixel 4a actually had a pretty decent camera setup on it. It's not a crazy nice camera or anything like that, like it's, not going to blow your socks off, but I thought it was pretty okay, especially compared to a lot of other budget phones out there.

I think it did a pretty decent job. You know, but I think the pixel 5 does a better job, but I'll get there in a second. I think the pixel 4 is actually a pretty decent camera for the price again 350 dollars like that is a perfect price to pay for this type of phone. If you remember back in the day, we had phones like the nexus 5 and the nexus 4 that I think were around 400 and those cameras were probably one of the worst ones of that year, if I'm being honest and this phone is actually a decent camera setup for even cheaper than what that phone was at that time. So that's a pretty big deal, but the pixel 4ac camera is actually pretty decent with the pixel 5.

On the other hand, I think actually has a better camera not only than the Pixel 4a, but it's actually a pretty good camera and you guys could probably already see some of the differences I mean like from going from the Pixel 4a to the pixel 5. I was already able to see some pretty big differences just from this quick little comparison and even zooming in obviously you don't get that you know zooming in option, but ultra-wide. That's something! That's huge, whether you want you know just a little ultra light sensor. You want something bigger. You still have that type of capability on a phone like a Google Pixel 5, where you don't really have that ultra white sensor on the Pixel 4a.

So that may be a big deal to you, I'm just kind of the messenger. I'm just going to allow you to know that. But that is something that may be huge to you. So in terms of the camera setup and definitely the pixel 5 wins now ending it off with the battery life. The Pixel 4a has a three thousand one hundred and forty million power battery.

The pixel five, on the other hand, has a four thousand eighty million power battery now the battery life itself. I can definitely tell you the Pixel 4a actually had pretty decent battery life. I thought it was pretty good now. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that, are you going to enable that 90 hertz refresh rate aka that variable refresh rate on the pixel 5. ? It goes from 90 hertz down to 60 and 60 to 90, back and forth over and over again.

So if you're, okay with that, you can definitely save some battery there. But if you keep that 90 hertz on all the time that will take a toll on the battery life, but I still found myself getting not only better battery life but better standby time on the Google Pixel 5 than on the Google Pixel 4a. I've had this phone for a couple of days now and that kind of seemed to be the case, but I still think the Pixel 4a's battery life is actually pretty good. Now the biggest thing to keep in mind in this specific situation is that the pixel 5 does have a wireless charging and apparently reverse charging. I don't think it's a reverse wireless charging, but it does offer reverse charging, which is really cool the Pixel 4a.

I don't really you don't even have wireless charging on this device, which honestly kind of sucks. Furthermore, I wish it was the case I wish you could have some wireless charging here, but the fact of the matter is that we don't and there's really nothing we can do about it. So, in terms of battery life, I may give the edge to the pixel 5, but even in battery features and overall just battery, I will give the edge to the pixel 5, but I still think the pixel 4 is perfect for the 350 dollar. You're going to pay for it. I think it's actually pretty good, and you're getting pretty decent battery life from that standpoint.

So, in terms of battery life that pretty much covers it up now to kind of sum up this whole entire video and to answer the question: should you pick up the Pixel 4a? Should you get the pixel 5? Let me go and break it down. Let me give you the pros and cons for the Pixel 4a. First, for 350 dollars, there's really no way you can go really much better than this. If you get a sc2, I mean you're, giving up some things, you're getting some things. Basically, I think the main area that the Pixel 4a kind of lacks in is just the build quality.

It doesn't feel that great the screen looks pretty good. Just the build quality doesn't feel that great, but another thing is, is probably maybe just you know the camera: it's not that great the battery life, no wireless charging, it's not the best performing device. You can probably pick up like a Galaxy S10 for like 300 400, and it's probably even better performing than this thing, but I don't think it's a bad performing device and for overall you can't really go wrong with it. But I think when you go to something like the pixel 5, that's when things start to become kind of a better deal. You know you for 6.99, it's a lot of money and honestly, at that price point I would rather get like a used Samsung Galaxy s20 that costs less than this thing brand new, but you're still getting a lot of things from this specific phone you're getting a great display. I think, even though it's only 1080p, it looks pretty good and even just the front panel.

It just looks better than the Pixel 4a over the camera. It's kind of hard to tell when I'm looking at an angle, I'm kind of starting to see how much more premium the pixel 5 feels and looks, but even this one doesn't feel as great as something like that s20, but I'll get into that later on. I guess in a different video, the camera on this phone is actually pretty good you're, getting that ultrawide sensor over this phone you're, getting wireless charging and reverse charging from this phone and better battery life. In my opinion, on this device, ram management is also better on this phone, which is another huge asset for it. The pixel 4, I think, is great for the price and I think the pixel 5 is pretty okay for the price, but it's fascinating.

I'm more hyped up about the was probably more hyped up about the Pixel 4a from that price point than I was about the pixel 5 from its price point like I think, it's great and all, but I think this phone price per value is probably a better deal than this one, but this phone happens to be the better phone, so that's kind of how it sum it up. Like I said, if you guys want to pick it up, links will be down in the description below that's really pretty much it if you guys have any other questions or anything.
