Blackberry Priv Charging port replacement using just low melt solder and a soldering iron.

We just got a blackberry proof. No power customer thinks it's a charger import problem, and he got us to charge imports. He bought them, and he realized that it's a lot of work, or he doesn't have the right tools to do the job. So he brought it here. He came from San Bernardino, along with his wife, nice couple, probably in my parents, age, and he did mention that he left us a comment on YouTube I did not read it, but looking at it right now, I do see it, and the comment is right here, enjoyed your work and taken time to explain to the public what you are doing. I called you today and inquired about making the same repair to my blackberry proof.

Your repair rates are reasonable. Thank you very much. He commented on a blackberry, video that we did previously I think this is an old video. Let me check. Ok, the video is April 7, 2019.

So it's an older video. Let's take a look at the customers board, it's already taken apart. It was brought in like this, so let's see what's going on, and you lose pins from the back here things. They look good from the back nothing loose. What I want to do is I want to check the pins from the inside right now.

I do not think it's a charging port issue, because the port looks good and there's no reason to believe that the port is damaged. If the phone does not power on it may not be a charging port issue. Let me plug a charging cable and do some measurements. I mean this last pin here does not look too good, but I do not see anything alarming. We have three point two volts here, and we have four point.

Seven volts here so voltage is reaching charging port is good. Charging port is good, nothing obvious charge, import looks, good, voltage is reaching. So what is the problem? Let me put the motherboard back inside the phone. The board was taken out by the customer, so I'm going to put it back in and test the motherboard is in, and all we have to do is test plug a charging. Cable and, let's see zero charge.

Meter is reading zero, amps being drawn, hmm I mean the phone is turning on, but it could be on because the battery is currently charged. I do not know, that's all I see on the screen and I did not turn the phone on it just turned on by itself. What, if we unplugged the cable? Okay, the good thing here is: I keep used batteries and this box here just in case I- need to try a battery right now. We do not know if the battery is good or if the battery is causing this behavior, but I do have a used one that we changed for a customer in the past and I. Have it labeled as proved, and it's a little expanding, but I do not care.

We keep it just for testing if we see any signs of life. If we see any signs of life when we fog this battery in that would tell us that the problem is the battery. But if I did not have a used one here, then it would be hard to know if the battery is what's causing the problem. The board looks good and no reason to believe that anything on the board is causing the problem. So let's try this used one and see okay, so the US battery is plugged in and let's try, let's see if we have any amperage being run by the phone now, if not, then I can say if we say the problem is not the battery, because I know this battery was working when it came in.

The only reason we changed it is because it was expanding, zero amps being drunk. So the problem is not the battery. That's who I didn't change the charging port, even though I do not see a reason why we would want to do that, but I tried another used battery and charging rate is toll. Zero amps and the board looks very clean. It's we never had to fix a motherboard on a blackberry proof.

Usually it's almost always the charging port, so I do not want to keep thinking. Maybe the charging port is the one that's causing the problem. Maybe the charging port is the one that's causing the problem, just replace it and see what happens. I'm gonna start by applying low melt solder, so we can lower the melting temperature of the charging port. If you notice here, these components are very close to the charging port.

So we do not want to knock those components off by mistake. We have to be very careful right now. I'm going to apply a low melt solder here. Rommel solder will lower the melting temperature of the solder so that when we heat it up, we can easily remove this connector. We're going to apply a lot more solder on to the pins here, and we should be able to actually remove the port without having to apply any hot air.

Let's try it right now and some folks I have bought the twenty-three and the five nine flux. This one happens to be the two and three which is out of stock, and we cannot get it as if now, but the 559 flux is just as awesome, and we do have it on our website. Let's apply Lamont solder over here, let's switch over to a smaller tip, because we can apply Rommel solder on to the front pins, and we should be able to remove this charging port without having to apply hot air just want to secure the board on the board holder, so it doesn't wobble when we are working on it. As you can see like this, the charging port is over here and, let's use our awesome, empty clock.59 plugs right now. I need a new tip because look at this when solder does not hold on to a tip anymore.

Like this, it's time to change the tip we can tin the tip to make it last longer by using a tip dinner. This is like acid, that brushes off some oxidation on the tip and makes it like new again, but it's not a long-lasting thing, so we need to order a tip. I. Do have a lot of tips, but I like this one in particular. So let's see, so we have enough Flame solder here and if you notice, Rommel solder, is melting on the edge on the right side.

Look at this the whole port is moving and look at this. That's the URI of Rommel solder and a lot of you are gonna. Ask: where do we buy it from our website? We have it on our website. You can buy it in sticks. Each stick is about six seven inches, we cut it in half, and we send it to you in two pieces.

So if you order two sticks, you will receive four because we cut them in half the stick is long, so we put it in a container, and we cut it in half Lehmann solder is like magic. Let's wake up the solder and solder a new charging port connector. We got six Xbox game consoles for repair. Today, four of them came by mill and two of them came to our shop here. I guess people have nothing else to do during this coronavirus pandemic other than playing video games.

So I'll be working on those Xbox motherboards after this again, that's yours, our tech, 559 flux, the font is good and that's quickly, Chuck, let's solder the back and the bikers done. Let's look at the front one more time. Let me try this dip. This is a fairly new tip. I haven't used it much hey, very good, that's it very nice, very nice.

So let's try it. I would be surprised if it worked, because it didn't look bad to begin with, but things are not always as they seem or as they appear. Okay, so connect the screen, cables, we're gonna, connect, the battery, cable and battery cable is connected and, let's see, is it going to work. This is our power bank here, and we're going to plug the amp meter, which is also sold on our website. I'll leave a link down below and let's plug it in, look at that look at that the phone is charging now.

So what happened? No idea, no idea how this worked, but it's working. Let me see if we can get a better view of this meter here, and it's being drawn by the phone is 1.17 1.17 her the microscope. Here, look at this current 1.16, and we do see the light on the phone right now, so the phone is fixed, big bus, disassembled, one of the Xbox's, which is this one here, so we're going to be working on this one I don't know if I'm going to combine both repairs in one video, but we have six Xbox motherboards to work on. This is one of them here, so that's it for this video I hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to Like and subscribe leave a comment.

You have any questions, and we'll do something else in the next video.
