Apple Watch Spotify Streaming // How it Works + What You Can and Can't Do (Jan 2021)

How's it going folks, I'm Del with does fit. This is just going to be a quick little video about how the Spotify app works on an Apple Watch on both the GPS, and GPS, plus cellular models, and whether you have a paid or free Spotify account. It made some pretty big news recently that you could now stream Spotify to an Apple Watch, but I did notice one little catch and this information does come into play for a rather interesting comparison. Video that I have in the works so stay tuned for that one. But what I thought I'd do for the moment is just go and share this information really quick. First off, you need to have Spotify installed on your phone, and then you can install the Spotify app for your Apple Watch, whether you're a free or paid subscriber to check if it's installed on your watch just go into the watch app on your phone and just make sure that it's installed for the list of available apps.

Next on the watch itself, navigate to the Spotify app and here's where you'll be able to access your Spotify library as well as a list of previously played playlists in your library. You can view all your like songs, along with your playlists podcasts artists, as well as albums on the now playing display. I'm going to come back to this button in the lower right-hand portion of the screen in a second- and this is where I noticed the difference between the paid and free Spotify memberships. But on this screen you can do the normal stuff like play and pause, go forward and backwards. You can like the song to add it to your library, and then you can also adjust the volume using the digital crown and then swipe one more time.

And then you can access the playlist that's currently playing, and then you can also choose a specific song to play, and then you can toggle, shuffle and repeat options, but now, let's get into a rather big difference that I noticed between a free and a premium Spotify account. So if you have a premium, Spotify account with a GPS Apple Watch you'll be able to stream music over Wi-Fi if your phone isn't in range and the same thing goes for a GPS plus seller Apple Watch again, if you have a premium, Spotify account where you'll be able to stream music over Wi-Fi or over cellular, but this capability does not seem to appear if you have just a basic free, Spotify account. So this is my Apple Watch. Sc, that's using a free Spotify account. I have it paired to a pair of Bluetooth headphones, but I have the phone turned off, so it's just using Wi-Fi.

If I click on this button, I refer to earlier on the now playing screen. It only has one option and that's playing on my phone. Since my phone isn't connected. It doesn't do anything. Additionally, you won't be able to browse playlists through your library and here's my series 6 that's using a premium Spotify account again.

I have it paired to a pair of Bluetooth headphones, but I have an extra option now here to listen on my watch. This watch option right here doesn't seem to appear if you have a free Spotify account- and this has nothing to do with the SE versus series 6 by the way, because here's where I switch my SC to the premium account and the watch option is now there and then here's my series, six, where I switched it to a free, Spotify account and now the streaming capability doesn't work, whether I'm on Wi-Fi or cellular. So the streaming capability of Spotify on an Apple Watch is great news. If you have a premium, Spotify membership and don't get me wrong, I think a premium Spotify membership is plenty worth it, especially for somebody like me who listens to music all day. Long and artists need to get paid, but I just wanted to go and point out that difference, but the big missing feature from the Spotify app right now is that you can't download Spotify tracks or playlists to the watch itself for offline listening, like you, can do on a Garmin device anyhow.

This was just a quick little video about how Spotify works on an Apple Watch as of January 2021, and it does play a little of a role in my next video that I have coming up so make sure to subscribe, to get a notification when that video comes out, and if this video did help you out at all. If you liked the video don't be shy about hitting that like button down below in the meantime, have fun out there happy listening, and we will see you in the next video.
