ASUS Zenfone 8 Real World Camera Test

Uh just wanted to pop into this video I'm kind of having some fun with the edit on this one being kind of raw with it uh just having some fun with the ASUS before 8 uh, speaking of which you're looking at 4k video from its wide angle, camera right now, but I wanted to start things off with a little of a story and maybe a bit of a lesson for those of you creators out there who are trying to get into the YouTube game. Whatever the case may be tech or whatever I unearthed this shotgun mic. I haven't used it in such a long time, but since I'm doing some foggy type shots for a different video, I decided to leave it on the camera. While I recorded the talking head portions of this real world camera test, but listen to what happened with my actual audio rig as I was recording it, okay yeah, I was prepared to hate everything about this new phone right here. The ASUS before 8, I mean take a look at it, yeah that tends to happen sometimes uh, and I don't know why it happened. This time, but thank god, I had a redundancy.

I had this shotgun mic on the camera and that's the audio you're hearing. So if you hear it being a little different, there's a reason why I'm using backup audio for this one in any case, let's go ahead and get into this real world camera test on the ASUS before 8. Let's go also real quick check out this amazing flower that just started blooming here in the front yard. This is a wide angle camera, but it has autofocus, which means I can actually get pretty close to it, a little of macro capability here on the wide angle. So there you go before we even get started.

Just a quick look at the camera quality here, all right, so we're on the before 8 today, taking it out for a real world camera test. It's actually a beautiful day out here, some photos from the garden on this very sunny Sunday and today my friend is actually getting married. I'm attending her wedding later today. So this is an interesting time for me to take out an easy-to-use compact, but yet powerful, smartphone and now the cameras are going to be a bit interesting to use, because this is a before, but it's not going to have the flippy dippy, as I call it, which I've loved from the last couple generations. I don't have the before 8 flip on me and I don't think I will be getting it at least not from ASUS, because it's not being sold in the US.

That's the reason why I had to buy it myself. Last year I had to buy a global edition and that's the phone I use on the daily. I just love that flippy dippy by the way um. We say this about a lot of phones with multiple cameras on the back, but this one, I think, takes the cake. We have here two sensors and then the flash- and it literally looks like a face complete with one side.

Dimple, let's go through the unboxing for a moment, though, on this phone that is um a little less in cost than many of its flagship competitors uh. But still comes with some bits and pieces you wouldn't expect from said flagship competitors. One of the main additions in the unboxing experience is a specific case made for this phone, which may not seem like a big deal. But this is the same type of thing. They would do with these before 7 and the before 6.

They came with specific cases because of their unique designs. It's nice, I guess, to see that ASUS is continuing that tradition, even if their phone is a little more ho-hum this time around. But then you also get the 30 watt fast charger included in the box, which is something you don't usually get when it comes to other devices. That might be two three four hundred dollars more expensive, which brings us to the device itself, and before I get into the real world camera test. I do want to sort of explain my position as to why my prejudices were coming out before I even unboxed the phone.

You see, I already loved the ASUS before 6. , that's the phone I brought with me to Japan and to the Philippines. A couple of years ago I picked up the before 7 and that's actually been the phone I've been using as my daily ever since I got it for myself for Christmas in 2020. Clearly I love what I call the flippy dippy using the main cameras as your front-facing cameras, using a motor that literally flips it over its something. Quite literally no phone does these days, and it was a defining feature in the before line up until now.

So I have the before 7, and now I'm coming over to the before 8. So I'm kind of doing the expected upgrade from seven to eight between versions, but look at how different the before 8 is now so, yes, ASUS was making it very clear that the whole focus of their before 8 is to bring a lot of power in the smallest possible package, because that's something we don't see too often nowadays, but when it comes to the cameras the moment, you tell me that there's no flip camera on there anymore and that's been niched over to the ASUS before 8 flip. Well, of course, I'm going to flip out. I expected ASUS to just make a small phone put in all the current specifications, like the snapdragon 888, which this phone does have, but then pretty much write everything else off, but, as I was using this phone throughout the weekend for this wedding that my friend was having well, I started to see where ASUS was actually putting some extra thought into the phone and my opinions gradually started to change as long as it has been. This is still a pretty familiar feeling um.

This small suite it is a suite- has a kitchen like a straight-up kitchen, complete with an induction burner and a fridge, which probably means I'm going to go get some drinks and food uh, speaking of which I should do that before the wedding when you're going to a wedding- and you want to just be a little more minimal, given the way pockets are in suits and stuff, like that, my wallet's, not even that thick, but I'm actually going to change it up, get just a few of my most important cards in this. A new ridge wallet that I got ridge is not even sponsoring this video, but I wanted to just give them a shout-out uh. They will be on my Instagram for a little. I have actually rocked with ridge uh for quite some time. I remember when they were crowdfunded their first ever wallet and actually got that particular wallet, so very earthy green.

So it's a little darker uh, but yeah going to be using the ridge today, along with the more minimal before eight minimize, the pockets got a little of cold brew, got myself ready for the festivities tonight. Uh definitely got a little of food in me because there's probably going to be a lot of drinking, but I'll do my best to get as many photos using this before 8 as possible. Now. The first thing I will say, though, is I'm actually pretty impressed. Uh, I forget how fun a smaller phone can be, even if it's not the flashiest of devices, but anyway, speaking of getting flashy.

Consider this the before let's get right into the after there you go. It's been a long time since I've worn a suit much less this one that all right time to have some fun tonight see you in a bit, even though the design might be pretty boring. Let's just face it, it's a pretty boring design. I am reminded as to why I like smaller phones back when the pixel, 4 and 5 came out. I actually applauded those phones because they had better, as I called it quality of life, and that turned out to be a really useful thing during this wedding weekend, when I just wanted to minimize what would be in my pockets while tearing it up on the dance floor or just having fun with some friends, so I'll give us whose credit for prioritizing that, because you have a smaller phone that is easy to use, but you don't have to compromise on any of the power underneath the snapdragon 888 and, as it turns out a really long, lasting 4 000 William hour battery.

But anyway, I wanted to give my position as to why I felt the way I did with the before 8. In a lot of ways. I still feel that way, but let's get into the real world camera test. So you can see what these cameras are like we're, starting off with the main sensor, which is the 64 megapixel mix 686. This is a sensor that we've seen in multiple places before so we kind of know what to expect here.

As a matter of fact, it's the same sensor that we got on previous before models as well. Along with that main sensor is a 12 megapixel ultra-wide. But what's cool about this ultra white is that it actually comes with autofocus, so that autofocus allows it to get really close to subjects uh. You still have to be a little farther away from it uh compared to like a dedicated macro lens, but at least it can have some macro capabilities. Speaking of autofocus, you also get that on the front-facing camera.

This is actually an updated sensor up here and when you look at it through the punch hole on this display, you'll notice that it's a little bigger than most other punctual we've seen in recent phones. That's because this is an updated 12, megapixel Sony, imx663 complete with not just autofocus, but also 4k, video recording capability, and that's when I realized that ASUS was actually putting some extra thought into this phone. So, even though these cameras might not be the absolute best, you can get on a smartphone in 2021, they are still quite good and if ASUS is not going to be able to put them in a flippy dippy, at least they're, making sure that the actual sensors themselves have some extra capabilities and are pretty good for what they can put in the before 8. So because there's nothing truly revolutionary or even groundbreaking. In these cameras, aside from an updated front-facing shooter, I'm just going to go ahead and let a lot of the photos and videos play for the rest of this railroad camera test.

You can, let me know what you think of all the shots you're looking at right now in the comments down below and remember, to subscribe to my channel for more real world camera tests like this I'll, come back near the end of the video just to give a few final thoughts. Well, I don't really have a lot else to say about these cameras other than it's a good package. It's not a revolutionary package like I said before, but again I am one of those people that gets to try out all the cameras in smartphone tech, and I actually wanted to make this next part a bit of a segment that I might do from time to time when it feels very relevant. It's the uh, spoiled tech reviewer check good morning, I'm not gonna, say last night was a blur, but I definitely need water and coffee. This morning, you see being a content creator in the world of tech.

I get to try out all the latest and greatest and when it comes to greatest, I obviously have my own opinions as to what I would reach for immediately when I want to take good photos and videos as far as smartphone cameras are concerned, and it might make me a little biased when I hear that the main sensors on the before 8 not only don't flip, there's no flippy dippy, but they're also not particularly updated compared to sensors like found on the mi 11 ultra. It's the whole curse of comparison, and I know we all do this, even as consumers, but as a tech content creator, I'm immediately thinking of my favorite cameras when comparing them to the latest, one that I'm using for the next piece of content. So it was probably a perfect idea for me to take this for a weekend out at this Temecula valley wedding. That way, I'd be able to take a look at it in a vacuum, and it was there that I realized. I actually have to give ASUS more credit for putting some thought into this phone.

Even if the design doesn't really seem like they were it's a very unassuming device, and then you realize there's a lot of power underneath and the cameras, while not the absolute best um, don't have to be they're still quite good and of course, those other cameras on those. Other phones are going to mean that such smartphones are going to be hundreds and hundreds of dollars more expensive anyway. So, of course, I'm going to give my final thoughts on this phone in a what worked and what didn't piece here on my channel, but I will tell you this here on the real world camera test. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that I actually enjoyed my time with the before 8. Despite all the prejudices I was bringing into it.

As I was unboxing the phone I'm actually impressed with what ASUS has been able to do in such a small package, and I'm glad that they did not just write off all the specifications, especially in the camera. They actually tried to make sure that there were a couple of enhancements, a couple of key and significant enhancements in the right places on this camera phone. So I hope you at least enjoyed this vlog shot through the lenses of the ASUS before 8. Let me know what you thought of everything you saw in the comment: sections down below and drop some likes on this video for more on the before 8 and, of course, plenty more across the world of tech. Make sure you subscribe to my channel and with all of that said, I'm going to go ahead and call it on this one.

Thank you so much for watching. Please take care of yourselves and each other and enjoy your tea. Everybody happy wedding, BPA.
