Galaxy S10 Plus vs Sony Xperia 1 - CAMERA Comparison! | The Tech Chap

Can, you guess where I am that's your only clue any guesses, it's Boston I'm in Boston, it's a beautiful day and I thought it would be a great opportunity to test out the cameras on the something galaxy s 10 plus versus the new Sony, Xperia x1, but in terms of quality stability and also how the phones are handling the dynamic range of the very bright sunlight in my face. Let me know which one you think is coming out on top, so both the Sony Xperia One and the S temp plus have tripled camera setups on the back with a main two times, telephoto and ultra-wide lens. The specs are fairly similar. Although there's some slight differences in the apertures side-by-side, then they both take great photos, particularly in good light, but straight away. The s 10 plus does stand out as being a bit brighter and also more vibrant. If we zoom in by 300% it's sharper too, you can see a lot more detail in the stonework and around the windows.

The experiment one does offer a slightly cooler, color temperature. Looking at the pavement and the bottom-left, the s 10 plus has a warmer tone, but I am drawn to the s 10 shot with its more vibrant colors and also looking at the building on the right and also the sky. It just seems to handle the brighter areas better. The sky is just blown out on the Sony moving on and the Massachusetts State House here just looks gorgeous I think the s10 handles the HDR a little better, with everything being a bit more evenly exposed, but it can come across as a bit flatter looking or blocky. In contrast, which do you prefer now, you can really see the differences between the two cameras here from the color of the sky.

To how dark the family around the table is at the bottom left. It does seem. The s10 is able to handle dynamic range, a lot better evening out darker and brighter areas into a more even well-lit, shot. Switching to the two x telephoto lens, the s10 shot, is again brighter. Just look at the tree in that ONG building at the bottom left.

And finally, we have the ultra-wide lens, and you can see a massive difference between them. Color temperature, brightness, contrast, I, think the sunny does offer more realistic colors, but personally I do prefer that brighter and more vibrant s-10 shot the Xperia one does hold its own though, and you wouldn't be disappointed with either of them. Although here the s10 Plus does offer a bit more detail in the dark two areas of my gray jeans and the background is a lot sharper. But what about portrait mode or live focus on the STM? Well straight away, you can see the difference in the field of view. The Sony uses the two times telephoto lens to take a portrait shot a bit like the iPhone 10s.

So it's cropped in a lot closer to my face. You could argue this sunny looks more like a portrait in terms of its composition, but this was shot with both phones side-by-side. Here's another example, this time with my partner Sarah, who I'm sure you'll agree, is a much better model than me for these tests. But again you can see the difference in the framing and the field of view. Arguably the s10 plus is more flexible, as I can take.

A portrait shot like this, or I could have physically moved closer to her and then get a similar shot to the exterior one. Now, let's test the three lenses again, but in trickier indoor lighting and again the highlights of that chandelier and even the other lights in the background are much better exposed on the STM plus. The Xperia 1 really seems to struggle with handling dynamic range, particularly in tricky lighting. So let's test them a bit more in low-light, and it's a beautiful sunset over the Boston Harbor, but just look at the difference in the color of the sky between them to my eye, I think the Xperia one is more true to life. The s10 plus is blue.

Purple hue doesn't look natural, but it is also significantly brighter than there's more detail in the dark areas. Again. This is a great example of the color difference between them. It's like the Xperia one goes from teal and the s10 plus goes for purple. I definitely prefer the look of the Sony's colors, though Sara's skin tones look far more natural, although you do get a bit more detail and contrast on the STM, particularly if you look at the boardwalk or the clouds in the background and this one, the difference isn't as profound, but if you look closer at say the shirt on the man at the bottom right, the Sony shop has none of the fine detail the s tends has now.

This is a really tricky shot, and you can see how the phone's handle the highlights of the super bright bulb filaments. The s10 just does dynamic range better. It's also sharper, and the stuffed ROG is more evenly lit. But what about night modes? Well, the Sony doesn't actually have one, but in really low light it will automatically take a two to three second long exposure. The s10 plus does the same, but right now some versions of the phone, those with the Enos chip, have a dedicated nightmare, and this is the result.

It's so much brighter and the crazy RGB lights on my PC are much clearer. Moving on to selfies, and it's a bit of a mixed bag in good light, they both look great, and I am drawn more to the so nice shot here. But then on this one, I'm leaning towards the Samsung, the Sony does look good, but it can look a bit over sharpened and I prefer the S tends more natural colors, which, ironically, is the opposite of. Why I was saying about the rear cameras in low-light, despite Beauty modes being turned off on both phones, the experience far too smooth and lacks detail, but what about video? Well? This is shot at 4k 30 on both phones. Well, though, the S 10 can actually record 4k 60, but you can see the difference in stabilization.

It looks like there's an earthquake on the Sony, so annoyingly you have to drop the resolution to 1080p. If you want a smooth video I, don't think that's a deal-breaker for most people, but for a 2019 flagship from Sony, I kind of expected better overall, then I think they're, both fantastic but to my eye and I have to be clear: I don't have any bias one way or another I'm, just interpreting the shots. The way I see them, but personally I think the s10 plus is the clear winner. But what about you? Do you agree, or do you think I'm blind and completely missed the mark on this one vote in the poll at the top right, and let me know what you think in the comments below?
