Hey friend Brandon here, I'm really worried about the Google pics of five and the future of the Google picks a line. You see, news recently came out saying that one of the most important and influential engineers for the Google Pixel line left as well as the pixel lead. This really isn't good news, but you know let's talk about it, because this is tech. Recently, an article came out from the information about some shake ups that occurred on the Google Pixel team earlier this year within the article, let's say that Rick Solo, the head of the made by Google Hardware division and All Hands meeting with the hardware team and acknowledged his misgivings, as he sure that he was a bit let down over the battery life of the sunny to be announced. Google picks a four line: I hadn't come out yet Australia. Disappointment would match that of reviewers who shared their own disappointments over battery life. This would be the most damning point of the reviews, along with the mixed reviews and concerns over the gesture based motion sentence and the security of Google's own version of face unlock. Along with that, the article pointed out that Mario Chiara is the general manager over the Google Pixel phone left at the beginning of 2020 to work at Pale, Alto Networks and Mark Lavoie, the one responsible for Google's, incredible camera left in March 2020 and continues to teach at Stanford University.
Their reasons for leaving are not clear, and we can only speculate, but the lackluster performance of the ghoul pixel for likely didn't help the reputation of bad battery life was hard to ignore, as was the consistent talking point for nearly every review that came out and logically had a negative impact on the Google picks of forced sales and in the value being offered from Apple with their iPhone 11. It's big battery and the price that was $100 less than the base model pixel for who had found itself in a much more competitive environment than before. This was proven to be true with the Google Pixel 4 line, as it only sold 2 million devices in the first two quarters it was made available, and this was according to IDC, a market intelligence firm known for providing sales data and market share for various mobile brands. Now this is in contrast to 3.5 million Google Pixel 3 devices sold as well as a 3 million Google Pixel 3 a devices sold over the same length of time since we're talking about it. I have to say that the sales figures for the Google Pixel for a will be fascinating to see you later on this year and a rumor has it at the time of filming at least the pixel for a will be $350 with 128 gigabytes of storage, that's $50 less than the base model, iPhone SE 2020, I have to, say.
Budget devices are fascinating right now. Let me know if you agree in the comments now information about Mario and Mark. Leaving is probably the most interesting part of this article if you watch this channel for a while. You know that the Google Pixel team is not a stranger, their personnel change back when I was investigating and linking information about the Google Pixel 3 and what would eventually become the pixel 3 a uncovered a gotta drama, I Google, the previous Google Pixel team, saw the writing on the wall, and they knew they're going to get fired or at least reassigned it, because the Google Pixel was underperforming, and they were only given one more shot with the pixel 3, and they really weren't set up to succeed. They were soon to be replaced by the HTC town acquired by Google for 1.1 billion dollars at the beginning of 2018. This proved to be true as a Taiwan team's work became public first with the Google Pixel three eight and then with the Google Pixel for news about Mario Karol.
Leaving may not be a terrible thing, depending on how much of an influence he had on the actual device. Maybe one of you can clarify what a general manager does at Google, but it sounds quite involved and a change of the guard might be what we need to improve the pixel line. Mario had overseen the Google pixels since it started in each year. There have been some glaring oversight or issues with the devices at launch. That would plague its reputation from the start.
This change doesn't really bother me. So much, however, mark Lavoie is living is a huge loss for Google mark. A Stanford professor for nearly 30 years has been responsible for many of the best features of the Google Pixel line, for instance, burst photography for high dynamic range and low light, imaging or more widely known, as HDR plus, and then there's synthetic depth of field with a single camera, mobile phone, also known as portrait mode, and then we have handheld mobile photography and very low light, which we know as nitrite and then finally, handheld multi frames super resolution which we have come to know as super resume. Not only were these developments significant for the Google Pixel and for its reputation is having one of the best, if not the best mobile phone cameras out there, but it was groundbreaking for the mobile industry as a whole. Without mark lowboys work, we would not have the wide development and implementation of night mode on other devices like the Samsung Galaxy and the iPhone I remember when you first saw nitrite displayed at the keynote for the Google Pixel 3.
Let's take a look. Reactions were a complete shock at first and then many people thought it was a sham where people just took a picture of people in the dark and simply turn off the brightness and posts. But when the Google Pixel 3 actually came out, people try it out and night really blew people's minds. That kind of feature could not go unanswered by other brands and that competition benefited all of us. So the question is: what does that mean for the feature of the Google Pixel? Well, let's watch this clip the dynamic range.
The difference in brightness between a full moon and a moonlit landscape is 19. X tops that's 19 doubling about half a million times brighter way beyond the range of any consumer camera, even an SLR. So is this scene forever impossible with a cell phone? Remember what I said at the beginning about software-defined camera pixel is committed to making its cameras better with software updates, so stay tuned on this one yeah I, don't think we're going to see that anymore, but surely it wasn't just mark that was responsible for the camera. Surely there are other great engineers in charge of the camera that listen to the people and come up with great ideas right. We talked about Instagram being at this like video platform, the pixel is very much an excellent, still camera.
Why can't it shoot 4k, 24 or 48 60, video, 4k, 24 or 4k 60 yeah? Why can't it do those things I think the answer is that nobody needs those things well, I shouldn't, say nobody Wow I, think I'm shallow. You ? yeah, so I'm worried about the Google Pixel 5, look I really like the Google Pixel line, I view it less of an Android phone like that of 1, plus and Samsung, which focuses on top-of-the-line specs, but more of it like an iPhone with Android. This has been Google's intent from the start, which is why I called the Google Pixel, the iPhone of androids and I like that, because I care about the practical experiences more than specs alone. Unfortunately, this is not an expectation or an overwhelmingly known goal and message from Google. Unfortunately, it causes diehard Android fans to ignore or trash on the Google Pixel series or hope for something like a pixel ultra, which I mean to be honest.
We have phones that are like a pixel ultra that don't sell well either so I, don't know why that would make a difference anyways all that it really doesn't help with the sales at all. On top of that, to lose an incredible engineer like Marco Lavoie makes me doubt that we'll have any breakthrough. Camera features with the upcoming Google Pixel devices, at least beyond anything that was already in development and far enough along before Marc left, while other companies focus on adding more megapixels, greater zooms and more lenses. Google has come up with groundbreakings software based camera features. Of course, this hasn't been perfect, as in the ultra-wide camera, surely would have been nice, but we cannot deny that the pixel camera is one of the best without having to rely on adding as much Hardware power in specs as possible.
As I have been saying, specs alone, don't make the phone I don't care about the specs I care about what it's like to actually use the phone to be fair, an ultra-wide camera probably would have brought a better experience, so can Google make a device that provides a great experience. Well, we do know that Google is rumored to have a three lens design for the upcoming Google Pixel 5 has leaked by John Prosper front-page tech. We also know that Google is working with Samsung to work on their own custom chips, project Whitechapel that may show up in the pixel 5 at the earliest. But beyond that, not much else is known about what does it come for the Google, pixel and I know? Many of you have asked about this shoal answer, I'm, confident that the Google Pixel is here to stay at least for a while. You don't spend 1 point 1 billion dollars to equip, hire HCC talent and start working on your custom trip with Samsung, if you're planning to end the Google Pixel any time soon long term well, we'll find out, and hopefully Rick Costello will make sure that future pixel phones are better by providing more oversight or at least making sure there's a big enough battery in the pixel 5, even if he may not be directly in charge of the Google Pixel device itself.
The hardware division is still under his leadership and leaders take responsibility for failures. Even if it's someone else's direct fault- and you know what I guess- he kind of recognized that in the hands-on meeting- so at least there's some hope. You know what else I have hope for that.
