Apple Watch Series 6 vs Series 4: Is it really worth the upgrade?

Apple's September hardware event has come and gone with the two biggest hardware announcements being the new iPad Air and the new Apple Watch Series 6. , the Apple Watch Series 6 improves on what many consider to be already the best smartwatch out there. However, generally speaking, the updates are minor compared to the Apple Watch Series 5. But what about, if you have an Apple Watch Series 4. Compared to the series 4 you'll, get features like the always-on display, the added fitness tracking features and more. Is it worth the upgrade, or should you wait until next year I put the Apple Watch Series 4 and series 6 head to find out.

It really helps support my work and I would appreciate that support apple, completely refreshed the design of the Apple Watch with the series 4, and it hasn't launched a major refresh since it has added minor updates to the design, though, like with the addition of the blue aluminum model, new straps, like the solo loop and so on. That said, the Apple Watch itself still offers the same: beautiful edge-to-edge display curved corners and so on. It's a good look on the back you'll notice, a few differences related to the new sensors that you'll get under the hood we'll get into that a little later, but the gist of things is that the series 6 offers a blood oxygen sensor on top of the other sensors, like the heart rate, monitor and EKG sensor on offer by the series 4. When it comes to performance.

The differences are much more important. The Apple Watch Series 6 offers apple's s6 chipset up from the s4 and the series 4 and the s5 in the series 5. Basically, it's a slightly more powerful chip that should ensure that the device lasts longer and gets more updates, but more important than that is the fact that it enables a number of extra features. Chief among those features, is the always-on display on the series 6. And that always on display is 2.5 times brighter than that on the series 5. , it's really a useful feature and means that even outside you can glance at your wrist for information without having to move your whole arm.

Then there are the fitness tracking features. The big addition to the Apple Watch Series 6 is the new blood oxygen sensor, which can be triggered manually with a built-in app or simply let to run automatically sometimes, through the day. Apple is quick to note that this is not a medical device, but, as was the case with the EKG monitor in the upper watch series 4, the blood oxygen sensor could eventually be used to help people find out that they have illnesses like sleep, apnea, lung diseases and so on. Again we're not there yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see apple partner on studies using the blood oxygen sensor. Last but not least, is the always-on altimeter.

The Apple Watch already had an altimeter, but the always-on altimeter means that you can get real-time elevation readings, and you can see your elevation throughout the day in the Apple Health app generally. Of course, both of these devices offer excellent fitness tracking starting workouts on the Apple Watch is very easy to do, and no matter which device you go for. You'll still get basic fitness tracking, like step, counting distance and so on. There are other smaller tweaks too. The Apple Watch Series 6 has apple's new u1 chip, though we're not exactly sure what that enables just yet, of course, with all these changes, you might assume that the battery life takes a hit, but I found that I still generally entered the day with over 50 that included using the device for fitness, tracking and keeping the always-on display active.

You will still need to charge the device every day or so, but you'll get used to it. So, to sum up, the main differences between these two devices are the always-on display the blood oxygen sensor and the always-on altimeter. So is it worth the upgrade? Well, if you're a fitness junkie that loves to keep track of fitness related data or someone who could seriously benefit from the always on display, it may be worth upgrading. That said, considering the fact that the current design of the Apple Watch has been in play for three generations now we're somewhat expecting apple to revise the overall design for the device next year with the Apple Watch Series 7. If you're generally happy with the series 4, it may be worth waiting one more year, while I can't guarantee that there will be a major refresh next year, there at least should be a few extra features that make the upgrade even more worth it.

If this is your first time buying an Apple Watch, it's definitely worth getting the series 6 if you can afford it. Alternatively, it's worth considering the also new Apple Watch. Se, though, you'll miss out on a number of features, if you do so or if you really want to save cash, you can consider the Apple Watch Series 3. You can get the Apple Watch for yourself using the links in the description thanks so much for watching this. Video and again, please hit the like button and subscribe if it was helpful to you.
