BlackBerry Key2 Review - it’s so bad By Gavin's Gadgets

Hi everyone: this is Gavin from Gavin's gadgets. This is the BlackBerry key ?, it's both badass, and it's both bad. So what's bad about it, not awful about this phone, I'm going to go deep, die, and then I'm going to give you my final verdict at the end. So this is the BlackBerry key to the phone itself. I'll come back in a second in the box, you get the following: USB, cable, headset, headphones, Nazi power and a power brick. You do get the subject's all them guys there.

So this is the phone itself QWERTY keyboard. The fingerprint sensor is sorry. The touch bar space bar also thing print sensor, as you just ever seen demonstrated. It opens up very quickly turn that off so on the side. Here you have boil up down power button convenience key, which you can map I'll, go through in a minute.

There's this lovely rubber back I. Don't think you really need to use a case or, if you're prone to dropping things. You will need a case to protect the screen, perhaps on the sides: Jul 12, megapixel, rear cameras, I think that's 8 or 5 megapixels on the front doesn't really matter what it is. Our combat camera sensor, while it doesn't matter, but there are a lot of features about the BlackBerry that make this really quite good. So as you can see the convenience key when I pressed it so opened a couple of shortcuts, you can have up to 3 on that you have, you can slide to get that there hub, and you can scroll through different things, and you can see it's pulled up.

Some of the notifications they've just come through. You can see that from the top of the screen. When you pull down here, there's the notification will just delete that, and you can come down here, and you've got various different options. So I've had to have a SIM card out. So don't get bombarded with notifications while doing this review, but you've got taker, screenshots, redactor versus other privacy shade.

So what you can do if I run through some standard features? What makes us so good is the keyboard. So if you're typing stuff, you do have this keyboard I have these BlackBerry devices extensively in my past and I love, love, love typing on this, whether I'm any file stub and the on screen, keyboard, I, don't know, but I'm guessing quicker and quicker. The more I use it. There are amazing things you can do this keyboard. The first is you can map the currency key, which is this key here and I? Have it to bring down the notification shade, there are options in the menu.

You also have this the speed key here which allows you to activate the different shortcuts that you have on the keyboard, and you can have two shortcuts per actual key, so a short press that brought Twitter up. Did you see how quick that was, then what you can also do you can scroll? It doesn't always work smoothies this, but you do you can actually scroll, then what you can also do. You can have a short press, and that brings up Instagram and, if you're in a particular app, you can press the shortcut key and hold down, and that brings up that's actually IG TV. That's what I've got on a single press is Instagram, and if I press and hold I've got a MTV, and I'll have these shortcuts set up, and I'll just show you some of those shortcuts. So if you go into the Bradley launcher, it's a really, really nice launcher and I run through some of the settings that you have here very quickly.

You all know about network blue suit and all this sort of things just shortcuts and gestures. So here it's it literally says long press short press. Now I have actually already filled out every single one except I've had to take. These were actually phone numbers with people have had to remove them just for this review. So I guess you have certain people if you one press that, and it'll dial or text going to text that number pretty good, so you can see there for be easier.

Radio, that's finds something quite interesting that you can do. G Google Plus and orgies Google, and you can see it just keeps going like room for L and on L for here. Google lends Met Office this and maps so, for example, is literally just a breeze. So if you do that Twitter again, and you know, then you can literally go press and hold for long T and that's Google Translate, so in terms of moving around it really really really is fast. Now, if you look at some, the other apps that you have, you can actually use the trackpad for games.

So it's a bit further on there, and I've only realized this after trying a few games, so I'll just very quickly do this and continue- and you can see these 160 works really well, and I've got transform the'm just coming to the end of the thing hit, but you can actually move it around using the piece now your mileage will vary depend on the games and I think some to explore, but it's not too bad. It doesn't grind it down. I've got a lot already on here, and it works very well and the camera. Let's talk about the camera, so here's the camera, and it's absolutely awful. It's a terrible. You can change the settings for two-three, you have 16 to 9 1, 2, 1 or 3 -.

You can have HDR or thorn or Auto your flash timer. Here you got some filters. He's got a jewelry lens, so it has some two times zoom, but there's no optical image, stabilization on any of it. Here you can just choose your manual mode. So now you go back, and you got all your manual settings.

If you want to change the video you have the first full selects which mode you want, and so you put video, and then you can hit the record button. So it's a bit of an extra step card and also to put that back to Saul's home. You can have some options here in terms of adding a watermark. It does do 4k on the front and 4k 24 frames per second them.1080P 60 frames per second, but it's a wobbly as hell, it's not stabilized, so you can use Google photos to stabilize a video. You don't know how to do that.

What you do is you go to Google photos, and you pick a video, so you hit stabilize, and then it will try and stabilize the video for you and that's how you do that. It's really easy. Just take it a bit extra longer, and I have actually tried to stabilize some of these shots. To give you some idea. This was taken this morning.

There we go. You may think that looks alright. It's okay! You know you can't get an ad for shop as soon as it goes dark I'm, going to show you some photos. Now, it's not safe good. So now, you've seen the photos, you see what I mean and not see bad brilliant over exposes and all sorts a lot of the artifacts, even them bright light, but you do have to say overall it's quite nice if I just let it down ultimately by their camera.

So just going back into the settings just to show you the shortcuts quickly. So here, I just show you two keyboard shortcuts customize the current ski, and you have three up three four options: there, the notifications and the comments key. Was that one there and then there's quick launch camera, which is quite good, so don't press the power key, and it works, and even when the phone is on. So if we do that now, you'll see it the camera launches, so that was good double tap to check your phone's three finger privacy shade. So if you do that and do the three fingers so here you've got privacy shades on a private shade.

It stops other people seeing what sort of other texts on there, and you can change the settings, so you can have just how much how clear is like, so you can do, and you can change how big that particular gap is it's all customizable, and it'll. Something called add action. So if he wants to take a screenshot of something, but there's some sensitive information, it allows you just to black out just a dust likely using a pen. We're just blacking out certain amounts of text, and that does know works very well. That's not too bad, and there we go.

So you can see how that works. Just go back into set. Things are going to-do, so I'm just on the battery it does work very well has various different options. When you go to charge the battery, you have an option in terms of boost mode, which is where it basically puts it into a power saving mode. So you can just maximize the time you have.

It does have quick charge, 3 display you can change the brightness auto brightness, it's not the brightest of screens from it's quite hard to see, but does work better in portrait mode with sunglasses when used like that and why polarized glasses, I couldn't see the screen. It's all at the time, the glasses off night mode, sort of add some just takes it, so it sort of animates to screen that amber. So these, in your eyes, should help you actually sleep all pegs shuffle. That's quite nice changes dots from all papers automatic in there, particularly good ambient display. You can wait.

The screen up and you'll receive notifications. I've got it off, but that's games quite handy, and you've got various actions here that you can do when you plug certain stuff in, so it's not too bad in that respect, and you've got all the usual bits and pieces that you see on an Android phone, so you really say you're buying this for the battery services, the hub integration and all the other bits to come with that it does work fairly. Well, the screen size if you're, watching, if you're, watching video yeah it's um- it's not ideal so just to show you I have a superset just go to the library, and so I go to my videos, and we just tap on this. You can see how it's a picture and picture. You know it's not full screen, but you can.

Furthermore, you know, watch movies on this. It's not too bad one aspect, so it does have this an FM radio, so I just plug some headphones which go on the top here. I'll pick the FM radio, it does have RDS just actually shows under our four radio where I'll be okay. Let me just take it off: Fair Pay, now just for the yeah, so it dies, and you can set your presets up and when I say when it's on it does actually, despite the channel name as well, so which is particularly good. So if I press play there, you go, and it's an it does have the RDS stuff on which is perfect.

The sound through the headphones is okay, nothing special does have Bluetooth. Five does have that. All the high-res Bluetooth codecs and does sound good. So really he wanted some stuff use your Bluetooth. It does make a difference, so they have its lots of features, and I'm so torn on this in terms of moving around getting from one app to the next and using the keyboard.

It's absolutely brilliant. You know going from all the heart messaging, you can fly through do things so much faster, and then you have the cameras on the back and the camera on the front. They are absolutely I have never used such bad cameras ever, and I'm. Sorry, for my language, no, no! They are so bad as a bloody disgrace, and it lets down what could be the ultimate advice. They don't have to be good cameras just a lot better than they are I just hope in the future.

Firmware updates there are some improvements, but even using, if you have video news, though go into the Google photos, there's an option to stabilize the video doesn't always work, doesn't always make it a lot better and I. Don't know it's. Okay, its Hospital sticker feels wrong, but compared to all the modern cameras or today doesn't really add up, load and close Colonia memory comes to nighttime. That's a mess! So really it's such letdown, because if you were a social media nutcase no, you could do your sniffs, your selfies and share them, and you've got the phone in the right way. Up to yourself is you know, Sharon wood is fast.

It's really fast to do stuff on this, but let's just let down BlackBerry's Mr. Trippe thinking only people interested in doing emails and stuff. Well, you didn't know kids, teenagers people at life. Social media will use this if only the cameras were better, but it's so good. Don't you know if you're using everything else, it's really, really good? Keyboardist, joys, use and I really say: that's you know, I'm split, you know, I would use this.

As my main phone is a cameras like better because the experience of using the Hubble on the other service is so brilliant. They may have.
