Finally, the perfect pixel, the Google device that I've always been longing for is finally here what's up everybody, this is Scott. Welcome back to another video time out a second, you read the title right. This is the long-term review of the Pixel 4a. So let's run a little of tape. First well, today is June 5th, friday, June 5th, specifically, and yesterday this little guy showed up. For me, this is the Google Pixel 4a.
That's right. I have been using this device for more than two months at this time, so yeah. I can confidently tell you everything that I loved some things that I didn't like about it and what I truly feel about this using this device as my everyday driver for a couple of months at this point. So today's video is not an unboxing or an first impression or anything like that, but the Pixel 4a is the pixel I have wanted for a long time. So, let's just straight jump into the review.
The first thing I want to talk about is the fact that is an all plastic design. So yeah, it is all plastic. It's one of those things that to keep the costs low, you can't really have like glass and aluminum and metal, and all that other jazz, but to be completely honest, doesn't bother me in the least the one downfall with that is obviously being plastic. It has no wireless charging which a bit of a bummer, because I have a pixel stand, but you know hey whatever I just get past the fact that that's what it's made of this is a very small phone compared to that of its older cousin, the Pixel 4 XL. So from an aesthetic perspective, once you get past the plastic, it's a small footprint.
You look on the screen right now. You see that little dot, that's in the upper left, hand corner and that's your front facing camera now. This is a lot of screen real estate in comparison to the 3a and the 3axl last year, and it's definitely a physically smaller footprint, but you're getting a lot of screen for just the footprint that it's in flip this over to the back, and you can see that you have the slightly blue power button that I initially thought was white, the regular old fingerprint sensor on the back, and I'll tell you. I missed the fingerprint sensor so badly and especially now during the whole covet epidemic. The idea that, if I look at the screen, I don't have to worry about actually typing in my code or my pattern, or anything like that, because I have a fingerprint scanner on the back.
So it is like an old friend that gave me a nice warm hug. When I came back a lot like Olaf, the screen on the front is nice and crispy and clear. One thing I do wish the display did was get brighter seems like all pixels, just suck at getting really bright. For whatever reason, that's probably my biggest thing with the display is the fact that just doesn't get as bright in the sunlight as I wish it would definitely compare to like an iPhone or an iPhone SE. It just doesn't get as bright.
That's the only thing I don't like about the display at all other than that the phone is absolutely perfection so with that being said, what's some specs of it? So this has six gigs of ram, and you can see the chipset on screen right now. It also has 128 gigs of storage, and it comes this price point. You have a single shooter on the back, which I thought initially when I was doing the whole single shooter type thing. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I'm going to show you some videos from the front in the rear in today's video, as well as a kind of sneak peek to what I have coming out later this week, that single shooter on the back. It is no slouch at all.
Now. Let's talk about performance and battery again the thing from the 3a and the 3xl last year was the fact that the battery life- it was the champ and the 4a is no slouch at all. When it comes to the battery it barely sips the battery. I do multiple video calls per day, multiple skype, MS Teams, Google Duo, tweeting, uh Instagrammer, you name it. I am putting this thing through the paces.
It does do gaming as well, I'm not a huge gamer, but the games that I do play like Roblox with my kids, no issues at all chugs right through it, and again it sips the battery compared to a lot of the other phones. In this price point. I do have a video coming out later this week, and you can check in one of the things up top I'm going to actually create a specific pixel, 4a playlist. It's going to be comparisons to the iPhone SE, comparisons to the 3axl in comparisons to the 4xl as well. Just so you can see exactly how this thing stands up when you do a little of a competition between these other phones.
So from a performance perspective for what I use it for it was no slouch at all. I recorded in 4k, I recorded in 1080p 60 frames a second I had multiple video calls. I did a lot of things to this, and I barely sipped the battery at all lots of times. Furthermore, I was getting anywhere between six and a half and seven and a half hours of screen on time, and I would still have somewhere around 17 to 22 of the battery life again more than enough for even me, more of a hardcore user of a phone to go the entire day, and I don't have to worry at all about the battery life crapping out on me. The best part is because it does have a little of a quick charge to it.
I can plug it into my regular pixel charger and get a pretty good boost of energy and even a modest 15 minutes. I can go probably 20 25, at least for me when I'm using the 4a charger on it and can go that fast. So more than enough for me to go an entire day, and even if I need a quick top off, I can go 15 20 minutes on a charger and more than make it through the rest of the evening. So I talked about the aesthetics in the body and I talked about the performance and the battery life. But let's talk about another big thing: it is a pixel.
After all, so what's the camera, and what's the video like on it? So from a camera perspective, it really runs straight up against the 4xl, which I think is still a great photography phone. When I put this thing in portrait mode, it matches and sometimes even gets better portrait modes than that of its older cousin, the 4xl and there's no question I'll. Just say it right now from a portrait mode perspective, the iPhone SE 2020 does not hold a candle to the 4xl, and I have a video that will prove that so check the playlist that I mentioned before I mean from my perspective. The 4a is a way better buy at the price point compared to the iPhone SE. Because of how much great stuff that you're getting with the 4xl, the photos are better, and even the video has gotten better, and here is a quick snippet from a video in my future.
That proves that, so both of these devices are a front-facing uh, 1080p 30 frames per second shooter, so yeah everything you see here on the front-facing camera is 30 frames, a second 1080p. So when I compare a lot of other android devices to the 4a that I have in my pocket when it comes to the crispiness of audio, when I'm filming video, I'm telling you right now, the 4a finally got the audio figured out when it comes to the video on a pixel line. The video is nice crisp and clear, good, warm, vibrant colors. I'm really overwhelmingly impressed at how much better the video has gotten on the 4a compared to the 4xl and compared to the 3a and every other generation of pixel. Before this, the video recording and the audio in that video recording is night and day better.
It is the best sounding video that I've ever heard a pixel record on legit. I don't have to use an external mic like this to get good audio with the pixel. Finally, because they have like the audio zooming. It finally is perfect, which means that I think the 5, the pixel 5 is going to be just a powerhouse if they compare it to exactly what they've done in the 4a. I literally have no questions at all, using the 4a to record any type of vlog or anything like that, because it sounds phenomenal and here's a quick, very rough test to prove that this is just the audio from the phone.
Specifically. This is just straight up the microphone. That's inside the lg v60 thin q, so the body is good. It's nice and plastic good and secure the performance in the battery life is exceptional. The photo and video experience is so much better.
It has a headphone jack. I forgot to even mention the fact that it has a headphone jack. Has the quick charging USB type-c and the price point is literally cheap. It is the in my opinion, the perfect pixel that is available right now. You can spend a fraction of the cost.
Definitely compared to either like a high-level iPhone or maybe something like a thin queue, you're spending a 50, if not greater price, to get the best pixel on the market. Right now, I am overwhelmingly happy with using the 4a constantly the one thing that drives me: the biggest crazy is the fact that I just don't have a bigger screen. I would have loved a XL version of the 4a, because I like a big phone for just watching media. That is the only bad thing that I can say about it. A lot of people are going to be like what about the whole wireless charging thing? What about that? Because the SC has that look, I don't care about the wireless charging and I have a pixel stand.
Is it nice sure a lot of time? For me, I have a charger sitting right here. Let me pull up the cord. I have a charger sitting right here, because I want to be on my phone while I'm using it. If I'm doing wireless charging, I actually have to set it down, and I don't want to do that because I'm trying to use my phone. So for me, it's just like a whatever I live without it for a long time.
I don't really care the only thing that I didn't like about. It was the fact I would love a bigger screen, but honestly, with the little teardrop thingy they have in the upper left-hand corner. I don't care like it's fine. It is the perfect pixel. Finally, google you nailed it like just straight up nailed it.
I would recommend the 4a to anybody looking to get into an android device at all. If you want to save cash, 4a, no question, you want good video and good audio and good photos.4A no question! I can't even recommend the 4xl, the last year's flagship over this, because the 4a is just that good. So, in summary, by the 4a, this is my long-term review. I haven't had any issues at all in the last two months, I'm overwhelmingly spewing my love for Google. So call me a fanboy in the comments all you want, but once you get this device in your hand, you're going to feel the exact same way unequivocally you buy this way before you buy an iPhone SE, and then I can hear people going the 4k 60.
You know what you're not filming, 4k 60 that much. I promise you that if that is what you're doing go buy another device, because you need to be doing something else, but for the average user I'm telling you right now 4a hands down. So that's it! That's all! I have checked the thing in the description below for all of my pixel 4 content and yeah. That's it that's all. I have thanks for watching, as always as share subscribe, thumbs up, leave a comment below I'll see you next time.
