Google Pixel 4a 5G VS Apple iPhone SE (2020) In 2021! Which Is The Better Mid-Ranger?

Yo, what is up guys today we're going to be talking about the pixel 4 a5g versus the iPhone SE 2020. I got a question which one should you get both of these are really excellent. Uh, you know mid-range devices here, so let's go ahead and break it down uh, so the SE 2020 costs brand new around 400 bucks uh. This phone is around 300 bucks right now, refurbished or used. That is the one that I have here. The Pixel 4a also is around 400 bucks around 450 bucks actually and uh refurbished.

It's like around close to like 380 so uh. Those are the prices, and I'll put those down below. So let's go ahead and talk about the hardware on both of these phones uh. So with the iPhone SE, you have a glass and metal design here, and it feels perfect in the hand. Uh feels definitely like still a premium device.

Uh. The Pixel 4a is a plastic body pretty much, but it doesn't feel super cheap. I like that they went with a matte uh back on here, so you don't pick up fingerprints and stuff like that. The camera module looks perfect. It looks modern.

I think the Pixel 4a looks slightly a little more modern than the sc2020. Now, as far as the front design, I do think the Pixel 4a does look, definitely more modern. I think it looks better with the slimmer bezels, the more you know, full screen design with the Sancho, as opposed to sort of the older iPhone design, which a lot of people don't really mind, which I found uh surprising when it first came out a lot of people don't mind the sort of older iPhone, 7 8 design on this phone, which is fine. It is one of the rare compact phones uh these days. So it really comes down to personal preference here, but design wise.

I think they're both pretty good, looking phones, but the SE does feel a little premier uh premiere. It does feel a little more premium than the uh, the 4a for sure just to go around each uh device. We have our power button on the right hand, side both of these phones have stereo speakers which we will uh test out, and you have USB type-c and apple's charging uh port right here. You have your volume rockers in a mute vibration switch on the uh s e all right. So let's talk about the display on both of these phones.

So on the 4a, you have a 6.2 inch OLED display 1080p 413 for the PPI. It's an always on display on the SE. You have a much smaller 4.7 inch, retina IPS, and that is 720p plus 326 for the PPI. So I'm not going to knock the screen size on the SE, because there is a huge market of people that really want a small phone that you can literally one hand, and you know, use without having to shimmy the phone and all that stuff um. So but the screen quality is definitely better on the 4a for sure I always prefer an OLED display over an IPS.

Even though Apple does a perfect job. With this IPS panel, it's fairly bright, it looks good, just colors, look more vibrant on the 4a and also when you're watching videos in 1080p. It does look better on the 4a for sure, and it gives off a more immersive experience because you don't have you know these huge bezels on the 4a as well, so display quality definitely will give that to the pixel. Now, in terms of software, you will be super happy with both of these phones. Now I do think iPhones have a longer life expectancy as far as, as far as software updates than the um pixel phones do.

But when updates come out, you will be the first to get them on the pixel. That is what makes these phones great. So when android 12 comes out, you'll be one of the first to get it um, and it's running android 11 right now you have the snapdragon 765 g, arena, 620 processors, no SD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage and 6 gigs of ram on the SE, of course, you're running the latest version of iOS with the widgets and all that stuff. You also have the Apple A13 chip, which is a beast. It is really, really fast you're going to see that with this speed test, but this phone also does not have micro SD support, but it has much lower storage than uh the pixel.

So instead of the 128 gigs you're only getting 64 gigs with the SE, so much less storage here, and you also get less ram at three gigs, but iOS does a perfect job at managing ram. So that's not really a big deal. So let's go ahead and launch some applications and see how both of these phones do. So, let's go ahead and launch subway surfer. Three two one and you see how blazing fast this SE is.

It's super superfast. It's pretty much got like flagship quality, speed, uh on it for sure. So, let's go ahead and launch Instagram. It looked like the pixel got it there. Actually, let's try temple run the SC.

I feel like the pixel opens social media applications and stuff like that faster, because this processor is perfect at opening those type of applications really fast. So let me try something else. Like, let's try the play store in the app store, yeah see, the pixel beats it there. So it seems like if it's not a game uh the pixel will open it faster. Let's try both cameras.

Three two one, the SC got it there. My good amount of time. Actually now, let's go ahead and try temple run uh not temper, run but uh PUBG. Unless you got the graphic performance, how these two phones are going to play uh this game. What's the highest settings, we can get to looks like the 4a.

Oh, it looks like the iPhone got it there. It looked like it was going to be the 4a and then the iPhone just kind of jumped in front okay. So as far as graphic performance, this looks super uh. Let me turn the brightness up. Okay, so let's check out graphic performance.

So if you are, you know a gamer, then these phones can play games really well, so for pub g we can go HDR, and we can go on the iPhone. We can go all the way to ultra HD. I have to download it in the lobby, but on the um pixel we don't have that option us to go to ultra HD or even HDR. So it's only stuck it's stuck on HD, so you do have a more powerful phone for gaming on the SE graphic, wise and frame rate wise. I can definitely tell with the frame rates for sure uh.

So again, both phones are great, but the more powerful gaming phone here is definitely going to be the SC 2020 all right. So let's talk about your additional features, so you do have ip67 dust and water resistant on the iPhone. You can get this phone wet. It shouldn't break immediately, there's no IP rating on the pixel uh. You have NFC on both of these phones for mobile payments, uh, which is awesome as well and the fingerprint scanner.

So you have your fingerprint scanner on the front of the iPhone, which is very fast. It works touch ID we all know, but on both of these phones there is no face unlock option and yours is on the back of the pixel uh when it comes down to where you prefer. It honestly comes down to you whether you like it to be on the back or the front, if that is a completely personal preference there, but they're both very fast. Both of these phones have stereo speakers. So let's go ahead and check that out max volume, sure yeah, that's a hundred percent, the Pixel 4a.

It has a way, fuller, sound and sounds uh much better. The iPhone is very loud, but it does sound super flat with the bass and stuff like that and the mid and highs, and everything just sounds everything just sounds clear on the pixel like I can't describe it's like a fuller, sound yeah, definitely just way more bass on the pixel here, but both very good speakers and not distorting or anything like that, but the 4a does take it here when it comes to speaker quality for sure now another feature that the pixel does have, which kind of uh underrated these days, but a headphone jack. So you have a headphone jack up top. You have no headphone jack on the SE, so you have that option to use your wired headphones or use Bluetooth. That is something that I've always liked.

That is a reason why I love this phone. The v60 uh one of the flagships that has a headphone jack. Still, if you look most flashy phones, don't have them, but I know we're talking about mid-rangers here, I'm getting off-topic but yeah. So it does have a headphone jack uh, which is great. I know some of you guys are going to be like a wireless headphone, but if you're in your car- and you want to just plug in and play with your you know ox- it's just super easy to just plug it in without having to your know fiddle around with the dongle, so uh yeah.

So that's my take on it all right. So let's talk about the camera. So on the pixel, you have a 12.2 megapixel standard, a 16 megapixel ultra-wide 4k video 8, megapixel, selfie 1080p video on the iPhone. You have a 12 megapixel standard with 4k video and a 7 megapixel selfie uh. So what I like about the pixel is that you do have that wide angle lens on here, which is always nice to have, and you just have a single lens on the SE, and now I'm going to show you guys uh some photos, the best photos that you know I've taken on both of these phones.

Just so you can see the image quality, and then I'll talk about which one I kind of prefer more and you guys can kind of make up your mind which photos you like more okay. So for the photos I was really leaning towards the pixel uh. I just felt like dynamic range, was much better uh. The low light situations on the pixel uh was much better as well and overall I just preferred the steels on the pixel and when it came to the iPhone the both are. Let's just get this out of the way they both take, really great photos, and they're, both very, very close um, but I do prefer the pixel for stills and I 100 prefer the iPhone in terms of video quality and the mic quality, so the SC really does kill the pixel when it comes to video to me uh, but as far as stills, I do prefer the image processing on the pixel phones, but which one did you guys uh.

You know like. I just thought it was just a little sharper, especially on the front facing camera on the pixel. I just thought it was just way sharper and more color, accurate uh to me. Okay. So let's talk about battery life, so this is another area where uh the SC kind of struggles.

It's got a very small battery, a 1 821 William battery 18 watt fast charging. This phone actually does have wireless charging, which is really awesome so for a device at this price point. That is a really nice feature to have, and you also have a 3 85 William battery on the pixel, and that is an 18 watt. Uh fast charging as well uh, so basically the pixel definitely has better battery life. But again that's going to vary if you're, on 5g or not, but even if you're on 5g, I'm pretty sure the pixel should outlast the iPhone SE.

Even on 5g uh, the SC. I can probably squeeze around four to five hours of screen on time. Uh, it's definitely it's not really an all-day phone, you kind of have to charge it. The pixel is definitely an all-day phone. You can squeeze at least seven hours of screen on time out of this phone, no problem uh.

So what do you guys think be sure to? Let me know which phone did you guys prefer, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
