Battle of the Affordable 5G Phones! | OnePlus 9 vs Google Pixel 5

(upbeat music) - Hey, reviews. org fam I'm to One Plus 9 Armstrong today we're gonna have another battle. We gonna take a look at OnePlus 9 versus Pixel 5. These are both mid-level 5G phones coming in around the same price point there's a lot to choose from these days I think these are among the top we gonna look at the cameras, the cost the software feature sets and help you make a proper purchasing decision. Let's go. (upbeat music) Hey, if any of these videos help you if any of the videos on this channel have helped you please hit us with that thumbs up hit that subscribe and hit that notification bell so you'll be notified when we upload the latest videos.

Jumping right into it. Let's look at the cost. First off, you're going to pay $729 for the OnePlus 9, which just came out. I'm sure the price will drop at some point but right now that's what you gonna pay versus $699 for the Pixel 5. So about $30 more for the OnePlus 9 so in terms of keeping your phones up to date One Plus has committed to two years of operating system updates this lodge with Android 11, the One Plus 9 so you're going to get two years of OSTP updates there.

Google has promised three years of updates with theirs also launching with Android 11, the Pixel 5 So you're going to get one more year on the pixel five with your update. Now, in terms of the displays you get a 6.55" amoled 2400 by 1080 402PPI display running at 120HZ with the OnePlus 9 with Google's Pixel 5 You're going to get a 2340 by 1080 at 432PPI at 90Hz. So in terms of displays, the OnePlus 9 has the higher resolution higher and higher refresh rate display and it is a beautiful display and it's a heritage it's brighter actually then the Pixel 5, the OnePlus 9 comes in at 1100 nits worth of brightness and it definitely shows over the Pixel 5 when looking at the Witcher, as you can see here now when dealing with audio, part of that multimedia experience they both have dual stereo speakers when I used decibel meter DBX, the OnePlus 9 versus the Pixel 5, the Pixel 5 actually was about a half fraction louder than the OnePlus 9. When I was looking at the Witcher, the average decibels for the OnePlus 9 was 72 with the max being 82 the pixel was 73 with the max being 83 a couple other things to note as we look at the comparison between the two the OnePlus 9 has an indiscipline fingerprint sensor whereas the Pixel 5 display does not. It has the fingerprint sensor on the rear here as you can see, they're both IP 68 although the OnePlus 9 doesn't officially have IP 68 waterproofing dust proof and shock proofing T-Mobile's version does have official IP 68 and since they're all built the same we can assume that all the One Plus 9 is the OnePlus 9 pros are IP 68, getting to the cameras We gonna do that in a moment, but in terms of the spec with the OnePlus 9, you gonna 8K video.

You get 4k video with the Pixel 5 expandable storage neither of them has that in terms of battery life both of these phones are actually pretty solid performers the One Plus 9 actually comes out a little better in terms of battery overall life, your battery lifestyle you gonna get a 4500mAh battery with the OnePlus 9 versus a 4080mAh battery with the Pixel 5. The OnePlus 9 gives you 65 watt charging over wire with 15 watt wireless charging. The Pixel 5 is gonna give you 18 watt wired charging with 12 watt wireless charging and five watt reverse charging. The OnePlus 9 wins out and the battery department as well. So the specs are pretty close other than the processor with both of these phones let's get to the photos and see how the cameras stack up.

(upbeat music) So we're at the test desk let's take a look at the difference in photos between the Pixel 5 and the OnePlus 9. So starting off with as picture you've seen me take frequently for comparison just to see how they handle reds and handle some of the deeper colors we've got the OnePlus 9 on the left the Pixel 5 on the right, which one do you like more? Which one is more pleasing to you? In this case clearly we have a deeper color saturation with the Pixel 5 on the left we have the OnePlus 9, which has a more natural take and more natural capture that isn't so color saturated as the Pixel 5 so this is really going to come down to preference in terms of which picture you like color wise one thing have note here is the Pixel 5 is a little sharper on the wording on the sign. So you're definitely gonna see a difference in that again, a little bit more sharpness. They're going to the hazard sign. You'll see again, a little more natural on the colors on the OnePlus 9 versus the Pixel 5 which has a little deeper color saturation in the signage there.

The OnePlus 9 picked up the color or the cover rather on that side so you see more glare, more reflection off the protective cover on the side whereas on the 5 you don't so you get a little bit sharper image there but here's the thing in terms of the actual the real sharpness it's picking up when we push in and you look at those signages which is always a great determinant of how sharp these cameras are, how crisp their photos are you notice that the edges around both of these are actually really sharp and really clear when you push in and you see all the dirt detail on the Pixel 5 you see the cutouts in the sign here on the OnePlus 9 on the protective cover so both cameras actually capture a pretty sharp image. Let's see, let's go down one level of zoom here so that we can see that there is a little more noise in the fencing around the sign on the 0nePlus 9, still a good photo but as again, we blow into that photo you definitely can see a little more noise there and then let's go to a closeup here of the rust on this fence they both capture solid detail and the rust solid detail on the rust, on the chain link fence and not just the pole. The colors are really nice and vibrant and the OnePlus 9 actually does a really solid job of giving you that nice background blur as does the Pixel 5 so here are two images from the front facing camera with the sound beating directly in my face as you can see they're both sharp images the Pixel 5 as it did with the rear camera has more color saturation the OnePlus 9 is more natural so it really is going to be a preferential thing on which you like, whether you like the more saturated imaging or whether you like the more natural imaging that is going to definitely be a preference let's see what it looks like when you're back lit so this is the sun behind me, kind of in a little bit different areas it's both coming off the left side of my face the image from the OnePlus 9 is definitely sharper in this case and it's a better image overall, and several factors, the contrast of my beard, the lack of lens flaring which kind of blurs out some of the portions of the image in the Pixel 5 the background is sharper with the Pixel 5 than it is with the OnePlus 9. (upbeat music) What did you think of the photos? Which camera did you like best? Which feature set is yours? Now, the interesting thing is they both have great operating systems obviously Google being the developers of Android but OnePlus has my favorite OS with oxygen 11 and it is really great. One of the things I really like over the Pixel 5 is of course I love the alert slider.

I'm always talking about that with the OnePlus series of phones love the alerts slider so there are just some things built into OnePlus is operating system that for me win over the stock Android but if you're about adaptability, if you're about accessibility, Google is gonna win in that regard because they have the live caption with phone calling and because they create the operating system nothing is broken, everything works, all the accessibility features work, whereas with OnePlus and pretty much every other manufacturer when they put their overlay on it, it does break some of the things don't work some of the features no longer work in terms of accessibility, specifically in this case the live captioning with phone calls so that is it Pixel 5 versus OnePlus 9. If there are any questions I didn't answer. If you have any questions based on this review please leave those in the comments below. I'll get to them. Love chatting with you guys on the comments.
