Google Pixel 5 + 4a 5G Unboxing (vs Pixel 4, 4a, 3a!)

It's October, which means two things: pumpkins and pixels. Today we are unboxing the pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5g, let's dive right in all right. So here we have the pixel 5 on the right, Pixel 4a 5g on the left, and we're just going to do a standard unboxing, because why not, so we're going to turn them around, and we're going to tear off these tabs? I do like that. The pixels always come with these really nice easy to open tabs and let's see, if I can there, we go all right. So here we have the two phones, we're gonna: let's do the pixel 4 a5g first, because this is, I think, the less interesting of the two. So you can see here it is covered in plastic.

It looks very much like a larger Pixel 4a because it is a larger Pixel 4a, and you know you can see it this black color. It only comes in one color, it's matte, it's glinting in the light, and we can take off the plastic and there you go. Let's get a closer look at that camera module there we go yeah. So we have a dual lens camera system on the pixel 4 a5g, separate from the single lens system on the Pixel 4a, but we'll get into that a little later so right now, let's just turn this on, and we'll wait here. Is the pixel 5.

All right, so we have same idea, but this is the sort of sage color you can see. It really hits the light nicely, and it's a small phone. This is a really, really nice small one-handable phone. So let's take off that plastic like we did with the 4a 5g, and I will turn this to the light to get a better sense of that. Color is just beautiful.

There's a fascinating, matte aluminum texture here very different from anything. I've used before same dual camera setup on the back, there's a fingerprint sensor on the back. This is capacitive like the 4a, it's flush, so it's it might be a little hard to activate unless you have a case on here to kind of delineate, but we won't really know until we try. You can see there's a glossy power button as opposed to the matte finish, so that's one way to differentiate the power button from the volume rocker, and we'll turn this on and while we're waiting we'll see what else is in the box. Okay, so these boxes should be identical, got some papers.

We got the standard, pixel loadout of a sim ejector tool, some documentation, nothing really that important. Put that to the side. Both phones have the same 18 watt charger same 18, watt charger. In fact, that's been in the box since the original pixel. This is an 18 watt, USB c charger.

It is power delivery. So you know it's really not impressive. By today's standards, the OnePlus 8t is rumored to have a 65 watt warp charge and many other phones support up to 45 watts. But you know this is a pixel. Google doesn't really go for numbers, it goes for safety and 18 watts charges your phone in two hours, and you know it does the trick.

We also have USB-C to USB-C cable, both boxes and an USB a where's. My camera lens USB a to USB adapter for transferring your files all right. Let's put all of this aside and let's compare these phones to some other pixels. Shall we all right so to start things off we're going to take a look at the pixel 5's hardware? So you can see this is the sage, green or sorta sage version of the phone. It also comes in the same black as the pixel, 4a and 4a5g, and you know just from the outset.

Its design is pretty similar to what you saw earlier this year in the Pixel 4a. In fact, it's pretty indistinguishable from the front other than the fact that it has slightly smaller bezels. You can see just around the edges there. The bezels are ever so slightly smaller than on the 4a, but it has that left center or that left oriented, selfie camera. It doesn't look like it's any smaller on the pixel four in the pixel 5, then the 4a around back.

You can see the fingerprint sensor is in the same spot and even the camera module looks the same. It's just slightly smaller on the Pixel 4a. That's to accommodate the second uh lens, the second sensor on the pixel 5. , but ultimately these are extremely similar devices, and they look very similar they're. You know the pixel 5 is, I believe, identical in height and pretty close in thickness as well.

So you know not a lot to differentiate them now. Obviously, the pixel 5 has that aluminum frame aluminum back and while you can't really tell because this is painted, there's a really nice matte texture here it seems to be resistant to fingerprints, which is cool, but ultimately it comes down. To you know: is this going to wear the same way as a glass phone or a plastic phone, because we don't really see a lot of aluminum phones on the market anymore? So this will be interesting to see how, in a year from now this holds up now compared to the pixel 4. This is a little wider, it's slightly shorter because it doesn't have that solely hardware in the top and overall, I just think it looks cleaner, it's much less prone to fingerprints, as you can tell. I just wiped this before I shot this video and the camera module is identical.

Looking except the selfie uh sorry, the flash module is inverted and there's that flicker sensor on the bottom now on the pixel 5, rather than on the top on the pixel 4, but as you've as you may have heard, the pixel 5 has an ultra-wide lens, as opposed to the telephoto on the pixel 4. Now, obviously, you would think that, because they are around the same thickness around the same height around the same width that the pixel 4 would have the same or the pixel 5 would have the same size battery as the pixel 4, but if you've ever owned a pixel 4. You know that google did a lot of work to increase the battery capacity on the pixel 5, because the 4 was terrible in terms of battery life. This phone has a 4 080 William hour battery, which is significantly larger than the 2800 William hour battery on the pixel 4. This even has a bigger battery than the one on the Pixel 4 XL, which you can see just dwarfs the pixel 5.

In basically every dimension um, although to be honest, I am one of the few people who loves this orange creamily color on the Pixel 4 XL, I'm kind of sad that it didn't make its way over to the pixel 5 series. But you know maybe next year orange will be back in fashion. I do love this green though it is just a beautiful, beautiful, green. Let's take a look at the hardware of the Pixel 4a 5g see it's 6.2 inch 1080p display slightly larger than the six-inch on the pixel 5. The bezels around the phone's screen are slightly larger on the 4a 5g and overall it just feels a little more uh like a value phone.

It does not have wireless charging, it does not have ipv68 water and dust resistance like the pixel 5 does, but you are getting the same platform you're, getting the snapdragon 765 g you're, getting the same, identical cameras, two on the back one on the front. You have the 12 megapixel main sensor and a 16 megapixel ultra-wide sensor. Um. You also get an 8 megapixel selfie camera on the front, so the camera taking experience should be identical. Furthermore, you have six gigs of ram in the 4a 5g and 8 gigs in the pixel 5, but otherwise they are pretty similar, so you're not really losing much going from the Pixel 4a to the pixel from the pixel 5 to the Pixel 4a.

Both of them obviously have 5g. That's what google has been touting since the release of the Pixel 4a earlier this year, and otherwise the pixel 5 has a slightly larger battery. The Pixel 4a 5g has an 85 William hour battery, but, to be honest, both of them will probably get you more than a full day, given that the Pixel 4a has just a 30 3080 William hour battery and still lasts all day on that snapdragon 730, so lots to look forward to here with the hardware a couple more comparisons I just wanted to make. This is to last year's Pixel 3a. So this is the purplish version you can see just how different the design is, but still colorful.

It's got that beautiful, yellow power button that everybody loved, and it's much taller, obviously than the pixel 5, but that's because the bezels above and below the display are significantly larger, and then we also have the pixel 3, which is smaller, actually uh. Well, it's about the same. It's only a millimeter or two taller, but it's narrower and it just it doesn't feel quite as substantial as the pixel 5, and then I do also have a pixel 3xl somewhere, but you know I don't really need to show that to you. It's not that relevant. So this is the pixel 5.

Let me see if I can pick out the pixel 4 a5g there. It is. This is the pixel 4 a5g. These are two phones that we are really excited to dig into and review and overall I just think that google nailed it this year on pricing. This is 699 dollars, the Pixel 4a 5g is 499, and you get a ton of value from both of these devices.

So let us know in the comments what you want to hear, specifically in the review. What questions you want answered? What comparisons? Camera comparisons, other comparisons you want to see in our subsequent coverage, because we are going to have a lot of that in the next few days and weeks. My name is Daniel worse. Thank you so much for watching this very impromptu unboxing, because we weren't sure we were going to be allowed to do this. So thanks for dealing with the rougher quality than usual on the ac channel, we look forward to bringing you that top-notch quality very, very soon.

Do you?.
