Blackberry KeyOne In LATE 2019! (Still Worth It?) (Review)

Hello everyone welcome back to the channel. So once again another sway- and you guys don't know this is a still worth it video. This is a place where I take a look at older technology. You know for me, I'm a broke boy: I! Don't really have that much money, so I have to go and like force myself to buy older phones, because I just can't afford the new ones. You know now one of those phones and actually the brand of phones that used to be like the biggest brand of phones in the world. It was Blackberry and everyone and their moms would be used to like use these phones.

I, remember back in the day. I didn't really care too much about blackberry until Drake. He once like said he was a huge fan of BlackBerry's, and this is one I like Drake was like the guy. So like I was like, oh my god, blackberry and then now everyone is obsessed with iPhones and, like nobody, even uses blackberries, but blackberry still didn't give up. You know, even though Drake stop chatting them out, even though all these people stop chatting them up.

They still kept developing phones and I reviewed two black bears on this phone the passport and then the other phone blackberry, perv I forgot that this phone is like the successor of both of those phones, and this is a very interesting phone, because if you look at it, it's such an interesting device, and they took a weird approach with this. But it's kind of a cool approach. At the same time, I have to keep an open mind on this, because I know there's a lot of people who might like this phone and I honestly don't have anything to hate about this phone. There's some weird things here and there, but I think ultimately did a lot of people might not like the design of this phone, but I think it's one of its highlights: I actually kind of like the way this phone looks, which is kind of funny to say, but this phone was actually released in 2017 in February. So it's a little over two years old.

At this point on the front, you have a 4.5 inch IPS panel and as it's actually 1080p, which I didn't think it was 1080p, but it's actually not that bad of a panel I thought it was all that at first, which I don't even know. Why I thought that, but it's not a bad. I PS panel, it's actually pretty decent. Now the one thing that, if you're looking at the front, you can see ultimately like right out the gate, I mean so obvious. This thing does not have dual front facing cameras, it's just what no totally joking the keyboard.

This is a one thing where I think I'm going to lose a lot of people now, in my opinion, I'm going to get straight to it when I'm looking at it and I guess like using it I guess just to type in things. It's not bad, and I think there's definitely a place in time for it, but I think where we're at now with a lot of software keyboards and how great they're getting there's a lot of things that you might be missing from, like, let's say, a new keyboard on that software. Update like a G port, for example, that you can't Less get on this keyboard now I do understand you can still put on the screen. You can still put on the keyboard and everything, and so you sit that way, but that kind of you know lacks the need of the front keyboard. That's already embedded onto the phone itself.

Now the cool thing is: there is a fingerprint sensor on this space bar and the space button, which is super nice I really do like that, and at first I was looking. I was like wait, there's no way, that's a fingerprint sensor, but it actually isn't. That's really nice and another thing. I love about these blackberry, keyboards I think this has been ever since the Drive and then maybe even blackberries before this. But the whole keyboard is like a trackpad kind of thing.

So, if you kind of like rub your hands around it, and you're, actually like going like, you can go scroll through pages, you can scroll to anything. You want to, and I think that's a really cool thing. So the keyboard itself I think it's a cool thing. But for me, it's just not really that practical I have really fat fingers and when I was typing, things in I was finding myself like typing, like three letters at a time. Sometimes when I'm typing things in like if I'm typing, like Temple Run, for example, it just I feel like it's just a little too slow for me and I keep messing it up, and this might sound stupid, but there's something about physically pushing a keyboard and a key letter down versus just tapping it where I feel like you can get a lot faster input by even typing it or even swiping, on the keyboard.

Rather than doing it like it. This way, I'm sure some people might like this way. Still, though so I understand that, but I spent way too much time talking about that keyboard, the sides of the phone feel very premium. However, the back is removable, which is super nice. You have a micro SD card slot on it.

The battery is non-removable though, but it's a kind of big sized battery, which is nice. Okay, Smoke single camera on the back dual flash, USB type-c on the bottom and a headphone jack up top and overall, just see more from the outside I can tell you either like this way or you light, or you don't like it. There's really no in-between I am in between. So actually I like there is an in between there's an in-between about everything. Why do I even say those super thing, but I feel like there's a strong opinion about this specific phone? I think the key to just came out or key one to whatever that's the successor of this phone came out recently, but this phone, without a doubt, I think, is super divisive in a lot of ways in terms of the way it looks now in terms of the software, this phone started off with Android 7.1. As far as I know, it did get Android Oreo, but for some reason my phone is stuck on Android 7.1 I cannot update it pass Android nougat for some reason, I, don't know why. Maybe blackberry wants me to stick here, but every time I try to download something.

I keep saying downloading system update waiting for Wi-Fi, but I'm already connected to the Wi-Fi, so I know what's going on, but it's not that big, there's really not too many crazy changes between Android nuke and an Oreo, but what I can tell you are in terms of software. Blackberry does have their own OS on top of like stock Android or whatever it is, but it's not really too boggy like it's pretty sucky Android at the end of the day, which I'm really happy about I will say that for some reason they put a lot of unnecessary Amazons, apps, Verizon apps for whatever apps they have on here they have a ton of or sprint apps for that they have a lot of carriers, apps and bloatware already embedded. Now, it's nothing compared to even like one UI work or Samsung really just changed of everything. This isn't really at that level. But it's still I mean I, don't know it's like almost stock Android, just with a lot of apps.

So it's not that so in terms of software, you're kind of good I'm sure there's a route out for it. Maybe there's a custom ROM or two out for it: I, don't know if there's a pretty big community out behind it, there might be there might not be, but in terms of software you're, pretty much done with it. I mean Android tends already. Our Android 11 is going to be probably in the beta form coming out soon, not soon, but like one eventually so in terms of software. I can tell you're kind of set on your own, but I, don't think a lot of people are getting this phone to get soft write this all the time, I think they're getting it because of the physical aspects of it.

In the way this form looks and moving on to the performance side of things. This thing has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, an outscore CPU and Arena 506 GPU, with three gigabytes of RAM on the base model and four gigabytes of RAM on the top tier model. Now this thing has a micros card, so, like I said so, the base, storage bottles don't really matter, but there are 32 gigabytes on the base model.64, that's our model, but micros cards. So, like I said not a big deal and in terms of performance, what I can tell you are I. Don't think this thing is a bad performer at all.

I think it's actually pretty decent I can definitely see I. Think the screen has a lot to do with it, because it's not like a crazy big screen, and it's not like a 1440p panel, it's 1080p, so it doesn't have a lot of pixels to push anyway. But when I'm, going through things, and I'm opening, apps or whatever I think this handles things pretty well like it doesn't seem that slow to me at all, I'll, definitely tell you the cursor or the trackpad on the keyboard like when you're kind of swiping through it is a really nice feature, and it makes it feel like its phone is like a computer almost in a way, but in terms of the performance I mean, like I, said: I think everything seems to be working well. Maybe it is kind of not it's not too aggressive at closing apps in the background, but sometimes I do think that if I'm like opening up a tab and then like two seconds later, I open up another one or go back to an app I just had sometimes they might close out of it sooner than I expected. But it's really not that big for deal like I can really get over that pretty fast in terms of gaming and everything.

Gaming is okay as well. Minor games like coop use temple, run to snake versus blocks and handles those games. Pretty fun. There's really nothing too crazy with it real racing 3! Isn't that bad either? It's completely playable, it's not as fast as I was expecting like the galaxy is, for example the chemo around this time. This phone came out that one seems to be a lot faster than this one.

So this one was not the type to your performer at the time, and it's it. But it's not a slow phone either like I'm, not trying to stay here and say it's a bad 4 and slow whatever it's a pretty decent all-around performer I, think maybe the sovereignties might have had something to do with their wines back down or something. But I can definitely tell you it's about average. It's that super slow, but it's not superfast I would say it's about average and if you're getting it I, wouldn't say you would brag about the performance but I, don't think you would be like salty about the performance either. So it's probably the best way I can put it moving on to the camera side of things.

This thing has a single 12, megapixel camera on the back and they eight megapixel front facing camera. You are able to shoot 4k videos at up to 30 frames per second, but I. Don't think this camera is one of its selling points or one of its highlights. I think it's a pretty average camera at that the UI is actually pretty interesting. It seems kind of old-school, but I kind of like that.

It kind of looks kind of interesting, but I. Don't think it's really that good of a camera. If I'm being honest, you have some settings in here for sure you can change the modes. You can change a lot of different things. You don't have things like portrait mode or night mode or anything, but you have enough to get you going but again, like I've said, with the other Blackberry phones with the passport, with the proof.

These cameras are definitely not their highlights, and they seem kind of washed out sometimes, but if you can get over it, I mean if you're getting this fun I, don't think you're going to get it for the camera, so I definitely don't think the camera is one of its highlights. Moving on to the battery, we have a thirty-five hundred million power battery in that I said that kind of weight, 3509 power battery like I, said non-removable, even though their back is removable. It's kind of funny and the battery is actually one of the interesting things, I actually kind of think this battery life is pretty decent. Now that has a mixture of a couple of things, one. This phone isn't the most powerful phone in the world.

So there's that this one also doesn't have the biggest screens of power. The keyboard mindset Kappa a little of battery in there, but nothing compared to something like 6.5 inch. OLED panel 1440p, so I think that has a lot to do with this as well, and when you combine those two things you end up getting a phone, that's actually not that bad in battery and the battery size is in, isn't even that bad either.3500 million powers- that's not bad at all. That's pretty respectable, in my opinion, so to kind of sum up this whole entire phone and how it holds up in the later part of 2019. What I couldn't tell you dude? Is this phone I definitely see its place and why people might like it? You know I definitely think that for some people who want to stick with a physical keyboard for some people who, like this older design, but want to make sure of like the newer design as well because think about it, this is an older design.

Phone did believe it. Whether you want to accept it or not, but it has that newer version of Android. It has, you know newer features and everything, so you're able to run the newest apps you're able to run LinkedIn Facebook, whatever you guys want to use on it. You can use that capability on this phone and still have that physical keyboard, which some people might like and a fingerprint sensor as well. So what I can tell you are for me this phone probably isn't for me: I mean I own and have it but like I'm not going to use it as a main phone I feel like I.

Don't want to give up the know. Digital keyboard or software keyboard I feel like swipe typing is the greatest thing ever invented, and I use that all the time, but this phone I think it definitely reminds me more like a PDA kind of thing, which everything is kind of a PDA nowadays, but it just gives me that look like when I used to sit and like to look at like the Windows PDA sat the time. This phone looks like something that I would want an envision at one point and I would be like. Oh my god, I want this phone I said in the newest one, but looking at it now in practicality, it's just not for me, but it might be for you and ultimately dude I. Don't think this phone is a bad phone at all, I think it's a good phone, the only thing if it was still getting software updates I think that would be a huge plus for it, in my opinion, but I think to each own.

The BlackBerry key one has its place in my opinion and I. Think if you own it, if you want to get it I think you know you work hard for your money, you should be able to ball out if you want to, so that's pretty much it guys if you have any questions or anything leave it down in the comment section below if you've owned the BlackBerry key one.
