BlackBerry State of the Union: KEY2, OnwardMobility, Titan Pocket By TechOdyssey

Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey, trying something a little different here, but this is not going to be too long a video. I want to talk about the blackberry ke2 because there's a new security patch, and it just came out two days ago. I believe the 19th of May 21st of may now so there's another security patch, and it's like- I really didn't- expect us to be here in our blackberry journey in basically the middle of 2021. So we were expecting the onboard mobility blackberry, the blackberry 5g, with the physical keyboard with android all that great stuff. It's not here, but we do have a security patch for the American model, unlock blackberry, ke2, BBF 100-2 for sure maybe the 100-1, and it is build number acb-424. So we've got that and then now we're relevant, as of May 5th May 5th security patch and yeah.

Like I said, I really didn't see this coming when this was all happening when they started releasing the security patches. Again. Last year October November December, I was like wow, I kind of expected the gravy train ending beginning of 2021. I thought this was just to kind of keep the wheels going while we waited on the new phone that still isn't here yet. So it's just one of those things, so I'm glad it's there, but at the same point in time we haven't heard anything from all mobility in a very long time.

They made their announcement of august of last year that it was supposed to be here. The first half of 2021 we've heard nothing, there's nothing on social media, no news! No pr! No press release, no nothing! So it's very concerning because a lot of us find ourselves in a position where, if you're using blackberry, 10 it's going to be end of life in January, which is like six months seven months away. On top of that, 18 t and t mobile are cutting the blackberry, 10 phones off the network, because they don't support voice over LTE, and they use the underlying 2g and 3g to make phone calls. So it doesn't matter whether the operating system is dying. You can't use them on a phone network once January gets here anyway, and I think it might be sooner than that with some other phones, I think, are on October, so if it's really a tough buy because there's no armor mobility phone, the blackberry, 10 phones- are going to be the way the dodo soon and then well should I buy it.

I mean 299 looks like the q10 physical keyboard, android 11. It's got a lot of appealing features and characteristics to it. Even though it's not the most high spec phone in the world, blackberries have never been anyway. I mean shoot this blackberry ke2 is running a snapdragon 660. , it's not a spring chicken.

It's not superfast, so to get a MediaTek hello, p70, it's more powerful than the p60. That was in the titan smaller package.720X720 3.1-inch screen, 128, gigs of storage, six gigs of ram 16 megapixel primary camera, eight megapixel selfie camera. If I didn't say it, four thousand William battery. That's plenty! You know it's going to have everything that you need to get you powered through the day, and nicely it's going to be a really nice refreshing experience. Put the blackberry suite on their get the different apps you can have as much of a cyborg Frankenstein blackberry as you can expect to get in 2021 in a nice small package.

So with no new blackberry on the horizon, I mean we haven't heard anything. The first half of the year is June, 30th, nothing but cricket. So I don't fault anyone that is considering buying this, and I've had a lot of people ask me about it. I've even made a separate video to tell people hey. This is what's going on.

These are my thoughts at 299. I think it's an absolute no-brainer, it's something that you could very easily try out low financial investment, probably turn around and sell. If you don't like it, you might even be able to return it. If you don't like, I don't know how the return policy works, but I think it's going to be a good device and in the absence of having anything newer than the blackberry key2, which is three years old like three, that's a long time guys so android 8.1, yes e. Some of us are still getting relevant security updates, but nothing for the ke2 LE, which is technically newer than the ke2.

The motion, nothing new, the blackberry Kane hasn't had security patch in two years, so the arsenal of phones that we have out there at our disposal for using a smartphone with a physical keyboard for using a blackberry, puts us in very difficult territory. But if you're in North America, you've still got a key, two you've got one of these models. The 100-2, I think the regular 100-1, definitely not the 100-6, and I'm sorry for all you guys who are still having issues and not getting those patches. But that's pretty much. The story of blackberry, they're, very, very frustrating when it comes to these things and reliability and expectations and making sure everyone's got the latest and greatest.

I hope, and I've hoped that automobility could change this image, and they could do something perfect. They were able to get everyone rallied and excited. You know almost a year ago, but we haven't heard anything now and if it is delayed, that's okay, just you know tell us it's delayed because then we'll know what's going on, I mean Samsung is having to delay their note.21, there's not going to be a note.21 this year, Apple's had problems with chips. Qualcomm is having problems with keeping up with demand. You look at some companies like Redmi, and they've shipped it over to divinity MediaTek processors instead of Qualcomm ships.

So there's a lot of struggle around the smartphone market, and understandably so, we've been living in a pandemic for the last year and a half the world in some ways is in turmoil. It still is, and that has affected electronics that has affected supply chain that has affected availability that has affected the smartphone industry plain and simple across the board. So it doesn't. It wouldn't surprise me if they came out and said yeah it's going to be a little longer, but transparency is the key here, because we need to trust them and when it comes to the phone, we're really excited about it. But then our other phones are failing us.

What do you do? I mean talking about buying an expensive phone? That's an investment! If you look at buying an at t phone, and you know doing a two three year contract or a financing agreement. If you look at T-Mobile, a lot of people are not going out and spending a thousand dollars cash on a phone they're financing them. So what happens? If you have to bail ship there's, no new Blackbeard that shows up. Do you go get a pixel? Do you go get a Samsung? Do you get an apple? I mean none of these are good choices, because you want a blackberry- and it's just not here. Right now and I haven't seen anything pass through the FCC.

There's been no leaks, no rumors, no nothing! So what do we do? What do you do? What phone do you get? Do you hold on? Well? Maybe you can't hold on because your blackberry, 10 phones gonna, it's not gonna work any more by January, so it's a very frustrating position, and it's just the same old story over and over and over. This is how reality has been for us as blackberry fans for a very long time. Fortunately, the key2 is still an option. The motion, the key one, the PRI in some limited instances uh. You know it's just it's very frustrating at this point, I'm frustrated.

I know you guys are too. I wanted to bring you this news about security patch, but also talk about some of this bigger overarching State of the Union stuff, because, let's be real folks, we need a phone. You need a phone. I mean I got like 30, because I review phones all the time, but none of them are a new blackberry, and I'm excited about the unihertz titan pocket, because it's going to give me a lot of those things back in my hand, again, a nice small form factor a communication device. I've said all along.

Furthermore, I would love to see a new classic like size device. Furthermore, I think would be great. It would be better if it had a blackberry logo on it, but I'm glad unihertz has stepped up MSRP 299, low financial, and I mean investment. It's not something! That's going to break the bank for most people, and it's very attainable. So I'm very much looking forward to trying it they're sending me a reviewing it.

So as soon as I get that I'll make all the videos, I can to tell you all about it. Let you know if it's good, let you know how good the keyboard is and other people out there have them too. I saw Mr mobile got his today, so I think it's cool. I think this will put us in a good spot, at least for now. While we wait, I think the Uniper's titan in a lot of ways is a good interim phone to hold you over and tell you find out something about the blackberry, but I think we'll hear something by then anyway, because the phone's not available yet the titan pocket went on pre-sale.

Well, it's on Kickstarter. It has started now they're not going to start shipping them to September, so we've got June July august at least three and a half months before those will start rolling out to people. So I'm sure we'll hear something by then, of course, blackberry almond mobility said middle of 2021. That's June 30th, that's like eight seven weeks away, we'll definitely hear something by then I'm sure whether to device, whether it's a postponement whatever it is. I don't know at this point, but it's just a very unfortunate position.

We're in right now, because there's a lot of uncertainty and at least the universe titan pocket will probably give you a nice patchwork to get you there until the new phone comes out. If it's delayed and if the phone is here, then you would have to worry about that. That's perfectly fine, but it's looking less and less like it's going to be here by June 30th. Realistically, I mean looking at the clock looking at the calendar looking at nothing has passed through the FCC there's time frames for this stuff, for you know, processing and approval so crossing my fingers, I'm hoping that we still hear something. We still see something we still get something, but what we do know is blackberry, 10, end of life coming soon blackberry, 10 devices getting booted off, because no 2g, no 3g support by the end of the year, with 18 t and t mobile still getting security updates for the ke2, which is great for those select users, and then we have a bunch of older phones that may or may not work moving forward.

So sorry, this is not the greatest video in the world, but I just want to talk to you all, be real and address things as they are and, of course tell you guys about security patch and hopefully, you've taken a look at the universe, titan pocket. Maybe it's appealing to you. If not you know, maybe there's some other devices out there, and I'll probably make a device video soon about what are some good alternatives. If you have to switch from your blackberry to go something else, and I'll look at different price ranges, look at different types of devices, and we'll go from there, but that's all I've got for now guys just some food for thought, stuff, some wait and see stuff and some future hope on the horizon stuff.
