Camera Compare: Google Pixel XL vs Google Pixel 2 XL

I am absolutely recording right this minute. What's up everybody, this is Scott and welcome back to another video sorry I took vacation last week. Because I just needed some time away to do this. So in today's video I'm gonna talk about the OG pixel one excel and the new kid on the block pixel to excel and which one you should buy based on the camera alone. Obviously the better camera is going to be in the pixel 2, because it's newer, but if you can get this pixel one on the cheap, is it really worth the cost? Or should you save your pennies and get this guy? Let's do a little background information on the pixel 1 XL and the pixel 2 XL. The pixel 1 has a twelve point: three megapixel back shooter camera with an f 2.0 aperture. It does have the electronic image stabilization as well.

On the front-facing camera, it's an 8, megapixel, f, 2.4 aperture from a video perspective. It can shoot in 720, 1080 and 4k at 30 frames a second where a 720p can go all the way up to 240 frames. A second now I tend to shoot in 1080p at 60 frames. A second and the pixel 1 can do that. Now.

The pixel 2 XL has a twelve point: two megapixel F 1.8 aperture on the back 8.0 2.4 aperture on the front it has optical and electronic image stabilization and much like its older brother. It can do 720, 1080, P and 4k at 30 frames. A second and 120 frames, a second for 1080p. Again the exact same thing that you had last year in the original pixel. So now that I have some technical specs out of the way, let's do side-by-side comparisons of the actual photos and videos from the pixel 1 XL in the pixel 2 XL.

So, as you can see in the pixel 1 XL at 4k at 30 frames a second, it's overall, pretty smooth, that's not necessarily like walking with a DJI, Oslo mobile or anything like that. I'm holding it right about chest, height, walking with my arms to my sides, so you can see that it's not too bad from a stabilization perspective. Similarly, the pixel 2 also has perfect stabilization same situation. About mid-chest, walking with my arms to my side, I'm walking soft in the backyard, so you can see the stabilization is pretty good. Moving on to walking on concrete, you can see the difference between the pixel 1 and the pixel 2.

But the thing is it's not dramatically different, so it should be noted that this pixel one is running the beta version of Android 8.1 I, don't know if that has anything to do with it from everything that I've noticed. It has absolutely nothing to do with the camera itself. I could be wrong, but I didn't notice that when I was running non beta version of Android 8.0. So this is what the audio sounds like on the pixel ?, as you can kind of see and move it around a little pretty smooth overall but yeah. This is what the sound sounds like, and this is what the sound sounds like on the original OG pixel XL again moving around not moving too much or all still pretty smooth, but you get the general gist of what the difference between the two is.

So we talked about the stabilization of the videos. What about the image quality? So you can see in some of these shots of this pumpkin. The image quality isn't too bad on the pixel one, but the image quality on that pixel ? is exquisite. Specifically. Let's look at that portrait mode.

The portrait mode on the pixel ? excel is mind-blowing LY great. It doesn't matter whether it's the front-facing camera or the back facing camera. It's just really, really good I, don't know how Google does it with all the AI and machine learning, but when you compare this right now, not only to the pixel one but two big other flagships, like the note 8 or the iPhone X or the iPhone 8. In my opinion, the pixel to excel just runs away with it. It's not even close.

Now some people don't know on the pixel 1 they have. This thing called lens blur now lens. Blur is kind of like the beginning stages of what portrait mode was only kinda, but not nearly as good but kinda, but only with the back camera yeah. So lens blur is simple. You can actually just hold it on an object and move up really, really slow, and it's going to blur out those images.

Much like you see on the portrait mode, and it's not nearly as good as that. Pixel ? again, not necessarily terrible, as you can see, with these shots' comparison between the pumpkin on the pixel ? and the pumpkin on the pixel 1. Very clearly the pixel ? pumpkin looks a lot better, but the pixel 1 pumpkin doesn't look terrible now. One thing I'm gonna note here: I'm going to show some photos where I've taken some selfies with the pixel ? and I'm, going to show you a selfie that I took with the pixel 1 and from the front-facing camera perspective. It's not even close.

The pixel 2 Troys the pixel one in every sense of the imagination using that lens blur mode. So all in all, as you've probably noticed, the pixel to camera is just that much better. But why is this a situation where I say which one should you buy, and it really comes down to price a pixel one XL 128 gig for 749 dollars? Now that's not cheap. If you can pick one up on SWAP or Craigslist or eBay, or something like that for about half the price you're, getting a really great camera for a really great price, even if you spend $400, that's fantastic for a phone that shoots pictures like this now, the Google Pixel 2 XL 128 gig, because I want to compare the prices is nine hundred and forty-nine dollars. It is nearly $1000 as a matter of fact.

After tax, it is a thousand dollars if you're paying $750 for a phone. Is it worth the extra $200 just for the camera alone? Probably not, but there are other features that the pixel 2 gives out. That I haven't touched on in this video. Now the pixel to the smaller version of the phone is 749 dollars right now for 128 gigs, the exact same price as a pixel 1 XL, 128 gigs without question I pick up the pixel 2 in that instance. But if I had my heart set on the bigger phone, I, definitely don't know if I can justify the $200 cost difference.

However, if you can deal with the bigger bezels on the front of the pixel to that, camera lens is still the same, and it takes the same dramatically. Awesome pictures of that of the pixel 2 XL photos you've seen today. So there you have it there's my comparison between the pixel 1 XL camera and the pixel 2 XL camerae. Hopefully you liked it. I will have another video in the future.

Talking about whether you should pick up the pixel to excel at all spoiler alert, you probably should think about saving your pennies. So that's it! That's all. I have as always. Thank you so much for watching you guys are the best we're just going to keep chugging along. We got to get through this brief lull that we have.

We are going to have some case giveaways for minimal and rink. Those are our sponsors for the video. So we really appreciate those sponsorships as well as always as share subscribe thumbs up, leave a comment below, and I will see you guys next time.
